Apathy!Logan + momile (Patton x Emile) + offend
I’m just gonna say it: WHY THE HECK IT THERE A DELETE ALL MESSAGES OPTION UNDER THE BLOG NAMES?!?!? For once I’m happy Tumblr glitches or else I would have accidentally deleted all your asks and prompts.
Characters: Apathy!Logan, Patton, c!Thomas, mentions of Emile, mentions of other sides.
Pairing: Momile, unrequited Logicality (sorta. Loved each other at different times)
Warnings: Arguments, heartbreak, dating, kissing, holding hands, crying, intimidation, fear
Summary: Patton broke Logan’s heart so Logan is going to break everything.
Let me know if I need to add more warnings.
******
Logan loved Patton.
He didn’t know why. He loved his smile, the puns, the way his eyes lit up when one of the others (particularly the Dark Sides) laughed at something he said. Logan loved how giving he was, how kind.
He loved Patton with his whole heart, only to have that heart be smashed into pieces when he heard Patton was dating Emile, the groups resident therapist.
Nothing mattered anymore. Everything seemed meaningless. He tried to get through it, putting on a fake smile, pretending not to be utterly broken every time he saw the two kiss or hold hands. Pretending that it didn’t hurt.
It didn’t work. Logan didn’t notice the changes in himself. He didn’t notice when logic suddenly went out the window. He didn’t notice when Thomas began to act lazily and was uncaring of any consequences. He didn’t notice how the others gave him concerned looks.
It all came to a head when Thomas called him and Patton out into the real world. They appeared in their usual spots, but Logan was...different. His tie was loose around his neck and his collar was flipped slightly. His glasses were dirty and had fallen down on his nose.
“Are you okay, Logan?” Thomas asked, concerned for his Logical side.
“Of course,” Logan said stiffly. “What seems to be the issue, Thomas?”
“I’m not sure. I just don’t care about anything anymore. I’m indifferent to my friends issues, unconcerned about my own problems, and disinterested in everything. I feel...apathetic.”
Apathetic. The word reverberated in Logan’s head, calling a portion of himself he didn’t know existed. It was then that he realized. Logic wasn’t who he was anymore. No, his function had shifted. He was Apathy.
Logan let out a short laugh. Thomas and Patton both looked at him, once again concerned.
“I believe I know the cause of you issue,” Logan said, earning him a hopeful look from their host. “Me.”
The hope turned to confusion. “How does logic have anything to do with feelings? I thought for sure I was doing something wrong,” Patton said.
“This was your fault,” Logan replied. “Just not in the way you thought.”
Patton’s eyes started to shine with tears. “Logan, you’re scaring me. What’s going on?”
Logan scoffed. “What’s going on, Morality, is that I’ve changed. My function is no longer Logic. I’m something new. And it’s all you fault.”
“I didn’t do anything,” Patton protested. “Please, Logan, we can help you!”
“I don’t want your help. I rather like my new position. How does it feel, Patton, to be overridden? To have all of your feelings be meaningless to the one person who matters most?”
“I don’t understand,” Patton said slowly.
“I loved you! I had loved you for a long time, but you got with him.” The venom in Logan’s voice was unmistakable. “You tossed my feelings aside. I finally let my emotions in, accepted that I had them, and you just stomped all over them.”
“I’m sorry.” Patton really was crying now. “I didn’t know. I used to love you to, Logan. I really did. But you hated showing emotions, hated feelings, so I moved on. We just loved each other at the wrong times. And now I have Emile.”
“Emile. The ridiculous therapist that needs to grow up.” Logan smiled at the look on Patton’s face. “Did I offend you, Morality? Gonna protect your boyfriend?”
“Stop, Logan, this isn’t you,” Patton pleaded. “Please, we can fix this.”
“Even if I wanted to be fixed, I’m beyond repair. You broke me and I’m going to stay that way. I’m going to stay as Apathy.” A shudder went through Patton at hearing Logan’s new function.
Logan was completely done with this conversation so he turned to Thomas, who had been watching the exchange with wide eyes. “I look forward to our next meeting, Thomas.”
Logan enjoyed the looks of fear on Patton’s and Thomas’ faces as he sank down. Oh yes, being Apathy was gonna be fun.

Two hearts, better than one
Summary: Deceit should know better, going through with another one of Remus’s ideas. He thought it would have been a one time deal, just something for them that night to experiment with his more reptilian side. But he’s starting to regret it with the growing nest of eggs, and horrible uncertainty of feelings swirling in his chest...he might be in some trouble here.
pairings: EmilexDeceitxRemy (idk ship name) tiny hint of implied intrulogical
Warnings: implied eggpreg, implied mpreg, (i dont go into detail about any of this)
Word count: 2,000 (First chapter) (Read on ao3) (wish to support me buy me a coffee :3)
Chapter 2 of “Say Something” series
Deceit hums happily to himself, warmth surrounding him literally and figuratively, his chest swelling with the overwhelming sense of love, something he finds he can never really get used to.
The others are having their usual movie night with Thomas that takes place every friday night to help him relieve stress. Remus had started tagging along as soon as he revealed himself, proclaiming he wants to use it to annoy everyone.
Deceit knows better, he just enjoys being up there with his brother and Logan, even if he is creating mischief while doing so.
He hums again, tongue lazily flicking out in contentment as a hand runs softly through his hair.
The others have their movie night, leaving him free to his own and he takes great pleasure in taking advantage of that.
“You think he’s falling asleep, babe?”
Deceit nuzzled his cheek against the chest he was resting on top of, feeling the vibrations when they spoke. One of their hands was cording through his hair and the other wrapped around him under the blanket that he was tucked under.
He was mostly hidden from view of Emile and Remy, the blanket coming up just below his eyes as he lay squished between the two.
He wasn’t wearing his traditional garb, just some comfy sweatpants and a hooded crop-top, wanting to relax with his partners.
“Hm at this rate you might just have him on one ride to sleepytime junction.”
He can’t help but chuckle amused by Emile’s reference, he forces his eyes open slightly, sitting up some so he can nuzzle his nose into the trait's cheek, earning a beautiful giggle.
They were currently in Remy and Emile’s home in the imagination, enjoying the night. They were traits, which were something akin to a side but less influential to Thomas. They couldn’t interact with him directly. They were created more so to care for the sides, to keep things in their host’s mind running smoothly, or in emergencies to help with a side’s job.
Traits generally lived in the imagination, It was easier for them than living in the subconscious. Seeing as they didn’t have all the abilities a side had, they would almost be considered “weaker.”
One should be careful not to be fooled by such a thought.
“You ready for bed, my dear Kaa?” Emile asked softly. He turned so he could nuzzle their noses together.
Deceit wrinkled his nose with a soft smile. “No.”
Remy chuckled behind him, hooking their chin over the snake side’s shoulder. “Really? It looks to me like you are hun, I can feel the exhaustion coming from you.” Their bright eyes looked to Deceit, the swirling colors of brown and gold seemingly unable to make up their mind on what color to stick with today. Their sunglasses were pushed up into their hair so his lovers could see his eyes, they didn’t show them off often except for the two of them.
Deceit was definitely not pouting as he tilted his head to rest his against Remy’s. He huffed in silent rebellion. He didn’t want to sleep.
Remy raises an eyebrow challengingly, lifting their head away from Deceit to look at him.
“I refuse to sleep. It's too early.”
It was Remy’s turn to huff this time, looking to Emile for assistance. The trait glanced between his two partners. Deceit feigned innocence, subtly trying to convince Em to take his side, while Remy was giving him a serious look to get help putting their silly serpent boyfriend to bed.
Emile sighed, giving in. “Alright, we can wait till the movie is over, it only has a couple more minutes and then it's bedtime for you, mister.”
He booped Deceit’s nose getting a hiss in reply, giggling at the sound.
Deceit smirked to himself in minor victory, burrowing himself back into his blankets as his partners settled around him once more. Emile hummed along to the last song of the movie, easily wrapping up the side in his arms and resting his head on Deceit's shoulder.
Remy shakes his head at the two before Deceit feels him shift beside him, giving Emile a kiss above him, and by the light laughter he could only assume they were peppering the traits face with kisses.
Curse their heights , Deceit thought to himself as he gently tugged Remy’s shirt to steal a kiss.
The trait complied, slouching down slightly to give Deceit a few kisses to his cheek, smirking to themselves as they trailed their soft kisses along his jaw, down the side of his neck.
Deceit’s jaw popped slightly with a yawn, eyes beginning to get heavy. Remy only gave him a glance before continuing his act of affection, despite the side finding his eyes closing.
A soft hazy feeling washed over his mind, as if a gentle hand was messaging it, trying to ease him into rest… wait a minute! Deceit jerked away, scooting towards Emile with an offended hiss.
“Are you using your abilities on me?!”
Remy gave a fake offended gasp, overdoing it slightly with dramatics in their posture. “What?! Why would you accuse me of such a thing, I would never use my powers against you!”
The snake side squinted at them with suspicion, his tongue flicking at the lie, and curled up against Emile.
“Oh come on babe, I wouldn’t do that to you~” Remy purred, sliding themselves into Deceit’s lap, making no escape for the smaller male. Deceit’s tongue flicked again and Remy chased it, kissing him on the lips before trailing kisses again to distract him once more.
It seems Emile picked up on what Remy was attempting to do, joining in on distracting Deceit from Remy’s influences by helping shower him with light kisses.
The little shit, how dare he! He was supposed to be on Deceit's side! Deceit thought, scowling at the betrayal.
Deceit felt his eyes growing heavy again. He pulled Emile by his shirt collar so he could place a soft kiss to his lips. If Em was going to be a little shit, then Dee was going to get the affection he wanted before they forced him to sleep.
Remy decided to slip their hands under the blanket, sliding their hands over Deceit’s thighs.
“Hmm, don’t start something you can’t finish now~” Deceit murmured, mischief glittering in his eyes.
“Oh and who says t- EMILE!” Remy shrieked as Emile lifted them effortlessly from the couch, scooping them up in his arms, and carefully adjusting his hold before offering an arm out for Deceit.
Remy continued to protest as Deceit shapeshifted to his snake form, curling himself around Emile’s arms and Remy.
“What the hell! I am not some sack of potatoes!” Emile laughed slightly, giving Remy a kiss.
“I know Rem. I’m sorry, but I wanted to move before this went any further.” He carried them to the bedroom, closing the door behind him with the heel of his foot, and set them down gently on the bed.
“I- are you sure? We don’t have to do this if you really don’t want to.” All of the usual sass had melted from Remy’s voice. Deceit shifted back, looking up at Emile frowning slightly.
“I know Remy and I have been awfully playful lately but I know you like taking the relationship slow, there’s no need to do anything tonight if you aren't ready.” Deceit really didn’t mind sleeping with either of them. He hardly thought of sex as an intimate thing, especially with all those years existing with Remus. Really, it felt more like a tool to be used. He’d used it plenty of times to tire Remus out in order to sleep on certain late nights.
But, it felt different with these two. They had stolen his heart...as cheesy as that sounded. He supposed the difference could also be because they are in a proper relationship together, something that was new to the deceitful side. Emile had been the one to confess to the two and explain what he wanted, and of course, they couldn’t say no to the adorable trait.
His existence had been much the better for it.
“I know what I want...I want to enter your cave of wonders.”
“Emile!”
“What? Just because I love cartoons doesn’t mean I'm innocent. Would have thought you would understand that by now” Emile giggled, and Deceit found himself chuckling at their exchange.
“If you are absolutely certain about this, then by all means let’s begin.” Deceit called the attention back to himself as he stripped off his pants, taking great pleasure in the red color that lit up his partners cheeks.
If something this tame got them blushing, he couldn't wait to see how they looked when they spotted his special surprise.
**************************************
Deceit hummed, squinting at himself in the bathroom mirror. His scales seemed different… almost lighter... a strong contrast to the rest of the scales on his body.
How strange...
He chose to ignore this strange occurrence. It wasn't like the sides didn't change all the time, after all. Thomas’s mind and thoughts were pretty fluid, so finding small changes to one’s appearance wasn't all too strange. He was thankful it was just the color of his scales.
The last time Thomas’s mind subconsciously changed his sides… Well, it left most of them with less than ideal features. More… monstrous ones...
It would be nice of Thomas if he could give Deceit some more height, but the saying little white lies must have really stuck with his host or else he was sure he would be taller by now.
There was no point complaining now, best to just move on.
Struggling slightly out of his pajamas, Deceit got to work dressing for the day. He paused, however, as the material seemed to aggravate his scales. He knew his scales were sensitive, but usually he had no difficulty wearing his clothes, having chosen specific fabrics that were less agitating.
On top of that, everything felt a little tight around his middle and thighs. Hm, had Thomas gained weight recently? No that couldn’t be it, he had been keeping pretty well to his exercise schedule. There haven't been any lies about skipping and doing it tomorrow… had Deceit gained weight? He hadn’t been adamantly trying to do so, so unless he was intentionally shapeshifting, he shouldn't gain any. Perhaps he had subconsciously shapeshifted? He had gotten some strong cravings for the past few days.
Well, either way, that could be easily remedied.
Closing his eyes, Deceit took a deep breath before willing his body to change. He just had to slim himself back down, shri- “Fuck!”
He stopped, eyes opening wide as he hunched over, arms wrapping around his middle. A sudden pain had shot through his stomach when he tried to shrink it down.
What the hell?!
Deceit breathed heavily as the pain eased away, allowing him to straighten back up. Panicked that he couldn’t shapeshift anymore, he quickly shifted into his snake form, finding he changed effortlessly. Finding nothing alarming, he quickly changed back.
He gave an annoyed hiss and ran a hand through his hair. He could still shapeshift somewhat so what could possi-
His eyes landed on the egg still resting in the makeshift nest he had made, back when Remus coaxed Dee into his little "experiment." It had grown in size, now roughly the size big enough to hold a toddler curled tightly inside.
...Could it be?
No! Deceit shook his head rapidly, trying to clear the thought. Nope! He wasn’t! He couldn't be!
He ignored the bitter taste of his own lies and put on the rest of his clothes. He adjusted them slightly, trying to hide the sudden pudge. No one would notice the slight bump. The loose shirt helped in this endeavor and if he just made his capulet long like a cloak…
There!
