It was probably the hardest start of winter they’d had in a long while. A winter with snow so beautiful it brought a tear to your eye, dead loved ones, and air so cold it bit through your lungs with every breath you took. Breath Kaya and Enji could hardly seem to catch, not when holes had been blasted into their lungs. Not when every liquidy breath brought on another wave of pain that had them thinking “Maybe this will be my last”.
Though saved by Kaneki, who had long since rushed off to fight the Doves wreaking havoc on their home, the two couldn’t seem to get their feet under them. Couldn’t find the energy within themselves to pull themselves up and get out there so that Kaneki’s efforts wouldn’t be in vain. But their bodies were as frozen as the ground they sat on--bodies so beaten and torn into they hardly thought they could feel them.
Above their heads stood the bridge they had both walked many times over. A bridge they had never once thought would shield them from the falling snow, keeping it from collecting over those hardly felt bodies.
They never thought it might be their final resting place.
Never once stopped to imagine that its white-gray concert was the last thing they’d see before Death herself came to drag their souls to hell. Never once thought of it as something other than a tool used to get from place A to B.
And maybe it was still being used in such a way…would be their guide to get from this world to the next.
“Hey…Yaya?” Enji managed to speak past the growing heaviness of his tongue.
The frigid air was quiet for a long moment. A moment Enji felt his heart twist at.
They had sat there for so long--blood slowly pouring from their bodies for so long that he thought maybe it’d gotten her. That sitting behind him, just a few inches of icy concrete between them, was a corpse he’d once known.
“Yaya?” He tried once more.
“Geez,” Kaya gruffed, blinking slowly against the cold that was seeping into her vision. “What kind of nickname is that?” Enji’s laugh was gravelly, but still held that familiar brightness that was quick to ease Kaya’s heart.
Enji fought past the heaviness that had moved from his tongue to his muscles, forcing his head to lull to the side and bringing the edge of the concrete railing into his line of sight.
So close. Only inches and yet his body wouldn’t allow him to move any further then he had already.
“A damn good one.” He chuckled. Kaya smirked as best she could at the falseness of the statement. It was a god awful nickname.
Distant gunfire that didn't sound all so distant echoed through the again stilled air between the pair. Air so still Kaya felt her heart still with it.
No way. No way had that idiot called her something so--so stupid just to die before she could even know what he had wanted.
Just so he could die before her. Without her.
“Enji.” She called on as much of a snap as she could muster past the numbness seeping through her body.
“Why’d we become rivals anyhow?” Enji questioned, blinking back the swirling fog that had moved from his brain into his eyes.
“That’s what you’re thinking about right now? Why we hated each other?” Kaya sighed.
“I’m thinkin’ ‘bout a lotta things.” Enji dully said. A dullness he hadn’t wished to fill his voice but one he had no control over.
Kaya hadn’t missed it. Could almost feel that dullness shoot right through her like a bullet.
“Food. Territory. Power.” Kaya answered, fingers twitching against their frozen state. Twitched and powered through to move by an inch. “Pick any one and I’m sure we fought over it.”
“Yeah.” Kaya heard the desired humor in his voice. Humor that was suppressed under the weight of the looming shadow hanging over both their heads.
Enji clawed his fingers along where the railing met the ground. Clawed them to follow its nook.
He blinked. He blinked for a long moment--a moment where he could hardly tell the difference between the cold in the air and in his body.
“T--tell something else you're thinking about.” Kaya's voice sounded so--desperate. A desperation he had never heard in it before. It tore deeper through Enji’s heart then the hole through his abdomen.
“I’m thinkin’...’bout how beautiful I thought you were--when I first saw you without the mask.”
Inch by inch fingers moved along.
“I’m thinkin’ ‘about when ya first let me walk you home…begrudgingly.” Kaya gave a soft chuckle that sparked warmth through Enji’s heart.
“I was a big girl…didn't need some idiot trying to be my knight in shining armor.”
Inch by struggling inch.
“I know…just wanted to talk to ya a bit longer.” Enji smiled weakly at the memory. A memory that tugged at Kaya’s own lips.
“I know…I wanted to too.”
Another inch gained.
“I remember…when you slapped me for tryin’ to kiss you.” Enji found himself saying as gunfire sounded even closer than before. Neither ghoul flinched. Neither stop their fingers from inching along like blood covered caterpillars.
