#Encantober
Encantober is an Encanto fandom event with themes to challenge artists and writers throughout the month of October (link to theme list in a copy/pasteable format here). Encantober is open to any and all art and writing, including sketches, drabbles, one-shots, and more.
Fanworks can be shared via the #Encantober tag on tumblr and/or posted as part of the AO3 collection here.
The goal of the bingo event is to fill five prompts in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. You can use the bingo card on this post, or send us an ask to receive an individual randomized card. You must send the ask off anon, so that we can respond privately.
Rules:
Works must be a part of the Encanto (2021) fandom. OCs, AUs, and crossovers are permitted.
Works must adhere to one of the Encantober themes.
Series of Encantober works are welcome.
No incest.
QA:
Q: Can you explain the free space? A: "Comment 5+ people" means comment on works for this year's Encantober posted by at least five different people. This can be a (positive!) comment left in the tags or body of a reblog, or a comment on AO3. It's our reminder to check out what everyone is doing!
Q: Can I link prompts together? Or cover multiple prompts with one work? A: Linking works together to create a story series is a wonderfully creative idea! However, combining multiple prompts into one work defeats the purpose of the multi-prompt challenge. Each work (or chapter in a series) must focus on one prompt.
Q: Do I have to complete every prompt? A: You do not! The goal is to fill five prompts in a row, but you can choose to complete fewer, or more. This is meant to be fun, so please don’t stress yourself out.
Q: Do I have to complete prompts in a specific order/at a specific time? A: Not this year! Fill out your bingo card at your leisure :)
Q: I followed all the rules. Why aren’t my posts being reblogged? A: Either you didn't indicate which prompt you're filling, forgot to tag #Encantober, or the admin team just missed it! We’re doing the best we can across time zones <3

@encantober-official late entry for day 28: Moon!
A short explanation of the premise and a bonus Isabela with a short haircut under the cut!
So, in the place where I live there is (was) a superstition that says that you shouldn't cut your hair when the moon is aging, because it will grow back slower than before. I couldn't find if it is possible that such a superstition could exist in Colombia mid 20th century, but Encanto takes place in a fictional world anyway, so why not.
When I read the list of prompts for Encantober, I somehow connected Moon and Isabela in this thing where she wants to cut her hair to 'start a new life'. I planned the comic to be a joke where she answers Dolores that she hates her long hair and then on the last panel she's like doing gardening with her short hair not getting in the way like the long hair would.
But then I thought that this way I could create like a negative image that now that Isabela is free, she rejects everything feminine that was forced upon her. I might be overthinking it, but ultimately, I'm happy that I changed this comic to have Isabela express her desire to be herself and make her choices without her essentially disliking the way she used to look like.
No other thoughts, it's 4:34 am here, head empty, here's Isabela with short hair

Spidersona-June
In honor of ATSV'S first anniversary, I did a month for Spidersona's!
Tumblr media
Writers & artists are welcome! PROSHIP DNI!!!
Rules
Be friendly & kind to other's work (whether it be art or writing)
Works must be a part of the ATSV (2023) fandom. OCs, AUs, and crossovers are permitted.
Works must adhere to one of the spidersona-june themes.
Series of spidersona-june works are welcome.
Hobie is a teen to me (16 or 17) but if you see him as an adult and ship him with an adult, whether it be a canon character or spidersona, DNI.
NO BODY/FATSHAMING! Yeah, I saw the BS involving a certain spidersona and the amount of fatphobic comments she got on tiktok. NONE OF THAT HERE!
(I got the questions & some rules from the Encantober page because I honestly didn't know what to put there.)
Q: Can I link prompts together? Or multiple prompts into one work? A: Linking works together to create a story series is a wonderfully creative idea! However, combining multiple prompts into one work defeats the purpose of the daily prompt challenge. Each work (or chapter in a series) should focus on one prompt.
Q: Do I have to participate every day? A: You do not have to participate every day. This is meant to be fun, so please don’t stress yourself out.
Q: Do I need to publish my work on the specific day listed? A: No. I ask that you not publish before the specific day you're filling, but I will try to reblog late entries.
Have fun and feel free to share this to other sites too but CREDIT ME!
