books to read meme

While I was on vacation, @amarguerite tagged me to share what books I'm hoping to read in 2025 (? something like that anyway) and I'm finally getting around to responding!

I didn't manage to read a lot of books in 2024, but 2025 might be different! I have some nonfiction I plan to read:

I've already started on Straight Acting: the many queer lives of William Shakespeare by Will Tosh. It's nonfiction (mainly), giving a lot of context about what Shakespeare's life would have been like (including his education, life in London, and more) and the ways in which what would now be considered queerness was actually sort of mainstream at the time. This book was a holiday gift and it is fascinating!

One of my birthday presents is a book called Remedios Varo: Encuentros, a catalog from an exhibition of my favorite artist. I assume it includes a lot of pictures but also essays.

I also want to read Ed Yong's first book (because I loved his second one so much), I Contain Multitudes: The Microbes Within Us and a Grander View of Life, which is nonfiction about the microbiome.

I used to exclusively read fiction, but I seem to be in a phase of not reading fiction much at all. That said, I might try to get back into it, but I think I cannot engage with fiction about the real world, so I may have to stick with fantasy and maybe sci-fi or historical fiction, and even then it probably needs to employ a lot of humor.

Some possibilities:

I'm already most of the way through the Dragon Age lore books (not sure what they're called. They're sort of like nonfiction about a fictional world!) because Wife is going to start playing the new Dragon Age game soon and I need to remind myself about the history and characters from the previous games.

¡Hola!. Aquí me encuentro lanzando un anzuelo en forma de búsqueda y captura de personas con ánimos, tiempo y conocimiento a la hora de llevar adelante la administración de un foro, al cual de momento sitúe en Salem, Massachussets. ¿De que irá el foro?.
