Urias Daily Facts 25 and 26

25. The dragons of Urias are leather-skinned with leathery wings, have an average length of twenty feet and a wingspan of fifty, and have hollow bones. Dragons have curved horns and the tip of their jaws has a short, beak-like protrusion. While not as avian as the Qoetheryx, their close cousin, they do straddle a line between bird and reptile. Nobody knows if they are sapient or not, but they are highly intelligent and alien, and have a longstanding agreement, or truce, or semi-domestication with the Izemin. They eat cattle, which is raised in special “green caverns” by the Izemin for their steeds.

26. The Ushern Plains, farmlands for the northern Ushern Peninsula, had several provinces during the Great Civilization (though they were outshone by their neighbors, Stohl and Alterra). These provinces were too small to keep stable after the Civilization fell, and united into a trade empire called the Ushern Coalition. They were centered in Eltora, the Elven wood in the middle of the plains, but as the Elves became more xenophobic, or at least less pleasant, Eltora became its own state and the Coalition’s government moved to a city on the western coastline called Zichin.

However, the government proved fairly weak, and an agreement was made between the Coalition, Alterra, and Stohl: the larger two countries would produce half of the required food for their countries, more if reasonably feasible, and would have free rein to farm in approximately two-thirds of the Plains (the borders agreed upon by all three countries, but the land itself fairly neutral politically, a sort of shared governance). The final third was to feed the Coalition itself and serve as the Coalition’s primary living area. In payment for these services, Stohl would provide the Coalition with metals and technology and Alterra would pay in other supplies needed. The exact payments and types of payments were determined between the three countries using Enchanted Mirrors, in a constant discussion unbroken for a thousand years.

After the Moment of Chaos, the Coalition became a province of the Northern Union, as did Stohl and Alterra, heavily decreasing the amount of politics between the regions as each of their resources was collected and distributed by the Northern Union’s government.