“I remember…” Kaya started, fingertips feeling over the edge of the railing. “Being nervous when you did. I couldn’t help myself…you know how my last relationship ended.”
“I do.” Enji’s fingertips felt over the rough edge of the railing. “Surprised you even gave me the time of day.”
“You made me laugh.” Kaya said with no hesitation. “You make me feel--appreciated. Cared for. Loved. I should have given you more time.” Kaya felt her first bit of regret then. The first bit of regret for the poor excuse of a life she had led. Regret for not--not living. For letting her past mistakes overtake her soul--haunt her.
“Nah…nah I got enough. Any time with you was a gift.” Enji’s blurred eyes stung and his throat felt even more clogged than it had been before. He felt regret for a lot of things, but this, being around her, bugging her and making her laugh that small yet so sunny sound--he would never regret that. No matter if it had only been for such a short while.
Kaya’s throat tightened at his words. Words that completely shattered the heart she’d been trying to keep out of this. Trying to keep locked away against him.
Fingers reached one last shaky time. Fingers that found one another and held on as tight as they possibly could.
“Damn you.” Kaya breathed past the burning in her eyes. “I was ready to go. So ready. But now--Enji, I just want to talk with you a bit longer.”
Tears rushed down Enji’s rounded, blood splattered cheeks he hardly could feel.
Heavy fingers held tighter just as numb ones did.
“I want to too.” Enji weavered. “God--I was ready too. Real ready. But how can I go when I haven’t annoyed you with more nicknames?”
Gunfire shook through their bones.
The roar of some creature more monstrous than either of them rattled frozen pebbles out of their frosty confines.
And still they held on. Didn’t move. Didn’t run away.
“Maybe--maybe there is comfort in goin’ together.” Enji continued, eyes going so foggy he could hardly see the pale fingers holding his anymore.
“Maybe.” Kaya’s voice wavered then. “Enji?” Enji blinked hard, trying to keep that fog at bay.
“Yeah?” His voice was weak. So weak he didn’t even think he had spoken. Kaya’s bottom lip trembled viciously at such a sound.
No--no, not yet. Please.
“I--Enji, I lo--”
“Boss!” A man’s voice called, cutting Kaya off from saying something they both had longed to say. To hear.
Blurs of black and white and red cut across their visions as their gangs rushed around them.
Heavy and numb fingers held tighter against the swarm. Held tight until they were being pulled apart.
Flesh was shoved into their mouths. Flesh that kept that looming shadow they had been so ready to greet at bay, yet found themselves thankful for its disappearance.
Hushed explanations of a getaway sounded through their ears that didn’t seem to stick. Not as coffee and hazel brown eyes found each other.
The flesh they had been fed worked it magic and rapidly began to repair their broken bodies. Bodies that gravitated towards the other like a pair of magnets.
“Can I walk ya home?” Enji spoke, sounding so far from that haunting voidness his voice had been invaded with just seconds ago.
“Homes a bit destroyed now,” Kaya started, blood stained fingers reaching for his just as he reached for hers. Fingers that wove between each other, stronger now that death wasn’t knocking at their door steps. “But I think you can walk me out of here.” Enji shared that cocky yet brilliant smile just for her. A smile she gave back, though in her own, personal way.
“Gladly….Yaya.” Kaya sighed deeply as he laughed like he’d said the funniest joke in the world.
“It’s still awful.” Their gangs stressed the importance of escaping again, hands greatly trying to corral the pair away.
“I think you mean it’s the most creative and fitting nickname out there.” Eyes never once kept the other out of their strengthening sights. Fingers never once let go of the other as they allowed through followers to guide them away.
“...fine. I’ll allow it. For now.”
“Oh, you shouldn’t have done that.” Kaya knew she shouldn’t have and Enji knew he was pressing his luck, but at least they had that. At least they had each other.

Love Me... Until the End
Chapter 9
This is a Yandere Tokyo Ghoul x Female Reader Fic!
MDNI!!
The early morning streets were quiet as (Y/N) walked toward Anteiku, her bag slung casually over her shoulder. The faint scent of fresh bread and coffee drifted through the air, a promise of warmth and calm ahead.
She adjusted her scarf against the cool breeze and kept her eyes ahead, her thoughts wandering aimlessly—until her phone buzzed in her pocket.
Pausing on the sidewalk, she pulled it out and glanced at the caller ID. Her brows furrowed slightly when she saw the name: Amon Koutarou.
