This is a still from the Wolf 359 live show they did in December 2015 and uploaded a few months later in 2016. I thought the still was really funny so I made it my header and have never changed it

I was super into the podcast at the time and it's still one of my favorite fiction podcasts to this day. In fact it's a huge inspiration for a fiction podcast I'm writing that has an AI character.

CHARACTER FILES:MOMBI (THE WICKED WITCH OF THE NORTH)

First Appearance: The Marvelous Land of Oz Portrayed by: Emma Sherr-Ziarko In her youth, Mombi was a talentless Yookoohoo whose lone gift of transformation caught the eye of the Wicked Witch of the South. Mombi was given the title (very briefly) of Wicked Witch of the North and in her tenure, she hid away the baby Ozma and transformed her into a boy. Ozma reclaimed her birthright and stripped Mombi of her power, though she did promise to care for the woman in her old age.

Shortly after Ozma vanished, Mombi was petrified into a marble statue. Whatever secrets she was hiding are now lost to the world.

so y’all know how when a character is popularly shipped with more than one other character in a fandom the people that dislike the other ship usually project and have the two+ other characters hate/fight each other over the shared one in the ship

i am of the firm belief that this absolutely does not happen in minlace/minffel canon. those bitches are best fucking friends, no WONDER they have the same taste in women, DUH. As soon as they find out the other one thinks she’s hot they high five and then every time she does something attractive after that they find the other after their rotation and are like “did you HEAR the way she said that??? are we serious????” they’re like teenage girls gossiping at a sleepover. i love them. they love each other. and they love women 😌

propaganda submission for Minkovsky: everyone voting Hera in this round is doing it strictly because she is an AI (and admittedly cool as hell) but there is absolutely nothing hotter in this podcast than commander minkowsky and we all know it. have you heard her voice?? I'm sorry but I respect one (1) figure of authority and its her. she could shoot me with her harpoon and I'd thank her. she's the most (and quite possibly only) competent person in the Hephaestus station and I want her to step on me. she could stab Hilbert and I'd cheer her on and you'd see cartoon hearts floating above my head. she could stab me and I'd react the same way.

The natural end to my W359 relisten is and always will be the reunion episode they did on Emma Sherr-Ziarko (Minkowski)'s podcast Pairing and it is a joy as always but for those who have not listened to it one of the questions that she asks the entire cast and crew is what they think their character's drink of choice would be and I completely forgot that Michelle Agresti's answer for Maxwell was just straight vodka or a martini but with nothing in it other than gin and that conversation devolves into the fact that Maxwell was canonically a horse girl and that shit had me cracking the fuck up

I do think there's something special about the way that audio drama creators seem to love including cameos of voice actors from other popular audio dramas. Obviously, part of the reason why actors from one show might pop up in another is because the audio drama creator community is relatively small and interconnected, and also because those actors are very talented.

But there's also often such a sense that creators are having fun with these cameos. Like Greater Boston casting audio drama heavyweights Briggon Snow, Zach Valenti, and Felix Trench as famous film actors Matt Daemon, Ben Affleck, and Mark Wahlberg respectively. Or Faux and Stallion having Tom Crowley (who plays a Victorian detective in Victoriocity) pop up as Dr Watson. Or Unseen casting Beth Eyre and Felix Trench as characters who are twins. Or Arden getting Emma Sherr-Ziarko to play an actor impersonating a character played by her former Wolf 359 costar Michelle Agresti (with Michaela Swee also appearing as an actor impersonating the other main Arden lead).

In these cases, it's not just that there's a cameo, but that the cameo is given particular (often comedic) significance to those who are aware of the featured actor's other work. The vast majority of people wouldn't recognise any of these voices. But by doing these very intentional cameos, these creators show confidence that a fair chunk of their audience will know these actors and enjoy the link. There's an awareness that listeners of one audio drama are fairly likely to listen to (or at least be aware of) other fiction podcasts, even when the shows in question aren't of particularly similar genres. Recognising these cameos feels like being in on a secret. It feels like these shows are giving a little nod to listeners to say that we're part of the same club.

i'm sure they're busy, but it is stressing me out a little that i haven't received a reply re: the wolf 359 thank you note; i feel like i'm responsible for relaying that + making sure everyone knows their messages were seen and appreciated. i can say that emma sherr-ziarko has seen it, but otherwise... unclear. i'm sorry about that. :(

Finally watching the recording of the W359 liveshow, and:

I find it so funny that for the liveshow, they needed a time in the chronology when A) as many of the characters were together as possible, B) they all generally liked each other, and C) nothing too life-threatening was going on, and all they could come up with was 5 minutes during episode 26.

Zach Valenti's expressive little hand gestures are everything.

COMMANDER HILBERT.

The looks Minkowski gives Eiffel are exactly how I imagined them. She's so over it.

"I'm taking one of my frequent holidays away from the station," Hera says as she plops herself down a few feet away from the other two.

ZACH VALENTI MOVING BACK AND FORTH ON DIFFERENT SIDES OF EMMA SHERR-ZIARKO TO BE EIFFEL AND HILBERT-

He's running back and forth while they argue. This is great.

(loud noises that a space station probably shouldn't be making)

No one storms in like Isabel Lovelace.

