The action wasn't planned. It wasn't even something his mind registered, not until the aftermath. In hindsight, however, at least in the privacy of his mind, Morty had to admit that his act hadn't been as shocking as it had seemed. Not anymore, at least.

Once upon a time, the idea that he might have left a finger to help Meg, with anything, was unthinkable. These days things were undeniably different. They got along better. They were sort of romantically involved. She was his official girlfriend.

All that considered, was it so surprising that he felt like he should protect her, purposefully or on instinct? He didn't think so, even if he would have never admitted it.

They were out together, on his Citadel, alone, save for his Rick, but the man was as quiet as a shadow, so it was almost as if he hadn't been there. They had stopped to get something to it from one of the food trucks that sold street food at the ongoing festival. A quite normal date, especially for their standards.

It all had happened so quickly. One moment Meg was reaching out to take the plate the Rick handling the truck had prepared for her, and one second later some Morty had rushed out of the crowd, heading straight towards her and yelling. What, exactly, the president hadn't fully grasped it, but he sounded like a fanatic super fan. He did have a certain crazy look in his eyes.

Not that any of that had mattered to Morty. He knew what Meg thought about people getting creepy or handsy with her, and the assaulter obviously had all the intentions of doing at least that. Probably worse, if given the chance. So, he had acted, without thinking or hesitating.

He smoothly stepped in front of the girl, easily intercepting the attacker. He twisted his arm behind his back and forced him on his knees, pressing him down on the ground. His other hand pulled out the laser knife he always carried with him and stabbed the Morty through the skull, killing him on the spot.

As the body fell on the ground, Morty put away the weapon and straightened his jacket, checking that no blood had gotten on it. Then he turned towards Meg, as if nothing had happened.

"Let's continue. Rick will take care of the mess."

It had been an outing like any other they'd had in the past. One of their more casual dates. Meg more known for getting a drink with the boy or a classy dinner. So it was a nice change of pace. The feeling in the air was one of comfort. She felt at ease when she went to grab her offered food. That's why the sudden attention from the creepy morty threw her off. It all happened so fast she didn't have time to act or respond.

She hadn't expected any action from her other boyfriend. If anyone was gonna step in besides herself she expected it to be his rick. Mortimer making the move himself was a shock. Not to mention due to how this morty was, how he was displaying creepy and obsessive behavior it felt like he was punishing the boy.

Killing him for even daring to touch what was his. As if he even had a chance. It also felt like a message to other mortys to don't touch what belonged to the president. Once the first lady got past her shock. Blinking in succession she couldn't help but feel romantically elated.

Gazing at her boyfriend with nothing but admiration and a lovestruck look in her eyes. She tried to play off her feelings. Casually grabbing the food once the ordeal was over. Taking a bite of her burrito before taking out her phone.

Quickly snapping a picture of the corpse. Getting some close ups of his fatal injury. That was going in her murder album. So she'd look back on this day with fondness. It was then she hummed in contentment. Giving mortimer a quick peck on the cheek before linking arms with him. "I think you made the right decision mortimer. Can't have creepy mortys getting the idea that just anyone can touch me. Only the president can." She spoke affectionately her hold on him a touch more firm. "I'm yours aren't I?"
