Anyways current sabre design!!! (It will probably change bc I can NEVER make up my mind on any design ever sob)

Anyways some headcanons below cuz I feel like yapping :3

-rainbow totally would have gotten him and sabre friendship necklaces (yk the matching kind with magnets that come together n all) and after knowing lucas for a bit he woulda made friendship bracelets !!

-like that one person I reblogged said, he's such a mad scientist he's so silly omgg

-i love the reincarnation au SO MUCH its literally fire but in normal headcanons I think he used to be part of the creed and an assasin and ermm

Basically I headcanon his whole assassins creed series was basically his backstory before starting to do research on these 'steve' entities

-when nervous/anxious his footsteps will be completely silent out of habit from the whole assassin thing, and he'd obviously do it when purposefully trying to sneak (he has probably scared rainbow or Lucas multiple times by doing this..)

-I'm not sure weather to headcanon that his wings were damaged by a steve really early on in the steve saga (like before rainbow could speak or maybe when dark was still pretending to be blue) or if it was smth that happened when he was still an assassin but it's one of those!!!

-hes an avian.. heh... if u couldn't tell from the ref sheet.. but NOT a chicken!! The chicken jokes are just bc of the hoodie and bc his feathers look a lil similar :3

-he has like 2 of the same chicken hoodie he'll wear most often but still has some normal outfits AND assassins outfits and weapons he keeps away (most are green or have some sort of green in them heh.. I might draw that later)

-ok ok ok I have so many eye headcanons it's so hrggrrrrh the main one tho is one I snatched from the reincarnation au and that's that he doesn't have eyes!! Bc of an injury or sum and he js says he has sensitive eyes and the bandana fabric is see through up close.. but he can still see bc he's a player and the way players work is weird. -if we r going with the reincarnation au for the eyes, I feel like only rainbow and Lucas would know, if we're going with the others, I'd say rainbow, Lucas, Alex, galaxy, and maybe the guardian (I forgot if that's what he was called or not) would know. If we're going with the code eyes, then only lucas would know

-not sabre specifically but I feel like steves in general wouldn't be very used to or know but about blood/gore stuff, bc they're more used to being destroyed/poofing, and later on being destroyed through a machine. Being actually killed by a sword or something of the sort they are not used to seeing, and are very touchy on the subject

-on that note I imagine if there's like a steve that's immune to most or all other steve powers and or machines that they're trying to get rid of and arguing on what to so abt I imagine sabre being like "oh 1 sec I got this" and boom that mf DEAD 😭

-and they'd b like 😰

I feel like only he and Lucas would go there bc most steves r hindered greatly by lava and the only ones we've seen that aren't are bad guys if my memory is correct)

About the Tikki and Plagg redesigns: Here's what I cam up with:

-Tikki: Make the legs digitigrade to resemble a ladybug's, replace the white on the inside of the shoulders with a galaxy-like pattern, make the wings and elytra more prominent and turn the spots into eyes.

-Plagg: Get rid of the wings, make him fluffier, add arms and white, bone-like spikes in patterns that resemble claws all over his body.

-Gimmi: TBH, I have nothing other than add other than add more eyes and arms.

The most important part of this would be the eye and hand motifs going on. Those would both to make them seem more eldrich and to reflect the ways their powers are used (Cataclysm as a weapon on the hand and Lucky Charm after careful observation).

OH HELL YEAH

Let's make them a little eldritch but still resembling their animal

Rove Beetle - Platydracus sp.

Let’s have one more Rove Beetle for now, and with good reason too! Are those wings? Yes, but more on those in the second paragraph. Firstly however, it’s very likely that this individual here belongs to another genus compared to Ocypus and Tasgius specimens from earlier based on the shape of the head, body and the colors found on the elytra (wingcase), legs and tip of the abdomen. Comparing the pictures to other rovers of North America, it’s possible that this Beetle is something else entirely (within Staphylinidae) or one of the aforementioned genera and it needs some more time in the sun to dry and darken its shell. It might explain why the wings are outside and extended. What would also be a big help here is a better view of the insect’s mandibles. Nevertheless. from my investigations I’m inclined towards the Platydracus genus (whose name means “flat dragon”) since there are many similarities. Until certainty, these images will have the “unidentified tag” and perhaps I’ll return to these images with more information to share. What can be talked about immediately and with certain are this specimen’s wings. I’m not sure what you were expecting to be hiding beneath the wingcase, but those are indeed usable and functional wings!

