Helena Jane “Nell” Shepherd, born January 19, 1821, was the only child born to Norman (1798-1826) and Abigail (1800-1826) Shepherd in Bottesford, England. A distant cousin to the Baron Bastable, Nell was placed in his custody at the age of 5. Her parents had succumbed to consumption. Cecil Bastable (1790-1844) and his wife, Henrietta (1796-1844) graciously welcomed Nell into their home and raised her as their own. Unfortunately, their son, Horace (born 1812) did not take to Nell with any kindness. In fact, upon the moment that the mourning of his parents ended in 1844, Horace proposed to Nell.
Fleeing Horace Bastable’s incessant and forceful proposals, Nell stumbled into the position of governess. She worked for a handful of rich families before agreeing to meet with Viscount Anthony Bridgerton to discuss a possible place of employment. Nell was officially hired by the Bridgerton family in April of 1846 as the governess to the five youngest children of Mr. Gregory and Lady Lucy Bridgerton’s nine children. Ant, Ben, Colin, Eloise, and Frannie Bridgerton were intense children, who had run off a series of previous governesses. However, they didn’t scare off Nell. In addition, Nell also befriended the eldest daughter, Katharine, who was 18 and nearing her first season.
June of 1846 saw Nell meeting the man who would capture her heart, Dr. Charles “Charlie” Bridgerton. They married in late 1846 and had five children together: Norman, Sophia, Meg, Franklin, and Linus. Their eldest son, Norman Benedict, was born in January of 1848. Their eldest daughter, Sophia Abigail, followed a few months later in June of 1849. Their youngest daughter, Margaret Helena “Meg,” was born in 1851 with their middle son, Franklin Charles, being born three years later in 1854. Their youngest son and child, Linus Edmund, was born in 1858, four years after Franklin and a little over ten years after Norman.
Nell is of average height, about 5’6”. She has an average, albeit slightly lean, build which is mostly due to her struggles with finding consistent employment. Her eyes are hazel, often becoming darker in low light and greener in bright light. In addition, Nell has curly black hair, inherited from her mother, which she keeps at an average length. She also has a small splotchy birthmark on her right shoulder, which is rarely visible to the public’s eye. She keeps a simple and functional yet elegant style, although it’s generally much simpler during her employment as a governess.
Nell is a reserved person. She’s very private, rarely sharing her thoughts with others. Despite this, Nell is very intuitive and thoughtful. She’s thoughtful and considerate and caring. In addition, Nell is compassionate and empathetic which comes to be very helpful in her chosen profession of governess. In addition, Nell is quite intelligent and well read. She’s charming, principled, idealistic, and sensitive. She thinks through quite a bit, sometimes even overthinking her every action. Nell is also a perfectionist and is very organized with hopes of everything going exactly to plan. She’s often found reading, working on embroidery, or playing the piano.

Emma Catherine Rutledge, born January 24, 1824, was the fifth born child to the duke and Duchess of Ashbourne, Lady Catherine (1792-1824) and Lord George (born 1787) Rutledge. She had four older siblings: Susannah (born 1814), Charles (born 1816), Laurence (born 1818), and Giles (born 1820). Her mother died of childbed fever, shortly after Emma was born and as such, Emma has no memories of her mother. Shortly afterwards, her grandmother, Lady Arabella Rutledge, the dowager duchess, moved in with the family to help supervise the children as Emma’s father refused to consider marrying again. He had loved his duchess, and couldn’t stomach marrying another. In 1836, Emma’s sister, Susannah, married Bernard Fitzhugh (born 1809). They had three children: Dudley (born 1837), Maria (born 1839), and George (born 1843). Of her four siblings, Emma was closest to her eldest brother, Charles.
Emma had a pretty good childhood. Everything was fairly simple until she began preparing for her debut into the ton. Her grandmother had high expectations for Emma, which included the fact that Emma was not supposed to wear her spectacles. She felt like a fool without them, especially on the dance floor. In addition, her grandmother had strict ideas about who it was appropriate for Emma to interact with, given that she was the daughter of a duke. Luckily, Emma’s father held the power of final approval and he kept Emma’s opinions in mind.
