In 2019 I had the incredible opportunity to work (again) with artist/novelist Paul Madonna. (@paulmadonnastudio) Paul was writing the sequel to his successful mystery series about protagonist Emit Hopper. One of the new characters Emit encounters in Paul's book "Come to Light" is a young person using found objects to create sculptural pieces. Paul asked me to slip into the character's "shoes" and create those pieces so that he could then draw them to be illustrated in the pages of the story (Exquisitely I might add!! Slide left to see Paul's drawing of this piece) This wasn't an easy task for me but it was rewarding to say the least. It took a few efforts before I got into the right "zone" and headspace of this character and was able to produce pieces that Paul could work with. In the end, the project came together beautifully. The only exception was Covid. That first pandemic year of 2020 got in the way of the two of us having the duo exhibition and book signing experience we had planned for. But nonetheless, not only was the book well received but the artworks we created found their audience too.
