Hi there! Would you happen to know (or maybe it was mentioned somewhere) if LOTR universe had the same stars and constellations as we do? For example, if a couple of characters went stargazing in a story, would they still be searching out the Big Dipper, the Orion’s Belt, etc.? Or would they be looking at different constellations entirely? Thank you so much!
Interesting question! I’m not an expert but will do my best to give you my understanding…
The short answer is that yes, someone in Middle Earth gazing up at the night sky would see the same stars and constellations that we see, but they would know them by different names, meanings and mythologies. Tolkien made a whole cosmology for Arda (the larger world of which Middle Earth is a part), but he also positioned Arda as being OUR world – just a long, long time before we came to be in it. So his invented cosmology contains and explains the real world things that are also part of ours. There is the sun and moon (and a whole story for how they came to exist), and there are stars and constellations that were made by Varda, the queen of the Valar. We don’t know them by their original names and mythologies anymore, but the underlying physical phenomena are the same.
The Silmarillion lists a few of Arda’s constellations, and in the Index of Names in the back of the book, Christopher Tolkien took the time to identify which real world constellations they were meant to represent. So the Valacirca (“sickle of the Valar” that was put in the sky as a challenge to Morgoth and his forces of darkness) is our Big Dipper, and Menelmacar (“swordsman of the sky” who foretells the battle to end all battles) is Orion, complete with a “shining belt.” One of the others is Cassiopeia, and someone with a better memory than me could probably dredge up more of those specific examples! He did the same with specific stars and planets, too. The most famous of those comes from Elrond’s dad, Eärendil, who travels the sky with one the infamously luminous silmarils, which we see today as Venus.
I hope that’s helpful to you! ♥️ I actually really love the idea that these characters we treasure so much but who seem so different from us are gazing up at the very same night sky that we’ve been looking at our whole lives. And of course this is just one more place where the meticulousness of Tolkien’s world building is just kind of 🤯!!!

do you have any particular headcanon about elrond's cloak? it's so worn there are holes in it so obviously it has history and significance and I hope we'll get to know it in the show. and that pin - is it supposed to look like feanor's star?? I'm not sure how to feel about it if it is. I mean I get that elrond's fond of his kidnapper dads but still. or maybe it's earendil? like on that tapestry in lindon? I like that option better:)
HI HELLO
sorry it took me so long to get to this one! I assume we're talking about the teal/blue cloak which I have a lot of thoughts about. Thank you for giving me an excuse to ramble.
The production have all been very clear that they've hidden allusions to Elrond's heritage pretty much everywhere in his costuming, so I've spent a lot of time picking it apart and thinking about it. As far as his blue cloak goes I've seen the headcannon that it's either originally from numenor or possibly even used to belong to Elros, and while I like that idea for the Feels(tm) I don't think it holds up due to the fact that in this scene below, it seems to be a shared item among Gil-Galad's entourage.
The Cloak:
Tumblr media
the cloaks the others are wearing aren't an exact match and seem significantly newer, so it's not guaranteed they're related (and may just be there for the scene's color palette), but considering how much work this show has put into the costuming across the board I don't think its insignificant that the fabric seems to be the exact same. Elrond kind of seems to almost be wearing his inside-out though? Anyway this leads me to think that it may simply be a signal of a specific function in Gil-Galad's court. I think these women may be pursuivants, which is the court position directly under herald. The position has a similar set of duties (cataloguing genealogies & lore, running diplomatic messages, issuing warrents, attending personally to the king, etc. etc.) but they just aren't as highly ranked.
That isn't a particularly exciting answer but it does offer an interesting clue as to how long Elrond has been a member of Gil-Galad's court/how old he might be. This hasn't been specifically mentioned yet but considering his "work cloak" seems old and worn we can infer he isn't brand new to his position of herald (further supported by how familiar he is with Gil-Galad/confident in asking for favors. They seem to know each other very well on a personal level and have rapport, even if Gil is being a cranky this season).
Tumblr media
Being a kidnap fam enthusiast there is a lot of fun to be had with the fact that there is a giant Feanorian star on the back, which I personally like to imagine is a jab at everyone who might have qualms about Elrond's background. A big ol: "deal with it! I was kidnapped and fostered by Feanorians and NO that does not make me a traitor but also they are part of me & raised me & I don't hate them sorryyyy. However I am in fact very loyal to the king thank you very much and have no kinslaying urges" -- and also an interesting distancer from Earendil. HOWEVER the cirth on the cloak seems to read "Earendillion" so...
(which again, leads to fun headcannons about how much of this specific clothing item has the potential to be Elrond going 'yeah, I have a very messy and mixed background and I accept all parts of myself. deal with it' ... but that may just be wishful thinking on my part).
Everyone's been pretty up in arms about the usage of "Feanorian" stars across the costuming, but I've been examining Elvish heraldry recently and to be quite honest I don't think it's a Feanorian star specifically. It does look UNCANNILY like what all of us, as a fandom, have collectively decided Feanorian heraldry looks like, but despite what collective Silm fanon would have us believe, Feanor doesn't have a monopoly on the usage of eight pointed stars, and actually Feanor's heraldry looks like this:
Tumblr media
sure, it's an eight pointed lozenge technically, but it looks nothing like the symbol the show is using -- and again, eight pointed stars are everywhere among the ruling noldorin houses because in Tolkien's heraldry 6-8 pointed stars simply signify royalty.
I wondered if maybe it's Earendil's sigil all over everywhere, but Earendil has a six pointed star, not an eight pointed star. So that rules out Earendil's heraldry.