Oh, you guys were NOT kidding about the Minlace shit. Lovelace pushing Eiffel out of the way so she can stand close enough to Minkowski to kiss her... the yuri is real.

Eiffel crossing over to where Hera is standing to talk to her...my heart.

They're both staring Eiffel down from either side as they lecture him.

And now Minkowski is pushing Eiffel out of the way to get closer to Lovelace. Sir, you are third-wheeling some badass lesbians right now, and I hope you know that.

The fact that when Eiffel programs recordings of himself to talk to, they're arguing with him... really says something about his entire mindset.

Minkowski's so dramatic. She should have been onstage.

"Doctor", he says, referring to the blank space where he stands when he delivers his other set of lines.

Cecilia-Lynn Jacobs does an *excellent* job acting out Lovelace's sheer... Lovelace-ness.

Every time Minkowski and Lovelace give Eiffel twin disapproving looks, I gain two years back onto my life.

Minkowski's little giggle when Lovelace tells Eiffel off, and that smile she has going... this is the moment when she fell in love with her, I swear.

Seriously, her smirk is my everything. Emma Sherr-Ziarko deserves all the awards.

MINKOWSKI ACTING OUT THE RECORDINGS--

"SHUT UP, HILBERT." (Valenti sadly retreats to his Eiffel spot)

Lovelace looks *very* much like she's about to kiss Minkowski to shut her up. S4 is when I started shipping them, but their dynamic in S2 is also top-tier,

Minkowski walking off slowly in exasperation...

THE BOOK.

"Well, all right, I do." Renee Minkowski, I would do anything you asked without a moment's hesitation.

Her singing voice is SO musical theater. Seriously, she deserved to play Christine in Phantom of the Opera or something.

New headcanon: Eiffel wasn't joking and actually has a fuckload of DND dice on him at all times.

Aw, Eiffel has so much faith in Minkowski. He trusts her so much.

Minkowski's Lovelace impression scaring the shit out of Eiffel is funny on SO many levels.

Hera looks almost offended by this whole thing.

"Eiffel does bad Hilbert impression" will always be funny no matter how many times it happens.

Why does Eiffel's Minkowski voice sound like a Muppet-

I am not immune to Minkowski and Lovelace finishing each other's sentences. In S2 it mostly only happens when they're yelling at Eiffel, but still.

"The captain and I need a moment to... come up with some creative disciplinary action." Is that what the kids are calling it these days? (If I ever write that Minlace fic, I'm totally using that.)

Cutter is even more terrifying when you can see his face.

Minkowski is SO done. She cannot deal with one more thing today. Neither can Lovelace, honestly.

Minkowski and Cutter interacting will never not be the funniest shit ever to me, because they are on OPPOSITE ends to the "very literal" to "speaks entirely in niceties and metaphors" spectrum. The communication between Eiffel and the aliens was easier.

Minkowski's military face -

Ohhh, I don't like the way Cutter looks at Hera one bit.

The way the entire audience cringes when Cutter says "if I wanted the station to just stay in orbit, the Hephaestus would be run by a real person." Hera IS a real person, you motherfucker.

The bit where Eiffel puts his head down in the corner and then stumbles back out to the girls --

"It's like we were there!" Isabel Sofia Lovelace, never change.

When Cutter laughs, my heartbeat shoots UP.

The girls' looks at the moment can best be described as "God save me from Doug Eiffel", "hopefully Cutter doesn't follow through on that threat to decomission me" and "of course he fucked everything up", respectively.

Minkowski almost looks proud of her moron now. Lovelace still looks over it.

Having listened to the Graphic Audio full-cast audobook for All Systems Red, it was fun but I have some thoughts about the voice acting and direction. So now I’m just daydreaming about “if I had Billionaire Money I would buy the audio rights to TMBD and direct and produce another full cast audio version with voice actors handpicked and paid lavishly by Me.”

Murderbot: Kevin R. Free is the voice of Murderbot to a lot of people. I would think very hard about this but it would be a foundational return to form. However I feel like I want to reach out and find a non-binary VA because it's a niche that's been tragically underrepresented in Murderbot VAs. I joked before about Vico Ortiz playing live-action Murderbot but do they want to try their hand at voice acting?

Mensah: Cecilia Lynn-Jacobs. Voices Captain Lovelace on Wolf 359. Has incredible talent and range and does the Intrepid Galactic Explorer so well.

Pin-Lee: Emily Woo Zeller. An audiobook narrator I've consistently liked.

Ratthi: Stephen Dookie. He plays the part of Polites in Epic: The Musical and he's excellent in a very sweet, upbeat, friendly way.

Gurathin: Sungwon "ProZD" Cho. I'm picturing somewhere in the range of his Miles Edgeworth voice for this.

Arada: Michelle "Vixy" Dockrey. She's a singer not a VA but her voice sounds so nice.

Overse: Tanja Milojevic. Her range is incredible.

Bharadwaj: Rukhmani Desai (Captain Tripathi, The Strange Case of Starship Iris. She has that calm, reasonable, rational, desperately kind character voice she plays well in Starship Iris that I think would go well for Bharadwaj)

Volescu: Zach Valenti. The vibes are right.