After a brief hesitation, she pressed the answer button and brought the phone to her ear.
“Hello?”
“L/N,” Amon’s voice came through, calm but professional as always. “Good morning.”
(Y/N) shifted her weight from one foot to the other, her grip tightening slightly on the phone. “Good morning, Investigator. Is something wrong?”
“No, nothing urgent,” he replied. “I’m calling to follow up on the incident from last week. I wanted to check in and see how you’re doing.”
(Y/N) sighed softly, her free hand brushing a strand of hair out of her face. “I’m fine. Thanks for asking.”
Amon’s voice softened, losing some of its formal edge. “That’s good to hear. I know situations like that can be… difficult. I wanted to make sure you weren’t feeling overwhelmed.”
She looked down at the pavement, a flicker of unease crossing her face. “I’m managing. Thank you for your concern.”
There was a brief pause on the other end before Amon spoke again. “I was also hoping we could meet in person to go over a few things. It won’t take long, and I think it might help to discuss everything face-to-face.”
(Y/N)’s steps faltered slightly as she glanced toward the direction of Anteiku. The thought of revisiting the incident wasn’t particularly appealing, but she also knew Amon well enough to recognize his intentions.
“When were you thinking?” she asked, her tone neutral.
“Whenever you’re available,” Amon said. “I can work around your schedule.”
(Y/N) exhaled, considering. “I’m on my way somewhere right now, but I’ll be free this evening. Does that work for you?”
“It does,” he confirmed. “I’ll send you the details of a place where we can meet. Thank you for taking the time.”
“Of course,” she replied. “I’ll see you then.”
“Take care,” Amon said before the call ended.
Lowering the phone, (Y/N) stared at the screen for a moment, her expression unreadable. She slipped it back into her pocket and resumed walking, her pace a bit slower than before.
Her mind wandered back to the incident, the memory tugging at the edges of her thoughts. She shook it off with a quiet sigh, focusing instead on the café’s warm lights now visible in the distance.
For now, she’d let the comfort of Anteiku distract her until the meeting later. ・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・・。・。・
(Y/N) drained the last bit of coffee from her cup, her eyes fixed idly on the swirling patterns at the bottom. Without a word, she stood, slinging her bag over her shoulder as she made her way toward the bathroom.
She pushed open the door without hesitation and stopped short.
Hinami was sitting inside, frozen mid-bite, her wide eyes locking onto (Y/N). A bloody plate sat in front of her.
(Y/N) blinked. “Oops.”
That was all she said before stepping back and shutting the door behind her, her expression unreadable. She turned and walked back into the café, bumping into Koma Enji, who raised an eyebrow at her.
“Something wrong, shorty?” he teased, grinning as he leaned against the counter.
(Y/N) glanced up at him briefly, her face neutral. “Saw Hinami eating.”
Koma chuckled, shaking his head. “Oh, that’s bad. Ghouls don’t like being caught mid-meal. Especially girls—they’re weird about that.”
(Y/N) shrugged. “Noted.”
“Here.” Koma poured a fresh cup of coffee and thrust it into her hands. “Take this to her. Say you’re sorry. Fix the awkwardness.”
(Y/N) took the cup without protest, her expression as steady as ever. Without a word, she walked back to the room.
Outside the door, she paused, her eyes flicking down to the bloody plate still on the floor. With a light knock, she said, “Hinami, can I come in?”
“Yes,” came the small voice from inside.
(Y/N opened the door and stepped in, setting the coffee cup down on the table with a quiet clink. “For earlier.”
Hinami stared at the cup, her hands fidgeting nervously. “Thank you. And… I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable.”
“You didn’t,” (Y/N) replied simply, leaning against the wall with her arms crossed. Her gaze fell lazily on Hinami’s face.
The young ghoul hesitated before speaking again. “Miss… can I ask? What are you?”
(Y/N) raised an eyebrow at the question, her tone staying calm and even. “Half-human.”
Hinami’s eyes widened. “Half-human? I didn’t even know that was possible. You’re… different from other humans. If you were like us, I’d have been able to tell from far away.”
“Guess I’m tricky like that,” (Y/N) said, brushing a stray thread from her sleeve.
Hinami flushed, looking down. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to pry.”
(Y/N gave the faintest shrug. “Doesn’t bother me.”
Her gaze shifted to the sketch Hinami had been working on. She pointed to it, her tone as neutral as ever. “You draw that?”
