It's that time of year again! #artvsartist . I picked a few of my fave sculpts and paintings I made recently, and muh face in the middle. . 3 things you might not know about me: . 1. I love changing the color of my hair and have been everything from platinum blonde, to black, to currently Ariel red. . 2. I LOVE buying the new special flavors of oreos, even though I only usually eat one or 2. I make my kids play me at card or board games before they get to try one. Heh heh. . 3. I have zero patience for people who neglect their pets. Either from lack of proper veterinary care or neglect of affection. If you made the decision to buy this animal you better be willing to give it the care a family member deserves. P. S. I feel the same way about other parents of actual human children. 😂 . Monday was Wayne’s labs about his new kidney, Tuesday was a visit to his doctor about problems since the transplant, Thursday will be a phlebotomy so today I will run to the market with a short list. For it to be only Wednesday it sure seems like a long week. Maybe it’s just me. Idk. I need to work on the painting I began the other day, finish up the hooked rug/mat/art and work on the latchhook…

Reverie refers to a state of ruminative meditation or a lucid daydream. It can also be a visionary or impractical idea. Sometimes the term is associated with Music as a composition that has a pensive peacefulness. Earlier this year I was forced to take nearly 3 months off from art making due to an injury. I am back at it now but it's taken some effort to shake off the creative cobwebs and get the rusty wheels of my imagination turning again. One of the greatest rewards of being an artist is the ability to tap into the mythical "zone" where you can completely disengage from all awareness of anything outside of the act of creating. It's a magical place of consciousness but I've learned recently that pain can prohibit easy access to it. I did make some legitimate progress this past weekend in my studio though while working on 9 pieces at once for my upcoming solo show in Sacramento this June. Stay tuned!!!! As a full time artist and part time arts administrator, I often use the idiom "keeping all my balls in the air" as a response to the questions "how are you?" This is a reference to a circus juggler that may specialize in balancing and feats of dexterity by tossing and catching items such as balls, plates, and knives keeping them methodically rotating from hand to air to hand in a mesmerizing performance. Being a professional artist takes a lot more than just creating art. In fact art is only a small sliver of the equation...or rather...just one of the many balls to keep in suspended rotation. To get an idea of what the other "balls" or slices of the pie entail, swipe left for a diagram reference. Then add the importance of fostering and maintaining healthy, loving relationships into this gravity defying feat and it can make the juggle an even bigger challenge. Not an impossible one but it can take some practice, effort and willingness to try again. The ball in this piece is made of a clear rubbery plastic and magnified behind it are the distorted words "My Love" that were cut from a line in a book of love poems by Pablo Neruda. On Tuesday of last week I sent out my monthly newsletter to invite everyone on my mailing list to come to the “Intimacy Illuminated” show opening reception and/or view the new assemblage I created especially for it using a unique Xray and light box. Within an hour of sending out the email a very savvy person that received it contacted the gallery and requested to purchase the piece prior to it even being hung on the wall. Hesitation did not stand in their way and they were aptly rewarded by being able to claim it for their own. Several other people since then expressed that they wish it had been them. The moral of this story is that when a work of art by anyone you resonate with speaks to you, heed the call! Go for it. Bring it to home to live with you and tell you things you didn't know you needed to hear. The only art lovers that have regrets are those that let their loves at first sight get-away.
