despite  his  talent  and  fan  fare  ,  his  personal  life  and  overall  attitude  has  long  threatened  to  undermine  his  career  .  a  career  laced  with  scandal  for  over  a  decade  .  early  on  in  life  ,  things  had  been  perfectly  laid  out  for  him  ,  all  he  had  to  do  was  follow  the  script  .  succeed  in  whatever  he  does  ,  smile  and  wave  when  out  with  his  parents  ,  and  never  hang  out  with  the  wrong  crowd  ,  in  simpler  words  :  don’t  embarrass  the  family  .  so  long  as  he  followed  his  parents  lead  ,  there  was  the  silent  promise  that  he  could  do  what  he  wanted  behind  closed  door  ,  and  that  he  did  .  but  with  a  fame  all  of  his  own  his  antics  became  much  harder  to  conceal  .  

dubbed  a  diva  on  the  turf  by  many  naysayers  ,  a  number  of  unsportsmanlike  behavior  reported  (  but  never  getting  any  major  consequences  for  )  ,  strings  of  scorned  woman  in  and  out  of  his  life  ,  and  an  affinity  for  night  life  that  could  put  jordan  belfort  to  shame  .  the  most  damaging  report  came  in  2019  ,  when  a  fight  broke  out  during  one  of  his  infamous  yacht  parties  in  the  french  rivera  .  boat  docked  by  a  rooftop  bar  where  hunter  was  reported  to  have  gotten  into  an  altercation  with  another  party  goer  (  only  one  of  a  long  string  of  altercations  he’s  been  reported  to  have  )  ,  the  fight  only  ending  once  hunter  lifted  the  other  guy  up  and  threw  him  overboard  .  the  guy  later  suing  hunter  for  over  a  million  dollar  .  it  was  a  point  in  many’s  eyes  where  it  had  become  clear  hunter  valmont  was  a  monster  .  a  narrative  he  doesn’t  particularly  love  or  hate  .  

his  parents  on  the  other  hand  couldn’t  hate  anything  more  than  his  public  persona  ,  noting  on  various  occasions  to  him  that  he  is  routinely  breaking  their  only  rule  set  in  place  for  him  .  with  his  inheritance  on  the  line  he  has  tried  his  hand  at  cleaning  up  his  image  with  his  parents  help  in  the  last  couple  of  years  but  a  leopard  can  never  truly  change  it’s  spots  .

I have so many headcanons for how things could have gone differently in Journey’s End. Basically, I consider the point where Donna reaches out to touch the Doctor’s severed hand a kind of shatterpoint in time - there were endless possible ways it could have gone. Of course, things went the way they did in canon for various reasons - Billie was only back briefly to round out Rose’s storyline, Catherine and David’s runs were coming to an end, etc.

But in a world not constrained by such realities, consider this: when Donna reaches out to touch the Doctor’s glowing severed hand, instead of creating a separate part-human Metacrisis Doctor, the hand instead merges with Donna, giving her essentially an upgrade. This allows her to assimilate all the Time Lord knowledge that ends up in her head, or at the very least allows her handle it to the point where her brain won’t explode and she doesn’t have to have her mind wiped (because in this world, our characters get to have nice things). The plot moves forward - Donna takes out the Daleks (because honestly, that whole situation was just a larger example of “Pompeii, or the world” and the Daleks had to go), all the planets are returned to their homes, we have the glorious moment of the whole damn Fam in the TARDIS dragging Earth home and such. 

But then the moment is over and everyone is set to go their separate ways. Only, when the TARDIS lands on Fucking Bad Wolf Bay, Rose immediately hugs Jackie and they whisper their final goodbyes to each other. The Doctor is a mix of confused, hopeful, and guilty. Rose, who can read him like a fucking book no matter how long they’ve been apart, lays it out for him - she’d made it clear to Jackie when she started Dimension Hopping that she was going to stay in the Prime Universe, that that was where she belonged. And she makes it very clear that she will not have this decision taken out of her hands again, so no funny business on the Doctor’s part like trying to leave her there on that damned beach.

The thing of it is, I don’t think he’d have the strength to leave her there, not in this case. Rose takes his hand in his and says she came back to save the multiverse, yes, but it wasn’t the only reason. She came back for him. She always comes back for him. It’s what she does. And Jackie, of course, adds her two cents, actually hugging the Doctor and ordering him to not only take care of her daughter, but to let her daughter take care of him too. Jackie’s near tears, of course, but she’s also known that this day would come. Rose won’t be parted from the Doctor again, and she honestly can’t blame her for that.

So eventually the TARDIS departs Pete’s World for the last time - with three people onboard instead of two. Donna then states that she wants to go spend some time with her grandfather and mother before they all get back out there. Not to mention, she’s very well aware that the Doctor and Rose need some time alone (fake whispering to Rose that the man has been an absolute giant woobie face without her and please take pity on the man). So Donna gets dropped off for her visit, and that finally leaves the Doctor in the TARDIS with Rose Tyler - as it should be.

Take your pick on what happens next - lots of serious conversations, them grinning stupidly at and cuddling each other, or they just cut to the chase and proceed to shag each other senseless on every conceivable surface in the TARDIS. Or maybe a bit of all three. Especially quite a bit of that third option. (*points up at GIF* Do no tell me that he wasn’t making plans to shag her the moment they were out of this whole crisis.)

One wonders what/how much would have changed if Rose had been there for the rest of Series 4 and beyond. There’s still the question of River, of course, but most importantly, how do Rose and the Doctor handle coming together again after years apart? They’re both different - both have been through serious hell since Canary Wharf - but one thing that’s never wavered is how much they love each other. Even when the Doctor loses his memory of who he is, he still dreamed of Rose. Rose stormed through multiple universes, undergoing serious angst and pain, to make it back to him. The love is still there. They just have to figure out their new equilibrium - while dealing with Martian insanity, the return of the Master (pretty sure he’ll have something to say about the return of the Companion Who Swallowed the Time Vortex And Lived To Talk About It Later And he Kind of Wants Her Autograph), and the attempted restoration of the Time Lords and Gallifrey. Does it all happen differently? Perhaps Tenth doesn’t end up having to sacrifice his life and lives longer? Or does he still regenerate? 

God, I want this. I want all of this.