Hinami nodded, holding the paper up shyly. “It’s my daddy.”
(Y/N studied the drawing, her expression unreadable. “Looks like a good man. Hope you see him again soon.”
“Me too.”
(Y/N’s eyes flicked to the open book on the table. “Monochrome of Rainbows?”
Hinami tilted her head. “You know it?”
(Y/N picked up the book and flipped through it carelessly. “Takatsuki’s a favorite.”
“You like her?”
“Yeah,” (Y/N) said, setting the book back down with a thud. “What story’s your favorite?”
Hinami hesitated. “The one about… a little night in the rain time?”
“Flowers at Sunset,” (Y/N) corrected, her tone as flat as ever. “It inspired Egg of the Black Sheep.”
Hinami’s eyes widened. “You know so much! You must be really smart.”
(Y/N didn’t respond, instead bending slightly to glance at the page Hinami was pointing to. “What’s this word?” Hinami asked.
“Hydrangea.”
“Like the flower?”
“Yeah.”
Hinami flipped a few pages. “And this one?”
“Verglas. Thin ice.”
“That’s pretty.”
(Y/N tilted her head. “Glazing’s prettier. Same thing, just sounds better.”
Hinami smiled at that, her earlier nervousness fading. “I like that.”
Neither of them noticed Touka standing quietly at the door, watching the interaction with a calculating gaze.
(Y/N)… she’d fit in with our family. She doesn’t even realize it yet.
Inside, Hinami was jotting down notes in a small notebook, her pencil moving quickly across the page.
“Always write things down?” (Y/N) asked casually.
Hinami nodded. “Since I can’t go to school, I write everything I learn here.”
“Smart.” (Y/N pushed off the wall, her expression still unreadable. “I could teach you more words. If you want.”
“Really?” Hinami’s face lit up.
“Sure.”
For the rest of the afternoon, (Y/N) sat with Hinami, teaching her words and offering explanations with a calm detachment that never faltered. Touka lingered nearby, listening silently, her thoughts racing. ・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・・。・。・
Tsukiyama Shuu strolled leisurely toward Anteiku, his crimson suit standing out like a streak of blood against the warm hues of the setting sun. He hummed a lilting tune, the corners of his lips tugged into a smirk as he anticipated the evening ahead.
Inside, (Y/N) moved with quiet efficiency, setting out coffee trays for the ghouls who gathered around the café’s tables. Though she appeared focused on her task, her mind was elsewhere, spinning with thoughts of her impending meeting with Amon.
“What’s this, shorty?” Koma asked, raising an eyebrow as he picked up one of the trays.
“Coffee and Yoshimura’s sugar cubes,” (Y/N) replied absently, her gaze flickering to the clock on the wall. “Yoshimura packed your actual food. I thought it would be nice to do this since everyone’s been so kind, explaining things I don’t understand.”
Koma chuckled and shook his head. “You’ve got a strange way of showing gratitude, kid.”
(Y/N) smiled faintly but didn’t reply. Her fingers brushed the edge of the counter as her thoughts wandered back to Amon. How would he react when he saw her? Would he be guarded, or would he let his walls down, even slightly?
“Good afternoon, (Y/N)!” Hinami’s cheerful voice broke through her musings.
(Y/N) blinked, looking down at the young girl who had bounded up to her side. “Afternoon,” she said with a small smile, kneeling slightly as Hinami wrapped her arms around her waist.
Ryouka’s soft voice called from the doorway. “Come along, Hinami.”
Hinami pulled back, waving. “Bye, (Y/N)!”
“See you later,” (Y/N) replied, straightening up. Her hands smoothed the front of her apron as the bell above the café door jingled.
“Hello. Welcome,” Kaneki greeted, his tone polite but wary.
Tsukiyama stepped inside, his eyes scanning the room before landing on (Y/N). He smiled, sharp and predatory, as he approached.
“What an enticing aroma,” he purred, his voice a velvet caress. “The café is truly brimming with… charm this afternoon.”
(Y/N) barely glanced at him, her thoughts still preoccupied with her meeting. The corners of her mouth curved in a polite but distant smile as she resumed stacking trays.
Kaneki and Touka immediately stepped forward, placing themselves between Tsukiyama and (Y/N).
“Tsukiyama,” Touka spat, her eyes narrowing.
“Ah, mon cherie,” Tsukiyama greeted, spreading his arms theatrically. “It’s been far too long. I trust you’re well?”
