Mohamadreza (Hasam) Ferdowsi, age 24, set himself on fire outside of Gharchak Mosque while chanting "Death to Khamenei". He died in Tehran's Motahari hospital after with more than 70% burns.
Before he did this, he made a post on Instagram saying: "Hoping for better days. My people. I love you. This heart is for the person who gave me hope for this life. Long live Iran. Long live life."
Authorities have put a lot of pressure on his family to remain silent, so we have to be their voices now. Don't let his sacrifice be in vain. Spread his story.

NHS protest & survive strategies for reluctant activists (England). I am angry and writing stuff down.
●Write to your MP (tory) saying a polite version of "stop being stealthy little shits we see what your doing & we've already paid in our taxes" , if (labour) write a polite version of "speak up against the degrading of what we've already paid for in committee stages and in H of L". Do write not email, do visit constituency offices briefly & politely saying that the nhs service to help (pick a category) is worse in your personal experience . This raises stats and the issue of expenditure at the MPs office, giving the MP the feeling of their (publicly available) voting record will have effects on their reelection prospects and makes them nervous about just supporting businesses in the area who are incoming splinters off the nhs area funding * because you see and notice what your MP is actually effectively doing on this issue*. ● Support strikes by combatting the idea that strike removal laws have any place in modern societies in conversation to combat the facebook bilge, and question the idea that three twelve hour shifts a week makes efficient use of trained staff. Question the removal of training bursaries. ●Most important of all combat conversations that say strikers are just after money. Its the work conditions they want improving. ● American style health insurance doesnt cover most stuff because what they call "pre existing' is what the rest of the world calls medical history. European style health insurance says we charge you a trivial data entry fee like two coffee price AFTER treating you zero payment by the way have you cut smoking down and what is your employer doing to reduce workplace hazards.... ● Place blame on Westminster govt political ideology choices by saying in conversation reply like "public money straight into private companies thats a bit (pick slur appropriate to the group youre in) OI THATS MY MONEY "= theyll think about their own money...
●● Register to vote, group with like-minded ppl for emotional support (protesting is by definition going against a larger group) speak when safe and be charming when you announce that you have observed their behaviour. The illusion that you are their sort of people who see and dislike their specific choices makes their ego worried and that is the best way to get these bullies to change. Know your enemy by name and get local facebook groups to be polite persistant and public community representative = "we see you've done x and are talking about x+1 and we think this is already harmful " is more effective than "help (underfunded group)". Cut off funding cuts as the excuse, youre involved in tweaking and directing funding which makes them immediately say nothing about who deserves or not deserve. ● if your group encounter fascists in charge by accident withdraw and regroup for a wider block counter. Be the better person at a distance to stay safe and protest again. Dont go it alone, act as a group.
■Take photo ID along to vote. Yes this is England, but watch out for this change. It is worth voting. Dont wait for the next big election. The NHS is in trouble right now.

if you aren’t able to protest or donate, please email local government and your state representatives. it’s free, it doesn’t put you at risk of exposure, and if you’re worried about retaliation you can create an additional email through Gmail or other free providers. if you have been donating, protesting, and/or signing petitions, PLEASE continue to do so, and do this as well!!
please please please- this is so important. we need to make good on the conversations we have with family and friends, the posts we share for resources and awareness. i know many of us have some extra free time due to semesters ending, jobs being remote, etc.
if you haven’t been wanting to post on social media, be physically present at a rally, donate money, or sign petitions, or maybe just don’t know where to start - EMAIL YOUR LOCAL GOVT AND STATE REPRESENTATIVES.
personalized emails you write yourself won’t be caught by filters searching for the same message templates - use templates online as a reference, or even just one line stating your support of Black Lives Matter, holding cops accountable, defunding the police in favor of other government sections like education and public mental health.
civil rights isn’t pretty, or trendy, or something that necessarily feels good to post/see posts about especially as white people who have never felt oppression like Black, Indigenous, People of Color. it’s not fun. but our discomfort is nothing compared to the hatred, discrimination, violence committed against BIPOC. it’s a lot, learning all of this information and processing it. but honestly? we should have all started a long time ago, even before peaceful protests by Kaepernick. we’ve had all this time to learn and yet we’ve refused to until now, and even now some of us are holding back.
but this is important. this is change. change long overdue. and we as white people need to do more than sit and ponder racism, or talk about it once with family. while we do need to evaluate our biases and communicate with our friends and family on this issue, we should also be putting in the effort for action.
