A yellow glow creeped along the shadowed floor. The lanterns they emenated from sat in the ever busy hall. A door was slid shut. Clothes then rustled softly in the corner.

Your back still turned to the entrance, you opened an eye. Half-asleep, you still replied, "Welcome back."

More shifting.

Then, a dip in the mattress behind you.

"Like I said, I'm taking you out. No worrying about anything but where you wanna go next and if you're happy."

Closing your eyes, a smile lifted your lips.

"Alright, fine. After tomorrow. But don't think a day out is gonna make me forget you keep going to Konro for help."

He nipped at your ear. "I'm sure I can find other things to distract you with. Now go to sleep."

You laughed and nuzzled closer. "Goodnight Captain Shinmon, you stubborn lug."

You always liked to watch Asakusa's king of destruction each chance you got.

He was strong, no doubt, but that wasn't exactly why you watched him.

There was something unmistakable about him.

No matter if he was in the midst of a battle, gaze focused on the poor soul he wanted to die honorably. Fire blazing in his eyes and in the air.

Helping rebuild the town after each fight and making rounds to check up on everyone. Reluctantly replying to anyone who chatted him up or accepting any gifts people refused to let him leave without.

Watching after the two young girls who were rascals to most everyone. Training all those people in the fire force, guiding them to the right path.

It was admirable really.

Seeing how much he did for the place and how much everyone appreciated him for it.

But that one unmistakable feature is what truly keeps your attention locked on him.

It wasn't his mismatch pink eyes, his slouched shoulders, his cold and "couldn't care less" demeanor, his unspoken confidence, or his blunt remarks.

It was lips.

No, not how soft they looked or the fullness of them.

But their downward curve, the frown they seemed permanently set in.

For as long as you had known him, you had never seen him smile. No one had, really.

Had never even seen a flicker of a smirk or a brief smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

You liked to watch him because you couldn't figure that out.

He of all people had a reason to smile. He had people he cared about and vice versa, he had the bare necessities, he had stability, he had good looks.

So why?

You wanted to figure it out.

Sad to say, that was easier said than done.

Benimaru always seemed to try and swat away conversations, and he doesn't always use a kind or roundabout way either.

Try too hard and you'd probably end up as someone he'd keep an eye on. And that's not a good thing.

Still, you couldn't help your curiosity.

So you began to walk up to him, "Hey, Maru-chan."