No one would be able to tell.
There certainly wasn’t anything going on anyway!
It’s nothing!

The Lost Prince ch.3
Summary: The kingdom of Elan had once been at peace. It’s said that so long as the royal family lived the land would flourish with them on the throne. But when an unexpected enemy appeared and took the lives of the royal family many stopped believing in the legend. It was simply a ploy by a former ruler to discourage a coup. But some say that the new king sparred the young prince out of fear of the myth, and that one day the true heir would once again take the throne.

CHAPTER 3
CHAPTER SUMMARY: They have a plan... it may have been a bad plan.
WARNINGS: imprisonment, forcing someone to perform demeaning acts, injury of a main character, blood, let me know if there’s anything else
As the sun began to set Virgil and Janus huddled together away from the door. As much as they appreciated the open door earlier, while looking at the flora and fauna, it was now letting in the cool evening breeze. Neither dared speak aloud outside of the safety of their room which only made ignoring their growling stomachs harder.
They hadn’t eaten since the night before and they couldn’t exactly bring along the small food stash they kept for emergencies. Virgil was actually starting to miss the stale bread when a pair of robins suddenly flew through the door.
The birds each held a small branch covered in berries as they landed in front of him and Janus. Virgil slowly held his hand out and one of the robins hopped towards him to drop the berries in his palm. Janus did the same with the other bird. The two young men nodded in thanks before the two robins flew away again.
“Didn’t know they did that.” Janus murmured before eating one of the berries.
“Unless one of them could get us the keys I don’t think we’ve needed them to anyway.”
The berries hadn’t been near enough to fill the two up, but it did help to quiet their stomachs. It took some time but eventually the two were able to doze off.
-
King Saul flipped though the pages of the old book while he waited for the servant to get there and translate. He couldn’t read whatever language it was written in, but the illustrations provided some clues. Most of it seemed to have something to do with the royal family and fae.
“Your Majesty, the servant is here to translate.” He heard someone call from outside his tent.
“Send him in then.”
A few moments later the servant walked through the door. “Your Majesty,” he bowed.
”Here,” King Saul said as he passed over the book, “now tell me what I need to know.”
“Of course, your Majesty.”
The servant flipped to the right page and began to translate, “If a time may come when their majesties are unable to have a child of their own volition or-“
“I don’t care for those parts. Just tell me the steps and what we need.”
“Yes, Sir.” The servant said before starting again, “The current head of the family and intended heir must share blood... Any amount will do... They then must join hands at sunset... The family head must willingly pass the bond... And both must say the spell.” He summarized.
“So we prick fingers, hold hands, and say a spell. Sounds easy enough.” King Saul mused, “And the spell?”
“I believe it’s “pactum sanguis densior sit quam ex utero sumus participes per familia necessitudines ita et in terra” your Majesty.”
“If that’s all then you may leave.” King Saul told him as he took the book back.
The servant bowed once more before exiting the kings tent. King Saul managed to locate the words of the spell and proceeded to write them down.
-
‘Perhaps,’ He thought to himself, ‘if the false king were not so self centered he might have realized the differences between me and the man who had originally delivered the book.’
...
By the time the sun rose on the second day, Virgil and Janus were wide awake. When the soldiers not standing guard had started waking up it was hard to ignore. Especially when they started to cook breakfast.
“Bastards...” Janus mumbled, earning a small smile from Virgil, “They could’ve at least done it down wind.”
“Some people aren’t very considerate I’m afraid.” A voice told them.
Both young men jumped and instinctively tried to move away from whoever had spoken.
“Oops, didn’t mean to startle you.” A somewhat willowy man in servants clothing told them.
Janus and Virgil shared a cautious glance at each other as the man reached into the satchel at his side before revealing a small loaf of bread. “Here,” He said as he held it out to them, “you’re probably feeling half starved by now.”
The two shared another look before Janus slowly reached forward to take the bread, “Thank you.”
“No need to thank me,” He told them before whispering, “your Majesty.” He winked.
“... Who are you?” Janus asked cautiously.
“You can call me Emile.” He smiled, “And you two have more people on your side than you think.”
”What?” Virgil asked.
Emile’s only response was a finger to his lips and a wink before turning and walking away.
“Well,” Janus started, “that was...”
“Weird.” Virgil finished, “That was definitely weird, right?”
Janus nodded, “Probably.”
The two of them were wary of the bread at first, but whatever fears they may have had were gone after the first bite. They silently decided the taste was because they hadn’t had fresh bread in years. But neither could remember even the freshest bread tasting so sweet.
Neither mentioned it but both felt full and surprisingly invigorated despite the small amount of food.
...
Within a few hours the camp was packed up, the wagon door was closed, and the group was on the move once again.
The weather wasn’t unpleasant and they even seemed to be making good time. That is until a loud thudding sound broke the silence.
Virgil and Janus had let themselves relax as their minds wandered with the shifting of the wagon. It wasn’t until they were suddenly flung into one corner that they realized something had happened.
“Ah what the fuck?” Virgil hissed.
“Sorry,” Janus told him as he attempted to pull himself away, “You alright?”
“Yeah, you?”
“I’m fine. My landing was a bit softer than yours.”
“Oh ha ha.” Virgil deadpanned.
“What’s going on?!” Saul boomed from somewhere ahead of the wagon, “Why are we stopped?!”
“My apologies, your Majesty, but a wheel has fallen off of the prisoners wagon. It doesn’t appear to be damaged, but we’ll have to stop for a while to fix it.” Someone standing nearby said.
“Well hurry up then!”
Janus and Virgil barely managed to get themselves upright by the time the door was opened. “Don’t get any ideas.” The soldier said as he unlocked the metal door.
“Come on we don’t have all day.” He grumbled when the two hesitated.
They shared a somewhat baffled look before Virgil moved to leave the wagon. His feet had barely touched the ground before he was grabbed by the collar and flung to the side, “Hurry up.” The man spat.
“Virgil!” Janus called when his friend hit the ground.
“I’m good.” He told him as he moved to stand up again. He was halfway up when a different soldier appeared next to him and pulled him to his feet. “The ground isn’t nearly as hard as the floor.” Virgil said when Janus joined him. Janus gave a sad smile in agreement.
While several people worked to put the wheel back, Virgil and Janus took the opportunity to soak in the feeling of the ground beneath their feet. It was so soft! And squishy! Even their bed mat was nothing compared to how comfortable the ground felt.
The soldiers were nearly done when the King road over to them on a large grey stallion. “How much longer?” He asked them.
“Almost done, your Majesty. It should be ready in just a minute.” One of them answered.
Saul nodded before turning his attention to Janus and Virgil.
Janus hated the way he looked at them. Normally it was somewhere between happy that he had taken over the kingdom and pissed that he and Virgil still existed. But now there was a bit of greed there too. By some miracle it managed to make Janus hate him more.
Virgil wished he could wipe that smug look off of Saul’s face. Preferably with a chair. But unfortunately he was not that brave and not that stupid. Also he was severely lacking in the chair department at the moment.
“The wagon is fixed, your Majesty. We are ready to continue when you are.” One of the soldiers informed.
“Good. Throw these two back in and let’s move on.” The king ordered as he turned his horse.
“Wait!” Janus said before Saul could leave.
The King paused to look at him but didn’t respond.
“Please, before we go any farther let Virgil go.”
Saul smirked, “Why would I do that?”
“Please,” Janus begged, “you don’t need him. Let him go, and let him live. I promise I will transfer the magic.”
“Why should I believe that? Besides, that scullery rat is good collateral. Why would I risk letting him go while he’s still useful?”
“I swear I will do whatever you ask. Just let him go free. Please.”
Virgil was sure Saul wasn’t actually considering letting him go. There was nothing to gain after all. He just wanted to toy with Janus. As soon as he started getting bored he’d laugh in their faces and they’d be back in the damn wagon.
Honestly he wasn’t sure whether or not to be relieved by that. On one hand he couldn’t escape, but that meant he wouldn’t have to leave Janus.
Virgil was startled out of his thoughts when Saul dismounted and walked over to them.
“Prove it.”
Janus blinked. What?
“Kneel.” Saul told him.
Janus spared a glance at Virgil who shook his head.
Despite his friends opposition Janus took a breath and dropped to one knee before bowing his head. “Please, your Majesty.” He tried again, “Let him go.”
The King’s lips curled into a cruel grin, “Kiss my boot.” He told him.
“Janus no!”
“Silence!” Saul commanded.
“Janus, don’t. Please.” Virgil begged him.
Janus closed his eyes. He hated him. God he hated Saul. He could live forever and never hate anyone more. But his love for Virgil was worth more than that hate. And his life was worth more than Janus’s own pride.
“Please, your Majesty,” he forced as he shifted to both knees.
“Janus...”
“Let my friend go free.”
Virgil couldn’t bring himself to watch. He closed his eyes and turned his head away. But that didn’t prevent the hushed laughter of the soldiers from reaching his ears.
“Someone grab a rope.” Saul ordered, “I believe we may be able to work something out.”
Virgil tried to ignore everyone and everything around him as he opened his eyes. He kneeled next to Janus and tentatively reached to grab his arm. Janus didn’t look at him.
“You shouldn’t have done that. We would’ve been ok.” Virgil choked before pulling him closer in a poor excuse for a hug.
“Just make it.” Janus told him as he attempted to hug back, “Go find that useless knight of ours and don’t look back. Please, Virgil.”
Virgil clung to him tighter, “I can’t just leave you like that.”
“You can and you will.” Janus told him, “Promise me, Virge.”
He wanted to promise. He did. But he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He couldn’t make that promise. He would stick to his plan and follow them. He couldn’t leave Janus behind. Not after everything.
“Please.” Janus begged.
But before Virgil even had a chance to reconsider he was pulled back by his hair. He attempted to cling to Janus, but was ripped away as if he hadn’t been holding on at all.
“Remove his chains and then tie him to a tree.” Saul ordered.
“What? No! Let him go! Please!” Janus yelled, “I did as you asked!”
“You did,” he agreed, “and I’m releasing him. Perhaps we can come back to check on him once we complete our little errand at the Delego.”
Janus watched as Virgil attempted to fight back against the soldiers trying to tie him up. All of a sudden he was eight-years old again. Being held too tightly by a man twice his size while his best friend fought tooth and nail just for the infinitesimal chance of escape. And once again he was too scared and too useless to do anything but cry and scream at the bad people to let him go.
The second the chains were off Virgil started swinging. He couldn’t let them tie him up. He wouldn’t stand a chance of helping Janus if that happened. He thrashed against the hands and ropes trying to get some sort of opening. He could vaguely hear Janus screaming something as the soldiers continued to close in on him with the rope.
Virgil sensed more than felt himself fall to the ground. He had to fight harder! They were gonna win and then they would take Janus away and he would never see him again.
He couldn’t move his arms anymore. His legs flailed harder, trying in vain to somehow prevent the inevitable. His legs were stuck now. Something was behind him- Wait something is by his face. He hears what sounds like a scream and his mouth fills with blood.
“Motherfucker!” The soldier who had attempted to gag him yelled when Virgil sunk his teeth into their hand. They quickly pulled their hand back and turned it into a fist.
“NO!” Janus screeched when Virgil’s head lolled to the side, “Virgil!”
“Little bastard.” The soldier spit on him as they clutched their injured hand.
“Remember your promise,” Saul said as Janus was pulled to his feet, “and then maybe we can come back and untie him.”
“You lying son of a bitch.” Janus spat.
He felt a blinding pain as the back of Saul’s hand landed against his face.
“We’ve wasted enough time.” Saul announced, “Let’s get moving.”
“Virgil!” Janus yelled as he was dragged back towards the wagon, “I’ll come back for you! I promise!”
The door was slammed shut and the wagon began to move.
~~~~~~NOTES~~~~~~
Good news: Virgil is no longer in immediate danger. Bad news: He’s unconscious and tied to a tree... Also Janus is still in immediate danger.
Y’all. I SWEAR there is going to be happier chapters. But we gotta get some of the bad stuff out of the way first. Next chapter might have some nice stuff but yeah. Don’t hold your breath for fluff.
Chapter 10: Parent Trapped
Phase one of their plan was to get their parents to spend some more time together. They decided to have weekly sleepovers, since either father would come in and spend a little bit of time talking while the kids got set up.Since it was summer, there were a few times they managed to have a few a week.
“They might as well live over here.” Remy joked on one such occasion as he brought the boys in. Roman and Logan vanished almost immediately, heading into the living room to make their sleepover fort.
Emile waved a hand. “It’s not like we don’t have the room. And they get along so well, they’re practically family. Did you want some tea?”
“Did you buy more of that lavender one?”
The adults headed into the kitchen, unaware of the whispering happening in the living room.
“Dad hated that tea.” Virgil whispered as he and Roman stretched a blanket over the couch. “He only bought more because Remy likes it.”
“Our dad bought mint extract yesterday.” Logan said as he crawled underneath to set up the pillows. “I only know one person who likes mint in his hot chocolate.”
The four of them crawled inside, getting settled. Patton put his hand out, high-fiving everyone. “Sounds like our plan is working.”
Over the next few sleepovers, the dads starting staying over later and later. At one point, the two of them realized that the four boys had fallen asleep while they were talking. Emile had been a little embarrassed, excusing himself immediately and heading home. But not before Remy had offered for him to stay over as well, causing the therapist to turn bright red before he left the house.
Bimonthly barbecues also became a summer tradition.
“Em, why don’t you come over here so I can show you how to grill?”
Cheeks ever so slightly pink, Emile left the boys at the table, moving to Remy’s side. “I’m a hopeless griller, that’s why I cook instead.”
“Come on, I can help you out.” Remy held out the spatula, smiling when Emile took it from his hand.
“How do you know when to flip them?” He asked, hovering over the grill.
“Sometimes you just know.” Remy said from behind Emile, making the shorter man shiver involuntarily. “And sometimes you have a timer set next to the grill.”
A laugh bubbled up out of Emile as he noticed the small electronic timer. “Oh.”