Upon further digging the symbol the show's been using nearly universally looks a LOT more like Finarfin's sigil:
Tumblr media
Which I find especially interesting considering Elrond wears it and Elros seems to have adopted it EVERYWHERE. Elros and Elrond are descended from the line of Fingolfin (via Turgon on Earendil's side), not Feanor or Finarfin, however the show has made a pretty big deal about their showcanon (headcannon????) of just how close Elrond and Galadriel are and how maternal she is toward him (to the point of possibly even raising him and Elros for a portion of their childhood depending on where you interpret the "beach event" to have happened in the timeline) so I'm wondering if this perhaps is another way to signal just how deep that affection and loyalty runs. That seems most likely to me.
The Pin:
The pin is another puzzle as it didn't seem to match with any of the major shapes. The four-point is unusual. Again, upon further digging, the only heraldry that uses a four pointed star with that really long tail is Gil-Galad's.
Tumblr media
So my guess is that the cloak designates that he's in service to Gil-Galad as a member of the heraldric "division" for lack of a better term, and the pin is a sign of status of being in direct service to Gil-Galad as chief herald-at-arms.
Thank you for the ask!

It’s dark. The moon has just risen and the night is alive with the sound of crickets, babbling water, and rustling leaves. You’ve gone deep into the woods up one of the red-colored walking trails that lead to the hot springs. It smells of minerals and sulfur. A fine mist sifts up from the green-colored water.
You’ve been sitting here a long time. You’re not even sure how long, really, except that you came up here when the sun was still setting. You’d come in the hopes that if you got away, you could find a sense of balance again. This time of year --when the leaves are turning color, when the animals are shoring up food for the coming cold months, when the air has a bite to it-- it’s so hectic. And so many things have changed and happened and you’re finding it difficult to keep up.
It’s sort of helping: being out here away from everyone. No one has bothered you or interrupted you. Normally that would be pleasant, but today it just means that you’re alone with your storming, whirling thoughts and competing emotions, frantically trying to process everything and failing.
You want Ada. But he’s even busier than you are, and you’re loath to bother him. Not to mention-- you’re grown. Far too old to pester him for help with something you ought to be able to manage on your own.
So here you are, alone, soaking your legs in the hot spring and trying not to feel like you’re going absolutely mad.
The wind rustles. The stars are partially obscured by the clouds rolling in. No doubt it’ll be foggy tomorrow. You might go for a walk in it. You like the way the world goes soft at the edges in Autumn.
After some time, a voice breaks into your thoughts.
“I thought I might find you here.”
You look up, surprised to see Elrond standing just behind you with his hands tucked behind his back. You hadn’t heard him come up the path. He’s always so quiet. You bite back a pleased smile and turn back to idly kick your legs in the water.
“Hello,” you say.
He takes a seat next to you in the grass among the fallen maple and oak leaves. “Hello.”
“I thought you were planning the Autumn festival with Erestor and Nana?”
Elrond hums and nods once. “I found something else more in need of my attention.”
“You’re busy,” you say at once.
“I am never too busy for my children,” he replies without missing a beat. “And you were thinking of me, were you not?”
You scrunch your nose and stare at him. He merely shrugs and reclines back onto his elbows in the grass, the crisp fallen leaves crunching beneath him.
“The bond?” you ask.
He hums again and nods.
“Sorry,” you say at once. “I didn’t mean to be that loud about it.”
“I was not asking for an apology, tithen pen. I am, believe it or not, here because I wish to be.”
You might not be so little anymore, but you can’t deny how secure he makes you feel. Like an anchor next to you, tethering you back to the ground. Or perhaps it’s more like a rope, in this particular instance, thrown to you when you’re drowning in the rapids of all the swirling chaos of the past month. Something solid to grasp onto.
You suck in a deep breath of the cool night air and it feels like the first real breath you’ve taken all season long. Your shoulders fall, and you close your eyes and listen to the crickets.
“Do you remember how we used to catch fireflies when you were little?” he asks. There’s a smile in his voice. When you look over at him, he has a fond expression on his face. He’s watching the little pinpoints of yellow light twirl and dip at the edge of the woods.
“Elladan caught one in his mouth and it came out his nose,” you say, exhaling a laugh.
He lets out a low chuckle. “I told him it was unwise.”
“As if he would listen.”
“Ai, none of you ever do.”
“I listen,” you scoff.
He shoots you a look drier than the deserts of Harad. “The irises? The riverbank?”
“I have not climbed down a muddy riverbank since.”
“And for that I am very grateful,” he replies with a quirk of his mouth.
He scoots a little to the left and beckons for you, and you take your legs out of the water and shuffle over, needing no further prompting to flop down on the grass next to him. The two of you shift around and adjust until you’re comfortably slotted up to his side, your head resting in the crook of his arm. He turns to press a firm, warm kiss to the top of your head and together you stare up at the canopy of stars glittering through the patchy cloud-cover.
It’s quiet again save for the crickets, the wind, and the hot springs. You can hear his heartbeat in your ear: steady, strong, and you can swear that he’s singing a tune under his breath. You feel it tug your own heartbeat into rhythm until the two of you are beating in time.
It’s a slow pace. Your breathing deepens and a tingling calmness spreads through your limbs as you trace the shapes in the stars above your head. It’s reminiscent of so many nights spent lying on the ground with him next to you, listening to songs and tales, talking about everything and nothing-- sometimes sitting in silence. He had pointed out the stars to you, taught you to call them by name, taught you their multitudes of constellations until you knew them by heart.
After a few minutes more of silence, he breaks it to softly say: “I know this past season has been difficult for you. Do not hold onto it so tightly, dear one.” His clever fingers card through your hair. His voice is low. You can still hear his heart. “Take a lesson from the trees and their changing colors. See?” He reaches over, holding up a crimson maple leaf to the starlight. “Look how beautiful it is to let dead things go. Seasons change. It will not always feel like this. I have seen many turns of the sun and felt the shift of two ages of the world. All will be well soon. In the meantime…” he reaches over to take your chin gently so you’ll look up at him. The starlight’s reflected in his gray eyes, and they pool with warmth and deep wisdom. “I am here with you. Whenever you need me to be. I promise.”