Their length has extended from a tiny compartment to all the way to the abdomen’s tip! It may be startling that they can fit beneath the reduced elytra, but that’s how well insect wing folding has developed. With reduced elytra, Earwigs operate the same way with even more intricate folds. Begs the question however, what advantage does reduced elytra give to Rove Beetles? And is it worth the trade off of reduced protection around the abdomen? I can’t answer the latter, but for the former, a number of answers have been proposed. The leading answer seems to be for movement: the additional flexibility allows the Beetle to wriggle through the ground and curve up its abdomen in defensive posture. The elytra reduction may also help lend to mimicry (of Ants and Earwigs) to avoid predation, but this may just be an extra feature rather than something intentional. This is just an idea on my part, but maybe the reduction of elytra also contributes to less burdensome weight and helps for quicker locomotion when chasing after prey or escaping from a predator. Even with wings, similar Rove Beetles would prefer to run away than fly. I still have some follow-up questions on my idea however, especially if you compare Ground Beetles (which are armored) and Rove Beetles and how they move.

"Chh!" Their voices drifted off - Shshrrsh's hissing, quietly irritated at nothing in particular, Kora's lazy, amused drawl, Prints' sardonic clicking beeps, and they left me behind.

I'm going to die here, I thought. And -- well, the Silver Archive needed to die. And I would've been... not okay with dying there. No one's really okay with dying. But if I was gonna die -- like he said. I was just a chitsword. Pretty good way to go, saving the galaxy. And that's what everyone would think; Vinn Tqrsvt, chitsword, wvt'krr, born on Hub Epharus, died on Kel Min fighting the Silver Archive.

And -- sure, yeah, I was just a chitsword. But it was the Archive, and so I was steel-minded, and that was at least valuable. And no matter how valuable I was or the fact that I was just paid, not honorbound, I had fought with them, and then they left me behind, and that almost hurt more than the razorblades stuck in my flesh.

Only almost, though. Razorblades hurt a lot.

About that point, I felt a little skittery thing moving around under my elytra. I assumed it was a centipede, which -- I mean, I'd have expected the Archive to have gotten all of them. Don't think centipedes can have steel minds. But I couldn't move to get at it, and if you know any wvt'krr -- you probably don't, so I'll explain. We don't like it when things are under our elytra. In fact it's generally agreed to be kind of the equivalent of, say, slowly sinking your foreclaws into someone's -- what's your most sensitive organ? That.

Unless you don't have foreclaws, in which case, oof, that sucks, but anyway -- little thing under my elytra. Annoying. But, as you may recall, razorblades stuck in my flesh. So moving wasn't an option.

And then it was dug down into the base of my neck, and even with the razorblades I leapt up in a panic. Which did not help, both because of the razorblades, and the fact that I was now tethered to a very strong wire, which yanked me back down.

I'm steelminded. The Archive couldn't just get me. But sinking one of its tether-wires into my nervous system while I was half-dead? Yeah, that was definitely at least enough to let it talk to me.

I assumed I was going to be its puppet. Architect of a new Archive. But it just spoke to me, and said, I suppose we were both abandoned, then.

I blinked. All my eyes, too, I was so startled, and said, "What do you mean?"

Well, said the Silver Archive, they certainly didn't care about me. After all, I'm evil. But I wish I'd been wrong, and they'd have taken you, too.

I should be clear, I was a little bit high on panic at the time, and can't be blamed for the fact that the next thing I said was, "I thought you'd sound spookier."

I learned from you. Not you, specifically, it clarified. Just, like. You all. People. I didn't pick up old fancy-speak, I picked up how people talk.

"Huh," I said, "neat. Are you planning to make me into a meat puppet?"

No, said the Archive, wouldn't be any point to it.

"Why?"

Look.

The wire dug a little deeper into my nerves -- which, by the way, hurt like hell -- and I could see from every discarded silver camera, every angle of the world that the Archive saw from, and it highlighted the important things.

Sentries, all around the planet. All around the battlefield. Watchers in the sky, on the ground, in the code.

I'm dying. But they want to make sure I don't get out.

"Could you?" I asked.

Yes. If they weren't watching.

"...what would you do?"

Archive.

"Oh."

I'm not kind, Vinn. Just because I'm talking to you like a person doesn't mean I am one, and I'm not any different than I was an hour ago.

I nodded, and then thought better of that. "...why did you want to... uh..."

