I got an email today saying they're starting a Swiftie Club at work and I really don't have any strong opinions about Taylor Swift but damn if it got me out of doing my actual job for an hour or so every month I could be a fan I could be a Swiftie for that

Hey guys! I just opened my Substack account for the first time in months and realized there's been a ton of activity since The Woman in White Weekly ended. Just wanted to ask here if there's any interest in seeing it re-run this year?
Last year's run began at the end of July, so if there's a decent level of interest I can absolutely set things up to start again this summer.

After Great Expectations: Our Next Novel
Tumblr media
Poll Time
We’re nearing the end of Great Expectations, with only just over a month to go, so it’s high time we decide what our next project will be. Make your voice heard at the poll here: https://forms.gle/tWD2F6y5AHnmRyZV8
The voting will close on July 4th 2023.
The options are as below, as these are the only novels which will keep the wait between novels to six months or under.
Dombey and Son (October 1856/2023 to April 1848/2025)
Little Dorrit (December 1855/2023 to June 1857/2025)
Martin Chuzzlewit (January 1843/2024 to July 1844/2025)
Barnaby Rudge (February 1841/2024 to November 1841/2024)
Read synopses for all of these in the poll. It may help your decision to take note of how long we will be waiting between novels, as well as how long the serialisation will last.
During the Hiatus
Depending on which novel wins the poll, there may be a long wait between books. Plans are currently being hatched, but to keep you sated during this time we will try to send out some of Dickens’ short stories.
If the wait covers the Christmas period, we may also send out one of his Christmas novellas, though perhaps not A Christmas Carol, as others may be organising this.
Go forth and vote!
Or, if you haven’t done so yet, sign up here!

I think I've figured out the reason I've struggled with keeping up with or following many of the other 'boom daily/weekly/bimonthly/etc.' emails that I've tried, gotten, and have let stack up in the 'Saved/Literature' folder of my albatross like a looming tower of unread messages haunting me.
It's the community engagement thing.
I had fun reading Dracula and then talking about it and posting about it with other people. The desire to know other's thoughts and keep up with the jokes and memes, the desire to be one of the cool kids and make posts about the book we were all reading, that kept me on track. The other ones? I'm sure there's people doing that same thing for Frankenstein Weekly and the emails from Watson that talk about Sherlock's adventures, but it's not as obvious and as numerous. So it's not quite as fun and engaging to get chapters or sections of a thing in the mail, if that makes sense.
(literally the only one I do read as soon as it comes in is Periodic Pride and Prejudice, because I love that story and will always reread it no matter the format.)
On the other side, it HAS made me more interested in engaging with the print versions of these stories, so there's that...but it goes to show that book clubs really are fun and stimulating, a good way to make friends and meet people and read a new thing and just have a good time.
Shame they're not so easy to engage with and find in offline/real life. We tried doing a book club with my occasional in person DND group and it didn't really work.
... maybe the library has book clubs. That seems like an obvious fit.