i’ve made multiple christian friends since 2016. i’ve noticed silence especially from this group. if you truly claim to follow Christ and love thy neighbor, you need to support and love your Black neighbors, Indigenous neighbors, neighbors of color. Jesus didn’t just have conversations with people of the same backgrounds and mindset as him, he took action. and when he faced repercussions? he accepted them, because he knew what he did was right. can you say the same? are you truly walking a path towards a more Christ-like life if you are not standing with Black brothers, sisters, and siblings as they are being killed?
don’t stay silent. silence or “staying away from politics” on your page or accounts shows that you have the privilege to choose to care about oppression and other people. if you’re still posting your typical content, but won’t share resources because it’ll look bad or you don’t want to be political on your page- think of how you’re able to stay silent because the oppression doesn’t affect you. you have safety, privilege to ignore it. but you shouldn’t. you should care about this. would any of you willingly choose to be treated the way BIPOC are treated today? no, you wouldn’t. we all want safety, and we should stand together to ensure that for all of us. if you stay silent, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.
don’t just have one conversation with other white people and then call it a day. having conversations at home didn’t save the Jewish from persecution and genocide. it won’t help Black people either. do more, i know we all can. we have to, we need to.

There is no such thing as too much or too little you can do for Iran right now. Talk to your friends, tell your family - mainstream news is barely covering this, and people without social media are unlikely to know much. Sign and share petitions, create and promote content, do not stop talking. Write to your local parliament, and attend protests in your area. If you don't have any, see how you can get involved in organizing them. From what I understand US sanctions make it impossible to donate money, though.
This is overwhelming for everyone, but we owe it to the people of Iran to not close are eyes now. They don't have the luxury of ignorance. We must be their voices while they're being silenced. We can't let the world forget them.
If all you can do is share, do that! Do that! Don't underestimate how much the smallest things help, and remember that anything is better than silence.

Do you ever feel like your government is actively working to institute a theocracy right under your very nose, and all anyone can seem to do is tweet? (I’m not knocking the art of the well-placed tweet, by the way. Case and point the account pictured above.)
Here’s what’s going on in my part of the world, which is Alberta (Commonly known as the bible belt of Canada):
The recently elected UCP (United Conservative Party #UnderHisEye) has, by its inaction, effectively canceled a work group dedicated to eradicating the insidious and abusive practice of “reparative” therapy for LGBT+ persons. Minister of Health Tyler Shandro has claimed on twitter that he told the group they were welcome to continue meeting. However, according to Emma Graney of the Edmonton Journal, his office released a statement that “The working group has disbanded with the change in govt.” AKA, they’re pretending the group (which included a survivor of conversion therapy) doesn’t merit focus because conversion therapy/torture “doesn’t happen here.”
If you dig a little deeper, you’ll see this simply isn’t true. Of course, nobody is coming right out and calling their services conversion therapy. That would be bad PR. The practice is couched in the language of soul-searching, healing trauma, and respecting individual faith. Alberta survivor Kevin Schultz was undergoing private faith-based counseling to realign his sexual orientation as late as 2007. Journey Canada, formerly Living Waters, which claims to help folks “experience Jesus in their sexuality” (kinky?) still operates across Canada.
If anyone is in doubt, the Human Rights Campaign and the Canadian Psychology Association can shed light on why conversion therapy/counseling of any kind is deeply damaging and can even be life-threatening.
The previous NDP government at least gave the appearance of caring about the LGBT community. The UCP gives the appearance of wanting to give the appearance of caring. In any case, I kind of wonder, why not just oh I don’t know BAN CONVERSION THERAPY AS IF WE WERE A CIVILIZED 21ST CENTURY SOCIETY? The UCP certainly hasn’t shied away from taking bold action on controversial issues (eg. lowering minimum wage for minors like a bunch of literal cartoon Scrooge McDucks).
This conversion therapy fustercluck is one move in an alarmingly swift series of policy change plans the UCP has begun rolling out since April of this year. They have also pledged to remove key protections afforded to GSA’s (Gay-Straight Alliances, common “safe space” organizations for LGBT students found in secondary schools). This means teachers could, at their own discretion, be permitted to notify parents if their child joins a GSA. This would obviously defeat the whole purpose of GSA’s and put children at greater risk of abuse at home.
When urged to consult experts on why this was such a monumental mistake, and questioned about the purpose of his party’s decision, premier Kenney had this to say:
"I think it would be very rare [for parents to be notified]," Kenney said. "Probably only [when] dealing with very young kids or kids with unique emotional and mental health challenges."
AKA, he has no idea what the repercussions could be and is speaking in “likelihoods” like some kind of fiendish gremlin under a bridge, desperate to grant you three wishes whose loopholes will ruin your life. (PS: Back in 2006 Kenney bragged about working to repeal a spousal law that allowed gay men to visit their dying partners in the hospital during the AIDS crisis. So that’s the attitude we’re dealing with here.)