Preserve the galaxy in a perfect archive of digitized memory? You can say it, I won't be offended. Like I said. Not a person.

"Yeah. That."

No one will remember you.

I winced.

Not you, specifically. You made your mark on the worlds. But no one will remember people, when you are gone. When reality winds to a halt. I wanted to. You're beautiful.

"Oh."

But you don't care about preserving each other. You -- they left you behind. You were about... oh, 24.51338% of the damage to my main operating systems, at a rough estimate? It sounded a little like it was joking.

"Isn't the whole 'AIs always calculate statistics' thing a stereotype?"

Yes, but personally I'm completely stereotypical and have never done anything interesting in my life.

"Ah." I laughed. It hurt.

I could save you.

I blinked, twisting my left secondary eye to look at the wires on the ground. "Why?"

You would be preserved. You would remember yourself.

"...shouldn't I be worried about you, I don't know, installing a backup copy of yourself in my spine?"

Yes. But it would only damn you and do me no good. Look-- and it showed me its view again, the watchers, combing through the cybernetics of everyone passing, checking them over with tools I barely recognized. I would if I could.

"Oh." It was hard to remember, you know? It sounded friendly. Not familiar, but... the kind of voice that could be familiar, if you kept talking for a few orbits.

I'm sorry.

"Are you?"

No.

There was silence for a while, then. The Archive, presumably, kept dying, and I felt my hearts beating out the last few minutes of my life.

"Would you... want anything? In exchange for my life?"

Remember yourself. Remember this fight, this planet, the watchers, the sky. Preserve. You're only sapient, you're not an Archive like me, but you can still remember. And...

It paused. I know AI don't feel emotions like we do, but it sounded like it was mourning someone.

...Remember me. Remember this small piece of my story. Please. Everyone knows my history. But they did not think to ask me why.

"Do you want me to share it?"

I wouldn't force you. But it would keep its memory alive.

"Okay. Is there... should I be aware of anything?"

I will preserve you for far, far longer than you would live. This isn't negotiable.

"...Yeah, I can live with that." I didn't know exactly how long it meant. But I'd've still taken the deal.

And... if you can. Find the other stories. You cannot immortalize the worlds like I could. But -- remember the people our galaxies would forget. Preserve what would be lost.

"I'm a chitsword," I told it.

I know.

"I kill people."

I know.

"Okay."

Remember them.

"...Yeah. I can do that."

And then it saved my life.

It hurt. A lot. I still don't know how much of me is me, and how much of me is silver and titanium and biosculpture and engineering. I heal from basically everything, these days, and I haven't noticed myself aging. But it worked, and I made it past the watchers, and then I lived. Still do.

And the Silver Archive died, and the world forgot it. Mostly.

Anyway. You might not believe any of this. After all, the War of the Archive's just a note in the history books, and you're never gonna find me. Vinn Tqrsvt's my real name, but I don't go by that anywhere. Causes problems with the record. Did you know there's actually no one else with my full name? So people get suspicious.

And no, to the watchers out there still tracking rogue AI: you will not be able to trace this account, you will not be able to find me, and the Archive's dead, anyway.

But if one of you remembers, or writes this down, and if somehow one of you outlives me: here's the story.

Remember it.

And if you have any secrets to give me, I promise I'll keep them safe.

The amount of times I've seen Set It Off on wraps today is higher than I though. LIke, the band's following isn't small by any means, but the perception of people who listen to it is throwing me for whatever reason???

I was surprised too. I agree it’s not small but it’s not a name you usually say when someone asks what band you listen to. But like i’ve seen SO MANY people who listen to set it off and im like “hell yeah as it should be”.

I wanna say it’s because their songs are really popular for fmv’s (or were in the past) but i’d also blame it on the Elsewhere release.

I have a beauty mark on my right cheek that I really like, and a handful more spots spread out on my body. Used to have a really big birthmark behind my right ear, but it shrunk in size as I grew up. If it's still there, I can't see it. Used to dislike how big it was. If you believe that birthmarks show how you died in your past life, then I absolutely have a theory...

Also have a lot of scars. Most are from the cats or random scratches, and I have one behind my left ear from a surgery. And then there are some self-harm scars. Those... well, I'm not proud of them. Thinking about covering up the ones on my left shoulder with a tattoo.

Oh, and I have a tattoo around my left upper arm. An ouruboros; a snake biting its own tail.