In 1847, Emma was introduced to Alexander Bridgerton, an architect who had gone to school with her brother, Giles, by the dowager viscountess Bridgerton. Her grandmother fiercely disapproved, but Emma found herself falling for the young Mr. Bridgerton. He was handsome and kind and swoon worthy. After a lot of convincing and promising to her grandmother, Emma eventually married Alexander. They had two children, identical twins named Vincent Charles and Beckett Nicholas, in 1857.
Emma stands at 5’3” and has an average build. She has light auburn hair that’s kept to a fashionable length and often styled in the simplest fashionable style available. She has green eyes, which are often obscured by spectacles. Emma’s eyesight is quite poor, therefore she wears spectacles whenever possible. In addition, Emma’s style trends towards whatever’s most fashionable at the time but she has no qualms about picking simpler styles. She generally wears blues and greens, as she feels like those colors complement her appearance best.
Emma is a private and thoughtful person. She prefers to keep to herself, only suffering through balls and such to please her grandmother as Emma also has some people pleasing tendencies. She’s reluctant to open up to most people. Often, her only confidant was her eldest brother, Charles. In addition, Emma is creative and principled and kind. She’s also quite stubborn and sensitive. She can take criticism to heart. In addition, Emma feels like she’s under a lot of pressure to live up to her “perfect” sister, Susannah who married an earl and never needed spectacles. Emma is also very supportive and organized. She will often struggle with decisions, before ultimately giving into what her heart is telling her to go with.

Róisín Mary O’Connolly, born May 2, 1824, was the only child born to John (1797-1830) and Mary (1800-1830) O’Connolly on their small farm in County Donegal, Ireland. From an Irish Gaelic speaking family, Róisín did not learn English until the age of three, when her parents were forced to relocate from their farm to the small village. At the age of 6, Róisín was orphaned after her parents fell ill and moved to Galway, where her father’s elder brother, Michael (1794-1847), and his wife, Ellen (1798-1846) lived. This arrangement lasted until the 1840s. In 1845, the potato crop failed and poor Irish farmers fell into a deep famine. Róisín’s Aunt Ellen fell ill first and with little money, there was nothing that either Róisín or Michael could do. Then, Michael fell ill and passed away as well, leaving Róisín to weather the year known as “Black ‘47” alone.
In late 1847, Róisín received correspondence from a distant cousin. Margaret Bolton, the countess of Fotherby, had written to Róisín with an offer to sponsor her for a season amongst the ton. Reluctantly, Róisín accepted and shortly after, traveled to London. Raised Catholic and devoted to her identity as an Irish Catholic, she refused to attend the same Anglican masses that Margaret and her husband, Peter, earl of Fotherby did. Instead, she found a Catholic church to attend and did so religiously. In addition, she continued to use her first language of Irish Gaelic.
It was early in the season of 1848 when Róisín met the quiet William Bridgerton. With chestnut hair and green eyes, William immediately captivated Róisín. But after their first meeting, she had never believed that she’d actually see him again. She did, though, and as they came into a deep acquaintance, love blossomed. A much more forceful personality than William, Róisín also found herself struggling to stay silent when she heard the pompous and spoiled lords discussing the famine in Ireland. In fact, she was rarely able to stay silent. Her people were suffering and they deserved help. Róisín herself had donated the majority of her pocket money to those working to alleviate the effects of the famine. Altogether, it was an interesting season that had a stranger conclusion. Róisín married William that fall of 1848. Together they had four children: Maeve, Kathleen, Ivy, and Oscar. A daughter named Maeve Sophie was born in 1850 followed by another daughter, Kathleen Mary, in 1852. Two years later in 1854, their third and final daughter, Ivy Róisín, was born. Finally, their only son, Oscar William, was born in 1857.
Róisín stands at 5’5” and holds a lean build, that during the famine years in Ireland was an unhealthy lean. She has black hair that’s as short as fashionably allowed for women. Her eyes are a dark green, a sharp contrast to the light green of William and his sister, Violet. In addition, Róisín has freckles all over her face. The sun brings them out more, but she’s always had a smattering of freckles dotting her face. Róisín prefers a simple style with a fondness for blues and greens, similar to her sister-in-law, Lady Emma.