“What do you want?” Touka snapped, her tone sharp enough to cut through the tension.
Tsukiyama chuckled, his gaze shifting to (Y/N). “Oh, I’m merely a humble customer, here to enjoy a cup of coffee. But it seems there’s someone here I’ve yet to be introduced to.”
“She wants nothing to do with you,” Touka said coldly, her fists clenching.
“It’s alright,” (Y/N) said softly, stepping out from behind Kaneki and Touka.
Touka turned to her, alarmed. “(Y/N)—”
(Y/N) shook her head, offering a calm smile. “It’s fine. He’s just a customer, right?”
She turned to Tsukiyama and inclined her head. “I’m (Y/N).”
“Tsukiyama Shuu,” he said, bowing deeply. “At your service, princess.”
Touka bristled, stepping closer to (Y/N). “You’re lucky I’m working right now.” Her hands hovered protectively near (Y/N)’s shoulders.
Tsukiyama’s gaze shifted to Kaneki, his nose twitching slightly. He smiled, though the expression didn’t reach his eyes. “And who is this… interesting young man?”
“Kaneki,” Kaneki said flatly, his arm moving protectively around (Y/N)’s waist.
Tsukiyama’s smile widened as he leaned in closer, sniffing delicately. “C’est magnifique,” he murmured, his eyes gleaming with unspoken intent.
Kaneki stiffened under his scrutiny, but before he could speak, (Y/N) interjected.
“Excuse me,” she said, her voice even, “but could you not make him uncomfortable?”
Tsukiyama’s attention snapped back to her, his smile softening into something almost genuine. “For you, princess? Anything.”
“Stop being creepy and leave already,” Touka snapped, her patience worn thin.
Tsukiyama straightened, adjusting the cuffs of his suit. “My, my. Such hostility. It seems the ambiance here could use some refinement.”
He stepped closer to (Y/N), his hand brushing her shoulder as he leaned in. “I’ll look forward to trying your coffee, princess. Give my regards to Yoshimura.”
Before anyone could stop him, his hand dipped dangerously close to her chest, the motion casual but deliberate.
Touka’s fists clenched, her entire body coiled like a spring. “Get out.”
Tsukiyama chuckled, retreating toward the door. Ciao, then. Until we meet again… princess.”
The bell jingled as he exited, leaving a thick tension in the air.
(Y/N) exhaled quietly, her hands brushing her apron as she turned to Touka. “Who was that?”
Touka scowled. “Keep your guard up. He’s one of the parasites of the 20th Ward.”
(Y/N) nodded, filing the information away. Her thoughts, however, quickly returned to Amon. Whatever this Tsukiyama was, he was just another distraction. The real challenge awaited her outside Anteiku.
“Okay,” she murmured, turning back to the counter.
・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・。・・。・。・
The late afternoon sun cast a warm glow over the bustling streets of Tokyo, the city alive with people going about their day. Among them, (Y/N) moved purposefully, though she felt a flutter of apprehension in her chest. She had received a message from Amon Koutarou, asking her to meet at a local udon shop. Though she found his invitation polite, there was an undercurrent of formality to it that made her suspect this wasn’t just a casual meal.
As she approached the small, unassuming shop nestled between larger buildings, the rich aroma of broth and freshly cooked noodles greeted her. The familiar scent eased her nerves a little, and she stepped inside, scanning the room. Her eyes quickly landed on Amon, sitting in a corner booth, his posture rigid but not unwelcoming. He noticed her immediately and stood to greet her, bowing slightly.
“Thank you for coming,” he said, his deep voice calm and steady.
(Y/N) returned the bow with a small smile. “Thank you for inviting me. I hope I’m not too late—I had a little trouble finding the place.”
“Not at all,” he replied, gesturing for her to take a seat across from him. “I appreciate you taking the time.”
She slid into the seat, placing her bag beside her as she took a moment to glance around. The shop was cozy and quiet, filled with the soft hum of conversation and the occasional clatter of dishes. It was the kind of place that encouraged relaxation, though the weight of Amon’s serious demeanor kept her on edge.
A server approached, and Amon nodded toward her. “Order whatever you like,” he said.
(Y/N) glanced at the menu, her eyes lighting up as she spotted her favorite dish. “I’ll have the house special udon, please,” she said with a hint of excitement. After the server left, she turned her attention back to Amon. “This place smells amazing. Have you been here before?”