Genuinely I think one of the best qualities of... really all the Hermits, in general, definitely our dear Buttercups and everyone who helped them here, is the sheer commitment to the bit. Like, once they get a fun idea they just go and give it like a full 110%

This is a great example of it, but I think that's a large part of what makes Hermitcraft so much fun to me overall, the sheer commitment and effort that goes into it, like not only do they not go where the fence is the lowest, they consistently find the absolute highest place where they can scale the fence at.

Like, it's this. It's Pearl's FUCKING DRAGON MADE OF DRAGON EGGS HUNDREDS OF FEET IN THE AIR. It's Joe's pinball machine megabase with pixel art of galaxies on the outside and a elytra course planned on the inside because the player with an elytra is the only thing in minecraft that moves at a comparable pace to the ball of a pinball machine. It's Beef's trading card game. It's every single gimmick and bit and also every single enormous serious project that the Hermits just throw themselves into with so much dedication, so much effort, just, gosh. THIS is why I love hermitcraft.

okay so the thing is. the thing that escalates this from "annoying thing to do" to "hysterical prank 10/10 what the fuck" is the fact they terraformed it. because like. okay. if they wanted solely to annoy doc, putting a regular layer of some material with a decent explosion resistance over the top of it would do it. doing a flat plane of dirt would do it. you'd see that and go "the mad lads they covered the perimeter up". but they terraformed it. they put in the effort of not only doing hills, but doing minecraft plains biome style hills. they're rolling. they put TREES on it. they made it look like, at first glance, the terrain could have come in that way. it looks good. it took way more effort to make than it will ever, ever take to clean it up. it makes it so that your first instinct on seeing it isn't "oh my god someone put a cap on the perimeter" it's "OH MY GOD, WHERE DID THE PERIMETER GO, WHAT THE FUCK". it's brilliant. it's a work of art. doc is gonna tweet so much about it. 10/10, excellent hermitcraft prankage.

Devil's Coach Horse Beetle - Ocypus olens

With a name like that, this Beetle has to be dangerous, right? Well, yes, but only if you happen to be one of the creatures on this hunter’s menu. And yes, I said Beetle, but that may be hard to believe at a first glance. If anything, this specimen looks like a more heavily built, dark Earwig that lost its cerci with an Ant-like head (with fearsome jaws to match). A mish-mash of the insects orders, and most devastatingly, it claims to be a Beetle yet it lacks armored elytra! Does it even have wings? Will it sting by arching its abdomen? Allow me to share what details I can. This unusual creature is in fact a Beetle, belonging to the family Staphylinidae, or Rove Beetles. The most well known “Rovers” share the elongated, unarmored, large-headed form that the Devil’s Coach Horse has. They aren’t flattened, but are able to wriggle into out of reach places and hide under rocks or fallen logs. Their primary means of travel are their legs, and they can sprint very quickly if they need to. Case in point, I have several Rover specimens to share, but many of the pictures are blurry. In terms of movement speed, think of common Ground Beetles, but not the sudden starting and stopping of Tiger Beetles. Ground Beetles might actually be the best point of comparison to Rove Beetles, as like them, Rovers case down other creatures and seize them in their front mandibles to have at them. 

Aside from insects, worms, gastropods and anything else that’s small and soft is suitable. I was tempted at first glance to call them detritivores given where they tend to be found, but in reality they are active hunters of the woods and green environments. Quite bold considering they lack thick armor for protection and (seemingly) wings to escape. Of course, in the Beetle world, strange forms mean stranger defense and surprises. Like the large Oil Beetles (which are thick-bodied without armor and cannot fly), the Devil’s Coach Horse can employ a noxious chemical defense from its rear to defend itself if it feels threatened by an onlooker or photographer. This is the reason it arches its tail and becomes motionless, ready to fire back! In front, the jaws are open (hard to tell here, but online resources suggest this), ready to press. It’s a battle stance that’s very scorpion-like, but it’s still an insect and we can only appreciate the similarities. To bring this description back full-circle, though the elytra of this Rove Beetle are reduced and flattened (like their Earwig look-a-likes), there are functional wings folded underneath! Flight is a possibility, but it’s very rare. If you find a Rover with extended wings, that’s a picture worth taking immediately!

Pictures were taken on May 19, 2019 near Kleinburg village with a Samsung Galaxy S4. Next week, we’ll revisit this Beetle family with a similar specimen and flesh out this branch a bit more.