At first glance, Róisín appears to be very outspoken, and in some ways, she is. However, she also has a more reserved nature. It’s only the things that she’s passionate about that can get her to be outspoken. She can also be argumentative, especially when it comes to her beliefs. She holds steadfast to her beliefs, and can be reluctant to change those. In addition, she is very stubborn and intelligent. Róisín has good practical skills and she’s quite hardworking. She also can be compassionate, although the extent of her compassion can depend on several different factors. She can take things personally and tends to keep her innermost thoughts private.

Jonathan Frederick “Jack” Fullerton, born April 6, 1821, was the fourth child born to Lady Josephine (1792-1835) and Tom (1791-1831) Fullerton in London England. He had three older siblings, Henry “Harry” (1812-1831), Anne (born 1815), and Isabel (born 1818). Jack was ten years old when his father and older brother passed away in a carriage accident, and four years later, his mother passed away from an illness. For the next few years, Jack was raised by his unmarried sisters and insisted on helping the family make money. Anne married an upcoming merchant by the name of James Clarke in 1838 and they had three daughters: Martha (born 1840), Frances (born 1842) and Thomasina (born 1845). His sister, Isabel, married a shopkeeper by the name of Benjamin Moller in 1842 and they had two children: Joseph (born 1845) and Elizabeth (born 1847).
Between the ages of 14 and 23, Jack held many different jobs. At the age of 23, he found a position as an apprentice in a printshop. He was content to work there until December of 1847 when Lady Christina Worthington, the dowager marchioness of Insley and Jack’s aunt — appeared. She had spent the previous year searching for Lady Josephine and her children, as an old loophole stated that the Insley marquessate could pass down to the son of the most recent female relative as long as she held the blood of the marquessate in her. Her husband, Martin (1790-1844) was Lady Josephine’s elder brother and the second son. Their eldest brother, Frederick (1784-1838), had died unmarried with no heir. Thus, Lady Christina had deduced that Jack was the marquessate’s heir… much to his own confusion. But there was no turning down the dowager and Jack found himself entering a world that was completely foreign to him, a world that was scandalized by his existence. After all, his mother had been the daughter of a marquess and his father had been her brother’s valet… and to make matters even more surprising (and scandalizing), his mother had jilted an earl to marry his father, a lowly valet.
As his first season begins in 1848, Jack feels more and more adrift. But a chance meeting with a Miss Violet Bridgerton changes everything. She’s made it her mission to help him acclimate to the ton. She’s kind and pretty and dear lord does Jack want to know her better. And while there’s a lot of unexpected things that occur during Jack’s first (and only) season, by the end of the season, he’s found his marchioness in Violet. Together, they have four children: Thomas, Levi, Josie, and Leo. Eldest son Thomas Benedict was born in November of 1850, with their second child, Levi Jonathan, being born about two years later in July 1852. Their only daughter, Josephine Sophia “Josie,” followed in January of 1855, with their youngest, Leopold Harry “Leo,” being born in September of 1856.
Jack stands at 6’3” with a lean and athletic build. His hair is dark blonde, which is so dark that it’s almost brown. His eyes are a dull blue, almost unremarkable. Jack also has freckles across his nose and cheeks, which come out more in the sun. In addition, he has a small scar by the left corner of his lip. He tends to dress very understated and very simple. Jack is not a fan dressing ostentatiously or in bright colors. He prefers to stay under the radar, with navies, browns, blacks, and the occasional green.
Jack is a reserved, generally level-headed man. He’s practical, responsible, dutiful, and an organized planner, all traits that one would think would help Jack in his transition from print shop apprentice to marquess. However, Jack’s also very awkward in situations where he’s uncomfortable and unfortunately, he’s very uncomfortable with the ton. He can be quite direct in these situations as well, which doesn’t help him with his fellow aristocrats. He’s also quite intelligent and logical. He prefers when things can be thought through and Jack’s not known for making impulsive decisions. In addition, he’s also fairly private and prefers to keep his cards close to his chest. To deal with his stress and anxiety about assuming the responsibility of the Insley title, Jack takes up running, boxing, and fencing. He also spends quite a bit of time with his nieces and nephew.

What's Prince Of Dreams about?
IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED. SO
In the prior book, Midnight Angel, we meet Prince Nikolas Angelovsky who thinks the heroine Tasia killed his brother and he kidnaps her and brings her back to Russia but then it turns out she didn't and he kills the real murderer and is tortured by Russian authories for months and then exiled to England. He meets his future heroine Emma who is (I think) 13 or 14 at the time and gifts her an injured tiger cub knowing she likes taking care of animals and also basically marks her as his future wife and at that moment Tasia has a vision(?!?!) that confirms it so.... there we are.