“A few times,” he admitted, his tone softening slightly. “It’s a good spot.”
The conversation lulled as they waited for her food to arrive. Amon’s gaze lingered on her, not in an intimidating way, but as though he were studying her. (Y/N) met his eyes briefly, her fingers fidgeting with the edge of her sleeve. There was something about the way he observed her that made her feel both seen and slightly vulnerable.
When her bowl of udon arrived, she lit up, her hands moving quickly to unwrap her chopsticks. She muttered a quick “Itadakimasu” before diving in, slurping the thick noodles with unabashed enthusiasm. Amon watched her closely, his shoulders visibly relaxing. The sight of her eating so freely seemed to confirm something for him, though he said nothing at first.
After a few moments, (Y/N) glanced up, noticing his silence. She wiped her mouth with a napkin and tilted her head slightly. “You seem… thoughtful. Is everything alright?”
Amon folded his hands on the table, leaning forward slightly. “I wanted to talk to you about the incident,” he said, his tone measured but firm.
(Y/N)’s chopsticks paused midair. She set them down carefully, her appetite waning slightly as the mood shifted. “I already told the CCG everything I know,” she said, her voice steady but cautious.
“I know,” Amon replied. “But sometimes, with time, people remember new details—or find clarity in what they experienced. I’d like to hear it again, directly from you.”
(Y/N) hesitated, her fingers tracing the edge of the bowl as she gathered her thoughts. She had gone over that night countless times in her mind, and though the memory was still sharp, it brought with it a wave of unease.
“Alright,” she said finally, her voice quieter now. “I’ll tell you what I remember.”
Amon nodded, his expression encouraging but serious.
“I was walking home late that night—probably too late,” she began, her gaze dropping to the table as she spoke. “The streets were quieter than usual, and I wasn’t really paying attention to my surroundings. That’s when it happened. A ghoul attacked me.” She paused, her hands curling into loose fists in her lap. “It came out of nowhere. One second, I was walking, and the next, it had grabbed me. I couldn’t fight back. It was too strong.”
Amon’s jaw tightened, though his expression remained neutral. He didn’t interrupt, allowing her to continue at her own pace.
“Before it could…” She hesitated, the words catching in her throat. “Before it could do anything worse, another ghoul appeared. They started arguing—yelling at each other about territories or something. It got heated fast, and then they started fighting.”
“And what did you do?” Amon asked, his tone even but probing.
(Y/N) met his gaze, her eyes steady despite the tension in her shoulders. “I ran. As soon as they were distracted, I ran as fast as I could. I didn’t look back. I didn’t stop until I was far away and couldn’t hear them anymore.”
Her voice wavered slightly at the end, but she took a deep breath, grounding herself. She picked up her chopsticks again, stirring her udon though she didn’t take another bite. “That’s all I know. That’s all that happened.”
Amon studied her closely, his sharp eyes searching for any signs of deception. There was none. Her account was consistent with what she had told the CCG previously, and her demeanor didn’t suggest she was hiding anything. If anything, she seemed tired of recounting the same traumatic story.
“I see,” he said after a moment, leaning back in his seat. “And you haven’t seen either of the ghouls since that night?”
“No,” she said firmly, shaking her head. “Honestly, I’m not sure I’d recognize them even if I did. It all happened so fast.”
Amon nodded, his gaze softening slightly. He believed her—or at least, he believed she wasn’t lying. Still, something about the incident didn’t sit right with him. Two ghouls fighting over territory was common enough, but the timing of it, coinciding with (Y/N)’s escape, was almost too convenient. He pushed the thought aside for now, focusing on the person in front of him.
“I’m glad you’re safe,” he said sincerely. “Not everyone is that fortunate when it comes to encounters with ghouls.”
(Y/N) smiled faintly, though there was a trace of sadness in her expression. “Thank you. And… thank you for looking into this. I don’t know what I would’ve done if those ghouls had caught up to me.”
Amon felt a pang of guilt. He had approached this meeting with suspicion, determined to uncover any inconsistencies in her story. But sitting across from her now, watching her resume eating her udon with a small, contented smile, he saw nothing more than a survivor—someone who had narrowly escaped a terrible fate.
For a while, they sat in comfortable silence, the hum of the udon shop filling the space between them. Amon allowed himself to relax slightly, his earlier doubts easing. Whatever had happened that night, it was clear (Y/N) was just as much a victim as anyone else caught in the chaos of a ghoul-infested city.