If you’re curious about what other draconian policies the UCP has lurking just around the corner you can read up on their full platform, which includes such gems as scrapping the carbon tax, pausing the K-12 curriculum review, pushing for more private health care options, and something ominously called the “climate war room.”
If you, like me, are having some serious Handmaid’s Tale flashbacks right now, you’re not being overdramatic. The erosion of minority and women’s rights at the hands of backsliding democracies worldwide is not some fad. It’s a real thing that is happening all around us while shiny apps are being pelted at us as a distraction.
So let’s move on to what can actually be done. Before I list some ideas, I want to cover a few key points. We’re often advised, as constituents of a district or riding, to take action by writing to our political representatives! Here’s why I think that’s a waste of time: the current political climate is extremely polarized. It’s a buzzword because it’s true. If your MLA is conservative, and you write them a letter urging them to see things your bleeding-heart liberal way... well, why would they care? You’re not even a part of the voter base they’re targeting, and they know it. They don’t need your support. Alberta voters skew overwhelmingly right-wing already.
My advice is to follow the money.
A PAC (Political Action Committee) is an organization that pools campaign contributions from members and donates them to campaigns for or against candidates or legislation. Shaping Alberta’s Future is a PAC whose stated aim is to promote a conservative Alberta with Kenney at the helm. In 2018, they raised a whopping $170,000 in two weeks to fund UCP ads. Their financial disclosure documents are pretty lengthy and can be confusing if you don’t know what you’re looking for. That’s why I’ve broken down the info into a list of the major 5-figure contributors, all (you’ll be bowled over with shock to learn) men, most of them members of the Motor Dealership of Alberta for some reason.
For those of us who live in Alberta/Canada, that means we can do the following:
HERE is a link to a form letter addressing major donors to Shaping Alberta’s Future, politely urging them to bring matters of LGBT youth safety to the government’s attention.
HERE is a link to a list of specific donors, their contact information, and contribution amounts. This info can be filled into the indicated sections on the above letter.
Simply print, sign, and mail the letters to the addresses provided. Postage should be fairly inexpensive but if it’s an issue, take a photo of your signed letter and Canada Post receipt and I’ll etransfer you the value of your postage (within reason, guys!). If you can’t access Google drive, I’ll copy the letter to you by whatever method you prefer.
If you’d like to add information to the above list, or offer a correction, please message us or email [email protected].
Additional things you can do (from anywhere):
Spreading the word always helps. Set up an email list or reddit thread. If you’re Albertan, print ten extra letters and ask a few friends to sign them. Pride month is just around the corner: bring a sheaf of letters with you to a parade and throw them in the air like confetti. (You’ll probably get some free condoms for your trouble; nice!)
Donations are not possible for everyone but if they’re possible for you, Youthsafe.net has a list of organizations that could use your support.
Stay vigilant. Read full articles covering both sides of the issues you’re investigating, and investigate in turn the veracity of your sources. Read posts from people you don’t agree with and, as infuriating as it is to have your person-hood invalidated by pseudo-scientific doctrine, pause to digest other points of view before formulating a vitriolic response. I’m not advising moderation (fuck moderation) but I am advising strategy.
Pursue local involvement. It’s tough to sit in front of a news cast in rural Canada and watch women in Alabama have their reproductive rights stripped from them, knowing a small donation to the ACLU is probably the most you can do short of upending your life to go on a march, and that won’t even move the needle much. But everyone, everywhere where voting happens, can march into a town hall and make their voice heard when it comes to the bullshit in their own community. The people around you want to get involved; they’re just not sure how to do it. Give them a means and they’ll stand beside you!
xoxo

Ex-Muslim Letters: 26 year old woman from Saudi Arabia
Tumblr media
Anonymous asked:
Hello, this is a 26 year old woman from Saudi Arabia. I renounced religion in 2015 and I have been living in fear since then. I spoke out and shared some of what I think with my family. I lived in isolation since then in the fear I might get in trouble again. I travelled abroad for my studies for two years and came back when I couldn't get a financial support. Now I am back to the same kind of "life" and isolation. I can't even secure a job. I need your advice.
Reply (from @rayhana):
Greetings from the UK. Thank you for your message. I am very sorry to hear that you are going through such a hardship in an unsafe environment as you described. I hope you find strength in these difficult times. You are not alone. We are with you.
Let’s break down your situation into two core problems, for simplicity:
Problem 1: You have renounced your faith in 2015. You are effectively an Ex-Musilm in a country where leaving Islam is punishable by death. You have shared some of your views with your family which means this may have or will cause you trouble - potentially, putting your life in danger.
