The next morning Abigail woke up to the sunlight streaming in from the motel window. Sitting up she glances at the clock. 9:30am. Spencer looks down at his watch. 9:30am. He looks back up to follow JJ to the break room. She pours each of them a cup of coffee before handing him one of the mugs. Abigail pulls the mug away from her lips as she goes to take a seat down at one of the corner tables in the breakfast room of the motel. She pulls out the scroll from her jacket and unravels it. Only enough to where she can read what was revealed to her last night.
Washington D.C.
Pulling out her phone she found directions to a coffee shop in DC. She hoped once she got there she would get another hint as to where Spencer was and who he really was. She needed to know not only who her soulmate was but why her mother warned her of danger. Rolling the scroll back up she got up from the table and headed back to her motel room. Packing up her bad she checked out of her room and started her next two hour drive to the capital. Her car door closed just as Spencer opened Emily’s office door.
“What’s up Spence?” She asked looking up from the file that lay open in front of her.
“I have a question..” He says taking a seat in the chair opposite her.
“Shoot..”
“I was wondering if you ever wanted to find your soulmate? Cause you know.. Once a woman hits the age of thirty-five she’s sent out to find her soulmate.” Spencer carefully speaks.
“Why do you ask? Are you nervous the woman who is your soulmate might not find you or want to find you?” Spencer nodded his head. “Oh, Spence..” Emily says giving him a smile. “She’s out there. Don’t worry.. And as for me... I did find my soulmate but it just wasn’t the right time..”
“Who is he?”
“I can’t tell you that..” Emily said shaking her head. “All I can say and want to say is that he was good man. A righteous man. One who deserved a better life than what he was given. And he has a son.. I don’t want kids.. So it wasn’t right.. But yours? She’s out there. And I know she’s looking for you. You wouldn’t want to look for their soulmate who happens to be you? Any girl would be lucky to have you as their soulmate.”
“I wish Maeve was my soulmate.”
“Maeve was good woman.. Just not the one meant for you.. Don’t stress yourself out about this, okay? Who knows.. She might even be on her way here.”
Little did Emily know that she really was. Abigail was on her way to DC as they spoke to each other. Her music blaring in her car. She jammed to Michael Jackson songs. She tapped her thumbs on the steering wheel as she bopped her head to the beat of the song.
“Take the next exit to towards Washington D.C.” Her navigation spoke from her phone’s speaker. Putting on her blinker she merged into the far left lane taking the exit the DC. “Your destination is on the right in 500 feet.” Finding a parking spot she shut off her car and grabbed her purse and went into the coffee shop after the paying the parking meter. Ordering her coffee she picked the booth in the furthest corner before pulling the scroll out of her purse and unraveling it once again. Underneath the last hint appeared her next hint. She was getting closer. This time however it gave her an address. Most times these scrolls don’t give her specific hints so soon. This was very peculiar to her.
Capitol Plaza Apartments
Finding directions once more on her phone she left a twenty on the table and went back out to her car. Pulling up to the apartment complex she got out of her car and headed for the building’s entrance. Reaching the elevator she stepped in and pressed the second floor button. The doors opened on the second floor and she stepped and went in search of Spencer’s apartment. She knocked on the door and waited a few minutes. No answer.
“Oh! Hi!” She turned around to see a brunette woman walking up the steps carrying some groceries. “Are you looking for Spencer Reid?” She asked.
“Yes, is he home?” Abigail asks the woman as she walks up to Spencer’s apartment door.
“Unfortunately no.” She said unlocking the door. “He’s at work until this evening. Six, I believe. Are you a friend of his?” She said pushing the door open with her hip.
“Kind of.. Do you know where he works?”
“The BAU in Quantico.”
“FBI?”
“Of course! I wish you luck getting in there though. It has tight security. Although I can let him know that you stopped by. What’s your name?”
“Oh uh.. Abigail Sadler.”
“Okay, Abigail.” The woman said giving her a small smile. “I’ll let Spencer know that you stopped by. It was nice meeting you.”
“You too.” Abigail said giving the woman a small smile before heading back to the elevator. Leaning against the wall of the elevator she looked down at the scroll in her hands. “So do I come back here or what do I do?” She said just as the doors opened. Sighing she stepped out of the elevator and headed for the entrance of the building.
“What do you mean she said she’s kind of my friend? I think I would remember an Abigail Sadler.” Spencer said as he spoke to his mother’s caretaker over the phone at his desk. “Did she say why she was there?”
“No, Spencer. She only asked if you were home or where she could find you. She did have something in her hands. it was rolled up and tied with a purple ribbon. Like a scroll or something.”
“A scroll?”
“Yes.”
“So she knows where I work?”
“She didn’t seem too interested on wanting to find you there. She only wanted me to let you know that she had stopped by.”
“Okay.. I will have Garcia look into her. See who she is. Until then, don’t let anyone into the apartment. If she comes around again call the police.”