As it started to beep, Emile slid the spatula under a burger and flipped it. Unfortunately, the burger split in half and fell into the coals below.
“Here, let me…”
Remy grabbed Emile’s wrist, helping him through flipping the still usable burgers. When he was done he let go and restarted the timer, seemingly unaware of how his action had made Emile’s mind start reeling.
Near the end of the summer, Roman was struck with the absolute best idea he’d ever had. He waited until they were at their weekly sleepover to tell the others.
Once their fort was made, he dragged the rest of them inside. Patton knew Roman’s idea face, and squirmed a little while Roman made sure that their dads were still talking in the kitchen.
“Okay, I had the best idea in the universe last night.” He started, looking at each of them. “We need to truly parent trap them. Get them alone on what could be considered a date.”
Patton nodded, completely on board with the idea. “How do we do that?”
“Back to school dinner.” Virgil whispered, shooting a grin at Patton. “Dad won’t know any better.”
“I’m assuming it’s tradition to have a special dinner before the next year of school?” Logan asked, getting twin nods. “Our dad has never said no to a fun dinner. He commonly quotes Donna Meagle - ‘treat yo self’.”
“So we ask if we can go someplace a little fancier.” The gears were turning in Roman’s head, ideas forming left and right. “And then we slowly get out of it. I bet I can claim forgetting about summer reading and rope Lo into helping me.”
“Because you did that last year?”
“Shh!”
Virgil played with the frayed edges of his blanket. “I can tell him the restaurant makes me anxious. It probably will.”
Roman turned to the final member of their mission. “Pat?”
“I, um… I don’t know what to do.”
“You could fake sick?”
Patton made a face at Roman’s suggestion. “He’d believe it and then I’d feel bad. I don’t want to do something that isn’t true.”
“Tell him you worry about Virgil and don’t want him to be alone.” Logan suggested. “It’s not something that would be false, and it’s something your father wouldn’t question.”
“So it’s settled.” The huge smile on Roman’s face was infectious. “We commence stage three, dinner plans, next week.”
When next week rolled around, their plan went off without a hitch. Roman realized he actually had forgotten about summer reading. With how frantic he was, Remy allowed the two of them to stay home.
“Did you want me to help too? I can tell Em -”
“No!” Roman cried out, nearly blurting out their plan. “You can’t help, my teachers will know. They always know.”
A few blocks away, Emile was being nearly pushed out the door by Patton.
“If V is too anxious, we could go somewhere else.” He said, pulling out his phone to text Remy.
Virgil pushed on the phone, shaking his head. “Roman wanted a fancy dinner before we became sophomores. It’s not fair for me to deny him that.”
“Are you going to be okay?”
“We’ll be fine, we haven’t had twin time in a while.” Patton ruffled Virgil’s hair. “And I think some of the blonde is coming back through.”
Virgil’s hands shot to his hair. “We’ll be careful with the hair dye.”
“Alright. Call me if you need anything!”
“Have fun!”
Emile arrived at the restaurant right on time, opting to wait in the entry for the Sanders. Needless to say, he was a little confused when Remy was the only one to walk in.
“I thought the boys were coming?”
“I thought your kids were coming.”
Before they could figure out what had happened, a waitress appeared next to them, holding a stack of menus. “How many?”
“Two.” Remy said, following the waitress as she headed to a table in the back of the room.
“Your server will be by for your drink orders shortly!”
Emile sat down across from Remy, sliding his chair in. “Virgil stayed home because he was anxious about the restaurant and Patton stayed to make sure he wasn’t all by himself the night before they start school again.”
“Roman forgot his summer reading for the second year in a row and needed Logan’s help.” Remy leaned his arm on the table, resting his chin in his palm. “I think we’ve been set up.”
“What?”
“Please, Em, you can’t deny that we have chemistry. Our kids would have to be blind to not pick up on it.” Remy said, his voice dropping ever so slightly. “Does this count as our first date?”
Emile’s cheeks flushed immediately, earning a flirty smile from Remy. “I - what -”
“Hi, I’m Alice, I’m your server tonight.” A dark-haired woman said as she walked up to their table. “Can I get you started with some drinks?”
“Water please.” Emile squeaked out, before hiding his face behind the menu.
Alice looked over at Remy, leaning towards him. “And for you, handsome?”
Out of the corner of his eye, Remy could see Emile glare at the server. “I’ll take a bottle of sparkling rose for me and my date.”
The server immediately backed off, her customer service smile replacing her real one. “Of course. I’ll be right out with those.”
“This isn’t a date, Rem.” Emile put the menu back on the table. His cheeks were mostly back to normal. “A date is planned.”
“It could be a blind date.”
“We’ve met already.”
Remy nodded, before biting his lip. “Em, if you don’t want this to be a date, it doesn’t have to be a date. We can forget I ever said anything.”
“No! I - that’s not -” Emile took in a deep breath. “I would like to go on a date with you. But preferably not one set up by our kids. One that we plan together.”
The soft look Emile gave Remy was sweet enough to make him blush - which was something that other people were never able to do. He glanced down as he felt the back of his neck heat up. “Sounds great.”
“You weren’t wrong about the chemistry though.” Emile placed his hand over Remy’s on the table. Both of their cheeks heated at the action.
Remy laced their fingers together. “Good.”
The two of them took their time with dinner, lingering when they were finished.
“We should probably head out, I think they close soon.” Emile said, standing up.
Before he could grab his coat, Remy slipped it off the chair, holding it up. He helped Emile put it on, sliding it up and fixing the collar. Leaning in close, he whispered, “I can’t wait for our first real date.”
Emile wanted nothing more than to turn around and kiss him, but he managed to hold himself back. Instead, he gave Remy a peck on the cheek. “Neither can I.”
They went their separate ways, each being assaulted by their own children as soon as they walked in the door.
“How’d it go?” Patton asked, a knowing look on his face. Virgil was right behind him, wearing the same expression.
“It went well.” Emile hung up his jacket, hoping to calm his warm face. “Though next time, you could just tell us that you wanted us to go on a date.”
Giggles gave them away immediately. The twins disappeared into their bedrooms, satisfied with Emile’s answer.
When Remy walked in, Roman was at his side in seconds, tugging his coat off. “Well? How was your date?”
“It wasn’t a date.” Remy kept his voice level, cracking once he saw their faces drop. “But we are going on a real date soon.”
“SUCCESS!”
Rolling his eyes, Remy pointed toward the stairs. “Now go to bed. And no more meddling in my love life!”
“So you love him?”
“Bed!”
Once the delinquents had gone to their rooms, Remy pulled his phone out, sending a text to Emile.
When you walk away (nothing more to say)
Chapter 1 - The new kid
Trigger warnings: uhhh selective mutism?, swearing, sympathetic Deceit and Remus
word count: somewhere around 3,000
Author's note: do not hold me responsible for any cringiness, I've written this a long time ago
As soon as the bell rang Roman put his books in the bag and was out the door.
"Remember to submit your essay on Thursday!" Mrs. Harrison said just in time for Roman to hear before he headed to his locker. There, he already saw Patton.
"Hey, Pat! Long time no see!" he waved to his friend and began to unlock his locker.
Patton looked at him with a confused smile, "We talked to each other an hour ago," he put his math textbook into his locker before closing it and hugging Roman.
"An hour too long," the other laughed. Roman opened his eyes to see Logan approaching them, "Hey, specs, finally decided to join us?"
At the mention of Logan, Patton spun around and hugged the other too, "Hey Lo!" Roman could practically see Logan tense under the touch, but he didn't pull back.
"Nice to see you too, Patton," after the said boy freed his from his embrace, Logan adjusted his glasses on his face, "So, shall we go eat? I haven't eaten anything all day, so I would appreciate if we could go to the cafeteria now," the other two nodded and headed down the hallway, Patton scolding Logan about how skipping meals isn't healthy.
The cafeteria food was awful, like always, but Logan didn't seem to mind. Well, not as much as the other two. Roman and Patton didn't get any food, Logan and Patton bickering about hypocrisy and food habits, Roman didn't pay attention, too busy scrolling Instagram to care. What pulled him to reality was an exaggerated cough. The cough also happened to stop Logan and Patton, all of them looking up to the source of the sound.
Patton smiled at the tall stranger in front of them holding a lunch tray, "Can I help you?" the stranger gestured at himself and then at a chair at their table. Patton furrowed his eyebrows, but the smile didn't leave his face, "I'm sorry, I don't understand? Maybe use your words?" the stranger's eyebrows shot up as if he was saying something passive-aggressive, then pointed at himself and then at the chair, but this time more firmly. Patton looked between Roman and Logan, "I am really sorry, I-"
"He's asking if he can sit with you, dumbass," a voice came a few tables from their own. All four of them looked in the direction of the speaker, which the three recognized as Damon, the gossip of the school, "And before you say anything, you can sit with us, people who actually understand that maybe you can't speak," he turned to look at Patton with a plastic smile, which Roman knew he was doing on purpose.
Roman rolled his eyes, "Wow, so thoughtful. Last time I checked, you were the one making bets on which one of the choir will lose their voice first due to the intense training."
"Actually, that was me," said the other man sitting at the table with Damon, smiling like he was proud of himself.
Roman pinched the bridge of his nose, "That's even worse."
The stranger looked between the two tables, before walking over to the one where Damon and the other man sat. Roman scoffed, Logan squinted his eyes at the action, as if questioning the other's sanity, and Patton pouted about losing a potential friend, but soon the three got talking about biology homework that was due today, Roman begging Logan to let him copy it.
While that was happening, the stranger sat down next to the unnamed man, who was now smiling at him, "So why can't you speak?"
"Goddamnit Remus, you can't just ask people why they don't speak. Excuse him, I'm Damon," Damon laid a hand on his chest, "So, you're mute?"
The stranger shook his head.
Damon paused, "So you just don't speak?" the stranger shook his head again and pulled out a pen. He pointed at the notebook that Damon had on the table next to his textbook. Damon slid it to him. The stranger turned to the last page and tore it out as neatly as possible, then began writing on it. After he was done he turned it so the other two could see 'I have selective mutism, do you know what that is?'
"Oh, yeah," Remus exclaimed said, "Isn't that how people have an extreme phobia of speaking in public so much they, like, can't? I think I heard about that."
The unnamed man nodded, then began writing again: 'I can only speak to my uncle. He's a counsellor at this school, do you know him? Also, my name's Virgil'
Damon smirked, "Nice to meet you, Virgil. Yeah, we were both sent to Picani a few times obligatorily, like after Remus got into a fight with a teacher, or after I pierced my tongue in the school bathroom..." and Virgil just wondered what he had got himself into, "Do you call him Picani or Emile?" Virgil raised up two of his fingers, "Emile?" Damon concluded. Virgil nodded.
Remus chuckled, "That's so weird. You two look nothing alike. You don't even have the same eye colour."
Virgil shrugged, writing on the paper once more: 'lmao, yeah, a lot of people tell me that :D'
"I never saw you at the school, did you transfer here?" Damon tilted his head. This sentence took a little longer to write: 'I moved here after my mom lost custody of me (haha finally...) This is actually my first day here. Before, I went to a school in Jacksonville.'
"Oh my god, I've never been there! Is it true that they eat raccoons in there?" Virgil looked at Remus and slowly shook his head. At that, Remus let out a sad sound.
"What about your father?"
Virgil scrunched his shoulders and looked away.
"It's okay," Damon dismissively waved his arm, "I don't know who my dad is, so I understand if you don't wanna talk about him."
Virgil gave him a warm smile and moved his hand to his lips and down and away, and if Damon didn't know any better, he would've thought he was blowing him a kiss. The problem was, Damon didn't know any better. Virgil must've seen the confusion on his and Remus' face, as he wrote down something again: 'That means thank you in asl. Do u know sign language?"
Damon and Remus shook their heads.
'Do you wanna teach it?'
"Hell yeah!" Remus shouted loud enough so that the few tables, including the one with his brother, turned to look at them.
Damon scoffed, "Of course not, why would I wanna add to my list of skills and make it easier for more people to communicate with me? Such a waste of time.."
Virgil smiled at him and let out a chuckle. Damon reached over and took the piece of paper and pen, then began writing on it. Virgil furrowed his eyebrows, which shot up his forehead when he was handed the paper and pen back.
"That's my number," Damon pointed at it.
Virgil flinched when his arm was pulled away, his sleeve being pushed up, only to have a pen pressed to it, "Aaand this is my number" Remus added a heart to it. He also tried to draw a dick on his arm but Virgil yanked his arm away and smudged the drawing out of existence.
Virgil signed 'thanks' again, only this time the couple actually smiled at him.
"We're having a movie night tonight, you wanna come?" Remus supported his head by putting his hand on his cheek, pushing it up slightly, "You gotta walk with us to my house though, gotta get there before they do," Remus looked at the table where Patton was pinching Logan's cheeks while Roman was recording the whole thing with his phone. Virgil contemplated it for a second. On one side, he met these people like 15 minutes ago. On the other side, he really needed to make some friends. Larger groups mean fewer bullies. Virgil nodded, "Great! I can't wait to piss them off!" it didn't sound sarcastic at all.
"What do you have next? Like as a period," Virgil took out his lesson plan, handing it to Damon, "Oh, we have the same class. Ms. Watson is the best teacher ever."
"She's a pain in the ass. A total drag. Everyone on this planet hates her," Remus exaggerated every insult with stabbing the table with the plastic fork, ultimately breaking it.
Damon nodded, "Yeah, basically."
The bell ripped through the cafeteria, some of the students, including Remus, flinching at the sound.
Remus began to walk away, "Well, girls, I'll see you later," he winked at them. Or at least they thought it was a wink, it looked more like a spasm. The two of them walked to the biology classroom together, Damon explaining how Virgil should just lay low and not cause trouble when it comes to Ms. Watson, or she'll blame you for third-degree murder. Virgil wasn't really sure if that was an exaggeration.
The classroom was a mess. Not in a literal sense, the class itself was pretty clean, but people were sitting and laying on tables, some we carving something into the chairs, other's sticking gum to the tables. Only one of the students waited by the door. Oliver, he was told. He watches for when the teacher comes. Speaking of the teacher, Oliver had turned away from the hallway and to his classmates, "She's coming! The fury is coming!"