Fast forward to Prince of Dreams, Emma is grown up and is entertaining a suitor and they're almost engaged when Nikki thwarts it thinking he's too lame for her or whatever and then Emma does the most early 20s girl thing I can think of which is get drunk on lemon vodka and complain about her ex to Nikki after which he sleeps with her (....a Kleypas classic....?) and they marry except basically no one is happy about it. Also, Nikolas does get knocked out and has a dream about being his own ancestor a few hundred years back and that takes up a solid quarter of the book so, there's where the title comes from. It's one of the earlier iterations of a few situations Kleypas repeats later— a dubcon drunk compromise also happened in It Happened One Autumn, and the hero secretly breaks two lovers up so he can have the heroine for his own like Harry Rutledge did in Tempt Me at Twilight. Oh, and a suuuuuper animal loving heroine like Beatrix in Love in the Afternoon except I'm pretty sure Emma is actually a part of ye olde PETA. I am a fan even though I think the dream part was a bit... much. But certainly a novelty lol.

Called “The Iceman” for the way he stays calm and collected under almost any circumstances, Scott Dixon is a methodical driver, knowm to be able to extract the most fuel mileage from his car. A Six-time series Champion, he has earned 52 wins, 130 podiums and 32 poles in his long career. One of the older drivers in the field, he shows no signs of slowing down. He is as competitive as ever, an elder statesman bestowing his wisdom on his teammates.
Off track, he is said to be one of the nicest guys around, family focused but still able to find time for fun with his friends. But early in his career he wasn’t quite as straight-laced as he appears now, known for committing pranks and getting into mischief with Dario Franchitti and Tony Kanaan. Both remain close friends all these years later.
I’ve avoided mentioning wives and girlfriends for the most part in these Lore posts, but one cannot discuss Scott without mentioning his wife, Emma. Outspoken and sometimes brash, Emma has no problem calling out the series and other drivers when she sees what she perceives as an injustice being done to her husband. But she is also very friendly, taking new drivers’ wives and girlfriends under her wing. Her Instagram (especially her comments on other drivers’ posts) can be very entertaining at times.
Fanfic Lore
Historically paired with Dario Franchitti. In groups with Dario Franchitti, Tony Kanaan, and Marco Andretti
His wife, Emma, is his biggest shipper (she seems to pair him with Dario Franchitti and Tony Kanaan most often) and is frequently horny right on social media about him. Because of this, she is one of the rare WAGS that show up in fanfic occasionally.

Time Jump This Week!
Her Majesty’s official offices at Woodstock Palace released a new portrait of the Royal Family of Wessex in honor of both of The Queen’s sons becoming teenagers. The nicknamed “red portrait” pictures the senior members.
Pictured Above: (front row from left to right) HRH The Prince George of Wessex ; HM Queen Anne II of Wessex ; HRH The Duke of Dorset ; (back row from left to right) HRH The Duke of Uxbridge ; HRH Princess Alexandra of Uxbridge ; HRH The Earl of Gloucester ; HH Prince Arthur, The Earl of Falmouth ; HH Princess Alexandra, The Countess of Hyannis ; The Earl of Hyannis
Brief Updates:
1) The Prince Albert of Wessex died recently. The Prince leaves behind four children, (pictured left to right) Bernard FitzAlbert ; Prince Albert, The Duke of Uxbridge; Princess Alexandra of Uxbridge ; and Augusta “Emma” FitzAlbert. Augusta was born after Albert’s second marriage to Rosalie Rutledge and after the passing of the Fourth Act of Succession, thus she and her older brother, Bernard, are barred from inheriting the throne, unlike their royal half-siblings from their father’s first marriage.
2) The Duke of Worcester also passed away at his country estate, Corsham Palace surrounded by his family. The 7th Dukes titles were inherited by his only living son Edward St. Andrews (pictured above in front of Corsham Palace). Edward, now the 8th Duke of Worcester, is keen on becoming a member of the Queen’s Privy Council.
3) The Prince William and The Prince George have aged up into teenagers. The Duke of Uxbridge and his sister, Princess Alexandra are now young adults and both plan on taking an active role as working members of the Royal Family.