As she finished the last of her noodles, (Y/N) looked up at him with a more genuine smile. “Thank you for the meal. It was nice to talk to someone who actually listens.”
Amon nodded, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “It was my pleasure. If you remember anything else, no matter how small, don’t hesitate to reach out.”
“I will,” she promised, standing to gather her things. “Take care, Amon.”
“You too,” he said, watching as she left the shop.
For the first time in a while, he felt a flicker of hope. In a world filled with darkness, small connections like this one reminded him of what he was fighting for.

AU where everyone is fine and alive and there’s a vaccine invented that allows ghouls to survive off of human food and RC supplements. With a peaceful solution found, ghouls would be decriminalized and start integrating openly into human society, and I’d bet that the anteiku gang would be front and center helping progress along.
Hide stays with the CCG, which still handles ghouls but is mostly social services for them at this point. Ghouls trust him a bit more than his coworkers since he’s always talking about how much he loves his half-ghoul fiance
Touka goes on to get her degree in biology to further medical accessibility for ghouls. She even convinces her brother to come home, rebuilding what’s left of her family
Yoriko, very much in love with her ghoul girlfriend, has cooking classes for ghouls who don’t have humans to teach them
Koma gets a following online and goes on talk shows to share how ghouls live and see the world. He’s happy that he can tell everyone he was the Devil ape, and becomes sort of a celebrity
Ayato is convinced to come home, and goes to school with Hinami. They finally get the chance to be kids, and even manage to make a few friends. Hinami makes little jokes about how Ayato is particularly soft around one human boy
Yoshimura councils ghouls who are struggling with trusting humans, the community knows he can be trusted and are willing to take his advice
Nishiki gets his degree and works with Kimi making ghoul-safe versions of medications. For the first time ghouls can get hrt, insulin, and antibiotics
Irimi and the black dobers join what used to be the CCG to help other ghouls integrate. She somehow manages to befriend coworkers who previously never saw ghouls as people
Roma is still working with Yoshimura, dishes are being broken
Yomo is also still working with Yoshimura, as well as taking care of his nephew. He’s the one who drives the kids to school and buys groceries, pretty much the Café’s mom
Uta still makes masks, it was his calling before and nothing has changed. He just doesn’t get quite as nervous when a human comes in
As for Kaneki, I think he’d be a teacher. He realized that he loved teaching Hinami to read, and wants to give other ghoul children who never got to go to school before a chance to learn from someone like them. He quickly becomes popular in the school where he teaches for being so adept at working with fearful and traumatized kids. If anyone knows how to help them, it’s him, and that’s exactly what he wants to do
At some point im going to write about these in my fic series, I just love these fuckers so much and want them to be happy

Enji Koma Headcanons: How you met
This is sort of a prequel to the other Enji fic here as per the request of @rejectedmoon1117
(Thanks for requesting again!)
☁︎ So he probably first found you as a threat.
☁︎ He found you in an alley that was in his territory, and you were feasting. He was furious that you dared come into his territory.
☁︎ However, you are a very kind person, so you tried to offer him some of the flesh you were eating. Your intentions were pure, but he interpreted it a different way.
☁︎ His pride filled him with fury because to him, it looked like you were giving him a handout, almost as if you pitied him. He lunged at you, his kagune out.
☁︎ You protected yourself, readying yourself into a defensive stance. Under his mask, he was stunned that you were able to do something like that, and how strong your kagune was.
☁︎ You looked him in the eyes with confusion.
☁︎ “Why did you attack me?” Your mouth and hands were dripping with blood, “I haven’t done anything wrong, have I?”
☁︎ He realized how you were innocent. There was no malice or sarcasm in your tone.
☁︎ “You know this is Devil Ape Territory, right?” His words softened at the sight at your features. You looked fragile, almost like a piece of china, and you probably only looked like this because you haven’t eaten anything recently.
☁︎ You explained that you really didn’t want to hurt anyone, so you suppressed your appetite. You only killed the man because you were starving, and that he was groping you, so you had a solid reason.
☁︎ He began to think about the situation, and came to the conclusion that you could help him stay calm throughout the day, helping him control his need for adrenaline and bloodlust.
☁︎ He offered to take you in, to which you agreed because he allowed you to safely feast in his territory, while you helped him control his cravings.
☁︎ This eventually lead to your relationship later on.