Tears well up in your eyes. It isn’t sadness; it’s catharsis. He croons a noise and rubs them away, kissing both your cheeks and holding you tightly enfolded in his arms. You stay like that for a long time as you count the constellations together. He doesn’t walk you back to the house until he’s sure you’re ready to return.

Kili took a deep breath, as he looked over Dale. The town was beautiful, and he was lucky to be able to look at it during sunrise, every day, before he had to get back to his duties.
He felt the soft wind, running through his hair, and sun glittered in his deep brown eyes. He thought of his wife and daughter, and his mouth had soft dreamy smile in second.
When Kili came back to their shared chambers, he noticed Tauriel, gently stroking their ten months old Y/N's cheek.
"How are my two beautiful girls?" He chuckled, and his eyes were soft, as he looked down at his daughter and wife.
"Papa!" Y/N suddenly let out, and Tauriel and Kili looked at each other in shock and surprise. Their daughter just said her first word!
"You did it, Y/N! You did it!" Kili cried out, and started dancing across the room with his daughter in his arms. You giggled, and Tauriel watched the moment with tears in her eyes.
Five years later
"Papa?"
"Hm?"
"What are you doing?" You frowned, when you noticed your father.
Kili was trying to make a surprise for Tauriel - his wife's birthday was a very special day to him, as well as your birthday - and this year, as any other, it was something sweet. Last year he made her a pair of twin daggers and got all her favourite sweets from bakeries around Dale.
This year, he decided to bake a cake.
Needless to say, it was very funny.
To watch, obviously.
You sat up on the chair, and Kili put his hands on his hips. You looked into the bowl, and giggled. You tasted a bit of it, and frowned.
"Uncle Fili said you can't bake, daddy." You shook your head. Kili nervously looked at you.
"What did uncle Fili say?" You looked at your dad, and decided to tell him everything.
"Well, Uncle Fili said you cannot bake, and that you only eat in the kitchen, and he was right," you said. Kili looked at the light-coloured dough.
"It is salty," you said, and Kili's eyes widened. He slapped his forehead.
"I really switched sugar and salt," Kili sat down to the table, and put his chin on his hands. You wanted to say something, but you noticed his eyes were filling with tears. You jumped off of the chair, and walked to him.
"Why are you crying, daddy?"
"I'm not crying," he said, and got up.
"Can I help you?" You gave him your best puppy-eye look, and Kili sighed.
You just had to get this from him.
"Okay."
When you finally finished the cake, the sun was rising, but you and Kili fell asleep, sitting by the table.
The finished cake was, however, worth it.
Twelve years later
"What did you say?" Kili frowned at you. You shrugged.
"What do you mean?" Kili's usually kind brown eyes had a spark of anger in them.
"That I don't care about you."
"Oh, this. Well, because it's true! You literally make any guy run away from me, and then you make me stay inside! How am I supposed to get to know at least one?"
"You have still enough time for boys." Your father shook his head, as if he tried to get out the idea of dating out as quickly as he could.
"Fine. But if anyone asks, it's your fault," you said half-upset, half-joking.
You almost opened the door, when you heard your father speak.
"You know I want you to have someone who truly loves you," you turned around.
"I...I, um..." Kili deeply sighed. He felt a bit of guilt about the misunderstanding.
"Sit down, please." You did as he said, and he gently took your hands to his.
"When I met your mother, I knew she was...the One. My One. I fell for her even more, when we talked for the first time. And a few years later, there was also you. I was holding you after you were born, and I promised I will make sure you will have the same kind of love, the person you will roll your eyes at, but know you wouldn't want them any other way."
"Dad, I-"
"I didn't mean to upset you. I'm just worried about you and want the best for you, but...the problem is, that in my eyes, nobody is good enough for you. I know you think it's the other way, but, it isn't. At least to me." You felt tears in your eyes.
"What do you think...mom would say?" You quietly whispered, as you felt tears in your eyes. He took a deep breath, probably to try to stop tears, too.
"Your mother would...secretly agree with me, but let you...let you go on an adventure, as long as you promise you are safe." Kili blinked to stop a tear, and sadly chuckled.
"You never know who you meet on an adventure."
You took his hands into yours, and gave him sad smile.
"She is alive. Trying to find her way back, from the orcs. Mom is a fighter."
"I believe too," he said, and looked outside. The sun slid across his face, and made his eyes spark, and showed you the way they used to shine when your mother was still there.
It's been a few months since you and your father talked, and you were on a ride from Hobbition. You liked to visit Bilbo and Frodo, and, as always, told each other news. When you almost got to Rivendell, you noticed someone lying down - with red hair. You stopped your horse, and jumped off of it.
You felt a rush of shock, when you realized who it was. She was full of cuts, but breathing.
You got to Rivendell safely, and when Lindir saw you, you let out just a whisper.
"Help her,"
You had no idea how did you end up in the working space of lord Elrond.
But, having soft blanket over your shoulders and sipping warm tea, after the shock, you wouldn't complain.
"Can I see her?" You whispered. Lord Elrond talked to a healer, and both of them looked at you.
"Your mother is asleep now," the healer carefully said. You nodded.
"Is she-"
"She is alive. We cleaned her injuries, and luckily, they were not even infected yet. You found her just in the right moment." You let out a breath. It felt like a huge weight fell off of your shoulders.
"Get some rest, princess Y/N. It will be good." The healer said, and helped you to get to other chambers, you guessed for guests. You laid down to bed, and fell asleep. You didn't even notice the healer turned around in the door, and slightly bowed, before he walked away.