Science communication competition brings research into the real world

Science communication competition brings research into the real world
Laurence Willemet remembers countless family dinners where curious faces turned to her with shades of the same question: “What is it, exactly, that you do with robots?”
It’s a familiar scenario for MIT students exploring topics outside of their family’s scope of knowledge — distilling complex concepts without slides or jargon, plumbing the depths with nothing but lay terms. “It was during these moments,” Willemet says, “that I realized the importance of clear communication and the power of storytelling.”
Participating in the MIT Research Slam, then, felt like one of her family dinners.
The finalists in the 2024 MIT Research Slam competition met head-to-head on Wednesday, April 17 at a live, in-person showcase event. Four PhD candidates and four postdoc finalists demonstrated their topic mastery and storytelling skills by conveying complex ideas in only 180 seconds to an educated audience unfamiliar with the field or project at hand.
The Research Slam follows the format of the 3-Minute Thesis competition, which takes place annually at over 200 universities around the world. Both an exciting competition and a rigorous professional development training opportunity, the event serves an opportunity to learn for everyone involved.
One of this year’s competitors, Bhavish Dinakar, explains it this way: “Participating in the Research Slam was a fantastic opportunity to bring my research from the lab into the real world. In addition to being a helpful exercise in public speaking and communication, the three-minute time limit forces us to learn the art of distilling years of detailed experiments into a digestible story that non-experts can understand.”
Leading up to the event, participants joined training workshops on pitch content and delivery, and had the opportunity to work one-on-one with educators from the Writing and Communication Center, English Language Studies, Career Advising and Professional Development, and the Engineering Communication Labs, all of which co-sponsored and co-produced the event. This interdepartmental team offered support for the full arc of the competition, from early story development to one-on-one practice sessions.
The showcase was jovially emceed by Eric Grunwald, director of English language learning. He shared his thoughts on the night: “I was thrilled with the enthusiasm and skill shown by all the presenters in sharing their work in this context. I was also delighted by the crowd’s enthusiasm and their many insightful questions. All in all, another very successful slam.”
A panel of accomplished judges with distinct perspectives on research communication gave feedback after each of the talks: Deborah Blum, director of the Knight Science Journalism Program at MIT; Denzil Streete, senior associate dean and director of graduate education; and Emma Yee, scientific editor at the journal Cell.
Deborah Blum aptly summed up her experience: “It was a pleasure as a science journalist to be a judge and to listen to this smart group of MIT grad students and postdocs explain their research with such style, humor, and intelligence. It was a reminder of the importance the university places on the value of scientists who communicate. And this matters. We need more scientists who can explain their work clearly, explain science to the public, and help us build a science-literate world.”
After all the talks, the judges provided constructive and substantive feedback for the contestants. It was a close competition, but in the end, Bhavish Dinakar was the judges’ choice for first place, and the audience agreed, awarding him the Audience Choice award. Omar Rutledge’s strong performance earned him the runner-up position. Among the postdoc competitors, Laurence Willemet won first place and Audience Choice, with Most Kaniz Moriam earning the runner-up award.
Postdoc Kaniz Mariam noted that she felt privileged to participate in the showcase. “This experience has enhanced my ability to communicate research effectively and boosted my confidence in sharing my work with a broader audience. I am eager to apply the lessons learned from this enriching experience to future endeavors and continue contributing to MIT’s dynamic research community. The MIT Research Slam Showcase wasn’t just about winning; it was about the thrill of sharing knowledge and inspiring others. Special thanks to Chris Featherman and Elena Kallestinova from the MIT Communication Lab for their guidance in practical communication skills. ”
Double winner Laurence Willemet related the competition to experiences in her daily life. Her interest in the Research Slam was rooted in countless family dinners filled with curiosity. “‘What is it exactly that you do with robots?’ they would ask, prompting me to unravel the complexities of my research in layman’s terms. Each time, I found myself grappling with the task of distilling intricate concepts into digestible nuggets of information, relying solely on words to convey the depth of my work. It was during these moments, stripped of slides and scientific jargon, that I realized the importance of clear communication and the power of storytelling. And so, when the opportunity arose to participate in the Research Slam, it felt akin to one of those family dinners for me.”
The first place finishers received a $600 cash prize, while the runners-up and audience choice winners each received $300.