PLEASE REBLOG & SHARE!!!
*cough* you might be interested @rinverse *cough*
Also, for day 28: "reaction to the spot" I mean this

A good tying point
If there were any coffee-fans in the family, it were Luisa and Pepa
@encantober-official prompt — Coffee
Tumblr media
Coffee was pretty popular in Colombia. So, Madrigals had drank it daily. And naturally, there were avident coffee drinkers in the family.
In case of the Madrigals — a certain ginger and a giant. Pepa always felt better with after a cup. The skies were clearing with just one sip of the dark caffeinate liquid. And Luisa fell in additionate love with coffee after professionally stealing. Pepa's back when she was a child and didn't have Mirabel to cuddle yet. Since that day Pepa had to make sure her coffee is placed high where certain child couldn't get her hands on it. Well, until Luisa outgrew everyone and the high placement didn't matter at all.
But Pepa also had to admit it was nice to just sit with a cup of coffee sometimes. She and Luisa discussed it with such details that neither actually cared about. But it was fun and enjoyable way to spend time.
She took a small sip, allowing sugar to melt on her tongue. Luisa just swallowed the entire portion in one go. Her size makes it look so tiny, like porcelain toys between her fingers.
"Hey!" Pepa clicked her tongue in a fake disapproval as Luisa poured down another cup. "It's not fair, wait for me!"
Luisa chuckled. "Tia, you're the last person who can blame me,"
"I just don't want to be left out without coffee, at this rate you will drink the entire pot." Woman pouted, ringing the metal of her spoon agaist the pale brim.
They relaxed, slowly consuming a caffeinate drink. This was one way of family-quality time that wasn't risking with causing a mass destruction. Just laughing over nice hot cup of coffee. Maybe Julieta was right when she said Pepa has gotten Luisa addicted to coffee. But who made her get Mirabel so late on? And seriously, Luisa was a pretty enjoyable company. Pepa probably wasn't as close to her as she was to Isabela. But she knew she shared quite a few things with the middle girl too. Restless, when her mind always needed to be busy with something. Whenever it was a new book or another list of chores to do. And with it came the need for a stupid crave for physical activity with some idiots called 'boyish'. Oh, back when Pepa was a child, some adults seemed to put their life purpose to inform Pepa she wasn't acting like a girl. She never really bothered with them, Mama allowed her to run all over and do whatever she wanted. Besides, saying that girls can't be restless and love running around? Yeah, this was pretty bitchy opinion that deserved a punch in the nose.
Luisa was cool. Hardworking and kind for those she cared about. Pepa would never forget how she cradled Mirabel with almost motherly care when they were so little. Always making sure she didn't cause harm by accident. Even if she was a bit snappish at times, Pepa knew it wasn't much different from her. When emotions spilled out of control, making her feel terrible for breaking out.
And having a coffee-drinking companion at times was fun. Giving them some form of silent connection and way to quietly spend time together, whenever they didn't have time for more active thing to do. They did love to challenge each other with their gifts. And Luisa was the one that could possibly stand against Pepa's weather without much discomfort.
In a way it was almost iconic. Pepa needed to provide the weather to grow these beans of coffee. Sun or rain, she had controlled the process of making them rich, impregnated with sun. And Luisa chores definitely had included collecting the coffee. Then again, before the whole rebuild thing it was harder to think what kind of work Luisa wasn't doing. And now they both sat and used the coffee they had made with all this care.
Call Pepa a bit too passionate, but she would never imagine her day without a nice cup of coffee. It had guaranteed no clouds in the morning. Allowing Pepa to shine with her favorite taste. Who could blame her? It tasted so good. And Luisa had shared this trait. Jumping in when the middle of the day to get a cup. Ignoring the sweat that would come from a steaming drink. Because, as Pepa assumed, manual labor made Luisa drip with the thick stickiness way more than any coffee ever could.
When Pepa needed a company or some relaxing talk, getting Luisa on a cup of coffee was the best way for it to come. And it also gave both an excuse to drink once again. She adored some good relaxation, with a nice drink to share. Just don't tell their sisters.