You woke up into bright sunlight. You realized it was afternoon, and when you properly woke up, you found out you slept almost whole day and night.
When you took a bath and changed into light dress, you decided to go ask healer how was your mother doing.
You carefully knocked on the door. Someone slowly opened the door, and you realized it was the healer you already knew. After a short talk, he told you to get some rest. You decided to listen to him.
You didn't expect to fall asleep next to the bushes of lavender in Rivendell gardens, but the sweet, calming scent was strong.
You woke up with slight headache, and sat aside from the plants. You watched the sunset, and yawned. You also realized you haven't eaten whole day, and looked around for some fruit. You got up, and soon you found a few servants, who were actually looking for you, and as they mentioned dinner, you had no more questions.
At the dinner, you noticed the male healer you met earlier. You blushed when he noticed you looking at him, but he didn't do anything. Later, he catched your eyes again, and send you a tiny smile. You felt yourself smile as well.
After the dinner, Lindir walked you to your chambers. You took a bath, and when you got dressed, you opened your window and put a pillow and a blanket on the floor, to continue watching the sunset, and look at the stars. The sky was bright, and the fresh air made you feel lot better.
You got back to bed, but left the window open.
Your felt familiar smell, as you woke up. For a moment, you were five again, in your chambers in Erebor, and it was your birthday. Only other thing was the itchy feeling on your arms and legs.
Damn mosquitos.
"Mum?"
"I didn't mean to wake you, wildflower," you gasped and sat up, wide awake.
It was really her. Your mother, her red hair shining in the morning sun, looking at you.
Her face was full of cuts, which were in process of healing, and fading scars. Her hair was literally chopped off, now down to her chin.
Her green eyes were, however, full of motherly love. Just as you always knew them.
"This-this is a dream!" You let out a cry. She hug you tightly, and let out a cry too.
"I'm so glad you're safe..."
"What happened to you?" You whispered, as your arms tightened around her, afraid of it being just a dream.
"The orcs prisoned me, I tried to escape, but I was weak and didn't have any weapons. This time, I was finally lucky," she whispered, as she brushed your hair by her fingers.
"I'm here, Y/N. I promise it isn't a dream. I was fighting to run away every single day, and nothing could keep me away from you anymore."
Later that day, you sat down, to write a letter to Erebor.
Dear father,
I had to stay in Rivendell for longer, but, as you will find out - it was worth it...
Two years later
"Kili," Tauriel frowned at her husband. Kili looked at his wife with raised eyebrow.
"It's a boy, Tauriel!"
"And?"
"She's my little girl! She was born like...yesterday," Kili wiped off a tear from the corner of his eye.
"Well, our little girl is having a lovely partner. You will like him." Kili's eyes widened, and Tauriel tried not to laugh.
"You already met him? And didn't tell me?!"
"Well..." Tauriel would roll her eyes. Her husband was literally freaking out.
She didn't have the heart to tell him the reason you went to Rivendell or Mirkwood was because of your love, not because of political...anything.
Before she answered, you walked in, nervously smiling at both of them.
"I have, um...someone I want to introduce to you," you said. Your mother nodded at you with smile, and you sighed and patted your father's shoulder.
"It's fine, dad." You opened the door, and 'the elven healer from Rivendell', as you knew him two years ago, walked in.
"Mum, dad...this is, um, my boyfr-"
"Nice to meet you," Tauriel said, but looked at her husband by the corner of her eye.
"So...you are the elf my daughter is courting," Kili said, and you looked at your boyfriend. Him and your father were watching each other, and you gently took your lover's hand into yours, worried they might start fighting. Until...
They both broke a smile.
"Nice to meet you, Prince Kili. Y/N has told me a lot of good things about you."
"Y/N, would you come and prepare some tea with me?" Your mother asked you, and you both got out of the room.
You listened their conversation, talking about your meeting, and, your dad's, and your lover's, favourite - archery.
"I can't believe it!" You said, whispering.
"I know," your mother tried to hold in laugh.
"They literally-"
"Yes. Seems like they go along well."
"Now my dad will spend more time with my lover than I do," you pretend to be dramatic, but secretly you thought if it wouldn't be better if they didn't like each other.
You walked back in the room, with cups with steaming tea.
"Don't worry. Both of them know who are the best archers in the family," Your mother gave you a smile, and you proudly nodded, as you placed the cups down on table.
"That's not true, I always let you win!" They said at the same time, and you and your mother shared a look.
Later that day, you were with your father in the gardens. He was enjoying the quiet evening, and you were reading.
"Dad?"
"Hm?"
"You know...you said, about boys...that nobody would be good enough for me. In your eyes."
"Yeah." He nodded, and turned towards you.
"So, um...what do you think, now when you met my boyfriend?" You nervously waited for his answer.
"I think...I would never expect to say this, but...I approve him." You let out a laugh.
"Just because you're both good at archery?" He rolled his eyes.
"I wanted to say he seems to be very nice, but that too. We gotta keep the skill in family, don't we?" You shook your head and snorted with laugh.
"As well as recognizing elf men and elf maids." You started laughing when you noticed your father's wide eyes and flushed cheeks under his beard.
"Who told you that story?"
"Well...Uncle Fili has told me many interesting stories from your adventures," you said. Your father quickly stood up.
"Uncle Fili will quickly be reminded of what does it feels like to have younger brother," Your father muttered, as he walked inside the castle.

Okay, it’s time for a long #meta?.. headcanon?.. Silm post.
It will be… very historical and full of pedigrees, but it will explain the weird situation with multiple elven kings and Turgon being the High King of Noldor after Fingon. Seriously, it’s a long post, but I promise, it all works out in the end.