Last year’s winner in the PhD category, Neha Bokil, candidate in biology working on her dissertation in the lab of David Page, is set to represent MIT at the Three Minute Thesis Northeast Regional Competition later this month, which is organized by the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools.
A full list of slam finalists and the titles of their talks is below.
PhD Contestants:
Pradeep Natarajan, Chemical Engineering (ChemE), “What can coffee-brewing teach us about brain disease?”
Omar Rutledge, Brain and Cognitive Sciences, “Investigating the effects of cannabidiol (CBD) on social anxiety disorder”
Bhavish Dinakar, ChemE, “A boost from batteries: making chemical reactions faster”

Interview with Catherine Bybee
The Whole Time by Catherine Bybee is a fun read. Per usual, readers will love her stories that have engrossing characters, with touching and heartwarming plots.
The story is about two independent people, Selena Barone, and Ryan Rutledge. Since they have been in other books of the series, readers got to know them. Yet, this installment shows both willing to stand up to their parents to gain their independence. Selena decides to move into an apartment owned by the D’Angelo family and work as their restaurant’s manager. Ryan has decided to veer from the family wine business and does commercial realty.
After they meet at Gio and Emma’s wedding, sparks begin to fly. Both are a bit on the wild side and decide to become friends with benefits. But when cupid strikes, they seem to become involved in a relationship neither would have predicted. The problem is Selena is keeping secrets from Ryan, her family, and her “wanna be” family, the D’Angelo’s.
The story has humor, relatable real-people, and a hero/heroine who balance each other beautifully. A bonus is that there is plenty of pages with the rest of the D’Angelo’s which makes the story even more enjoyable.
Elise Cooper: How did you get the idea for the story?
Catherine Bybee: I wanted to write a different setting with the surrounding areas, outside of San Diego. This is Selena’s book and when I first wrote about her everyone thought she and Gio were going to have the relationship. It felt like she deserved her own book. In this climate, with a lot of young women growing up, she represents what others are dealing with, life decisions that are not the norm. I wanted to capture the fact that she had to break away from her controlling family.
EC: How would you describe Selena?
CB: Fiercely independent. She has a real side that everyone can identify with. My two best friends just read the book and they both said Selena is me because although I want to be independent there is this other side of me. She is stubborn, confident, flirty, and self-assured. She is very comfortable in her own skin. She finds out that she is responsible after she takes on the job of managing the D’Angelo’s’ restaurant. She is growing up in this book.
EC: How would you describe Ryan?
CB: He will stand up to his powerful father. He does love his mother and sister and tolerates his father. He is a lot like Selena. He is very self-assured. He is not cocky but confident. Not humble. He is clever. He knows when to show his cards and when to hold them.
EC: What about the relationship between Selena and Ryan?
CB: I think both have a lot more in common than most of my other heroes and heroines. In the beginning they both are not looking for forever. Ryan wants someone who understands him. He knows how to push Selena’s buttons. She wanted to find someone she could trust enough to open to. She is taken back when she does find it with Ryan. She has no doubts about her sexuality and how to use it to get what she wants. She gets her needs met. She is the male version of someone who plays the field, doing what they want with whoever they want. They challenge each other.
EC: What about pole dancing?
CB: I did one time. I got it as a birthday present. It is super hard. The workout alone is worth it. She sells videos on the Internet. Well behaved women rarely make history. My point is that she was not doing it naked. She tried to balance what she wanted to do, to be successful, but not to disappoint those she cares about in her life.
EC: What is the role of the sets of parents?
CB: Mari D’Angelo is the mother Selena wants. Mari is like the second mom and does treat Selena like a daughter. Mari knows when to accept things and hold back the reins. I had a second mom. Selena goes to her to ask for advice. Selena’s parents are not in tuned with what is going on. They will not bend. Selena’s real parents are more old- fashioned. She feels she must toe the line with her parents. Yet Ryan, does not feel he must toe the line at all.
EC: Next book?
CB: Mari lost her husband at an early age. She is a single parent. I am setting readers up for a Mari book about an over fifty-five-year-old. My next, next book is titled All Our Tomorrows. It will be a part of a series. It has an unexpected death of a monarch who has a lot of money. He has been absentee with his children. After he died the children were thrust into a world of high stakes business and money. They do not necessarily have the stakes to do the job and at the same time are searching for a brother they just found out about. It will come out next spring.
