FUTURE IN ACTION I came upon this program for the memorial of a lost friend who left us way too young 25 years ago. Jay Hunter. That day just happened to be 25 years to the day. June 23, 1993. 💔 Yesterday I sorted through a box with decades worth of memories and hand written letters & cards to me ( I’ve saved pretty much everyone someone took the time to write me. Remember letters? 📬) 📆 So much went down back then and this former gang member turned community activist and motivational speaker didn’t get shot, it was a car accident. 😢 It was the time of the LA riots and Jay was able to unite Crip friends, Blood friends, and a rainbow coalition of all sorts of folks including this long haired gay hippie and soon to be vegetarian. 💚 Future In Action was the name of our organization and I was actually a Board Member. We helped clean up communities and speak at events. We were even on the Montell Williams show. 💜 Have things changed since then? Yes; No. Both. 25 years since and I work for a TV studio predominantly producing, directing, creating, writing and acting shows by and for the Black Market. For me with 34 years in the Entertainment Biz witnessing 1st hand the overwhelming white male dominance, it’s so refreshing to be part of this positive change. 🙏 Jay would be proud I know. He also would be on the front line of activism with both the police aggression as well Black on Black violence. He would have gone so much farther and would have brought so many more people and communities along with him. 🏆 He was a handsome powerhouse who had been on many sides of many fences and just wanted peace ✌🏽 and progress for all. 🌟 A superstar taken way too early. I miss you Jay. How will you put your future in action and who will share the load and ride with you on that journey?
