I thought about the "shopping while hungry" thing because it seemed plausible to me based on my own experience, but then I realized that any time I was in the grocery store and drawn strongly to the cookie aisle, I was probably hungry but I was also tired and emotionalstressed out. At the very least, those are some significant confounding variables, if not the actual cause of any possible observed correlation between hunger and weird food purchases. If you've had a long day, you hate your life, and you haven't eaten dinner yet, who's to say which of those factors is the most significant in your desire to stuff Doritos in your face?
Well, this guy, I guess, but he shouldn't.
"don't go grocery shopping when hungry" doesn't work for me because Not Hungry Me cannot conceive of a universe in which food is needed so she buys like a cup of pomegranate seeds and some fancy cheese and thinks that'll get us through the week.

It's unbelievable the affect my abuser still has on me. I find reporting an incident to the police, dealing with police in general fairly traumatic. Since I reported him on Thursday my appetite has gone (very unlike me), I'm so exhausted I can barely move today. #emotionalstress

I’m grieving hard today. This move has been so hard on me emotionally and we haven’t even moved yet. It’s been so hard I have been getting tension headaches. My home is always open
I want a home mostly just to welcome people into it. There will be bowls of candy for guests, and the cookie jar is full. I’ll always say “I was just about to make a coffee/tea/cocoa, would you like one?” when somebody walks in. There’s lemonade and iced tea made fresh on hot days. Once it hits That Hour and they start saying they really should be going, I’ll remind them that the futon is always open, and I’m making cinnamon rolls tomorrow. There’s champagne and sparkling juice hidden on a high shelf just in case somebody announces their engagement or their pregnancy or their new job while they’re here. There is an extra chair in the living room, at the table, and on the deck, and it’s for you. I want to be able to say “if you’re ever in trouble, come to me.”