Let’s star from the very beginning. I had a nice talk with @quixoticanarchy and @nereb-and-dungalef about the Lay of Leithian rock-opera translation, and they mentioned the word, that we translated as “prince”, because it was the best substitute we could find. The original word is “князь”(knyaz’) and it’s a very specific historical term.  It is used for Russian rulers in a period of feudalism. Here begins the historical part.
I bet you know about feudalism in Europe - Middle Ages, knights, vassal relationship, liege lords, fortresses, the Hundred Years’ War, Richard the Lionheard, and so on, and so forth. The same(kinda) situation(only without knights, vassal relationship, liege lords, the Hundred Years’ War andRichard the Lionheard) was in Eastern Europe. There were A LOT OF small principalities and even more people who ruled or could be rulers there(in fact, every principality was like a small country, with its own laws, army, everything). Now, among all these principalities, was one, being the ruler of which was considered the coolest and the most prestigious thing possible(if you’re this ruler, you are called “the great knyaz’”, everyone else obeys you). No wonder all rulers were fighting to be the ruler of this #1 land(Kyiv, later Vladimir, later Tver’, later Moscow). Not everything this simple though. There was an official order of succession: if the ruler of the land #1 dies, the ruler of the land #2 takes his place(the rules #3 takes the place of the ruler #2, #4 takes the place of #3, etc). Now begins the pedigrees part.
All rulers belonged to one dynasty(so you can’t be one if you’re not related to them). And there was the order of succession(you can call it a rating): dad ->oldest brother(dad’s son) -> second brother -> third brother -> oldest brother’s oldest son -> oldest brother’s second son -> second brother’s oldest son -> … -> oldest brother’s oldest son’s oldest son -> etc.. Dad rules in the land #1, his oldest son - in the land #2, second son - land #3, etc.(I believe it's called "rota system", at least, it's what my dictionary says, but I could be wrong).
Sounds pretty logical, and also VERY complex. Well, let me tell you about three aspects that make this system easier. The first aspect: if your dad didn’t manage to become the great knyaz’, you, your brothers, your and their descendants lose your right to be the great knyaz’(forever). You can rule only in lands your father ruled in. The second aspect: only legitimate children(sons) can rule(no children from the second, third, fifth, etc. marriage). The third aspect: as it often happens, women don’t count, as well as you can’t rule if your mother, not father is from this ruler’s dynasty.
At this stage, the whole situation finally becomes clear and we can dive into Silm meta part. I suggest Noldor had the same order of succession. So in theory it should have been like this: Finwe -> Feanor -> Maedhros -> Maglor -> the rest of the sons -> Celebrimbor -> the end of the dynasty, with no Fingolfin, Finarfin and others, because they are descendants of Indis(second marriage!). And it was like this until Maedhros waived his claim to kingship. So Fingolfin became the High King, and the order of succession changed to Fingolfin -> Fingon -> Turgon -> Finrod -> (Orodreth) -> Angrod -> Aegnor -> Gil-Galad -> Maeglin -> Earendil -> Elrond, with no Feanorians, possibly no Arafinweans(Finarfin is High King in Valinor, not in Beleriand), possibly no Maeglin, Earendil and his descendants(no matriheritage).
Unfortunately we don’t know if this system worked with lands, because mostly elven kingdoms fell with their lords(you can’t rule in Barad Eithel if there’s no Barad Eithel). But in my honest opinion, it would be fun to see Finrod packing all his jewels and moving to Gondolin after Turgon became High King and moved to Barad Eithel.
The End :)

Here’s some of my favorite Silmarillion fics!
Series
The Ever-Fixéd Star by EirianErisdar
Gen, Kidnap dads, Nerdanel/Fëanor
Maglor dies protecting Rivendell, and Fëanor and his sons are sent to the void. Elrond attempts to free them. Lots of family bonding, and of course, some angst that still’s unresolved because the creator hasn’t updated the second story yet. It’s heartbreaking at points. Probably my favorite fic series ever. Long but so worth it.
Aurë entuluva by ScribeofArda
Fingon/Maedhros, Maedhros + his brothers + a couple OCs, some more things I won’t spoil
A Nirnaeth Arnoediad fix-it series with a time loop. Maedhros suffers a little (a lot). Fingon cares for him so much. There’s also some wonderful family bonding. Long, but you should absolutely catch up to be able to read the new fic when it updates. I’m looking forward to Curufin’s story. Ongoing. Current story is a Thangorodrim rescue and recovery fic.
Meanwhile in Ost-in-Edhil by elennalore
Celebrimbor/Annatar
I feel like the tag ‘Poor Celebrimbor’ sums this up really well.
Modern Mayhem by protisvit
Fingon/Maedhros, Celegorm + Aredhel
A reddit post is turned into Russingon. Some other things I’ve read but don’t remember. Celegorm is chaotic.
Ships
Beguiled by One by Verecunda
Melkor/Mairon
Mairon is seduced by Melkor in Almaren. Poor Mairon. I read this between classes and couldn’t stop thinking about it.
a refuge from a sweeping wind, from a tempest by aikanaro
Caranthir/Haleth
Caranthir and Haleth have kids. Lots of fluff. Read this one at midnight when I had a Halenthir phase for about 2 hours before Curufinrod took over.
Diary of An Elven Lord by Lady_Gavroche
Caranthir + his brothers, Caranthir + dwarves, Caranthir/Haleth
Mostly gen, but Halenthir is in there. Caranthir broods about his life and family. Pretty funny.
How long is eternity? by Ysilme
Glorfindel/Erestor
Erestor gets kidnapped, and Glorfindel is desperate to find him. Erestor’s POV is a little anxiety-inducing at times.
scraps of dark in a starshrewn night by Solanaceae
Lúthien/Thuringwethil, Lúthien/Beren
Lúthien tells a story and Thuringwethil listens. I thought this one was pretty interesting.