“Oh but Spencer, she didn’t look threatening at all. She was very nice and well put together. Very beautiful might I add. She had no guns or knives on her. Just the scroll in her hand and her phone in the other. Her keys dangling from her belt loop. That was all.”
“Well still.. Just be careful.”
“Of course, Spencer.”
Spencer hung up and got up from his desk to go to Penelope’s office. “Garcia, I need a favor.”
“Anything for my lovely boy wonder.” Penelope said as she readied her fingers on her keyboard.
“I need you to look up an Abigail Sadler.”
“What for?”
“She stopped by my apartment looking for me. Said she was an old friend but I don’t ever remember knowing an Abigail in my life.”
“I will be on it now. Give me a few seconds and I can have all her information sent to your email.”
“Thank you Garcia. I can always count on you.”
“We brainiacs gotta stick together.” Spencer gave Penelope a smile before leaving her office and heading back to his desk.
Spencer skimmed through the files that Penelope had emailed to him. He leaned on his desk, his chin resting in his hand.
Abigail Sadler.
DOB: December 24, 1982
Hometown: Bowling Green, Virginia
He looked at photo. Not once did anything come to mind of him ever meeting her. So why was she really looking for him? He skimmed more through the files before coming to the latest transactions made on her credit card. $40 in gas, she paid for a motel for one night, and recently made a transaction today just an hour ago in DC as coffee shop. Something popped up on the transactions. Another was made. She had purchased a room at the Capital Plaza Hotel. He closed out the files shutting down his computer before grabbing his keys and things from under his desk and leaving the office.
Parking his car he made his way inside the hotel and towards the elevators. Arriving on her floor he walked down the hallway until he found her room. Knocking on the door he waited for her to answer. The door unlocked before slowly opening revealing Abigail. “You’re definitely not room service.” She said looking him up and down.
“And you’re definitely not an old friend of mine.” He said raising an eyebrow at her.
Her jaw slightly dropped open. “Spencer?” She said.
“That’s me. Now why are you looking for me?”
“I can explain.”
“Yeah I sure hope you can.” He said walking into her hotel room.
“Yeah sure you can come in.” Abigail said as she closed the hotel room.
“For a small town girl you definitely live highly..”
“I’ve saved up quite a bit of money.. Babysitting, waitressing, fast food, any job I could get my hands on to make money I took.” Abigail said as she walked over to the bed in the room. “I’m sorry I worried you or that woman at your apartment.. I wasn’t intending to do that..”
“So tell me, Abigail. What do you want me? Money?”
“Money? No!” Abigail said shaking her head. “Gosh.. This is going to sound weird and you might not believe me..”
“I’m listening.” Spencer said still standing in front of her.
“I’m your soulmate..”
“Yeah.. Right..”
“Spencer, I’m not lying. I’m being serious.”
“Prove it.”
“Gladly.” She said getting off the bag and walking over to her bag in the corner. “My father kept this locked up in the safe until I turned thirty-two. I wasn’t supposed to get it until i became of age, which is thirty-five.” She said pulling the scroll out of her bag and walking over to Spencer. “But he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and he wanted to be there when I received the scroll so he gave it to me when I turned thirty-two. it didn’t reveal anything until I was thirty-four. It only told me your name.” She handed the scroll to him. The closer I would get to you the more hint it would give me to find you. It gave me the city once I got closer, than it gave me your address which is rare for it to do..”
“There’s no way that you’re my soulmate.” Spencer said shaking his head and rolling the scroll back up and handing it back to Abigail.
“Spencer, you have to believe me..”
“Well I don’t!” He shouts taking her by surprise. “I’m sorry, but you made a mistake.”
“But Spencer-”
“I want you gone. Don’t come by my apartment again or I will have you arrested.”
“Spencer, please!” Abigail says grabbing his hand. As quickly as she grabbed his hand he pulled it away pushing her away. She fell to the floor knocking her head against the dining table. She laid there on the floor holding her head as it throbbed. Spencer hesitated to help her up but instead rushed out of the room in a hurry and leaving the hotel.
“So how did it go with Abigail?” JJ said meeting Spencer outside of the elevator.
“Let me guess. Garcia told you.”
“We were all wondering why you rushed out of the office and she spilled.”
Spencer rolled his eyes and pushed open the glass doors to the bullpen. “She claims to be my soulmate.” He said sitting down at his desk.
“Did she show you a scroll?”
“Yes..”
“Than she has to be yours?”
“But I just don’t believe her, JJ.”
“It’s okay to be cautious but if she is the one that you shouldn’t just push her out.. I know what happened with Maeve was heartbreaking and tragic... But maybe it was something to push you in the right direction.” JJ said as she sat down at her desk. “You should give her a chance, just saying. It might be a good thing.” JJ said before turning around in her chair to face her computer.
Spencer pulled out his phone and pulled up Abigail’s photo. Did he make the right decision? Should he have walked away? What if he made a mistake?