Encanto Fic RECS (Part I)
(*REPOST due to some unnoticed file errors during first posting)
I've been wanting to do one of these fanfic lists for a while now, but never really got to finishing any. Today, however, will be the time I finally make and post my silly little thoughts on some of my favorite fics in the Encanto fandom.
My personal taste is big ol' mixed bag of different tropes, AUs, and (platonic) relationships. However, I'd say I'm usually geared towards your typical gen, hurt/comfort or angst with a happy ending (most of the time).
(OFFICIAL WARINING: Because this is mostly a recommendation list, there are a few fics that may contain upsetting or triggering subject matter. Those fics have been labeled with a little *** next to the title, followed by a warning of what themes they may contain.)
This is merely a Part I, only covering multi-chapter fics I've read so far. Part 2 will be out shortly, containing one/two-shot fics and the ones I'm currently reading or plan to.
With that said, let's get right into it!
To fall apart, to reunite [T]
- Ongoing | by ADabOfBlessings ( @adabofblessings ) & Wikluk ( @wikluk )
Set in an AU where Mirabel doesn't survive Casita's collapse, Julieta struggles the most in the midst of her youngest’s death, hoping against hope to getting her back. Fortunately, she might just have a chance.
This fic is absolutely heart-wrenching, but in the best way possible. I was never as much of a Julieta fan as so many other people were, but I'm pleasantly surprised how much more I grew invested in her since reading this fic. Reading (mostly) from her perspective really helps enhance her character - especially once the rest of the family and even the townspeople get some time to shine. (Just saying, the characterization of Mariano’s grandmother(?) quickly became one of my favorite details of any background character.
One Step Closer [T]
One Step Beyond [T]
Complete | by Breanna (on AO3)
Part of a Bruno-and-Mirabel-centric series, these two fics explore the (platonic!) relationship these two develop with one another and their family in the time set during All Of You (Closer), and even post-canon (Beyond).
I REALLY love the (second) father-daughter sense Mirabel has with Bruno (it will make a lot of sense later in Closer), which leads to some very well-written wholesome and bittersweet moments parsed throughout.
A Place For Crows (to rest their feet) [G]
Complete | by Acewithapaintbrush ( @acewithapaintbrush )
PEDRO LIVES HALLELUJAH!!
As the note above suggests, Pedro did indeed survive the marauder attack and lived for the past 50 years in a town far, far away from the Encanto. Fortunately, after he discovers the new crack in the mountain, he rediscovers his family and how they've grown without him. This fic also explores how much the family's all grown since All Of You, but where they still struggle in a post-canon world.
I really love this one, even as someone who's… not thaaat much into the ‘[insert dead character] Lives AU’. There are both some wholesome and awkward moments where Pedro re-connects with Alma, his children, and the rest of his family. (Let's just say there's one really funny scene early on involving Mirabel, Bruno, and a classic bloodline misunderstanding.)
Because of how long Pedro's been away from his family, there's obviously a heck of a lot he's unaware of (which the family doesn't seem all too keen on sharing with him hmmmm….?) This leads to quite a bit of delicious angst and hurt/comfort, especially towards the end, but I'm happy to say it all resolves quite nicely by the end.
Mariposa [T] *
- Complete | by cloudyencanto ( @cloudy-encanto )
*(mild cw: brief child abuse and violent moments)*
An Encantober series from 2022, writing (again, mostly) from Alma's POV, with each chapter topic centering around one of the main prompts. Starting from her childhood years as a triplet herself, to meeting Pedro, having the triplets, leading the Encanto, to becoming an Abuela.
All of this really culminates into a vast character exploration showing just how much Alma had grown from a mere Caterpillar to a powerful, headstrong Butterfly.
(**As a bit of forewarning, there are a few moments early on that might be difficult to read. **These include moments where Alma's mother verbally and physically abuses her children, as well as quite a few violent moments once the marauders attack the village, and Pedro and Alma are forced to leave.)
Encanto (Tía Pepa POV) [G]
- Ongoing | by cloudy_encanto
Like Mariposa, this one's told from the POV of another character - being Pepa and her side of the family (and a few others, like Isabela, sprinkled in here and there.)
