To reveal the truth behind the Shadow Forest's legends, the heir must rise.
There are those that tell stories about the legends of the Shadow Forest, of magical waters that grant your deepest desires, and of times long ago when ancient sorcerers wielded unnatural power.
After the death of her family and the appearance of strange physical changes she cannot explain, seventeen-year-old Nyla begins to wonder if she might be cursed with magic herself. Without a home and longing for the family she’s lost, Nyla retreats into herself.
But when her new plan for answers brings her to a crossroads with a fellow traveler named Xander—whose own painful past is also a mystery—Nyla must decide if she can trust a stranger. But even if she can learn to trust, could her very connection to Xander place them both in peril? With an ominous force gaining power in Nyla’s homeland, she must choose how far she is willing to go to find answers when not only her fate—but possibly all of Tenebris—depends on it.
Fire & Flight is Brianna R. Shaffery’s debut novel and the first novel in the epic young adult fantasy trilogy, Heirs of Tenebris.
In your Red Knight AU, do you think the rest of the family set up a betting pool on who confess first?
More questions! Yay!
Okay, I did answer a question like this on ao3, so here's the answer:
Sam: Has bet that they literally will not confess until one or both is on the brink of literal actual final death
Tucker: Bet that Jason will confess first (he knows his best friend. He does. Which is why he is not betting on him)
Jazz: Did not place bets, thats so wrong!
She bet on Jason confessing on accident first. Then, him trying to cover it up and brush it off, then panicking and throwing together a novel worthy date in under an hour to 'officially make his intentions known'.
The ghosts have not placed bets because none of them actually see anything wrong with the pining. When dealing with immortal beings, their concept of how long it is appropriate to pine (or court) is skewed. For them its basically been like. A week. They also all still see them as 🥺bebes🥺 and don't really fully compute them actually dating and things.
YAY second art dump! this is my jellywalker apoc au design stuff the actual blog for it is here though go look !!!!!!!! Anyway yay my design for eternal sugar since she (they/she) has a Lot of plot relevance (as do the other beasts) :] she is my favourite beast i love them very much

“he was permanently condemned to hell.” if you hear screaming and crying don’t worry it’s just losing my GODDAMN FUCKING MIND. OH MY GOD. KAEYA WITH RELIGIOUS TRAUMA HITS DIFFERENT. IT HITS SO SO DIFFERENT.
okay so with the blue blood thing we can just be like you aren’t fully divine yet so the blood doesn’t turn blue until. idk you die and ascend or whatever. that’s the excuse i use in my brain!
i interrupted myself. anyways. imagine if kaeya was the one to kill you. when he recounts your death, he has allll the grisly details of how you were pinned to the ground by a sword in your throat, almost the same way you’d pin a butterfly to a board. he smiles as he recalls the way your blood spilled onto the ground and the light faded from your eyes. for a moment, he even scoffs at the tears on your cheeks, remnants of the way you’d cried and begged.
and then he gets the news, and it turns out that he truly cannot do anything right. he tries to be honest and loses his family. he tries to redeem his home and dooms himself. he doesn’t bother praying for forgiveness - no matter how kind and understanding everybody said you were, there’s no way you’d forgive a sinner with your blood on his hands.
me when kaeya. when he. him. he’d be so guilty and fucked up post-imposter and i think it adds to his appeal heart emoji - teddy anon
i did NOT mean for it to be religious trauma but. you have a point.
if we follow my headcanon about the blue blood—that it’s swirly like a galaxy, representative of your power—then it makes sense it manifests alongside your power, and if you blur some lines and squint we can work with that.
anyway i do think kaeya should be the one to kill (that sounds bad) and you. your words man you are so good at this-
he probably wouldn’t pray. and i don’t think, other than the first night getting blackout drunk, that he’d drink, as a form of self-punishment. no, he needs to be awake and sober to truly live through his crimes, for he would only condemn himself more with liquor.