THANK YOU!!

REVIEW
Beginning of Forever by Catherine Bybee
The D’Angelos #3
Wonderful ~ Thoroughly enjoyed this story ~ Hated to say goodbye when it ended!
What I liked:
* Emma Ruttledge: bright, focused, motivated, underrated, pushed aside in the family business by her father, has big decisions to make, meets an intriguing man on her trip to Tuscany, has a difficult time with her father, has more than one big issue to contend with before the end of the book
* Giovani “Gio” D’Angelo: youngest sibling, sommelier, has dreams of owning his own winery, wants to settle down and raise a family – if/when he finds the right woman, family oriented, helpful, wise, caring, kind, is perfect with and for Emma
* Getting to see the characters from previous books in the series and find out how they are doing
* The time in Tuscany and the growth of the relationship between Emma and Gio
* That I can see Gio and Emma happy together and feel that both are better off together than they are alone
* The mothers, Mari & Beth, and how much they care for their families
* The surprises, twists, turns, confrontations, and way this all came together
* That it drew me in, made me care, and I felt I was a part of the story
* Learning more about the medical situation that was faced
* Wondering what will happen to some of the characters that are still single at the end of the story: Nicole, Ryan, Salena, and Chris
* All of it really except…
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
BLURB
From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Catherine Bybee comes the story of two wine enthusiasts who ride the ups and downs of love in the vineyards of Tuscany. Tasting wine is not enough: sommelier Giovanni D’Angelo wants to create it. To put his family first, he’s always deferred his dreams—a vineyard to run, a woman to marry. But a three-week vineyard tour in Italy could set him back on track. For Emma Rutledge, wine is in her blood. Intent to run the family wine business one day, she finds that the men in her family are only intent to push her out of it. But that’s fine—she’s got a plan. When Gio and Emma meet on a wine tour in Tuscany, their shared aspirations fuel an undeniable chemistry. Returning home to California, they work toward setting up Emma’s vineyard and a label of their own. But when Emma receives a life-altering diagnosis, she worries it’s all been for nothing. As Emma works to cement her family legacy while dealing with this unexpected challenge, Gio tries to convince her that their future isn’t just wine. It’s each other.

19 for Emma?
19.) What is your general favourite thing about the character? What is your least favourite?
One of my favorite things about Emma is that she never really gives up. She keeps going with the things that matters to her. It takes a lot of courage for her to continue seeing Alexander Bridgerton when her grandmother vehemently disapproved of the match.
One of my maybe least favorite things about Emma is that she’s kind of a pushover. She isn’t always able to stand up for herself, especially to her grandmother. Emma struggled to rebel against her grandmother’s control and vision for the future, especially when it came to finding a husband.
Character asks!
#emma rutledge#bridgerton next gen oc#I’m not even sure that these are really favorites and least favorites#but they’re certainly compelling traits of emma’s when put next to each other#and for the record she does marry alexander!#with her grandmother’s approval thanks to the dowager viscountess bridgerton

emma vanity.
( demi woman | she/they | anya taylor-joy ) —— isn’t that EMMA VANITY? yeah that is them, outside the leaky cauldron! they used to be in SLYTHERIN but apparently they now work as a SEEKER for the KENMARE KESTRELS. they always seemed to remind me of kaleidoscopic hair; falling asleep under the quidditch stands, your bra dangling from the goals; raspberries dusted with sugar; mascara streaked wild eyes and an unstable smile; a girl as wild as thunder and lightning, which seems about right. anyway i’ve heard they’re still a bit FICKLE, SIMPLE, and AFFABLE, they’re TWENTY-TWO now but some things never change! i wonder how being a HALFBLOOD (METAMORPHMAGUS) is affecting them after school, especially now they’re NEUTRAL (DEATH EATER INFORMANT)? when was it they graduated again, 1971 (LEFT OUT OF FIFTH YEAR)? has it really been that long…
CHARACTER INSPOS: effy stonem (skins), cassie howard (euphoria), jules vaughn (euphoria), jamie tartt (ted lasso), carmen rutledge (the big sleep), max wolfe (gossip girl 2021), harry bingham (the society), lydia bennet (pride and prejudice)
