Dressing my sister for her Wedding! . Dressing my sister @ayushikejriwal for her big day was fun and very challenging in equal parts. She got married twice once in a South Indian style and the second time in the North Indian way. For her evening north Indian wedding it was clear that she wanted to wear a red lengha. I decided to go very traditional and style her in a Rajputani lengha which is worn with just one dupatta. It took me around 7 months to get her lengha made, the biggest challange was to get the right shade of red, we had to dye the silk 8 times to achieve the colour that I was happy with. I decided to go for big life size hand embroidered butas for the skirt and a jacket style blouse, the aim was to create a garment that my sister could use in various ways. Her skirt, her blouse, her jacket and her duppata can be styled in multiple ways and she will be able to create numerous looks. The gold work on her lengha was achieved by dying the sequins and washing them to create the antique rustic colour, I did not want it to be shiny. I styled her in custom made Rajputani jewellery and a very bold head piece. Styling my sister for her South Indian Wedding . I made her a beautiful pomegranate coloured and gold kanjiveram silk saree with an embroidered border and a contrasting mango yellow and red blouse. The jewellery was made with kemp stones in gold and in shades of green and meroon. I did a lot of research to make sure I got all the elements of her look right, for instance the styling of her hair ; the waistband , the flowers, the nose pin and the bangles. I wanted to add my signature touch but at the same time make sure she looked like a traditional South Indian Bride. STYLING #Ashaji for the Malayalam wedding (Swipe to see more) . My Mum was adamant that she would only wear an ivory and gold kanjiveram silk saree. I styled her with a brocade benarsi silk blouse and traditional temple jewellery with a mogra gajra. For her make up I just enhanced her eyes, with some blusher and a dark lipstick. I am sure it won’t come as a surprise to anyone when I say that I designed and styled my sister’s @ayushikejriwal ‘s dulha @sudhishsunder for their wedding functions. I decided to go for a light colour palate including gold, ivory and teal. My mother #Ashaji had old real zari bootas that she wanted me to incorporate in the sherwani. We decided to go for a chicken work kalidar with a long embroidered heavy jacket along with a dupatta. The only accessory that I used whilst styling is a pearl neckpiexe and a Polki kalangi. It took me around 2 months to get the whole outfit embroidered. Designing the venue for the South Indian Wedding ( Swipe to see more) . Turning a concrete terrace and a banqueting hall of a hotel into a venue appropriate for a Malayalam style wedding in the blistering heat of Kolkata to accommodate for 200 people is not easy! I wanted to ensure that the venue looked like it was hosting a South Indian wedding without it looking staged. Using the tikka as the main backdrop and the green gota patti marque helped in making the terrace look more inviting. For the formal sit down lunch I decided to use the wooden panels in the banquet halls as the main feature, lots of lemons were hung from the celing with long genda garlands. Big banana leaves were placed all around the table to give it a dramatic feel. I have never been to a South Indian wedding so it made this task very difficult.