Immediately, all the pupils were in their seats, no gum being chewed, no chairs being carved. They were all quiet when the teacher came in. She didn't say a word, closing the door after her and going straight to the attendance book. She furrowed her eyebrows after scanning down the page for a while.
"Virgil Blake?"
Virgil stood up, all of the eyes burning into him.
"You're new?" she raised an eyebrow.
Virgil nodded.
She closed the book, nodding slowly, "Do you have all the textbooks?"
Virgil nodded again.
She turned to the blackboard, "So, last week we talked about the cell structure of fungi. Today's lesson we will be..."
Virgil had sat down by that point, trying to focus on the lecture. That plan fell short as something hit the back of his neck, ending up in the hood of his hoodie. He reached behind, looking at the folded paper. He quietly tried to unwrap it, Damon already gaping at it before he even unwrapped it.
It was a drawing, a bad one at that. There was a cow with a plaid skirt and a black denim vest with a popped collar, similar to what Damon wore. There were also yellow circles scribbled over each other, which Virgil assumed was his hair. On the side was written 'COW' in capital letters. Virgil looked at Damon, who had pulled back to his chair and crossed his arms, looking at the floor next to him. Virgil quickly crunched up the paper and put it in his binder, the first thing he could think of to get it out of sight. Then he took a pen in his hand and began to write on his hand, eventually tapping Damon's shoulder and showing him the arm: 'I think you look really cool :)'
Damon chuckled sadly, looking up at Virgil, who smiled back. Damon put a hand to his lips and then away, mimicking the sign Virgil had taught him.
The heartfelt moment was interrupted by the deafening school bell, announcing the lesson was over, "Alright ya' little punks, the lesson is over, get ya' asses outta my classroom."
"Don't have to say that twice," Damon mumbled so quietly that even Virgil had to strain his ears to hear it. He had to resist the urge to burst into a fit of giggles. The rest of the day went as normal as it could, the three of them meeting in the hallway in-between lessons. Finally, the last bell rang and most of the class scrambled for the exit, including Patton and Virgil, who crashed into each other.
"Oh, sorry, didn't see ya there," Patton smiled up at Virgil, who had put his hands into a defensive manner and smiled tensely. Before Patton could say anything, Virgil was already being dragged away by Remus, who rembled about how they're gonna be there second and what not.
"Seriously, Roman is a fucking fast walker, we better hurry the fuck up," Damon had now joined the club, being dagged by Remus out of the building before any of them could protest.
"Oh, Virgil, here you are!" the three looked at the cheery voice, Remus not bothering to stop, so Virgil had to forcefully grab Remus by the back of his leather jacket, ultimately stopping him. His uncle, Emile, looked tensely between the three, "Already making friends I see?" Virgil nodded. He let go of Remus in favour of signing something that was beyond Damon's and Remus' knowledge, but Mr. Picani seemed to understand perfectly, "Why of course, just let me know if you need me to pick you up."
Virgil rolled his eyes and signed something shorter but still complicated. Mr. Picani seemed to tense up, "Are you sure?" he glanced between the two of them, then turned back to Virgil and spoke back, this time using sigh language. Virgil scoffed, signing back in a snappy manner, but then his expression relaxed. Mr. Picani nodded, "Alright then, I trust you. Just be sure to call me if you decide to stay the night," he hugged Virgil, who tried to scramble back and away from his uncle. Finally, Picani pulled back and Virgil stumbled a few steps back. Remus couldn't hold back a giggle. Virgil glared at him in exchange, signing something to Mr. Picani before he went to his car.
The three continued walking to Remus' house, which was not far from the school. Virgil noticed the chimney had smoke in it, smelling sweet. Remus reached under the welcome mat and pulled out a key, unlocking the door, "Ma, I'm home!"
"Hey, Remus, could you be an absolute sweetheart and go to the basement for more flour?" a short plum woman peeked out from the kitchen, "Hey Damon!"
"Hey, Ms. Addington."
Ms. Addington looked over at the other boy, "And who are you?" she smiled in a sweet way that makes teeth rot.
"That's Virgil," Damon gestured to him.
"Nice to meet you, are you new here?"
"He can't speak."
"Oh, my apologies then," she still smiled at him. She reminded him of uncle Emile in a way. She had this calm, cheerful atmosphere around her, he was sure they would get along well.
"Bad news, no flour to be found," Remus came out of the basement.
"Ah, fucking shit, what did I make all this shit for then?" she gestured at something on the counter that Virgil couldn't see. Wow, they would definitely not get along. For fuck's sake, uncle Emile had a swear jar.
"The hell do I know, you always try to be innovative," Remus answered, clearly unphased. He moved over to the living room, opening the tv stand where a bunch of DVDs were stacked on each other, "Alrighty, ladies, the selection for this movie night is: Nightmare on the elm street, The Black Cauldron, The Purge 2 ooooor," he reached into the back, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre."
Damon plopped down onto the couch, "Purge 2, a classic."
Virgil was sitting on the other side, nodding his head in agreement.
Remus opened the DVD player, "Chainsaw massacre it is then,"
"Hell no! We watched that last time and I fucking threw up! I am not doing that again!" Damon seemed livid, and Virgil kicked Remus in the back to state his disagreement.
"Fine, fine, Purge 2, but first, popcorn," Remus got up and went to the kitchen, then Damon walked upstairs to get blankets. So Vigil waited, looking over the DVD collection they had. There were all kinds of movies, from Sleeping Beauty to The Godfather, it really was quite a lot. Virgil heard the door open, looking at the figures stepping in.
"And then I was like, 'You really are', and then she-Hey, what the hell are you doing here?!" Roman looked panicked for a brief second before Remus ran into the living room loudly announcing that the popcorn is done, and Damon went down with 3 tons worth of blankets on his back. They had all settled down on the couch, Remus laying across both of their laps with his face in his hands.
"We're watching The Puuuurge tonight!" he said in a sing-songy voice.
Roman scoffed, "No, we're not! We're watching Lion King!"
"Mom! Roman is trying to establish dominance over the DVDs again!"
A quiet sigh could be heard from the kitchen, "For the last time, Remus, I don't even know what that means. Roman, Remus was here first, and you already had a movie night yesterday, let him have it."
Virgil never thought he would see someone look so betrayed, "But-" Ms. Addington walked into the living room, tsk-ing Roman.
"You forced us to watch Bambi three movie nights in a row, we're going to watch The Purge. You and your friends can go upstairs like Remus did if you don't like it," she waved stirring spoon in front of his face like a knife.
Finally, Roman gave in, as he sat down onto the floor and crossed his arms and legs. Logan did too, but Patton said he'd rather not watch it and went home.
It was about halfway through the movie that Roman went to his room because he was tired. Then, Ms. Addington, Natalie, as Virgil had learned, fell asleep in her chair. Next was Logan to go, who got too tired from analyzing all the inconsistencies and bickering with Remus. Now, it was only the three that remained, Remus usually shouting words of encouragement for the killers or telling the other two better and more effective methods of killing someone. He was splayed over Damons and Virgil's legs, lying on his stomach. He eventually went out too, snoring slightly and drooling on Virgil's pants, which he found both disgusting and incredibly funny. Damon and Virgil sat in silence, eating what was left of the popcorn. Damon didn't last until the credits. He didn't get to see that the main character didn't actually kill the guy he was after, which Virgil thought was a shame. So there he was, surrounded by a pile of sleeping bodies and it was getting close to midnight. He tried to reach for his phone, but as it was in his back pocket, it was no use. He finally fell asleep at 1 am, shortly after Damon shifted in his sleep and collapsed against him, leaving Virgil with no chance to move.
Remile - A Full Blown Relationship: One
———————————————————————
Emile & Remy had been dating for about half a year & somehow a few assholes at Emile’s school had found out about it. Remy was supposed to pick him up around 16.30 so he had to wait at campus after school. The group of jocks had waited until Emile was alone & then dragged him around the main building to where no one ever went & beat him senseless. That had been around 16.20 & when Remy came Emile had been nowhere to be seen. Remy texted, called & screamed for his boyfriend but nothing. He looked around & when he found Emile he had been laying on the ground, lifeless, for almost an hour.
Perspective (mainly): Remy
“EMILE!” He couldn’t see properly who it was but he knew it was him & his voice was filled with panic. As he ran up to his boyfriend he pulled out his phone & called 911. As he got to his boyfriend someone picked up.
“911, what’s your emergency”
“M- my boyfriend! H- he- I thin- I think he got beaten up! He’s bleeding &- &” he spoke quickly & his voice was even more filled with panic than before as he tried to get Emile to wake up.
“Sir, please try to stay calm. Where are you?”
“Behind the main building of Masons”
“Okay, ambulance is on it’s way. Is your boyfriend awake?”
“N-“
“Remy? Emile’s voice was weak almost unhearable but he heard it, tears that had been stuck in his eyelashes now flowed down his cheeks.
“Yeah”
“Try to keep him awake, ambulance should be there at any moment” Remy had dropped the phone the moment he had said that Emile was awake but he understood what he had to do.
“Oh my fucking god! Emile! Who- wha-“ Remy got his boyfriend to sit up a little & kissed his forehead “What happened? Who did this?” He didn’t think he would get an answer right now but he did.
“Some guys dragged me here & beat me up” Emile’s voice was still weak but a little louder. Mentally, Remy swore to never let Emile be alone at campus again as he hugged his boyfriend & the ambulance drove up behind him.
“They’ll never dare to touch you again, I promise”
———————
Three days later Emile got out of the hospital. He had a broken leg & several bruises. He wasn’t allowed to go back to school in a couple of weeks & during those weeks he basically lived at Remy’s place.. & when those weeks were over he wasn’t going to Masons anymore. Instead of the fancy, expensive school he was now going to Sanders with Remy instead & oh, how much better wasn’t that? Remy could now make sure Emile was always safe or at least be nearby.
———————
Perspective(mainly): Emile
“Remy, I can walk on my own, I have crutches” Emile said, slightly ashamed over the fact that Remy was giving him a piggyback ride over a campus filled with people.
“I know you CAN but your leg is still broken & I don’t mind giving my adorable boyfriend piggyback rides” Remy knew how overprotective he had became after what happened but he really didn’t care, as long as Emile didn’t get hurt.
“Hmm.. fine, I guess it’s nice not to have to walk” Emile relaxed slightly & leaned his head against the side of Remy’s as a guy, just slightly overdressed, walked up to them.
“Hey, Princey” Remy said & smirked at the guy.
“Morning, Remy!” The guy said & looked at Emile “Judging by.. everything you gotta be Emile! I’m Roman! I’ve heard a lot about you!” the guy- Roman was energetic & had a very sunny smile.
“Nice to meet you.. I’ve heard literally nothing about you” he said & elbowed Remy slightly. Roman made some offended, overdramatic noises & that added to the fact that Remy had called him ‘Princey’ made him relise who he was tho.
“Ahh! Wait, no! You’re the theatre guy! Remy never talks about any of his friends by name so..” Remy scoffed & Roman laughed slightly.
“Ahaaa! Yeah, now that sounds like Remy, alright” Emile laughted at that & already knew he was gonna like this guy.
“We have about an hour before the classes start so.. anyone wants coffe? Imma meet Virgil in the cafeteria anyway” As the coffee addict Remy was, he lit up just at the mention of coffee & immediately nodded enthusiastically.
“Don’t have to ask me twice!” He said & turned his gaze towards Emile “What do you say, babe?”
“Sounds great!” He said & gave his boyfriend a kiss on his cheek & then buried his face in the side of his neck.
It was kinda weird for Emile to be able to show so much affection in school but he surely didn’t mind it.
Roman offered to take Emile’s crutches so Emile could hold onto Remy better & he gratefully handed the crunches over to Roman & then tighten his grip around his boyfriend & Remy returned that with a kiss on Emile’s cheek.
As they got to the cafeteria Remy carefully put Emile down & Roman gave him his crutches. Roman asked what they wanted & told them to go sit at ‘the normal table’ & that he could pay for their drinks. Emile followed his boyfriend down to a table in the corner where a guy who was obviously emo sat & drew with big headphones on. As they got closer to the table he glanced up & took off his headphones.
“Hello, sleepyhead” he said & nodded at Remy who scoffed in reply.
“Emo nightmare” the guy scoffed & then looked over at Emile.
“You must be Emile” Emile nodded in reply & figured that the guy who Remy always called emo nightmare must be the guy Roman was gonna meet here, Virgil.
“Yeah, Virgil, right?” He said as he sat down. Virgil looked at him in slight surprise.
“Did you figure that out yourself ot did this bitch actually ever say my name to you?” He said & gestured towards Remy, who had now settled down next to Emile, & Emile couldn’t help but laugh slightly at that.
“I figured it out. He never uses names for any of you but apparently I’m special” as Emile said the last part Remy smiled, blushed slightly & rolled his eyes.
“Of course you’re special, babe” he said & turned his boyfriend’s face with one hand & gave him a quick kiss.
“Hello there, love birds!” Roman’s energetic voice got them all to turn their attention to him “here’s your coffee” he said & put down a cup in front if Remy “your tea” & put down a cup in front of Emile & then finally “& your coffee” he said as he sat down next to Virgil who reattached out his hand for it “Na-a!” Roman stretched his arm in the opposite direction & continued “You know what applies for your daily free coffee” he said & Virgil rolled his eyes in an amused way, took a grip of Roman’s collar with both hands & pulled him into a deep kiss & he hummed satisfied before Virgil broke the kiss.
“Now give me my coffee, Princey” Roman chuckled slightly & gave Virgil his coffee which he immediately took a big sip from.
Emile didn’t stare, barely even looked at them, but his brain was filled with thoughts. There was more people than him (& his boyfriend) that were LGBTQ+ at this place? & they were friends with his boyfriend? & his boyfriend hadn’t told him? He giggled slightly which caused Remy to look at him as if he knew exactly what was going through his head.
“Yeah, this happens every day” he said quietly even though he knew that he could have screamed it & the other two still wouldn’t hear it as they were way to caught up in being ‘that couple’ that barely could see or hear anything but each other.