Problem 2: You are unable to secure a job that can guarantee you with enough money to afford your own safe accommodation in a community you can trust. Without a job, you probably don’t have a steady flow of income for future savings which can help you leave a country where you are at risk of being killed.
Problem 1, the fact that you are an Ex-Muslim and have expressed some of your views about leaving the faith with your family, puts your life in danger anyway whether or not you have a job. And if you are under male guardianship prevented from leaving the house and getting help, it doesn’t matter whether or not you get a job.
So let’s tackle Problem 1 in this reply.
Action Plan to tackle #1: Getting you to safety
How long might it take? You know it better. Perhaps a minimum 6 months from contacting organisations who can help you to finally moving to a safe country, let's say Denmark? So if you start on your plan today (24th December 2020), then, when you re-read this reply again in July 2020, you might be in Denmark, rebuilding a new life. Let’s see how we can get you there.
Step 1: What do you need? Ideally, research a route to seek asylum in a country under the Geneva Convention that protects your human rights, particularly, freedom from religion. (Get it done by: 3 weeks max, mid-Jan)
I can’t recommend which country you should get a direct flight to (Yes, direct flight. NO TRANSIT IN NON-EU COUNTRIES BECAUSE SAUDI GOVT/PARENTS USE LOCAL GOVERNMENT TO KIDNAP THEIR DAUGHTERS). But I can, based on reports, say which countries to avoid. By all means, avoid Turkey, Philippines, India, any country in the Middle East, Bangladesh, Pakistan. Actually, following is a map of the countries you should avoid. Avoid all the countries whose maps are black or dark pink. This map is a good proxy because whether you are an Ex-Muslim, a liberal Muslim or an LGBT+ person, the risks you face is the same.
Be aware of human trafficking gangs when you leave the country: You should also avoid these countries because, since you are a young woman, you are a target of international sex trafficking gangs who look for women like you and promise you with a “job” and “new life” and end up taking your passport and selling you to prostitution.
Be aware of kidnapping gangs when you leave the country: You should also be selective about who you tell and stay in touch with when you leave Saudi Arabia and travel to your destination country. This is because, Saudi Arabia and much of the Middle East is heavily guarded by Islamist spies and moneymaker who will help your ‘kidnappers’ to find you by leaking your address, contact number, social media profiles in exchange of good sum of money. Once your Saudi guardians know where you are escaping to, they may contact your airline flight or the destination government to arrest you. This is why you need to avoid these following countries with black map:
Tumblr media
Step 2: Is asylum the right decision for you? If Yes, START PREPARING. (Get it done by: 4-8 weeks, 29 Feb 2020)
Head over to the website of UNHCR's Refugee Agency: https://help.unhcr.org/#_ga=2.36710247.670686335.1577196824-2037898764.1577196824
Allocate 1-2 days max to familiarise with the UNHCR's guides on seeking asylum. Make a list of the agencies who can help.
Allocate 2-4 days to familiarise with these organisations who help Muslim and Ex-Muslim dissents.
Humanists UK
Pen English
Pen International
Centre for Inquiry
Human Rights Watch
Red Cross
Once you are confident about their remit, send an email to them asking if they have any advice or a social worker who can help you.
Step 3: Get a trusted journalist to bring light to your story. (Get it done by: 4-6 weeks max, mid-Feb)
We suggest you contact the CPJ or the ICIJ and ask to speak to a journalist.
A journalist is a safer contact than people without professional capacity  who may introduce themselves to you as a “secular Muslim” or an “Ex-Muslim”. This is because journalists act within their professional capacity (there is an audit trail) so they will not cheat you or leak your information to your kidnappers.
And in the event that you are kidnapped, or killed, your journalist can spread the word across to help and rescue you.
Step 4: Gather evidence - ALL OF IT. (Get it done by: past evidence, 2 weeks max, mid-Jan, new evidence: as it happens)
If you have received new threatening messages, it means your life may be in immediate danger. In that case, since the Saudi police might be counterproductive because you are an Ex-Muslim, try contacting this and this and ask for help. We can’t guarantee they will save you but they are probably your best bet.
Go back to your old Facebook, email account, WhatsApp messages etc. dating back to 2014 or 2015. If you have received death threats or threats of violence or abusive messages from your family or anyone within Saudi Arabia for leaving Islam, save their screenshot. And save their backup copies in a cloud server, such as Google Drive.
Step 5: Get a lawyer (get it done by: 8-12 weeks, by early April 2020)
You need a trusted lawyer to support your asylum application once you decide where to rebuild your new life. We cannot recommend any lawyer without a safety check. Perhaps start with Lawyers Without Borders? Also, perhaps CPJ and ICIJ can help you find a good lawyer.
