Four Sisters and a Wedding (2013)

Four Sisters and a Wedding captures an often ignored aspect of the relationship between siblings. The sisters in this story can be quite mean but their snide comments come from a complicated place. Their aggression comes from years of knowing each other intimately and always choosing not to speak up to avoid hurting each others’ feelings until now. Before they went out of their way to not upset each other, now they do it unintentionally. It’s a drama that’ll make your eyes leak and it’s also a silly, lighthearted comedy.

When CJ (Enchong Dee), the youngest and only boy in the family announces he’s getting married, his sisters believe he’s making a mistake. Once they arrive home to the Philippines, Teddie (Toni Gonzaga), Robbie Bea Alonzo), Alex (Angel Locsin), and Gabbie (Shaina Magdayao) make it their mission to stop the upcoming nuptials.

While you understand why the sisters are concerned for their brother, they take it too far and if anyone needs a talking to, it's them. One look at the family wall of certificates and awards makes it clear mom Connie Reyes) has a favorite. This pressure pushes the girls to fulfill certain expectations some of them just can’t meet. Teddie is lying to her family about her job in Madrid and has convinced her co-worker, Frodo (Janus del Prado) to come along and pretend they are in a relationship. Bobbie is living with her boyfriend Tristan (Sa Milby) and his daughter Trixie (Samantha Faytaren) in New York. He’s asked her to marry him but she refuses his ring because she’s convinced Trixie won’t accept her as a new mother. Alex is in a relationship with Bobbie’s ex, Chad (Bernard Palanca) – that’s causing all sorts of tensions. Meanwhile, the supposedly maternal Gabbie is the one orchestrating the breakup scheme. When nasty comments about Princess’ appearance aren’t enough, theories about her family’s business are brought in. If these ladies told anyone else what they were planning, they’d get a cold reality check in an instant. In this echo chamber, they convince themselves that what they’re doing is the right thing to do.

At certain points, Four Sisters and a Wedding becomes a cartoon. Princess’s parents own a massage parlor whose specialty obviously can't be what it seems. You know what the gag will be right away but to make the sisters believe there’s something nasty going on, people have to overreact and word their sentences in unbelievable ways. Other story elements are ridiculous – Princess’ parents Jeanette (Carmi Martin) and Honey Boy (Boboy Garovillo) for example – but they make you laugh, which creates the necessary peaks and valleys to ensure you'll be weeping at the end.

It all comes to a big, emotional climax where nearly everyone cries, all the nastiness is called out, and vows are exchanged. Also addressed are specific cultural issues. The sisters living abroad, superstitions that need to be addressed, cultural taboos and obligations, etc. That little extra goes a long way. Either this occasionally wacky scenario seems more believable because it’s set far away, seeing issues you grew up with on-screen makes it more personal, or it’s just the novelty of seeing something different. Stayed up until 4am for two consecutive nights but i regret nothing. Though its been years since their last project together and being my favorite pinoy loveteam, my fangirl heart is still hoping that the network would bring them back together in the future. Theyre both single now so why not? I still couldnt get over my enrich (enchong+erich) obsession so i decided to go twitter and ig and searched for their tags, and to my surprise they have several pictures together which were taken just recently and after stalking some more accounts i stumbled upon a post stating that enchong and erich are gonna have a project together soon. This made me so happy. KIX newest reality series “Extreme Ends” featuring Enchong Dee and Ria Atayde

Last Saturday, we sat in with Enchong Dee as he talked about his new experiences in Hongkong, along with his good friend Ria Atayde during KIX newest reality series “Extreme Ends” media lunch at Cabalen Restaurant, SM City Manila.

Extreme Ends was created so that viewers from across the globe can see a new perspective about Hongkong aside from what people commonly think and do when they go there. It’s like seeing the other side of the country because each episode will highlight different “extreme” activities to try to.

Aside from acting, the young actor is also known for his love for travel and adventure, so it’s not surprising that the Hongkong Tourism board together with Celestial Entertainment have chosen him to be Philippines’ representative for Extreme Ends. He then recalled how he personally chose Ria Atayde to become his partner.

With its theme “Highs and Lows”, Enchong discovered that Hongkong has more to offer for travellers like him. Even though it’s his fifth time, he excitedly revealed the things he did for the show which are basically new to him. One of his unforgettable moments is dining at a Michelin star restaurant. By far, it’s the highest Michelin star restaurant he’s been to.

Watch out for three more celebrities with their chosen guests from South East Asian countries that will be joining Enchong Dee and Ria Atayde in Extreme Ends. Airing on October 17, Wednesday at 9:30PM!