Emile looked around & the fact that nobody even glanced over at them made him want to scream of happiness but instead he just giggled again & then took Remy coffee out of his hand just as he was about to take a sip & put the cup on the table. Remy was just going to protest as Emile twisted his hand into the material if his t-shirt & then pulled him into a deep, long kiss & Remy hummed happily & decided to reduce the distance between them only so the kiss could last a little longer. Emile was the one who yielded & when Remy looked at him he blushed deeply but the happy look on his face could easily challenge the brightness of the sun itself & Remy couldn’t possibly do anything but smile back at him. When Emile then looked up properly again there was another guy sitting at the table, next to Virgil.
“Hello” Emile said with a raw voice & the man giggled.
“Hi! I’ll take that as that you are Emile?” The guy had a light blue jumper skirt over a baby pink t-shirt & Emile immediately knew who this was.
“Heh, yeah, that’s me” he said “& you’re Patton Heart” now that even got Roman & Virgil to look at him. How could he possibly know that?
“Yup! That’s me, alright!” He said bubbely & Remy & Virgil looked confused for a moment before realising how he knew who Patton was.
“I keep forgetting how many followers you have online” Remy said teasingly & Patton giggled.
“The designer never gets credit” Roman signed ironically & shook his head & all of them started to laugh.
“Maybe if-“ Patton started but got interrupted.
“NO! I can’t just ride on your fame, Pat”
“Roman.. you’re literally making half of the clothes. Why not just make yourself something & appear in some pictures? You deserve to be credited more than just in the caption! Or maybe just appear in a YouTube video?”
“Hmm.. maybe we could make a video with me designing & making clothes.. but wouldn’t that be bo-“
“Roman!” Both Patton & Virgil said it at the same time & Emile & Remy only amused watched the conversation.
“Just do it for all in the world!” Virgil held his boyfriend’s face with both hands close to his own & as soon as Roman had signed & said ‘okay’ he gave him a quick but deep kiss. “Good”
Remy glanced down on his clock & sighed “I need to go” he said before standing up & turning towards his boyfriend “if it is anything just text me, kej?”
“Okay” Emile said, trying to hide how sad he was about him having to leave already.. but obviously Remy saw it.
“Em, I’m serious, I’ll keep track of my phone & if it’s urgent..” he took out his phone from his bag & quickly did something “..you have my schedule, so you know where to find me” Emile at once felt a little better & smiled.
“Thanks”
“No problem, babe” Remy said & leaned down to quickly kiss his boyfriend & then took off before quickly swirling around “Pat, you’re in the same class as him. Take care of him” Patton giggled & nodded & now Remy actually left.
“We have about 10 more minutes before we need to leave” he said to Emile.
“Okay” he smiled genuinely even though he was scared. He kind of knew someone in his class so it should be fine.
& fine it was! It was more than fine, it was nice & he was pleased to see that his & Remy’s lunch hour fell at the same time.
———————
Perspective (mainly): Remy
Remy had checked his phone at least twice every class & was relived that he hadn’t gotten any texts from his boyfriend. When the lunch break began he grabbed Logan, another of his friends & hurried to the cafeteria where he spotted Patton, Emile & Declan at the normal table. They quickly got food & walked down to the table.
“Hello there, sugar cube” Remy said as he sat down next to his boyfriend who lit up as soon as he had heard his voice & hugged him as soon as he had settled down. “Missed me?” Remy said teasingly & Emile giggled.
“Of course, silly!” Emile gave him a quick kiss & then kept eating his food.
“Ugh, I wish my boyfriend had his lunch at the same time as me too” Declan signhed & Patton laughed.
“I wish I wasn’t single” he glanced over at Logan who, per usual, sat quietly & ate his lunch. He said it was unpractical to talk as you ate & should wait until afterwards. Remy rolled his eyes & chuckled slightly at the fact that Logan STILL hadn’t noticed the obvious crush Patton had on him.
“Well, maybe if you weren’t such a coward you wouldn’t be” Declan said whith a slightly annoyed tone which, to everyone’s surprise, caused Logan to talk during a meal.
“Declan, stop it. Feelings aren’t always easy” they all stared at him, including Emile who had met all his boyfriend’s friends except Logan earlier that day & therefore knew that this guy did not usually talk during meals, Logan however didn’t notice that nor the small blush appearing on Patton’s face as he already had gone back to his usual setting.
“Oookay! Declan, how’s Remus?” Remy asked to break the awkward silence that had appeared.
“Oh! He’s good.. like, really goo-“
“Dee, sthap! TMI. I know what you mean when you go on like that” Patton said which caused a mild blush & wicked grin to appear on Declan’s face & the others to laugh loudly.
“Roman would literally kill you if was here, you know” Patton said with a mannered voice & they all laughed, even Logan chuckled slightly.
“I can’t blame him tho, who would want to hear about their sibling’s sex life?” Remy said & once again even Logan chuckled slightly.
“I believe.. uhm.. RIGHT! No one!” Emile said with a mannered voice.
“That is a very rare thing to be interested in, yes” Logan’s voice once again took them by surprise but this time he had actually finished his food.
“Hah, mr. Talkative is done, I see” Remy said before putting on a wicked grin & started talking teasingly “Sooo! Logan! Any guys you’ve found interested lately” Logan immediately flushed up & glanced over at Patton before quickly looking down back at the table. So his theory had proven to be correct once again; Patton & Logan liked each other but was far to blind to see it.
“Why not.. I don’t know.. ask him out?” Declan said teasingly, still that wicked grin on his lips.
“I should leave” Logan said, stood up, took his things & left.
“I- I’ll be right back” Patton’s voice was cracking & he ran off before the other’s had the chance to even see where he went.
“Fuck..” Declan said.
“Oh yeah, big time” Remy said.
“Okay so let me get this straight! Patton like Logan & Logan like Patton but they’re far to blind for the obvious signs that their feelings are mutual?”
“Yup” Remy sighed.
“& I’m just guessing this isn’t the first time you’ve tried to get one of them to confess?”
“Your guess is correct” Declan said.
“Well, I’m not expecting you to get this since you probably know about as much about psychology as I know about teaching but you’re both stupid”
The Man
Dante's head hangs from his shoulders, his back aches, not as sharply as it had when the welts had just been carved into it with a whip, but still enough to rob him of any hopes of sleep.
He feels cold, his hands tingle from hanging above him, he imagines Eden, briefly, holding them, tracing the path of the veins from shoulder to fingertip, her fingers brushing his skin, her touch soft, gentle.
He feels empty.
Would he ever feel that again? Ever see the look in her eyes as she explained what worked how, and why and when and she's just so brilliant, so wonderful, so intelligent, so…great.
How cruel life was to give him someone like that only to take her away so soon.
Would he ever tell her.
Would he ever see her, hold her, touch her, kiss her.
His stomach aches, he hasn't eaten in a few days. Perhaps they've forgotten about him locked up here in the dark. The only source of light is a narrow strip under the door from the hall outside. Even that hasn't been on for a few days.
Perhaps this was the end.
Cmon dude, really? You're giving up? What would big brother say? Do your homeland proud and get some morale, eh comrade?
Emil's voice rings in his ears, he smiles softly, imagining how he would've tackled the situation. He'd probably have figured his way out of it already, maybe smack talked his way through the guards, flipped off the building as he walked away and put on sunglasses, explosions raining behind him.
Like those movies he'd told him about.
Eden would've figured it out too, she’d have devised a key from a stray hair pin, maybe figured out the pattern of the guard schedules and snuck out dressed as one of them in broad daylight, probably would've found a way to tie up one of the guards in her place, if not… if not him. She'd have figured it out.
They both would've.
He missed them, so deeply, so vehemently. It was so much worse to have and lose than to never have had at all.
The hallway lights up. Footsteps. Closer.. closer, he lifts his head in time to see the doorknob turn, the door open, The Man walks in, a smile playing on his lips.
'How are you darling, it's been a while. Did you miss me?'
He leans back, ever so slightly, meeting his gaze. He doesn't spit at his shoes, doesn't scan his body for cues he could use to escape. If there’s anything Dante can do, it's to feign obedience and loyalty. God knows he’s had enough practice.
'I brought you a little gift, something fun - you see, I was getting somewhat bored if I'm being fully honest- I do apologize darling, it’s why I was gone for so long.' his energy is manic opposite Dante, a hollowed out, near lifeless form, watching in silent placidity.
'but this should, what’s the word, ah yes- revive! Revive the relationship, close your eyes darling'
Dante takes a deep breath, closing his eyes. If he keeps him interested, keeps him occupied, he won't go after the others, won't bring them back.
He feels something cold and metallic wrap around his neck, clicking shut.
‘Open up! What do you think?'
It's…. It's a...ошейник. What was that word? Hed read it once, when he and Eden were reading those children's books in the library- the dog thing-leash? No, no, harness….no no no-
'It's a collar! Oh it makes you look so handsome, darling!'
Collar. It's a collar.
'And look!' The Man's grin widened as he produced a small remote control from his back pocket, 'Style and function!' he presses the button-
Electricity surges through Dante's body, he arches his back, a groan escaping him, his fingers tingle, his stomach flips inside out, his neck burns burns burns, his breathing is slow, raspy. He rests his head back against the concrete wall.
The Man pulls his lips tight, a small smile, 'Oops, didn't realize how powerful these things were. I wonder if you can alter the voltage - there's probably a YouTube tutorial out there. But for later. Until then, are you hungry darling? You must be, I brought your favourite! Soup!'
He walks over to the door, opening it part way and pulling in a small bowl, 'Here sweetheart,' he holds it up to Dante's lips, 'Drink up'
Dante takes a deep breath, forcing himself to straighten, the smell alone feels like a hot poker burning sweetly into his middle. He's so hungry.
He starts drinking, barely pausing to chew the vegetables when another surge runs through him, he gasps, chokes, his stomach somersaults and instantly he heaves, returning the soup back to the bowl. Mostly.
'okay okay I promise that’s it,' The Man laughs, almost bouncing with excitement at the fine practical joke he's just pulled off, his smile turns sour then drops, 'Oh look at what you've done now, darling, what a mess. And all over my new shoes too.' He gagged, 'You always have to cut my fun short don’t you.' He sighs, setting the bowl down near Dante's knee. Close enough to tempt him, well, in it’s partly digested state, the effect was more of synching his stomach shut. He felt bile rising in his throat.
The Man walked back over to the door, ' I’ll have someone round for that later, God it’s making me sick, you know I’m an empathetic vomiter. I’ll leave you to it then. Oh,' he paused in the doorway, one hand on the doorjamb, the other holds the remote, he waves it lightly, smiling once again, 'Ill be thinking of you'
Dante rests his head back, a light sheen of sweat covers his head, his eyelids droop.
Keep him focused. Keep him interested. Keep him occupied.
God, he misses them.
We're All Monsters Here
Summary: Thomas goes into the forest on a dare, he doesn't exactly mind.
Pairing: royality, analogical, remas
Trigger Warning: implied suicidal intentions
Note: Remy is nb, because I can.
"Ok, truth or dare?" Thomas thought, "dare." Remy smiled deviously, "go into the forest." "What forest?" Remy giggled, "THE forest." Thomas shook his head, "no, nonononono. Absolutely not, do I LOOK like I want to die?" Remy smiled, "oh come on, what's the worst that could happen?" "The legends could be real." Remy rolled their eyes, "gurl, that's about as likely as me going a day without coffee." Thomas grimaced, "fine! Get in the car." Remy smiled as they jumped up, "dont mind if I do."
The car stopped, "alright, are you going with me?" They laughed, "sorry hun, but it's your dare." "Admit it, you're scared." "No, I just dont wanna go in!" "Suuuuuure"
Thomas walked in, "this is stupid this is stupid this is stupid this is stupid this is stupid" he shone the flashlight back and forth, "nothing so far." He walked further, and all.of a sudden, his cars headlights went off. "Remy! Did you cut the lights!" He walked back in the direction of the car, and he walked, and walked, and walked. "No way I walked THAT far from the car." "No, you're just another one of the Unlucky." Thomas jumped around to see, nothing? "Up here genius." Thomas looked up to see a winged human figure, "hey, I'm Anx." "That's an odd name." Anx landed on the ground in front of him, "I'm an odd person." "What do you mean I'm one of the Unlucky?" "You walked into the Night Forest, terrible place, I'd tell you to leave if you could." "If I could?" Anx looked at him funny, "didnt you know? You're here for a reason, you cant leave until you figure out what it was." He looked at the sky, "we better go, Morning Light will be soon, no monster can be out during that time." Thomas nodded.
They walked in silence for a few minutes, before Thomas asked a, probably rude, question, "what...are you?" "Dragon." "A..dragon? Then why aren't you-" "a hideous beast covered in scales and breathing fire? Those aren't dragons. They're something worse." Thomas nodded, "good to know."
"We have to help him, he might be in danger!" "I dunno kiddo, he looks harmless." "All dragons look harmless, doesn't mean they are!" "I agree with Patton on this one, Roman, he poses no danger to that human," "but we have to help him before he-" "changes?" "Yes."
Anx stopped, and held out an arm in front of Thomas, "I hear something." He jumped into the bushes, "ow!" Anx walked out, growling, holding a pouting person by the collar of his cape. "What the hell vamp?" The vampire growled, "I only wished to protect the human!" "Ok princey, and that's different than what I'm doing because....?" The vampire pouted, ".... its not." A transparent human, a ghost? Walked out of the bushes, "you dramatic imbicile! Leave the dragon alone!" Vampire growled, "but-" he was interrupted by a fatherly voice, "now kiddo, hes not evil, those are dragon WITCHES, not dragons." "Ok pat." Pat smiled, "I'm Patton, the ghost is Logan, and the vampire is roman!" Thomas nodded, "ok. Well, I'm gonna go process all of this, I'll be back in an hour." Anx grabbed him, "no time, it's almost Morning Light." Roman looked at the sky, shocked, "shit! We're too far from our house to get back there, can we stay at yours, please?" Anx growled, "if your highness has no issue with staying in a cave." Roman grimaced, "fine."