Step 6: Write your statement (Get it done by: 4 weeks, by April 2020 - update as you gather new evidence on events etc.)
It is worth starting from now, to draft your full situation in a document, to build a full picture of what is going on with your life, why your life is in danger and explain the evidence to support it.
Make sure you have a chronological detailed list of events, and match it with evidence.
Sadly, this is an anti-refugee, populist and polarised era. Without evidence, you will not get any help from the West because many westerners are afraid of Islamists and don’t want to help Ex-Muslims because they think it is “Islamophobic” to leave Islam. So make sure you hold on to your evidence.
Step 7: Do you have the money to buy plane tickets? Buy food? Rent a safe house in a completely new country? GET YOUR FINANCES IN ORDER. (Get it done by: start NOW, track progress mid April 2020)
Hold onto your savings in your bank, as well your assets. Make sure no one except you have access to them.
If you don’t have the funds to afford asylum or travel to a safe country, consider crowdfunding.
Make sure you have some cash with you as an emergency fund in case you lose access to your online bank.
Step 8: Have the fund, journalist, and legal support you need? Get ready for asylum. (Start by May/June - start early because bureaucracy will slow you down).
This is the main and most difficult bit.
Discuss with your legal representative, UNHRC, journalist on what is the best option for you to leave the country. Can you obtain a visitor visa to an EU country?
Set the date of your travel. Don’t tell anyone you are seeking asylum except for an accredited journalist, trusted lawyer as mentioned earlier. If you are escaping to Denmark, tell your friends and family you are going to Australia.
Pack up the essentials:
Your passport
Your medical and academic certificates
Your valuable assets: gold (protect them from thieves - you can later convert them to cash if you run out of money)
Get a new phone and a new laptop. Leave your old IT equipment in Saudi Arabia so that you cannot be traced by Saudi police. A fresh start means a fresh start.
     5. Plan your travel. And be viligant when you do so.
Get a direct flight. For example, direct flight from Riyadh to Copenhagen. No transit, No changes.
Before you arrive at your destination airport, either ask a representative from your lawyer, or your journalist to arrange to collect you from the airport. Before your plane lands, you should know the name and face of who you are meeting first, the taxi (number) where you will be traveling to, the address where you are going and potentially that country’s police and emergency number, e.g, 911, 999 or 111. Also, make a note of that country’s counter extremism hotline. In the worst case, call them.
Once you have landed in your new country, make sure you are meeting the people you verified earlier through your legal, journalist reps. Waste no time before going straight through the asylum process and meanwhile make sure you have a safe accommodation.
If you want to change how your life is today, it will not be an easy task. But you are not alone. Help is out there. You are looking at 6 to 12 months of struggle, if you want to change your life starting from today. Next year on this day you might be living a new life, breathing fresh air in Denmark, or Switzerland or Canada; or still stuck in Saudi Arabia in a life that feels like a prison cell. Or 30 years from now on this day when you are 56, you are still living the same life in Saudi Arabia, regretting that today as you read this, you did not gather some extra courage to change your life. I hope you find that extra courage. I know, from your letter, that you are already full of courage. When is the right time to turn that courage into action? You decide that. The world is ready when you are ready.
And if you do choose to put your courage to action starting from today, I hope I hear from you again - perhaps in January  when you have progressed with gathering evidence, finding some trusted journalists and lawyers to help you?
I can’t wait to see you happier, and braver.
Look forward to hearing from you again.
Lots of love. Merry Christmas and have an excellent start of the year.

Ghent through the eyes of a local.
When I told Chris Kelly that we were off to Europe, he said his exchange student daughter, Amelie came from Belgium and that he would contact her to see if she would be interested in showing us around. After some too-ing and frowing , we finally touched base with Amelie, while in Bruges, and arranged to spend today with her. A major thing, I believed, because she started her holidays today.
What a wonderful day
Amelie arrived at our hotel at the designated time. We had been passing the time chatting to the very personable hotel manager. He was checking that we had managed to see the different sites he had recommended. Amelie immediately gained Chris’s heart as she presented him with a large bottle of Belgian beer!! Omer, the same name as her grandfather, so special to her family.
Off we headed into town for breakfast at Amelie’s favourite cafe. Another great coffee in a decent sized bowl and a twist pastry.
From there we made our way to the castle chatting all the way. She was telling us how she ended up living with Chris and Claudia and we were telling tales out of school. Lol Chris Kelly.... I think Amelie understands you a bit more since meeting my Chris ... poor girl!!