Because this one's told over the course of the movie, there are a lot of new scenes that feature the warm-colored family and what they were doing when the focus was elsewhere on Mirabel or somewhere else. There are several tooth-achingly sweet scenes that really show how much these characters love and care for one another, as well as several tense, angsty scenes that won't fail in tugging on your heartstrings.
Tremors [T]
- Ongoing | by Missilestorm ( @missilestorms )
A post-canon fic where Mirabel receives a gift after Casita's revival. The downside, however, is that this gift causes literal cracks to form. Bruno acts as a much-needed supporter and anchor for Mirabel, who must learn how to keep her new gift under control.
Each character's emotional struggles are shown incredibly well - particularly that of Mirabel and Bruno. It's heartbreaking to see how much anguish this gift causes Mirabel, especially considering how much she's encouraged her family to see their individual values that are separate from tying back to their gifts. On Bruno's end, it's sweet seeing how much he cares about Mirabel, recognizing her struggles with having a potentially dangerous gift, and consistently providing support or an extra hand to grab on to when it becomes too much. This sentiment is also applied to the family themselves, who also reach out to help in whatever ways they can.
Old Habits Die Hard [M] ***
- Complete | by Missilestorm
**TW for SA/Underage !! **
Set just after Casita’s reconstruction begins, Mirabel is sexually assaulted by a rogue townsperson. With Bruno acting as her main supporter and confidant, this fic explores the trauma of the event itself and how past, unresolved familial trauma bleeds into it.
This fic is honestly one of my favorites. I'd say it's somewhere in my top-five favorites out of all the stories I've read thus far. This story is just so raw and heartbreaking - which always hits harder when it's happening to characters you love. Not to mention, the author's handling of the subject matter is done with as much respect and care as I would hope a story with content matter like this should require. I especially love how each character (except for the villain mf) - particularly in the family - is written and how they react to the devastating events playing out around them. Despite this fic mostly centering around Bruno and Mirabel, the rest of the family have time to shine (some more than others), and man, just reading how much they care and want to help Mirabel is - just -gah! I love it, man.
I definitely recommend checking this one out if you're up to it.
we see how brave you've been [G]
- Complete | by hearth_goddess | (Mirabel & Antonio-centric)
Set in alternating pre-canon and canon, this fic is kind of a character study told through the different perspectives of the triplets. The scenes from the triplets' perspectives are of sweet moments involving Mirabel, Antonio, and their friendship (or short moments of just them with Mirabel or Antonio.) These scenes include moments set pre-canon, in-between, and during canon scenes.
One of my favorite gen pairings in the Encanto fandom is the one shared between Mirabel and Antonio. They share an incredibly sweet, wholesome, and powerful bond, despite the... admittedly little time they actually share together in the movie. But this fic definitely fills in the unseen gaps in their friendship, particularly in the moments preceding Antonio's ceremony. Seeing the triplets' reactions to the loving bond the two youngest grandchildren share is just so sweet and proves that, despite everything that led to the cracks, this family never stopped caring about one another.
Cold and Numb [T] ***
- Complete | by Amisaurus
**TW for Self-Harm and Suicide (Major Character Death) **
This one's just sad. Like - very, very sad. Set sometime after Antonio's gift ceremony (and presumably before the cracks appear), Mirabel struggles a lot with her self-worth, believing she isn't wanted in the slightest. Unfortunately, this isn't helped at all with how terribly Alma treats her in this fic and, despite good intentions, how her parents, sisters, and cousins are unable to understand not having a gift. This leads to a devastating moment in the first chapter, with the second chapter showing just how much this action hurt the family.
(With that said, there is a hopeful moment in the second chapter.)
When The Bell Tolls One [NOT RATED]
- Complete | by BudBrock (Alma-centric)
We got another Alma POV!!
Written a bit like 'A Christmas Carol,' this is an ‘Encanto watches Encanto AU,’ where Alma is shown and reacts to the events of the movie after the scene where she begs Pedro to “open [her] eyes.”
What can I say? I'm a sucker for POV character explorations like these, especially for mixed characters like Alma. Out of any Alma-centric fics, this one's definitely one of my favorites. In between, there are some funny moments reading Alma's reactions to certain scenes. However, there are also several moments where Alma is given a bird’s-eye view into the harm she'd unintentionally caused for her family.