The silent group trekked through the forest, Patton riding on Roman's back. "Moon sickness," he explained, "the full moons in two nights, so I'm feeling ill." Roman kissed him, "but I will carry you until you once again feel vigilant my prince!" Anx rolled his eyes and made a gagging sound. They made it to Anx's cave, "THIS is what you call a cave! Do you think of a castle as a hovel then!" "No, but it is built out of a cave after years of collecting and building." Roman blushed white, "sorry." They entered, "alright, before I send all of you off to separate obscure corners of my house, do any of you need anything?" "Food." "Blood" "wolvesbane." "Isnt that-" "poisonous to werewolves? Only in wolf form. In human form it can help with moon sickness symptoms." "Oh, that makes sense."
After Thomas had his food and water, roman had his blood, and Patton had his wolvesbane and had been carried off to bed by Roman. Anx and Logan sat quietly in the living room, "so, what are you going to do?" Anx spread his wings around the chair and leaned back, "I'm taking him to Emile." Logan nodded, "that might be satisfactory." They sat in silence. "Are you cold?" Logan smiled and shook his head, "Virgil, I've forgotten what cold feels like." Virgil blushed purple, "right, sorry. I am though, cold." He breathed a small flame into the fireplace, "lo," "yes?" "Why is Roman adamant on the idea that I'm....evil?" Logan thought, "it may be because you were with deceit back then, and he no longer trusts you." "But I've put deceit behind me! Why can't he realize that!" Logan rested his cold, cold hand atop of virgil's, "he will, with time." Virgil rested his head in his clawed hands, "virgil, your claws are out, why?" "I couldn't...help you. Get you out of the forest in time. And I'm sorry" "virgil, I told you, I wasn't leaving this nightmare unless you could too." Virgils claws retracted, and he smiled up at Logan, "thanks Logan." Logan rose from his chair and started off, "I will see you in the morning." Virgil smiled, "yeah, ok."
Thomas yawned and walked into the bathroom, he brushed his teeth and spat out into the sink, he looked at his reflection to see his ears pointed. He ran out of his room and to the dining room, "My ears, they're, they're..." Logan examined them, "pointed, that gives us three options, fairie, elf, or nymph." Thomas looked around, "wait, what do you mean?" Patton and Roman looked anxiously at each other, "if you stay in the forest long enough, you change. Become a creature like the rest of us." Thomas laughed, "but I become human again when I leave, right?" "We dont...know."
Anx shook his head, "I know, I left to see what had become of me, if anyone had cared, but I never made it to the town. There was a barrier at the edge of the woods. It might be different if you find out why you're here." Logan walked toward Anx, arms slightly outstretched as if to give him a hug, but backed off after he looked around. "Well, what's the plan, I have to get back, I cant just stay here the rest of my life, Remy would be devastated, so would my parents, and my friends and and and," he stopped at the cold feeling on his shoulder, "it's alright, Anx will know what to do." Logan nodded at Anx, and Anx smiled back, "alright, the plan is we go to Emile's mountain." "And what's emile?" "A mountain troll, but he's wise, and has managed to stay for centuries without forgetting what being human is like, if anyone can find you're purpose, he can." Roman laughed, "and you expect us to get to his mountain before we each disintegrate! It takes days to get to Emiles mountain," "I have tents genius, we can stay there during Morning Light." "Not to mention the full moon! We'll have to have a day off for Patton to recover." Anx waved a hand, "I have something we can pull Patton in as he recovers." Anx stalked off to gather supplies. "Nice going roman, you annoyed him more than usual this time." Roman scoffed, "no, I was only mentioning worthy worries!" Logan rolled his eyes and floated in Anx's direction.
"Hey." "Not now," "calm down virgil, I'm only here to help." Virgil turned around, "sorry, I'm just... tense." "I understand, Thomas has started to change, the full moons soon, and Roman is antagonizing you. No wonder you're tense." Logan stood in silence for a while, watching Virgil gather supplies, "why didnt you ever tell me?" "Tell you what?" "About your trip out of the Forest?" Virgil shook his head, "it..hurts." he sighed and ran a hand through his hair, "when I went, I saw two of my friends, the only people that I thought cared about me. I hid behind a tree, I was still a dragon, and I wouldn't let them see me like that. And they said, 'poor Virgil, it was only a matter of time'" he stopped to wipe a tear, "they thought I had either killed myself or ran away, and I vowed to myself I would help every Unlucky I could find, because no one deserves to have people in pain because they're stuck in this fucking forest!" He punched the wall, "I just want to help, but that idiot roman thinks I'm a villan." Logan walked towards virgil and hugged him, "so that's it, Virgil, I'm sorry you have to deal with this, but nothing was your fault, Roman stayed because deceit was sabotaging you, Patton because he loved Roman too much to leave him, and I, because I loved you too much to leave you." Virgil hugged Logan back, "but there must have been something I didnt do," "no, you did everything you could, remember that." Virgil wiped at his face, "I'm a monster." Logan smiled, "we're all monsters here."
Logan walked down, and Patton grabbed his arm, "is he ok?" Logan smiled, "hes fine patton, now get some rest, we have a long journey and you're still suffering from moon sickness." Patton grimaced, "about that, can I have some wolvesbane?" Logan smiled, "of course, let me grab some." He came back with a bundle of the flower, "now go sleep."
Patton walked into his and Roman's room, "hey roro?" Roman sat up, "yeah patton?" "Do you think you may have taken it a little to far with Anx?" "No." Patton sat on the bed, "why dont you like him?" "You know deceit?" "The naga that disappeared a few years ago? Yeah, why?" "He was working with him, and they kept me here long enough that I changed. I never forgave them for that." Patton snuggled up to Roman, "you cant hold a grudge against him forever, its not healthy." Roman pouted, "I'm aware, but deceits gone, and I cant blame him now, and it's either blame anx or myself, and I really dont want to hate myself." Patton smiled and kissed romans forehead, "I dont want you to hate yourself either, but I also dont want you hating anx." Roman smiled a little, "I'll try, my heart, now sleep, moon sickness always takes a lot out of you, and we're going on a quest tomorrow." Patton smiled, "ok my prince." Patton was out almost immediately, but Roman stayed awake into the late day.
"OFF TO OUR GREAT QUEST MY FELLOW MONSTERS AND HUMAN!!!!!" Patton sipped from his coffee, "roman, dear, I love you to death, but please be just a little bit quieter?" Roman immediately calmed down, "of course Patton, I'm sorry." There was a flap of wings and Anx landed in the dining room, "hey guys, hurry up, we've got to leave soon if we want to travel a decent distance before Morning Light." Logan nodded, "I'll go get Thomas." He floated up and to Thomas's room.
"Thomas?" Logan called out, "go away!" "Thomas we must leave." "....fine." Thomas exited the bathroom, "let's go."
The group walked, first exchanging jokes and conversation, but soon becoming too tired to do more than trudge through the forest. Finally, Morning Light came, and the exhausted group set down four tents, a purple one for Anx, a dark blue one for Logan, a red and gold one for Roman and Patton, and a green one for Thomas. Thomas, roman, and Patton quickly retired for bed, but Logan and anx sat next to the fire for a while, exchanging quiet chatter, which eventually evolved into a comfortable silence.
The first day was certainly the hardest, Pattons moon sickness slowing them down so much that they had to stop midway through the day, Patton immediately fell asleep and could not be awakened, The group set up camp once again, and awaited the transformation.
That night, all four of them sat anxiously in their tents as Patton howled and screamed, the pain of his change causing him to loose all human reason and morality. As soon as Patton, bloodstained and tired, stumbled back into the clearing, roman rushed out and dragged him back into the tent before Morning Light.
But Thomas's skin had become like wood overnight, and the trees seemed to beckon him, and he spent the day resisting the alluring call of the trees. By this point Logan knew he would become a Dryad if they didn't make it.
On the third day, they had been confronted by several creatures, the worst of which was a dragon witch, Anx had protected them, spreading his fireproof wings as protection. Roman admitted, after this incident, that Anx was not the villain he had previously thought he was.
They finally reached the foot of Emiles mountain. The mountain rumbled, and split, and a smiling personage with rock skin walked out, "Do you how do? I am Emile Picani, and I think all of you have the same question for me." The other four looked Anx, who had become the leader of their medley band of creatures, "we want to know how to go home." He said, looking the troll in the eye.
Emile smiled, "that's easy, each of you has to want to go home." Anx snarled, "I've wanted to go home for years you rocky-" he was interrupted by Emiles peaceful voice, "no, you didnt." He laughed, "you've all forgotten, I'm a wise man, and wise men know everything," he pointed at Virgil, "I know you didnt want to go home because no one missed you," at Logan, "and you thought no one respected you," roman, "and you were lonely and broken," Patton, "and you," he smiled sadly, "went into the forest looking to leave for good." Roman hugged his boyfriend, and wiped the tears threatening to spill. Then Emile pointed at Thomas, "and you wanted to leave, but you had to help them all first." The troll gathered them all in an embrace and then-
Thomas groaned, he was laying on the ground, "was it all a dream?" He whispered, looking around, but he saw four other figures on the ground. A short man wearing a cat hoodie, a coil of rope and a note resting next to him, and a tall, latino man, with a backpack next to him. On his other side was a man in a polo shirt and tie who was clutching the hand of a short man wearing a purple and black hoodie. The four of them woke up, the one in the cat hoodie waking up first and throwing the things next to him in the bushes. The one on the purple and black spoke up first, "are you guys who I think you are?" "I'm thomas." "Roman." "Logan." "Patton." Thomas interrupted the person he was pretty sure was Anx, "so it wasn't a dream, you're all real! And you must be anx" he said, turning to the man in purple and black, the man blushed, "actually, my names virgil." Logan smiled, the he and virgil realized they were still holding hands, Logan began to let go, but Virgil just held on tighter. Patton squealed, "I knew it! Roro, didnt I tell you!" Roman smiled, "yeah, you did." They were all interrupted by a voice yelling, "Thomas! Thomas! THOMAS!" Thomas jumped up, "Remy!" He ran through the bushes, the other four following, until he ran right into his enbyfriend, "remy!" "Thomas! You're alright!" They hugged him, then let go and frowned at him, "dont you EVER do that again, or I will kill you. You were gone for six days! Everyone else had given up! Hell, I was about to give up!" Thomas smiled sheepishly, "sorry, I wont do it again, also, I made some friends." Remy took a step back, "hang on a minute, they aren't serial killers right?" Thomas laughed, "of course not! Guys, come out!" The four walked out, and Remy's jaw dropped in disbelief, "Anx?" Virgil stopped dead, "Remy?"
Summary: Leon is in love, but it’s his best friend, who is already in a relationship with someone else. Someone that does not treat him the way he deserves.
(Hongice with mention of dennor)
WARNING this fic contains domestic abuse that does NOT take place between the ships and isn’t talked about in great detail but it is there so if this is triggering for you please take caution.
Imagine meeting the boy of your dreams, He acts cold at first, but really he is a giant dork. His face is adorable, all of him is really. And he is just perfect, and everytime you see him you want to hug him and kiss him and confess your undying love to him.
But you can’t. Because he is your best friend, and what makes it even worse is that he’s in a relationship with a jealous asshole. Does that sound like hell? Because it is. My own personal hell. It might have be a little easier if he has a boyfriend that isn’t a giant dick.
“Hey Em what do you want to watch?”
Emil shrugs, “I don’t really care, you choose,”
“I’ve chosen what we watched for the past few hours, come on choose something too.”
“You do realise we’ll be watching puffin documentaries, right?”
I laugh, “like we’ve never done that before, and I made you sit through that ‘say yes to the dress’ marathon’.”
“Don’t complain half way through though,” Emil smiles softly.
“Never.” I zap the channel to a puffin documentary, just when we get into a comfortable silence again Emil’s phone rings. He tenses up at the sound.
“You okay?”
“Fine… I just need to take this.” He answers the call.
I’ll give you one guess who it is.
“Hi winston…”
I can’t hear what his boyfriend says, just a faint voice.
“I told you I’d hang out with Leon today.”
He yells this time, but I still can’t make out what he’s saying.
“No, I’m not cheating on you.”
Because Emil is totally the type that would cheat. Jesus. This dude has like at least four people on the side on a regular basis. And I’m not even counting the the one night stands. SAdly I have no proof, and Emil swears Winston loves him.
“Okay… I’ll come home.”
The urge to punch Winston increases yet again.
“yes, I love you too…” He hangs up the phone.
I groan, “do you have to leave now?”
“Kinda……”
“That asshole is a control freak.”
“He just wants to spend time with me.”
“Funny how he never wants to do that whenever you’re having a bad day.”
“Leon stop.”
“Sorry, he just gets on my nerves. Do I need to take you home?”
“No I can manage.” Emil stands up, and I hate that he has to leave, why couldn’t I confess to him when I still had a chance? That dick doesn’t deserve him.
I also stand up, “I’ll walk you out.”
“Thank you.”
We both walk to the door of my apartment, he puts his coat on over his oversized sweater and zips it. “I’ll text you,” he moves to open the door.
“Don’t I get a goodbye hug?”
Emil hugs me softly and I hug him back. I wish we could stay like this forever, but I need to let him go.
“You know I’ll always be there for you right?”
He nods, “I know, I’ll see you later Leon.”
“Bye,” I wave after him as he walks out of the door.
I swear, that asshole did something to him, he’s more closed up then he used to be.
“Aren’t you hot in that? It’s like 30 degrees.” I ask Emil while I scoop frozen yoghurt into my mouth.
“It’s fine,” he says, but I can obviously see him tug at the collar of his sweater between licks from his ice cream cone.
“Is something wrong?”
Emil hesitates.
“No, why would it be?”
“You seem a little distant.”
“I just have a lot on my mind.”
Why won’t he talk to me? Aren’t we best friends? Does he not trust me anymore?”
“Like what?”
“Nothing important.”
Did I do something wrong?
“Oh… Okay”
I look around the park where we are currently on a bench eating our frozen treats. A group of guys close to us are loudly playing a game of football. Kicking and screaming, trying to get the ball in the goal.
Emil flinches slightly everytime they get a little too close or yell a little bit too loudly.
Seriously, what’s wrong, why can’t he tell me?
Emil finishes his ice cream cone and starts picking at his jeans, “can we go somewhere else?”