We had a ball. She pointed out different buildings and explained more about Ghent than you find in tourist pamphlets. We lined up for tickets for the castle, audio and earphones. Amelie told us the narrator was a well known comedian who lives in Ghent.
The castle was built by Phillip of Alsace. I have actually taught about him when I taught the Crusades. I used to use the Terry Jones version of the Crusades which uses humour and role playing. The commentary throughout the castle exploration was of a similar vein. I was impressed with the humour as it’s similar to British Monty Python style. It’s rather funny to be walking around with earphones on and hear Chris guffaw over the narration. You couldn’t hear normal conversation.. but Chris’s laugh.....
We saw the first fireplace in Ghent and heard about some really awful forms of punishment. The battlements were amazing. I struggled with the spiral staircases ( too much vertigo sensation to enjoy the journey). I wasn’t keen to lean out over the battlement to see how high we were. Hmm maybe developing a phobia..... but I went and saw, maybe not quite conquered.
From there we wandered along the different streets, looking at the shops and archecture. Amelie bought us some very interesting gels which are a specialty of Ghent. On the outside, they are firm like a wine gum, but the centre is almost runny in consistently. Yum!
It was Amelie’s birthday yesterday, so we went to Paul’s to celebrate with her. She was telling us that she is in her last year of study for Phsychology and has 126 days practicium to start in August. I can hear people now ... saying after meeting Chris and I, she could cut down the number of hours needed!!! After some of the stories Chris related to her... I’m sure she’d agree!!
We did some sitting people watching, then more meandering. There is a modern building behind St Nicholas Church. Chris and I had looked at it last night, wondering about its purpose. Amelie told us it’s called the Sheep’s Shed. It was very controversial, causing quite a major row. However people were coming to like it as it is the centre if lots of concerts and activities.
We went and looked at the University, which doesn’t charge exhorbitant fees, less than $1000 a year and the Govt give a book allowance/ grant. Oh to have a large population base.
We told Amelie about our lovely friend Bob Smith, who fills our lives with yellow ducks,.. low and behold we found a whole flock of ducks for sale. Heehee!!
We also visited a Belgian Chocolate shop and no, we didn’t buy the suculant, luscious chocolate or bottles of very cold water to put beside them to keep them from melting. ‘Scuse me while I wipe my chin....
Somehow it was 4 pm and so we headed back to our hotel and Amelie’s mum’s car. She had a half hour trip into the countryside to get home. Normally it takes her an hour and a half to get to uni from home
We are delighted in our newly found ‘great niece’. She will definitely be most welcome ‘down under’ to continue her research into the idiosyncrates of the Webster-Kelly family ... so she can make a fortune writing the book... on second thoughts maybe we shouldn’t let her near our mates... there are too many truths .. and we would ruin her perfect English with lots of “Bloodys”!!
After a rest and sorting emails, we headed back into town to have tea at the best rib restaurant. - locals know these things... thanks Amelie for your recommendation. Heaven! It came with a huge baked potato with its own curry sauce and a salad. What we didn’t know when we ordered, was that you could have more ribs and potato when you had finished your first serving!! Groan... no room ....
While sitting finishing up dinner a group of Americans rolled up. We told them that they would enjoy the ribs. We got talking... as we do... one couple’s daughter married a Kiwi, from Auckland. We told her we were from the Mainland....
We are now tucked up, hoping to have a better night’s sleep ... the train track is bloody close and the trains go like a bullet out of a gate.
Off to Dorset tomorrow thru the Chunnel to be spoilt by Pete and Gerry.

Pakistan’s Undeclared Censorship | The Diplomat
Pakistan People’s Celebration Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, when addressing a ceremony on Planet Press Freedom Working day in Karachi, claimed that Pakistani media is facing undeclared censorship. Sadly, the journalist community agrees with him.

“The red line has expanded. The institution is interfering at just about every doable amount. There are no totally free converse shows. Information and articles or blog posts are censored. It is extensive censorship,” columnist and analyst Imtiaz Alam said.
The “red line” now includes criticism of the highly effective armed forces of Pakistan and the new Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) governing administration, protection of rights-based mostly alliance Pashtun Tahaffuz motion (PTM), and reporting on previous Primary Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is at the moment in jail.

All those who feel in different ways are out of a work this time. Talat Hussain, Matiullah Jan, Murtaza Solangi, and I are illustrations,” Ammar Masood explained.
Journalists are transferring to social media platforms soon after acquiring sacked from their employment. Some have made their personal YouTube channels, where they publish their evaluation on diverse political happenings.