The Stillness Obscured by JazTheBard
Maeglin/Túrin, Maeglin + Túrin + Túrin’s family
Túrin ends up in Nan Elmoth and is betrothed to Maeglin, who attempts to smuggle him out multiple times. Eöl is awful. It’s great. The tag ‘dubious baby acquisition’ is always a sign it’ll be a good fic.
The Magnificent Heart by ObtuseDunderfuck
Gil-Galad/Oropher, Oropher + Thranduil
Gil-Galad and Oropher love each other, but Gil-Galad is an asshole and problems ensue. Oropher has to deal with a pining fool. Elrond is as amazing as ever. Ongoing.
In the Bleak Midwinter by Harp_of_Gold
Maeglin/Celebrimbor
Maeglin lived through the Fall of Gondolin and is found outside Celebrimbor’s camp. They both learn how to get along again. It’s really sweet and interesting and also kinda sad.
The Legend-Makers by  AdmirableMonster (Mertiya), HoundsofValinor
Fingon/Maedhros, Elrond/Celebrían + their kids + Maglor
Elrond tells his sons a bedtime story about love and friendship - how Maedhros saved his husband from an evil monster. Incredibly enjoyable, kept me on the edge of my seat.
The One More Likely by Ulan (you need to log in to an account to read this one)
Glorfindel/Erestor
Glorfindel leaves notes on Erestor’s desk, not knowing Erestor had a crush on him. Lots of drama ensues. Gave me a lot of feels.
Gen
Woven in Dreams by Lithgaeril
Caranthir + his parents + Curufin, Caranthir + Míriel
Caranthir meets his grandmother and discovers his craft. One of my favorite fics, it’s super sweet. Fëanor cares about his children.
brother dearest, i need some clout so pls model for my next instagram product placement? by protisvit, zuo_zuo
Maglor + Maedhros
Maedhros is sent to bring Maglor back to Valinor during modern times. Maglor is having a great time. Implied Russingon but it’s not really a big deal and is barely mentioned. A really funny fic, I really enjoyed it. I’ve reread it many times. The art in it is great.
Of Breaking by JazTheBard
Maeglin + Celebrimbor
Maeglin and Celebrimbor bond in the Halls while looking at the tapestries. This fic made me ship them, even though it’s only about friendship.
Jailbird by JazTheBard
Maglor + Boromir + Faramir, some more I won’t spoil
Maglor is captured and lives in a tower in Gondor. He adopts more children and has a crisis. A good late night read.
Say NO To Shiny (And Other Valuable Life Lessons) by fflewddur_feanorion
Maglor + The Fellowship + every character they meet along the way
Maglor joins the Fellowship and is dramatic. Regularly updated.
Unwanted Advice by certain_as_the_sun
Fëanor + E&E, Elrond + his sons + Fëanor, E&E + Kidnap dads (mostly Maglor)
Fëanor is a disembodied spirit and haunts Elrond and his family, the only ones who can see him. This one is funny, but there’s a specific moment that I thought was really sad.
who could ask to be unbroken (or to be brave again) by Piyo13
Tauriel + Maglor, Tauriel + OC
Tauriel meets Maglor out in the woods and bonds with him. He’s the most parental figure-like Fëanorian I guess.

Note
1) Someone’s personality is very likely to change at least a bit over the course of 6,500 years.
2)Tolkien never said that elves have long hair
This reads like bait, but what the hell, let’s go back to Tolkien and see what he says, shall we? It’s been a while since I’ve gotten out the ol’ Silmarillion, so I thank you for the excuse, anon, this was a lot of fun :)
An abridged summary of and commentary on the chapter “Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age” in The Silmarillion, focusing on the passages which relate to Elrond, with references to The Lord of the Rings:
Second Age Review
SA 1: Fall of Thangorodrim and the breaking of Beleriand! Many of the Eldar go to live in Lindon, “Gil-Galad son of Fingon was their king, and with him was Elrond Half-elven, son of Eärendil the Mariner and brother of Elros first king of Númenor.”
Alright, young Elrond’s with Gil-Galad. Nothing much to remark upon there, we all know it. Some mention of his family (y’know, in case we forgot in one chapter that his dad is Eärendil the guy who sailed the Straight Path and got the aid of the Valar against Morgoth and then slew Ancalagon the Black and who also happens to be the heir of both the House of Hador and Turgon’s line), but that’s neither here nor there.
So what about the Eldar who didn’t settle in Lindon under Gil-Galad? What are they doing? Well, there’s a good number who sail to Eressëa. Some cross Ered Luin to the inner lands, many of which are Teleri and explicitly survivors of Doriath and Ossiriand. Huh, I wonder which character is not only the direct descendant of the kings of Doriath, but is also one of the only surviving Elvish descendants, and didn’t seize the opportunity to lead the remnants of his people who didn’t seem content to live under Gil-Galad’s rule.
SA 750: We have the establishment of Eregion, primarily the Noldor under Galadriel, Celeborn, and Celebrimbor. Celebrimbor, in particular, establishes strong friendships with the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm.
Yes, Amazon, it was Celebrimbor who established a friendship with the Dwarves, long before there were any rings of power involved.
So it seems that around the start of the Second Age for about 750 years, there were Elves splitting off into various groups. Some heading West, some going East, setting up their own realms and alliances, the Avari minding their own business. We’ve got Oropher and Thranduil heading up both the Teleri and the Silvan elves, Celebrimbor in Eregion, and Celeborn and Galadriel first in Lindon and then splitting off to Eregion as well.
If we step back a chapter to the Akallabêth, we also see that Elros chose mortality and became king of Númenor, which is more or less the closest you can come to Valinor in Middle-Earth, and is indeed described as a little closer to the former than the latter. The people of Númenor are divinely blessed by the Valar, depicted as possibly the greatest height of mortal civilization ever seen, powerful enough that Sauron, a literal fallen angel feared them. And to think young politically ambitious Elrond chose not to be a king of Men!