“Sure, where do you want to go?”
“Your place?”
“Alright,” I throw away my empty frozen yoghurt cup and stand up, “let’s go.”
We walk to the way my apartement, Emil sticks close to me, not touching me, but almost. Then I spot someone I do not want to see.
Winston.
I can’t get Emil away before he spots us, his face neutral but his eyes carry hate when they look at me. He walks to us. Emil’s face is unreadable.
“I thought I’d find you here,” Winston possessively wraps an around Emil’s waist and kisses his neck.
I feel sick.
“So what were you two doing?”
“Just getting ice cream…” Emil avoids both our eyes, leaning slightly away from Winston.
You couldn’t have gotten ice cream with me?” Winston says half jokingly but he must have tightened his grip on Emil’s waist because I can see my best friend flinch.
“Can’t a guy hang out with his best friend?” I ask Winston with a smile, he only glares back.
“I don’t see why he needs you when he has me.”
“Are your that insecure about your relationship that you get jealous of Emil spending time with me?”
Winston growls and tightens his grip on Emil’s waist so much that Emil squeaks.
Fuck.
“Please like he’d ever go for someone like you.”
Ouch, that hurts, I know Emil doesn’t like me that way, but does he need to rub it in?
“Winston…”
“What? Are you saying you would?” He looks at Emil coldly.”
“I… Um…”
Winston grabs Emil’s chin roughly and pulls him into a bruising kiss, “you belong to me,” he growls.
I hate him, I hate him, I hate him, I hate him.
“let’s just leave…” Emil starts pulling Winston away, he doesn’t even say goodbye.
“Are you wearing makeup?” I ask Emil when I really get a chance to look at his face while we wait for our orders in our favourite cafe. His face has uneven splotches of skin that look just a little darker than normal. He absentmindedly wipes at his cheek with his thumb.
“A little.”
“Why? I thought you didn’t like makeup, didn’t you tell me it was too much work and too expensive?”
“I decided to change it up a little.”
“You’re wearing the wrong shade of concealer, it’s too dark.”
“Oh.”
“Want to go to a store after thus so I can help you pick the right shade?”
“please.”
I study his face again, he looks a little different, fragile, or maybe that is just because I haven’t seen him for the last two weeks. Anytime I invited him he’d decline. He said he was sick, but he wouldn’t let me visit.
“So did you do anything interesting lately?”
“Not really, you?”
“I went to some parties, they were cool, but they would have been more fun with you.”
“I hate parties.” “I know you do, but the times you do go with me are always more fun.”
“This is more fun.” I smile at Emil, “It is, I get to spend one on one time with you.”
He blushes slightly, and if I wasn’t in love already I would fall for him right there.
“We should have a sleep over sometime.”
He fidgets with his sleeve, “I don’t think that’s such a good idea, Winston is kinda going through a though time right now, he doesn’t want me away too long.”
Is this guy even going to steal him away as my friend? Is he that selfish? How much does he want to take?
The waitress walks to our table and sets down our drinks with a smile, she winks at me and slides me a napkin with hera number on it, it must be hers, she walks away again.
“I think she likes you,” Emil stirs his coffee.
“Looks like it, I’m not really looking for anything right now tough.”
“Not even a one night stand?” he teases.
How can I possibly do that when I’m too hung up on you.
“Do I really act like the type?”
He shrugs, “you used to have them a lot.” Ah yes, my one night stand fase, back when I thought sleeping with as many people as possible would help me get over my crush. Only to realise after regretful mornings and always having Emil’s face in the back of my head, something that made me feel very guilty, that it wasn’t a crush, it was love.
And it still is.
“I’m kind of over that, it’s a little annoying to wake up and not know where your pants are.”
“I wouldn’t know.”
No, instead you are dating an ass that doesn’t treat you right.
“Be happy you don’t, it’s not much fun.”
We change the subject and finish our drinks.
Emil hasn’t contacted me in a month. He doesn’t answer my texts or pick up his phone. I haven’t seen his face for so long and I’m worried out of my mind.
I even went by his place a couple times, no one answered no matter how many times I rang the bell or knocked. The curtains were closed everytime and I don’t have a spare key.
My phone rings, and to my utter surprise the caller ID says it’s Lukas, Emil’s brother.
Why would he call me?
“Hello, this is Leon.” “Hi Leon, I’m sorry for calling you, but have you heard anything from Emil lately?”
My heart sinks, “no, I haven’t, you?”
“Not a word.”
“I’m worried.” I can hear Lukas sigh through the phone, “me too, is there anything we can do?”
“He won’t even answer the door,” I bite my lip.
“Call me when you know anything.”
“I will, please do the same.” “I promise,” Lukas ends the call.
What the hell is going on? Emil what happened to you?
I have a hangover, I thought clubbing would take my mind off of Emil, but this headache is not worth it. At least I didn’t need to look for my pants when I woke up, I don’t know how but somehow I got home last night.
I take an advil for my headache and open my fridge in search of something to eat.
Just my luck to only have a half full bottle of soda and a sandwich that has probably been there for the last couple weeks. Time to go grocery shopping I guess.
I look in the mirror and after fixing my hair a little I deem my appearance acceptable to go outside. With wallet and keys in my coat pocket I open the door. In my hungover state I almost don’t see the person sleeping against the wall across from my door, but I do.
Because how could I ever mis Emil?
He’s sound asleep, his bangs falling partly over his eyes, the right one is bruised. He looks so small and broken.
I crouch in front of him and softly pike his shoulder, trying not to scare or hurt him. But despite my care he still snaps his eyes open, fear clearly evident in them. Once he realises its me the fear disappears mostly, but I can still see tenseness in his shoulders.
“Hey Leon…”
I pull Emil into a tight hug, but pull back immediately when I hear him hiss in pain.”
“I missed you.” I want to ask him so many questions, but he probably won’t want to answer them right now, they can wait.
“I missed you too.”
“Do you want to come inside? I don’t really have much to eat but I can make you coffee.” “Coffee sounds amazing right now,” he stands up, his legs tremble a little.
I pick up the suitcase sitting next to him and take it inside, “just make yourself comfortable on the couch, if you need anything you probably know where it is.”
“Thank you,” Emil sits down on the couch, he fumbles with his sweater sleeve.
I want to strangle Winston, no one else could have done this to Emil, but I need to be there for him, right now he needs a friend, not someone punching that asshole.
I turn on the kettle and set down two mugs, instant coffee in one, a teabag in the other. once the water finished boiling I pour it into the mugs, and take them to the couch, where I sit next to Emil.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
He tugs his knees to his chest, curling into a little ball, “I guess.”
“You don’t have to.”
“I think I kind of owe you an explanation.”
“You don’t, but if you want to talk then I’m here for you.”
“Thank you,” Emil brings his cup to his mouth to take a sip of coffee, it’s still too warm and he burns his tongue.
“Hot,” he quickly takes the drink away from his mouth.
“Careful, you’re so impatient.”
“I’m thirsty.”
“Do you want some water? Or something cold for your eye? I might have some frozen peas in the freezer.”
“painkillers?” “Yeah sure,” I stand up and get Emil an advil and a glass of water. He thanks me and eagerly gulps down the water after taking the tablet.
“Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.”
“I treated you horribly, yet you’re still helping me.”
“You never treated me horribly.”
“I didn’t talk to you in over a month.”
“I think you had your reasons.”
“Kinda…”
“Do you want to talk about those reasons?”
Emil takes a deep breath.
“Winston is abusive.” “I thought so…”
“I tried to leave him, but every time…”
“It would get worse?”
He nods, I can see tears starting to form in his eyes.
“Do you want a hug?”
He nods again and leans into my chest, I carefully drape my arms over him and rub his back. The tears start flowing and he sobs.
“Ssh, it’s okay Em, I’m not going to let him hurt you again, you’re safe.”
He cries for a long time, I just hold him close, helpless. Forced to watch someone so dear to me broken apart. Emil never deserved this.
“He said he loved me,” Emil cries out between the sobs.
“If he truly loved you he wouldn’t have hurt you this way, that’s not love.”
“I know, but then why does it hurt so much?”
“I wish I knew Emil, I wish I knew.”
We sit in silence for a while, then I remember Lukas must still be worried out of his mind.
“Did you contact your brother yet?”
Emil shakes his head, “Winston took my phone.”
I hand him my phone opened on Lukas’s contact information, “use mine.” He thanks me and presses call. I can faintly hear a couple beeps before Lukas answers the call.
“Leon? Have you heard anything from Emil?” He sounds so tired and heartbroken.
“Hi brother…”
“Emil?! Oh my god I’m so happy to hear your voice! Where the hell have you been?”
“I don’t really want to talk about that now…” “Where are you right now? Are you safe?” “I’m at Leon’s place.”
“Do I need to pick you up?”
Emil bites his lip.
“You can stay as long as you like,” I tell him.
He covers the speaker on the phone, “are you sure? I don’t want to be a burden.”
I sigh, “Emil, you’ll never be a burden to me, do you want to stay?”
“I don’t want my brother to see me like this, but I don’t want to be alone…”
“Then stay.”
He nods and places the phone back to his ear, “no, I’m staying here.”
“…Okay, call me if you need me, I’ll come by sometime soon.”
“I will.”
“I love you Emil.” “I love you too Lukas.”
Emil ends the call and places the phone on the table.
“Are you okay?”
“As okay as I can be.”
“Sorry, stupid question.” “It’s fine, shows that you care.” I was going to reply but Emil’s stomach cuts me off with a loud growl.
“Hungry?”
Then my stomach growls loudly too.
“Looks like you’re hungry too.”
“Want me to get some groceries?”
“Can we go together?”
“Of course we can.”
“Just let me put some stuff on this first,” he motions to his eye. Emil gets off the couch and takes a tube of very pale concealer out of his bag, in front of the mirror he applies it using his fingers so that the bruise is mostly hidden.
Would he still need to do that if I had noticed and done something? Maybe if I had confessed we’d be preparing for a date now. Or maybe I would have lost him entirely, maybe if I had he wouldn’t be here now.
I need to stop thinking in these maybes. What’s important is that he’s here now. Out of Winston’s clutches, away from harm.
Emil turns to me, “is it still noticeable?”
“You look great, don’t worry.”
He scoffs, “great?”
“Okay not great, but have you seen my hair? No one will like at you when I have this embarrassment on my head.”
Emil smiles softly, a sight I have missed so much, “don’t be such a drama queen.”
“Are you sure you’ll let me sleep in your bed? I can take the couch instead.”
“Don’t be silly, take the bed.”
“If you keep on being this nice to me I might stay forever.”
“Be my guest, I’d love to have you here for forever.”
“I might consider it then.”
I smile at him, “you should, good night Emil.” I try to get comfy under the thin blanket on the couch.
“Good night…” I watch Emil walk into my bedroom, his puffin pajamas a couple sizes too big on him, he claims it’s comfortable.
I still can’t believe he’s back. I hope it’s not a dream, that would be the cruelest dream ever.
After a couple minutes I can hear the soft patter of feet, when I open my eyes I can see Emil’s face peeking out of my bedroom.
“I, um, don’t really want to be alone.”
“Do you want me to stay with you until we fall asleep?”
“Can we just sleep together? It’s not like we haven’t done it before and it would make me feel more comfortable.”
I smile softly, “of course we can.”
I get out from under the covers and walk the short distance to the doorway, Emil sends me a smile. We both get under the covers of my bed, he shifts closer to me and I lightly hug him to my chest. His head is laying on my shoulder so that I can feel his breathing.” “comfortable?”
Emil nods, tracing circles on my chest with his index finger. “I hated not being able to see you.”
“Probably not as much as I did.”
“I doubt it,”his face turns a little sad again.
I hug him a little bit tighter, “let’s just say we hated it the same amount.”
“Deal.” Emil closes his eyes and lets out a satisfied sigh, “I haven’t felt like this in months.”
“Like what?”
“Save, warm, happy.”
“I can’t tell if that’s sweet or sad.”
“Both?”
“Both,” I agree, and we both drift off to sleep.
We sit at the table eating cereal, it’s 1 pm. Emil had slept long, a lot longer then I had. I hadn’t wanted to wake him by moving, so I had just observed him as he slept in my arms. The bruises clear as day where his shirt rode up on his pale skin. I felt sick.
This isn’t the same Emil I once knew, not entirely, he doesn’t tease me as much, he has a wall up, but it’s not his usual coldness, this wall is crumbling with every breath he takes. His once unblemished skin is scattered with bruises and cuts and scars, some old, some newer.
He also hasn’t changed a bit, his manners are still the same, that secret soft smile I missed so much.
He’s different but the same, And I still love everything about him.
I must have been staring because Emil looks at me funnily.
“Is something wrong? You’re kind of spacing out.”
“I’m just happy to have you back.”
Emil tries to hide his blush by drinking from his coffee, but I can see that the tips of his ears are red, “I’m happy to be back.”
“Good, is there anything you want to do today?”
“Stay inside and watch shitty movies?”
“Heck yeah, I’ll order pizza for dinner.” He smiles that perfect soft smile again, “sounds perfect.”
In the middle of our third movie someone knocks on my door, it must be the pizza. I pause the movie and grab my wallet before I open the door.
Bad news, it’s not the pizza guy.
Even worse news, it’s Winston.
Please Emil, be as sociable as you always are and stay on that couch.
“Hello Wiston, how ya doing?” I want to punch him, but he’s two heads taller than me, so that might not be the best idea.
“Where is Emil? That bitch must be here, he’s cheating on me with you.”
I grit my teeth, don’t punch him Leon, he’ll break your nose, and you promised you brother you would honour kung fu and only use it for self defence.
“I don’t know, I haven’t heard from him in a while.”
“Don’t fucking lie to me.”
“he’s not here, now go away before I call the police.” I slam the door in his face and look through the peephole to make sure he leaves, he must have given up because he does.
“Was that Winston?” Emil squeaks from his spot on the couch, he’s even paler than normal and shaking.
“Yeah, but he’s gone now,” I sit back down and hug Emil, “he won’t hurt you, I won’t let him.”
Emil takes a few shaky breaths but calms down.