— Imtiaz Alam (@ImtiazAlamSAFMA) April 25, 2019

7 Things About crowdfunding just giving Your Boss Wants to Know
Tumblr media
Rob Rhinehart, a co-founding father of nutritional consume begin-up Soylent, declared inside of a site article last week that he was supporting Kanye West for president.
“I am so sick of politics,” Mr. Rhinehart wrote. “Politics are abruptly everywhere. I can't stay away from them.”
David Barrett, the Main executive of Expensify, a company computer software start off-up, went in An additional course. Within an email to his corporation’s ten million buyers previous 7 days, he implored them to embrace politics by selecting the Democratic presidential nominee, Joseph R. Biden Jr.
“Everything fewer than a vote for Biden is a vote in opposition to democracy,” Mr. Barrett proclaimed.
With days to go prior to the election on Tuesday, Mr. Rhinehart and Mr. Barrett characterize the dual poles of a start-up society war which has overtly erupted in Silicon Valley. Commence-ups including the cryptocurrency enterprise Coinbase plus the audio application Clubhouse have become embroiled inside a discussion around just how much politics needs to be A part of the office. And undertaking capitalists and various tech executives have weighed in on social networking with their own individual views.
“I have never observed another occasion like this in my profession,” explained Bradley Tusk, a venture capitalist and political guide. “There’s no authentic separation any longer, in The present political local weather, concerning politics and anything else. It has permeated Totally every little thing.”
Silicon Valley tech staff have lengthy been considered liberal but not politically overactive. Right after President Trump’s victory in 2016, even so, staff at massive tech firms such as Google and Amazon commenced agitating additional on challenges just like the ethics of synthetic intelligence, immigration and climate adjust.
Now many commence-up personnel, who are already marketed on a mission of adjusting the entire world, assume their employers to help their social and political results in, business owners and traders stated. This summer time’s protests in opposition to law enforcement violence prompted quite a few tech organizations to re-examine their own concerns with race. And the strain for making political moves prior to the election has only intensified.
The shift has grown partly outside of a realization that no tech platform is completely neutral, stated Katie Jacobs Stanton, who invests in begin-ups by her undertaking funds business, Moxxie Ventures. Founders who build providers with an incredible number of buyers “seriously have an obligation to have a point of view and ensure their products are getting used permanently,” Ms. Stanton mentioned.
“It’s disingenuous and it’s also the luxury on the privileged to convey, ‘We don’t Have a very viewpoint,’” she included.
But Many others claimed they feared getting a lightning rod or inflaming tensions at a hypersensitive instant over the coronavirus pandemic. Some anxious that their corporations could be sued by staff who could say they had been discriminated versus due to their political beliefs. Other folks claimed any go may very well be attacked by people that discovered the actions inauthentic or not enough.
Those people tensions exploded in general public very last thirty day period when Brian Armstrong, the Main government of Coinbase, penned a two,000-phrase weblog article to “explain” his corporation’s culture. Mr. Armstrong wrote that he preferred Coinbase to frequently avoid engaging with broader social challenges and office discussions about politics. He stated it absolutely was a method to attenuate distraction and target the start-up’s mission of making “an open up economical system for the earth.”
Two months previously, dozens of Coinbase staff members experienced staged a walkout just after executives were being sluggish to precise solidarity with Black Lives Subject protesters and minority workers, many workers said. In his submit, Mr. Armstrong stated workers who disagreed along with his “no politics” stance could go away.
His situation quickly established waves throughout Silicon Valley. Some praised the transfer, with just one Coinbase investor comparing Mr. Armstrong to Michael “Jordan in his key.” Other people stated opting outside of politics was alone a political assertion.
Dick Costolo, a former Main government of Twitter, tweeted that “me-first capitalists who Believe you could different Culture from company” might be shot in “the revolution.” He deleted the article immediately after, he claimed, it established off violent threats and harassment.
Within an interview, Mr. Costolo mentioned it was impossible for corporations to separate their mission from their effect on the whole world. “If you are trying to independent the social contract within the financial agreement, don’t be amazed when there’s an uprising, mainly because they’re linked,” he claimed.
Some Coinbase personnel disagreed with Mr. Armstrong. “I’m just so mystified by the clear lack of awareness from the web site post,” Ryan King, a Coinbase engineer, wrote on the business’s internal Slack messaging procedure. The concept was reviewed via the Ny Times. “A declaration that we’re not heading to the touch ‘broader societal issues’ fails to admit that we’re a A part of Culture.”
About sixty Coinbase employees, or five per cent of the work force, have resigned, the corporation stated. A spokeswoman declined even more remark.