Alright, but maybe he’s a bit young and inexperienced. Maybe he didn’t know how to leverage any of his many family ties or the considerable reputation of his father the literal Evening Star. Maybe he didn’t know how great the people of Númenor would become! This argument is kind of weak because Elros was the exact same age when he managed to do a pretty bang up job of uniting different Edain groups, ruling them, and building a new kingdom. But let’s say Elrond was not as politically deft as his brother (except…the show's description is of a canny politician?) Let’s fast forward a couple hundred years, shall we?
SA 1200: Here comes Annatar, everyone’s favourite deceiver! He’s here to rule them all, to find them and bring them all and in the darkness bind them, you know the gist. And he’s welcomed by the Eldar, especially in Eregion where “the Noldor desired ever to increase the skill and subtlety of their works.” Sauron’s good, he offers custom temptations. Want to tempt some craftspeople? Show them knowledge of smithing and magical craft, offer many gifts. And it works! He’s welcomed everywhere!
Except for Lindon, that is. Gil-Galad and Elrond, “they doubted him and his fair-seeming” and he’s not even allowed in Lindon. So, firstly, it seems like Elrond already has a fair bit of influence; it’s implied that he and Gil-Galad made that decision together. He could be a very trusted advisor, or as good as unofficial co-ruler, but whatever it is, he’s not exactly someone lacking political influence. “But having power’s never stopped someone from wanting more!” I hear all you cynics out there say. Well alright, if he wants more power, why not take up Annatar’s offer, or at least not burn that bridge? Which leads into secondly, when Sauron is (quite successfully) tempting the other Elves with knowledge and power, neither Gil-Galad nor Elrond want any of it? Won’t even entertain the gifts that Annatar offers?
SA 1600-1697: Okie doke, so Sauron makes the Ring and Celebrimbor figures out what he really is. Open war breaks out 93 years later, and two years later, in 1695, Gil-Galad sends Elrond to Eregion. Two more years later, in 1697, Sauron has overrun Eregion, killed Celebrimbor, and forced Elrond into retreat with the remnants of the Noldor. It’s at this time that Imladris is founded as a stronghold and a refuge.
Little is said of Elrond during the Second Age after this. A lot of shit goes down with Númenor, as detailed in the Akallabêth, and the next time Elrond reappears in the narrative is in 3431, nearly 2000 years later, when the Last Alliance is formed and Gil-Galad and Elendil march to Imladris and muster their troops there. From other sources, including Elrond’s own monologue in Fellowship of the Ring, we know he was part of the Last Alliance and that he fought in the war and that afterwards, he and Círdan counselled Isildur to destroy the Ring, but did not press the issue. Also at some point before his death, Gil-Galad entrusted Elrond with Vilya, one of the three Elven Rings.
Discussion
So what do we learn from all this? Well, we see that despite multiple opportunities throughout the Second Age to make a play for power, he doesn’t. He doesn’t really need to in the first place, Gil-Galad obviously holds him and his opinions in high esteem. He doesn’t make a play for king of the Sindar or king of the Noldor, or even High King of the Eldar after Gil-Galad’s death, despite being related to almost all the Eldar kings. He doesn’t split off and start his own realm when everyone else is doing it at the start of the Second Age. Several hundred years later, when a group of Noldor split off from Gil-Galad’s rule and go with Galadriel, Celeborn, and Celebrimbor to Lindon, we don’t see Elrond taking advantage of the opportunity with them.
In fact, he only establishes his own place while he’s on the run from Sauron, and it essentially starts out as a refugee camp. Even later, Imladris was never a vast and stretching realm - it's pretty much a valley and maybe some of the surrounding lands; no borders on the map, just a dot. And even with the rule of Imladris, he still remains in Gil-Galad’s service, serving as his herald with no apparent complaints.
I mean sure, you could take the cynical view and argue that the narrative doesn’t show everything, that the narrative is biased, that Second Age Elrond was pulling a very long con and putting up some kind of facade of humility. But in a story that’s all about hope, that’s about characters in the midst of horrible events choosing to do good, to do better than has been done to them, why would you go that route? Some stories explore realism and even cynicism, characters with complex motives and behaviours, and those are fine and good! But Tolkien’s brand of fantasy has never been about that, not even The Silmarillion, which could be subtitled “Everyone Behaving Badly.”
We do have politically ambitious characters in The Silmarillion. There are tons of them, bucket loads of them. Most of them end up dead, but let’s look at one famous example that survived. Her name is Galadriel, and her character journey from The Silmarillion all the way up to and through Lord of the Rings has been about pride and ambition. And her personality has changed "at least a little bit" over those thousands of years, the Galadriel we see in Lord of the Rings is a great deal less ardent and militant than the Galadriel who left Valinor to rule her own kingdom. Even then, her ambition for power is something she continues to struggle with, as we see with the Ring's test.
Galadriel is a politically ambitious character whose personality has certainly changed across the thousands of years she’s been alive. And the thing is, her pride and ambition were very active during the Second Age! She would not go back to Valinor when the Valar offered a pardon, but stayed in Middle-Earth where she eventually split off from Gil-Galad and took a portion of the Noldor to Eregion, and then later on, took up rule in Lothlórien. Literally, Galadriel is right there if the series wants a canny political player who is canonically eager for power.
Conclusions
I’m actually fine with departures from Tolkien. I’m not in the camp that thinks we need to follow every single thing he writes, especially when it comes to things like race. Hell, it’s not even really possible to follow everything Tolkien wrote because he could change his mind a half dozen times on the same thing! Go ahead and explore a character more deeply, or come up with creative interpretations of the worldbuilding, or flesh out some aspect of the story you want to know more about.