“Can I ask why you didn’t press charges?” “That way it’d just be easier for him t find me, and once whatever thing that keeps him away no longer applies he’ll be back and very angry.”
“That makes sense.” “And people wouldn’t really believe me.”
“What?! Why wouldn’t they?”
Emil shrugs, “abuse victims often get blamed for what happened to them.” “But you’re literally covered in evidence.”
Emil self consciously tugs his shirt down a little more, “so you saw them…”
Crap I shouldn’t have said that.
“Your shirt rode up in your sleep, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to look.”
“I hate the way my body looks now, it’s all a constant reminder of choosing the wrong guy.”
“You can’t really choose who you fall in love with.”
“It wasn’t love, not really, we just pretended. At least I did.”
“Why did you pretend?”
Emil studies his nails, “maybe we both needed a substitute.” “For what?” “Unrequited love?”
“You’re in love with someone else?”
“Kinda.” “And you didn’t tell me who,” I pout, “I feel so betrayed.”
Why can’t it be me for once?
“It’s not that important.” “I think it is.”
Emil shrugs again.
“Wait but if you didn’t love him then why did you stay?”
“I kinda got sucked into the illusion, and I was scared.”
“Understandable.”
He hides his face in my chest, “Why is love so difficult?”
“Because life is difficult?”
Emil chuckles softly, “that’s such a stupid answer.”
“I know, but I don’t really have a better one.” “Well if you ever figure it out then you need to tell me.”
I chuckle and stroke his hair, “I will.”
This time when someone knocks on the door I look through the peephole before answering it, thankfully this time it actually is the pizza guy.
“Domestic abuse?” Lukas’s mouth is open in shock. Mathias, his boyfriend, is uncharacteristically quiet. Emil keeps his eyes fix on his lap, I squeeze his hand tighter in reassurance.
Lukas and Mathias came by to check up on Emil, neither was sure what had happened to him, but they’d support him no matter what.
Emil was a little hesitant at first to tell them, afraid of his older brother judging him. But after some coaxing and me holding his hand he told us all the entire story.
I won’t give you the details, trust me, you don’t want them.
My blood is boiling, how could that ass do this to Emil? I want to scream and break stuff and punch someone, but I need to stay calm for Emil.
“Why didn’t you say anything?” Lukas asks. Emil shifts a little closer to me and shrugs.
“Do you know how worried we’ve been? We didn’t hear anything for a month!”
Mathias places his hand on Lukas his shoulder, “babe calm down.”
Lukas relaxes, “sorry…”
“I think what Lukas is trying to say is that we’re really happy you’re safe now, and we hope that next time you’ll talk to us before it escalates that much,” Mathias smiles brightly.
“I will.”
I squeeze Emil’s hand even tighter, “I won’t let it come to that.” He smiles at me and mouths ‘thank you’.
“Where does he live again? I’d like to give him a taste of his own medicine.”
“Brother no.”
“Why not?”
“You’ll only make it worse, I just want him to leave me alone.”
Lukas groans, “fine, but if he ever tries anything I’m punching him.”
“When we first met you punched me because I got the last cup of coffee before the machine ran out.”
“It was 6am on a Monday, can you blame me?”
Mathias pouts, “I gave you the coffee afterwards.”
Emil giggles softly at his brother and Mathias their banter, I smile at him, because it’s still unbelievable he’s back.
“I still can’t believe you managed to drag me into this,” Emil grumpily crosses his arms, not all too happy that I managed to drag him into a club.
“We need to let loose a little! Clubs are fun.”
“Maybe for you, but I don’t like them. And we could have had fun watching that pingu marathon at home.”
“We’ve seen all episodes at least twenty times now.”
Emil groans and tugs at his shirt collar, “at least there’s alcohol here. You can’t see anything right?”
I had managed to get him into a tight shirt and skinny jeans, we had put some makeup on the fading bruises. I could have died when he got out of the bathroom and asked me how he looked. He looks so good.
“You look amazing, don’t worry, what about me?”
He smirks, “your hair looks stupid.”
I gasp dramatically, “it does not.”
“It does, even dorkier than normal.”
“Your hair is the dorkiest,” I take a shot to mourn my hair being called dorky.
“Do you want to dance?”
Emil scowls, “you know I can’t dance.”
“I’ll teach you!”
“No.”
“Well then do you mind if I go dancing?”
“Go ahead, just don’t hook up with some random dude or chick and leave me hanging.” “I promise, shout my name if you need me.” I walk to the middle of the dance floor and start dancing, sometimes people join me, sometimes they cheer me on. It’s fun, let’s me let loose. I missed this, being careless, but my mind is still on Emil, checking every couple minutes to make sure he’s okay sometimes he sees me watching him and sticks his tongue out, I stick mine back out at him.
“Hey,” a girl flirtatiously says to me as she twirls her hair, “are you here alone?” She places her hand on my shoulder.
“No, I’m here with my friend.” She smirks, “would he care if I stole you away?”
I can‘t answer because all of a sudden my hand is grabbed by Emil as he pulls me away from the girl.
“Sorry, he’s kinda busy with me right now, go find some horny dude to fuck.”
The girl storms off annoyed.
I laugh, “what was that all about?”
“I decided to dance.”
“Alright,” I wrap my arms around his waist and he snakes his arms around my neck, we sway out of beat to the music, more like a slow dance then a club dance. I don’t care though, and neither does Emil. The club lights give colour his face, he looks breathtaking. It takes all my self restraint to not kiss him until we are both out of breath. I can’t do that to him, he’s my best friend, he trusts me.
And he’s in love with someone else.
Man, that’s still a bitter thing.
“This isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.” “If you thought it would be bad then why did you decide to dance?”
“That girl was looking at you like you were a piece of meat.”
“Aww Em, were you jealous?”
Emil scowls, but I can just make out the tiny blush creeping onto his cheeks, “why would I be?”
“Because you don’t want your glorious best friend stolen away?”
“More like protect your stupid ass from her groping hands.”
“I have an amazing ass.”
We dance more, at one point a slower song comes on and our swaying starts to actually match the beat. I’m just marveling at the fact that I’m dancing with Emil when something happens I never expected.
Lips.
Emil’s lips.
Emil is kissing me.
My eyes are wide open, his are closed.
Before I can even try to kiss back he pulls away and opens his eyes again.
“I… Um… That was a mistake.” He runs out of the club.
My brain short cuts for a couple second and I touch my lips with my fingertips.
He kissed me?
I turn into a run, out of the club, through the streets, in the distance I can see Emil going into our apartment building and I start sprinting.
When I finally enter our appartement I’m just in time to hear Emil lock the bathroom door.
Why did he kiss me? And why did he run? Am I a substitute?
I swallow my fear and knock on the bathroom door, “Emil?”
“I’m sorry,” his voice is soft, trembling.
“Can you open the door please?”
He opens the door a tiny bit, I lean against the wall so I can look him in the eye.
“Can I ask why you kissed me?”
He avoids my gaze.
“Emil?”
“I’m sorry.” I sigh and drag my hand over my face, “Emil please answer the question instead of apologising.”
“Because I wanted to…”
“Am I a substitute?” I hate to ask this, but I have too. I know he’d never use me like that, but there’s still that fear in the back of my mind.
“No! Why would you think that?”
“Winston was.”
Emil closes his eyes, “I can’t really talk myself out of this without making myself look bad, huh,” he sighs, “I might as well tell you the truth.”
“What truth?”
“That I’m in love with you, and have been for a long time. I started dating Winston because I thought you’d never like me back, it was nice at first, but I once he started to realise I had more eyes for you than him he started to get abusive.”
Does that make it my fault?
“And then I got away, and you were the only one I could think of running too, and you let me stay here, cared for me. Meanwhile I keep hoping that something might happen between us, that you’ll care for me like I care for you.” He’s in love with me?
“I know it’s hopeless, and I kind of took advantage of you.”
With me? Emil? In love with me?
“I guess that girl made me jealous and I couldn’t help myself and stuff happened.”
He’s in love with me.
Tears start to roll of Emil’s cheeks, he looks me in the eye, “please say something.”
“You love me?”
He nods.
“Emil please get out of the bathroom.”
He opens the door fully and steps out.
“I’ll go get my stuff…” He tries to get past me to the bedroom but I pull him into a tight hug before he can.
“Leon?”
“I love you too.”
Emil clings onto my shirt, “you do?”
“I have for a very long time.”
We look at each other.
“So what are we now?” Emil asks.
“What do you want to be.”
“I don’t know…”
I kiss his forehead, “then take your time to figure it out, I’ll wait.”
“You will?”
“I’ve waited a very long time, and I pretty much gave up hope, I can wait as long as you want me to, because now I know that you love me like I love you.”
“You’re a dork.”
“I know, hopefully I can be your dork.”
“Aren’t you already?”
“Do you want me to be?”
“Yes.” “Then yes I am.”
Chapter 12
On Wednesday morning, Remy glided about the kitchen. Soft music played through his phone, amplified by the glass it had been placed in - a trick Logan had taught him. Chai sat on her cat tree, tail swishing as she watched him.
Just as Remy finished packing the picnic basket, the door opened. Emile gave him a radiant smile, making her way into his open arms.
“Happy anniversary.” She leaned up, giving him a quick kiss.
Remy raised an eyebrow before kissing Emile again, a little deeper than the one he’d just received. He couldn’t help but grin at the gasp she let out. “Five months. It feels like it’s been so much longer.”
“It feels like a lifetime.” Peeking over his shoulder, Emile spotted the basket. “You didn’t have to pack by yourself.”
“I wanted to.” Reaching out, Remy grabbed the basket. With his other hand, he intertwined their fingers. “Shall we?”
A shy smile crossed Emile’s face. She grabbed Remy’s phone out of the cup, waving it in the air. “Don’t you want this?”
“Shit, yeah.”
Before Remy could reach for it, Emile slipped it into his back pocket. “There you go!”
He flushed as she grinned at him, slowly dragging him toward the door.
They headed to the park, making their way to the top of one of the hills. A single tree stood at the top, providing them with just enough shade to cool off.
Emile laid out the blanket, smoothing it down completely before allowing Remy to put the basket down. He watched as she moved, something so fluid about her movements. If he had his way, they’d go on picnics every day for the rest of their lives.
“Rem?”
He blinked out of his stupor, finding Emile looking at him curiously from the blanket, her pink skirt smoothed out around her. “Hmm?”
“You gonna sit?”
He sat next to her, easily slipping an arm around her waist. Setting the basket in front of them, he asked, “Did you wanna eat now or just chill for a bit?”
“Let’s chill.” She said, just a tad too quickly.
Biting his lip, Remy’s thoughts swirled. Should he ask, or would that just make her upset? Something was clearly bothering her.
“Em-”
She slid into his lap, pressing a finger to his lips. “I don’t wanna talk about it. Not yet.”
“Okay. When you’re ready, I’m here to listen.”
A soft smile made Emile seem as though she was absolutely shining from the inside out. “Thanks.”
“I love you.” Remy breathed, pulling Emile just a bit closer.
She linked her arms around his neck, smile widening. “I love you too.”
The two exchanged a few lazy kisses before laying back, watching the clouds go by.
“That one looks like a ghost.” Emile said as she pointed.
Remy smiled. “Someone call Danny Phantom.”
A giggle poured out of Emile, filling Remy’s heart with so much love that he thought it would burst.
Damn, he really was a disaster bi.
After a little while watching the clouds, Remy heard Emile’s stomach growl. He gently sat the two of them up, reaching for the picnic basket.
Only for his arm to be grabbed by a slim wrist.
“Wait.”
He sat back, waiting for her.
She took in a deep breath before staring at the blanket. “I - I have this...thing. With food. Um...there’s certain things I can’t - that I won’t eat because of the texture.”
Seeing her so upset had Remy wanting to fight anything that could ever hurt her, however unrealistic that would be. “I packed a lot of stuff because I wasn’t sure what you liked. How about we look through and see if anything is good for you, otherwise we’ll go to a restaurant instead.”
“But you worked so hard!”
Remy spun Emile into his lap once more, linking their fingers together. “Em. Nothing means more to me than your happiness. I was dancing around my kitchen making this stuff this morning because I knew you were so happy to go on a picnic. If making you happy means not eating the picnic food, then that’s completely fine with me. Besides, I can give it to Pat and Lo or something, I’m sure they’d love it.”
A few tears dripped down Em’s face. “You’re too good to me.”
“Never.” Remy kissed the tears away. “Shall we?”
Emile turned around, remaining on his lap as she opened up the picnic basket. She started pulling out what Remy had packed. There wasn’t any indication that she liked or didn’t like anything until she turned around, a huge grin on her face.
“These are all of my favorite foods!”
Letting out a sigh of relief, Remy nuzzled into her neck. “I’m glad.”
A loud crunch had him looking up to a sheepish Emile, who was already eating some sour cream and onion chips.
“I guess someone’s hungrier than they thought.” He teased, pecking her cheek before grabbing his own food.
A comfortable silence settled over them as they ate, broken only by the crunch of chips and the cries of the birds nearby. Orange flickered in their vision as a monarch butterfly landed in the dandelion patch to their left.
The butterfly took off in a panic as a puppy popped into view. The fluffy creature dove into Emile’s lap. She caught it in surprise, holding its collar and petting it.
“Shhh, it’s okay.”
“Oh, thank goodness!” A voice called out. A young girl no more than thirteen came running, their breathing panicked as they arrived. “I thought she was going to keep running and - I thought I was going to lose her forever!”
Emile reclipped the leash the girl was holding, making sure it was secure before handing the puppy back. “Hey, she’s back with you now. What’s her name?”’
“Lillipup, but I call her Lilli.”
A loud squeal left Emile. “You named her after a Pokemon?!”
“I love Pokemon!” The girl shot Emile a grin. A shout from behind her made her turn. “I gotta go know, but it was nice meeting you ma’am! You too sir!”
She disappeared down the hill, the puppy securely in her arms. When Emile turned around, there were tears in her eyes. “She called me ma’am!”
“You’re obviously a ma’am.” Remy pulled her in by the waist, nuzzling their noses together. “You’re my ma’am.”
“I love you.”
“And I love you.”