Sound of Silence [T]
- Complete | by JilyFirecracker
Also set in an AU where Mirabel dies in Casita's collapse, with the fallout told from the perspectives of varying characters (Agustín, Pepa, Luisa, Camilo, Antonio, and Julieta.)
Definitely a bit of a sad one, especially during flashbacks of each character's core memories with Mirabel. But I really liked Julieta’s part, especially with the note it ends on.
Shining [G]
- Complete | by Sokkas_First_Fangirl ( @sokkas-first-fangirl )
Since the grandkids (not including Antonio) were young, Bruno and his sisters spent their summers at a lake in the Encanto. After Antonio's birth and Bruno’s return, the family makes a date to spend a day at that same lake for the first time in forever.
SWEET SUMMER FAMILY SHENANIGANS! The entire family is written so well, and there are many scenes that show how much stronger their shared bond has become. This is such a wonderful fic to read at a lake or beach on a hot summer day.
That's that for the recommended multi-chapter fics I've read so far. It goes without saying that all of these authors are so incredibly talented and absolutely deserve all the credit for their incredible stories.
Part II will be out shortly...

Take Back the Kingdom Master List
I've decided to compile everything related to Take Back the Kingdom in one easy place. This entire universe has been co-written with @optimistic-violinist
Fics by Us
Take Back the Kingdom: This is the main fic that as of posting this has one chapter left. (Edit 3/29/24: Now complete plus one epilogue) It's a fantasy kingdom/modern AU with found family, adventure, mystery, a smidge of humor, and buckets of angst. Rated T, currently 169K words
The Appendices: These are outtakes and other material adjacent to the main fic.
To Fall Apart (to reunite): A deep dive into Bruno's backstory using the 2023 Encantober prompts. Fleshes out his relationship with Razili and gives more backstory for Oscar. Includes bits and pieces of the yet to be published Like Ships.
Like Ships: Bruno/Razili's story

What if when Bruno, Antonio, and Mirabel climb out of the wall from behind the painting, they don't end up in the right place?
Listen for the tolling bell, for after the clock strikes 12, the sun will rise.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaa Hi, it's been quite a while hasn't it!? 12 hours til sunrise finally gets an update!? More likely than you think! This is chapter 18 - Sleep I no longer consider this Encantober reblogable because the new Encantober 2024 is happening soon! Now this is just a regular fic that follows the Encantober 2023 prompt list.
(Please don't bother rebloging this to the Encantober blog - let the new Encantober stuff shine instead)

Day 24 of Encantober 🌈✨ 7 days to go
The final week countdown begins 🥹 thank you for following this story, I really love you guys.
Today’s prompt: Book
Excerpt:
Luisa glowed in excitement, because Abuela didn't usually pay her so much attention. Luisa decided it must be because her special birthday was coming up, and soon Luisa would be able to help the family, too.
"This one is about donkeys that find their way home." Luisa told Alma, eyes shining bright as she put the book in her lap. "And this one is about unicorns. It's a really good one."
Isabela and Dolores leaned into eachother, eyelids already growing heavy from all the work they'd done today. Luisa smiled, piling more books onto Abuela's lap.
"This is about dragons," Luisa's chest was puffed with pride now. "And it was a present from Tia. And Tio gave me this one too, about rats." The pile got bigger and bigger as Luisa continued, so excited she forgot to take a breath as she listed them. "Princesses, dogs, capybaras, flowers-“
"I want to read your favourite." Alma chuckled, liking the way her granddaughter's eyes lit up at her words.
"My favourite?" It took Luisa by surprise. Alma nodded, her smile warm with love.
Alma gently put the books down on the dresser while Luisa hurried off.
"Well, there is one..." Luisa called from beside her bed, glancing back at Alma before slowly pulling a book out from under her pillow. "I don't keep this one in the shelf, because you know, it's too important."
Alma watched her granddaughter carry the book over like it was made of glass.
Luisa carefully placed the book onto her lap and Alma's expression softened. It was a homemade book, written by a child, though Alma recognised that this wasn't made by Luisa.