kaeya that stops worshipping at altars or attending service, simply because he doesn’t believe that somebody like him should be in such a holy place. he never takes shifts at the cathedral, and he always takes point on the bloodiest missions. not out of enthusiasm—the sight of blood, even red, now makes him a bit sick—but out of a form of sacrifice. why put blood on innocent hands when he, somebody already sunk to the lowest of hells, can take it?
did anyone else get the larissa cambusano x eternal embers box/any of the books?!?! i got binding 13 and keeping 13 and they’re about to be my most prized possessions 🥹

I just woke up from the wildest dream that like half the GAR got kidnapped by some sorcerer that looked like Reta Repulse from the power rangers using some hive mind mind control magic because she wanted to take over this dimension and the realm of magic to control the universe. And like because half their army was just up and gone all republic military operations were nearly brought to a completely hault, Sidious was pissed because some other evil magic lord is one uping him and stole his army. So guided by a quadruple headed snake, a dream keeper?, a knight of Avalon and the ghost of She-ra Mera Rex set out on a quest through the multiversal realms to find the Embers of Eternity and rescue everyone and stop this lady. This dream was wild but the idea of like half the gar getting kidnapped by some third party and used against the republic and their brothers against their will is kind of a compelling plot line.
Some spoilers for Dragonflight Patch 10.1: Embers of Neltharion.
I decided to go through The Vow Eternal again to see if it'd read differently knowing how the story shakes out in Embers of Neltharion and I realized there are so many references to Wrathion wanting to be an Aspect or trying to act like he will be that it's kind of depressing lol
Overall I still really like the story and how Wrathion is portrayed...but this ending definitely doesn't hit as hard knowing that most of the in-game story to follow will be all about why he's unfit for the role and basically not a great individual.
It's like er, sorry, Wrathion, you actually won't find kinship and a home on the Dragon Isles. In fact you're going to immediately be at odds with pretty much everyone including both of your brothers, whom you will fight with and belittle...constantly. And you'll be so lost in your drive to ascend to this position you now think you're "owed" that it'll undo the progress you've made and the character development you've undergone from spending your entire life trying to prepare for this responsibility.
So I...uh don't how we're supposed to revisit and interpret this short story now. Is this like another unreliable narrator/biased perspective kind of thing where we, the readers, are supposed to recognize that Wrathion is being arrogant and delusional here. Are we supposed to look at his flaws, like the alcoholism, his discomfort at the wedding, his arrogance, loosing his temper, all of which I still like and think make his character more interesting, and go "oh, clearly this is all more evidence for why he shouldn't be Aspect"?
I don't think that would be as much of a disappointment if Dragonflight dealt more with Wrathion's personal struggle over all this, if it seemed like learning this about himself was the point or that the story was going this way with him for a reason, but as it is, it just seems like the reason is that the narrative has to knock him down a peg or twenty for the purpose of making Ebyssian the obvious choice.
I think how this whole thing resolves, how Ebyssian becomes Aspect and how Wrathion handles this, will matter a lot. Lately I've been starting to wonder "oh, god, how far is this going to go? Are they going to make him have a fit or something when Sabellian and the rest of the black dragonflight side with Ebyssian and storm off like he did in MoP?" But if this ends up being a personal reckoning for him that leads to some character development and we get BfA Wrathion back for a bit, that would be something.
In retrospect, it's also a little funny that Ebyssian wasn't in this story at all, not as Wrathion's plus-one or at the end when all of the dragons travel to Wyrmrest to answer the call of the isles. He's not even mentioned once. Like a good chunk of this short story is dedicated to Wrathion observing and interacting with other characters in a way that seems designed to get readers back up to speed with who's who in Azeroth's main cast. You'd think they would've wanted to at least remind readers about Wrathion's known brother, too, if he was going to play such an important role in the expansion lol Not to mention that he is Wrathion's one known family member and there are so many references to Wrathion feeling lonely or being the "only" member of his dragonflight. This also would've probably been a really good time to mention if Wrathion and Ebyssian's relationship, which seemed really good at the end of BfA, had become strained or if their personalities were already clashing.
