🎨💔 #ArtIsAWeapon Art installation by @perceptual_art "Identity Crisis - 200 toy guns" http://perceptualart.com I support the students across the country who are participating in today's #NationalSchoolWalkout at 10am ET to protest #gunviolence and demand changes to this country's gun laws. One month ago today, 17 students and faculty were senselessly shot to death at Parkland High School in Florida. I also woke up to the horrific news that four people have been shot to death in Brownsville, Brooklyn (including a 1 year-old), for whom there will be no national protests or outrage. So, as I support today's protests, I mourn the millions of people who have been the victims of gun violence, and acknowledge the grassroots groups, local organizers and activists who have BEEN doing anti-gun, anti-violence work in under-resourced, marginalized communities around the country for decades. Today, let's commit (or recommit) to helping these groups who are working to make our lives safer right in our neighborhoods. Reach out to them, learn about their activities and leadership, ask how we can help, offer to volunteer, make a monetary donation. 🎨💔 #ArtIsAWeapon Art installation by @perceptual_art "Identity Crisis - 200 toy guns" http://perceptualart.com Remembering the 20 little children and 6 staff members who were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT 5 years ago today. I can't imagine the pain and grief their parents, family members and loved ones still feel. Five years later, there have been 268 school shootings and the government has done absolutely nothing to change gun laws or ban assault weapons from civilians like the one used by the murderer at Sandy Hook. It is infuriating and unacceptable that innocent 6 year-old children shot to death in their classroom was not enough to make massive changes to gun laws or develop real solutions to address gun violence in America.