"This is your favourite?" Alma whispered.
Luisa nodded, hopping up into Abuela's lap and cuddling her. "My favourite in the whole world."
Alma carefully opened to the first page, recognising her daughter's neat illustrations and writing.
"The lonely horse." Alma began to read. "By Julieta Madrigal."

Works must be a part of the Encanto (2021) fandom. OCs, AUs, and crossovers are permitted.
Works must adhere to one of the Encantober themes.
Series of Encantober works are welcome.
No incest.
QA:
Q: Can I link prompts together? Or multiple prompts into one work? A: Linking works together to create a story series is a wonderfully creative idea! However, combining multiple prompts into one work defeats the purpose of the daily prompt challenge. Each work (or chapter in a series) should focus on one prompt.
Q: Do I have to participate every day? A: You do not have to participate every day. This is meant to be fun, so please don’t stress yourself out.
Q: Do I need to publish my work on the specific day listed? A: No. We ask that you not publish before the specific day you're filling, but we will reblog late entries.
Q: Why aren’t my posts being reblogged? A: Either you posted it out of order (we will reblog late prompts, but not early ones!), forgot to tag #Encantober, or the admin team just missed it! We’re doing the best we can across timezones <3

My fanfic, a master post
Now that I’ve posted, oh, more than two different stories on AO3, it’s time for a post that lists them all.
First and longest, there’s
Artificial Shortages
Mirabel finds her Tío Bruno living in the walls. He's in terrible health, is failing at self-care, and says he just wants to be forgotten.
The miracle still needs saving. But Mirabel’s new top priority is saving Tío Bruno.
People have called this a “more realistic” version of Mirabel finding Bruno in the walls. I’m not sure if that’s what it really is, but it’s definitely less Disney and more angst (and spiders).
It’s an AU that’s just like canon until one not-even-all-that-bad accidental injury tips Bruno's physical and mental health into a horrible downward spiral. If only he’d asked for help, he’d be fine. But he’s Bruno and he can’t bring himself to do that. Mirabel’s horrified and makes saving him her top priority, but it’s easier said than done. Expect lots and lots of Bruno sadness, but also a happy ending.
And a rather different multichapter work:
The Seasons Change In Turn
Casita has fallen, but some of its mysteries remain. For one thing, where is Bruno?
A story for Encantober 2023.
This is my attempt at a fast-moving mystery story with a twisty plot, based on the Encantober 2023 prompt list. Is this a stupidly overambitious undertaking for a slow writer like me? We’ll see.
Next:
No Use Crying
The Madrigals have a new cat. Unfortunately they didn’t okay this with the local small rodent enthusiast, who’s hiding in the walls. Can Bruno protect his friends without upsetting the children, revealing his presence, or getting ensnared by the cuteness?
I wrote this short story for Encanto Milk Day in 2022. It’s actually the first completed work of fiction I’ve ever published, and I’m quite proud of it. It’s Bruno in the walls again, because that’s a topic that fascinates me. What can he do when the family’s new pet starts hunting his rat friends? No cats were harmed in the making of this fic; Bruno’s too much of a softie for that.
The next three stories were written for Encantober in 2022; I’m in awe of the people who managed all 31 days when I only managed a few!
The Green-Eyed Rat’s Caterpillar
Luzette bought an old hand-made picture book in a yard sale. Her friend Nita says it’s impossible.
A little one-shot about some modern characters who discover something that Bruno made. The item first came up in Artificial Shortages, but no knowledge of AS is required to enjoy this one.
Endurance
If he said her name, called for help, she would answer. Probably. Possibly. He’s never tested it, because he’s always tried to protect her from needing to worry about him.
A little bit of backstory from Artificial Shortages. In the walls, Bruno is protecting more than one niece, but at great cost to himself. Can he stay strong as his body grows weaker? I’m not entirely happy with this one. I think it lacks some things I would have liked to put in, but on the other hand it was written very quickly, and for me that’s an achievement.
See Something Terrible
When Camilo loses his gift, he is stuck in the most embarrassing shape possible.
This is my third Encantober story, and it’s completely different. A silly scenario involving Camilo and Bruno, or rather, Bruno and the little man who came back with Mirabel and Alma on the horse, and who is unaccountably getting hugs from Camilo’s mother and aunt ...