Fred Wilson, an Trader at Union Square Ventures in addition to a Coinbase board member, claimed within an interview that there were no easy answers for start out-up leaders. “Many, many C.E.O.s have instructed me privately which they would want to have carried out what Brian did but don’t need to go ahead and take warmth that he has taken,” he claimed.
On Monday, Mr. Wilson wrote a web site post about removing begin-up chief executives who have “failed to deal with numerous critical challenges.” The article prompted speculation that he was referring to Mr. Armstrong, but Mr. Wilson reported it had been a metaphor for President Trump.
The political debates among the Silicon Valley begin-ups have ramped up Considering that the Coinbase episode. Very last week, Soylent’s Mr. Rhinehart printed his article supporting Mr. West’s presidential bid. Mr. Rhinehart, who is about the board although not associated with the corporate’s day-to-day functions, also attacked the political process plus the media, writing that “politics has often been based upon jokes.”
Demir Vangelov, Soylent’s Main govt, mentioned Mr. Rhinehart’s article didn't characterize the organization. Soylent’s emphasis is on bringing “the most beneficial comprehensive nourishment to Everybody,” he stated, and it does not acquire political stances.
At Expensify, located in Portland, Ore., Mr. Barrett took a special situation. Soon after paying much more than ten years in Silicon Valley, in which he identified a “uniform watch” that politics was not very good for business, he moved to Portland 4 many years back. Now, he reported, “selecting not to take part is also a alternative — it’s a choice to defend the status quo.”
So when Expensify employees drafted an email to tell customers to vote for Mr. Biden, immediately after concluding in an inside discussion that re-electing Mr. Trump could be a risk to democracy, Mr. Barrett favored sending it out. But he also obtained Dying threats, prompting him to hire non-public stability. No consumers have quit, potentially for the reason that Expensify’s process usually takes months to change out of, he stated.
Tayo Oviosu, Main executive of Paga, a payments commence-up in Lagos, Nigeria, mentioned Expensify’s email had crossed a line. Mr. Oviosu isn’t opposed to providers’ Talking up on social justice concerns, “but that is quite distinct than leveraging The truth that you utilised my individual information to tell me I need to vote in a certain way,” he stated. “That is definitely Incorrect.”
Mr. Oviosu, who was utilizing a demo Variation of Expensify and was contemplating adopting the compensated version, mentioned he now prepared to have a look at solutions. “I feel they shed me entirely on this,” he mentioned.
The start-up culture wars will also be apparent on Clubhouse, in which folks be a part of rooms and chat with each other. The application is a popular spot for buyers which include Marc Andreessen together with other techies to hand around in the pandemic. (Mr. Andreessen’s venture business, Andreessen Horowitz, has invested in Clubhouse, Coinbase and Soylent.)
On Oct. 6, Mr. Andreessen started off a Clubhouse place identified as “Keeping Place for Karens,” which describes obtaining empathy for “Karens,” a slang phrase for any pushy privileged girl. One more team, “Keeping Room for Marc Andreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessen,” quickly popped up. There, people today reviewed their disappointment with the Karen dialogue together with other occasions when, they stated, Clubhouse was hostile to people today of shade.
Mr. Andreessen and others later on started a Clubhouse home known as “Silence,” the place nobody spoke. Andreessen Horowitz declined to comment.
In a “city hall” Within the application on Sunday, Clubhouse’s founders, Paul Davison and Rohan Seth, have been requested about Coinbase’s and Expensify’s political statements and where by Clubhouse stood. They reported the company was venture capitalist definition still determining how Clubhouse would publicly back social results in and felt the platform really should enable for various points of watch, a spokeswoman stated. She declined to comment further.
Yet even All those wishing to stay away from politics are finding it challenging in order to avoid. On Saturday, Mr. Armstrong shared Mr. Rhinehart’s weblog write-up endorsing Mr. West on Twitter. “Epic,” tweeted Mr. Armstrong.
Many end users pointed out the hypocrisy in Mr. Armstrong’s sharing some thing political just after telling personnel to abstain. Certainly one of his workers, Jesse Pollak, wrote that Mr. Armstrong experienced shared anything with “numerous inaccuracies, conspiracy theories, and misplaced assumptions.”

Simple and Hassle-Free
There is no need to remain in a line, go to the sub-enrollment office and hang tight for one's go-to enlist the agreement. The main assignment to be done is to acquire the bio-metric unique mark filters and the photographs and check the character online through the UID information previously existing. All these should be possible anyplace at the gathering's accommodation and accessibility. The whole procedure after the information section can be finished in 10-15 min effectively.
Delicate Copies
Since there are just delicate duplicates in an enlisted lease agreement, there is no necessity for the physical conveyance of the duplicates.