Señora Grijalva Requests a Book Report
The triplets are 15 and their teacher wants them to write yet another book report. But Julieta is too busy to read, Pepa just rereads books she’s already reported on, and Bruno hates writing about “meh” books yet is too self-conscious to write about his favourites.
Then Bruno has an idea. An idea that makes all three triplets’ homework much more fun.
But he’s reckoned without Señora Grijalva’s ulterior motive.
Something different: teenage triplets, a teacher OC as a main character, and my take on how a much younger Bruno does visions. Also a magical shop.
Two Cats In The Yard
Four days after Casita falls, Bruno tells Mirabel about an intriguing and confusing side to his gift.
A fluffy short story I wrote as a tribute to the Discord server Casa Brainrot and my fellow writers there. To say any more would be to spoil the fun.
Trifles
It’s Noche Buena (Christmas Eve) in the new Casita, and there’s a Christmassy surprise on the dinner table, courtesy of Bruno and Mirabel. But Bruno hasn’t turned up to eat. Alma goes to talk to him.
Written for a Secret Santa in 2023. A bit of fluff, a bit of angst, a bit of (British) Christmas (via one of Bruno’s visions) and a postcanon Alma POV.
Finally, for completeness, shoved right down to the bottom so you won’t notice it, is the very first fic I posted:
Between Frames
With their house in ruins, the Madrigals fall back on their neighbours' hospitality. Osvaldo "Not-Special Special" has room for Mirabel and one of her relatives, but he's not prepared for who Mirabel brings with her.
Wherever Bruno's been for the past ten years, he obviously brought home enough bad luck to topple the Casa Madrigal. Still, the other Madrigals insist someone's got to take him in, and Osvaldo's drawn the short straw.
Sounds promising, right? Unfortunately I didn’t make a proper plan before I posted the first chapter, and I’ve never managed to work out how the rest of it should go. I might continue it one day, but don’t hold your breath. Still, there’s one chapter, and I don’t think it’s terrible.
I’ll try to keep this post updated as I write more.

We need a new foundation
For many years, Luisa was used for people acting like her physical strength was the only way she could be useful.
Abuela was the least person from whom she had expected a difference
@encantober-official prompt — Build
Tumblr media
Luisa groans, rubbing her eyes. She reached for the steaming coffee pot. The family was slowly getting used to their lack of magic. It still hurt tho. Like an essential part of her was ripped out, leaving nothing but a gaping hole that Luisa didn't know how to fill.
The breakfast table was noisy. Even more so than before Casita's collapse. Adjusting was going slowly but surely. Even if an idea of taking a break (not even talking about a whole day off) still felt like a bizarre dream that Luisa would never have on reality. Because there was always something to do, no matter if it was a holiday or the weekend. There was always more work to pile up and carry on her shoulders. Like a dozen of brisks. Of course, now when family suddenly acknowledged Luisa didn't have to work all the time (that she wasn't completely worthless if she wasn't constantly serving others). It just... Didn't feel right. This idea was burned into her brain for the past fourteen years just to break away in just one night.
Seeing somebody else doing her job was strange. Luisa had to bury down her wish to go and help Papá and Tío Felix to carry the table outside. Even without her gift, Luisa still turned to be stronger than anyone else. It just didn't feel right.
She dropped into her chair, taking a big sip of her bitter dark coffee. Okay, sure, they would eat and Luisa is sailed at work. Cleaning the space and all this stuff. Collapse had left a huge mess. Well, sort of what you could expect from a giant house getting destroyed.
Abuela lifted her skirt, stepping out of the house. She looked over the family, whoever was awake by now and ready to help. Honestly, if anyone's change felt so strange, it was her. Abuela still was strict, but the way she expressed love now was so much bigger. She acted so much more sweet with everyone. Doesn't mean Luisa had anything against it. She just needed some time to get used to the screen. And proper manners only added to Abuela’s gentleness.
"Good morning, how's today?" She asked, holding her wrinkled palms together. Luisa leaned on the back of her chair, sipping black drink "Do you plan on working today? I am going at meeting to plan new building." Her face turned to her granddaughter. "Luisa, do you want to come?"
Luisa blinked, her eye twitched. Did she hear it right? "What?" She re-asked, very confused. Why would Abuela even suggest her to help with planning and... well, mental tasks?
"It's better to get together everyone who has more or less experience in building or construction." The old woman explained. "You have some buildings in your story, made singularly by you, if I’m not mistaken"
Luisa bit her lip. It was right, sure. Her endless list of chores included building hew places or the maintenance of old. It made sense, taking her immense strength that could compete with the whole town combined. But there still was enough rubbish to get rid off. And Luisa was the strongest in the town even without her gift, so she would be a huge help in her normal part of carrying heavy things. And the idea that Abuela, out of all people, asked to help her with something that wasn’t s form of hard exhausting job...
"You don't have to agree." Her Papá got into the talk. "If you don't want to–"
"No, no." Luisa had cut him off roughly. "I just didn't expect this." Again, it was Luisa's job to do physical manual labour. Not mind tasking. She was the one to do things without questioning why she had to do them. And now, nobody else than her own grandmother wanted her to get with something other than that. "Are you sure, Abuela? I mean, there's still a lot of cleaning."
Alma nodded. "If you want to help with taking old debris out, it's okay. I just feel like you have enough knowledge to help with blueprints. Especially as the one who both lived in Casita and knows about construction as well."
This felt strange. Even with all the talk that happened a while ago, with somebody telling Luisa she wasn't just her strength. The thought of being needed in other way... Just seemed abnormal. Especially when Luisa seemed to be the strongest person in the village even now, bounded by human limit. And she just assumed it made sense for her to keep helping with physical job she always did. But instead, Abuela suggested her to help with something that didn't requested her physical strength but rather Luisa's knowledge and experience. Abuela who no even a month ago would praise Luisa for her physical strength and how she was always ready to serve their community. Now was the one to get Luisa to do something that didn’t require her ability. Abuela was the one to make them serve community and help with their gifts so much. But now the one to try and seek beyond Luisa’s.
Luisa wasn't really used to he seen outside of brute power. But... she had to admit, it felt nice in a way. Being acknowledged as someone other than the one who can carry anything. Just unexpected. Luisa wondered for years if anyone could ever see her as anything other than a pack animal on whom they could throw every burden. And after now, once they started all this healing, Luisa wasn’t sure how long would it take for anyone to just think. Understand her. Perhaps that’s what’s happening when you put your self-worth at the fact of how useful you could be for years.
And she certainly didn’t mind helping again. Maybe get her chance to shine and tear the old threads a bit more. Maybe the fact that she still was stronger than anyone pushed her back into her role a bit. Unintentionally, but if Luisa thought about it, she still tended to work more than heeded. Doing her best to be helpful.
"I'm on it!" Luisa nodded, a little unsured. She took a deep breath, getting her composure. "When do we start?"

2nd and last chapter of Forecast is out!
Wanted to post it before the absolute hurricane of fan works that will be #Encantober. ;) Looking forward to seeing lots of great stuff from people!
Personally, I wanna join that event, but I'm stressing out about it a little. Of the, and I'm not kidding, eighty-seven stories on my Encanto idea list, twenty-five would fit the Encantober prompts, but there's no way I'm gonna post twenty-five stories next month. ;) So I'll take it easy and tell myself to do at least one, hopefully more.
Anyway, short chapter two excerpt: Pepa's knock on the front door was loud and thundering as if she was intending to unhinge the thing, leaving no doubt that she would be entering that building, one way or the other. And the landlady, a woman maybe half the triplets' age by the name of Moreno, seemed to get the message, because she wasted no time opening the door. Clearly she, too, had still been up. The ghost of a shock flitted across her features for a moment, but she caught herself quickly and gave Pepa, as the nearest visitor, a small, courteous bow. "Señora Madrigal. What a pleasant but unexpected surprise to see you and your family at this late hour, especially in such hard…"
"We need to talk to your son," Pepa cut across her. "Where is he?"
Félix lightly rapped Camilo's head for snickering, and Bruno counted five transformations before the boy regained his composure.