But as with fan works, there’s a point (and this is a highly personal and subjective point) when it departs from the story so much that it’s no longer recognizable as the same story or characters you fell in love with. It's not necessarily a bad thing - there have been adaptations that departed drastically from Tolkien but have been entertaining stories in their own right. It’s just something different. For me, “politically ambitious” not only fails to resemble anything we know about Elrond from any of Tolkien’s writings, but it’s a character interpretation that I’m not excited about. Of all the directions they could have taken Elrond -his ties to Númenor; working through his family history; being a loremaster in a world where so much knowledge has been lost or destroyed; becoming a great healer- they had to go the ambitious politician route?
Solely in regards to Elrond, I’m not terribly impressed by the creative direction they've chosen to go with him.
+ A Note On Appearances
It's true, I’ll grant you that Tolkien never said Elves couldn’t have short hair. But if we want to play the game of quoting Tolkien, we could also say that “His hair was dark as the shadow of twilight…his eyes were grey as a clear evening, and in them was a light like the light of stars.” (“Many Meetings,” Fellowship of the Rings)
So if you want to go by what Tolkien did and did not say, Elrond should unequivocally have dark hair and grey eyes, full stop. He should also resemble Luthien, since Arwen is said to be “the likeness of Luthién” and also “so like was she in form of womanhood to Elrond that Frodo guessed she was one of his close kindred.”
But hey, who’s to say he didn’t dye his hair?

My Misconceptions Before Reading the Silmarillion
A little bit of backstory here, the first time I've ever heard of the Silmarillion was when the Hobbits movies first came out and I, who had not seen LOTR for an Age (no, just a really long time, don't worry) got really curious about Elrond because he was called Elrond Half-Elven. So, like any person who wanted to procrastinate on their assignments I opened the Wikia and then got stranded to tolkiengateway and read Elrond's backstory and Galadriel's and Gandalf's and understood absolutely nothing. So I found out about the Silmarillion and was like "oh so there's some background novel, cool".
But needless to say, because I read all these major characters background without context I had some misunderstandings about what several things were (which were cleared up in the Silm) and thought things were A, whereas they were not. So here are several of my misconceptions:
I thought the Sons of Fëanor were a cult. I'm talking about Faceless Men kind of cult, like I thought they were this group of people who worshipped Fëanor who was like a god of death or something since it was mentioned that they killed a lot of people.
I thought Elrond and by extension, Elros, were like unwanted changeling children who were kinda regarded as abominations by human society because of their elvish blood. I mean, the Sons of Fëanor found them in like some waterfall cave and I instantly thought "holy shit their parents just ditched them".
I thought Elrond fought his way to freedom à la Gladiator style. Like, literally "kill this opponent if you wanna be free" so then I was like in my single braincelled mind, "wow Elrond is a fucking badass assassin" (to be clear, I still really love and respect Elrond but not for 'assassin'-y reasons).
Galadriel's brothers were hippy adventurers. Now this came about because it was mentioned that Finrod (who I just called Brother #1 back then) liked to travel and when Galadriel asked him if he wanted to settle down he was like "no" and Galadriel was like "okay".
I DID NOT. AND I MEAN, DID NOT UNDERSTAND THAT THERE WERE THREE ELVEN KINDREDS AND THAT KILLING WAS A BIG NO NO. So when I saw like this art of who I later learned was Fëanor pointing a sword at who I later learned was Fingolfin (I called Fëanor 'red elf' and Fingolfin 'blue elf'), I just thought they were these two random elf politicians who had a disagreement and that the Kinslaying at Alqualondë was like the usual city sacking that happened in wars.
I did not understand that Valinor was like a separate island, I thought that it was a place on Middle Earth. Which was why like the dumbass I am, I opened a map of Third Age Middle-Earth and was like "where is Alqualondë? Where is Sirion? Huh?? WHERE IS THAT DAMN WATERFALL WHERE ELROND GOT PICKED UP BY A CULT?!"
I thought Nàmo was like the gatekeeper to hell and was very jealous when he was like "Oh, Lúthien you don't deserve to go to hell" (AGAIN, THIS WAS WHAT I THOUGHT HE SAID).
I thought Beren and Lúthien was the elf version of Romeo and Juliet. Enough said.
I thought Gondolin was like this Atlantis for the Elves that got destroyed by natural disasters.
I thought the Silmarils were like the Rings of Power but 10 times better and that's why everyone wanted them. Oh and I also thought they were like fallen stars and mystical things like that and Elven Blacksmith (Fëanor) harvested them or something.
I thought Manwë was Ingwë, Finwë, and Elwë's dad.
So, naturally all this was cleared up by actually reading the Silmarillion but I just thought to share this because I really don't know. Maybe I just want to see if I'm not the only person who like misunderstood things.
Have a nice day!

Trying to explain the Silmarillion to someone is like
“Ok so there are these guys see. They’re like gods but there’s this big god who’s like. The boss. And the little gods all do what he says. I mean...kind of. Anyway one of the little gods is a stupid dumbhead and decides he wants to have the power, and then...uhhh wait I think I’m getting mixed up. ANYWAY there are these good elves and like these...rebel??? Elves??? no wait that’s later. But the good elves—well one of them. He used to be good. He makes these things called the Silmarils, which are like. Really cool jewel things. And then he’s stupid and he somehow gets the Silmarils taken so then the good elves rebel. Yeah. Wait am I getting this wrong?? And they leave Valinor—oh did I not explain that? Valinor is where all the little gods live and the elves—but anyway the elves rebel and they go to Beleriand and a whole lotta trash happens and there’s hatred and death and sadness and curses and death and more hatred and death and a lot of stuff that I could maybe explain if I had like fifty years? Oh and did I mention there’s death. OH and you learn about Numenor and Elrond’s dad who is a star—you know the light Galadriel gives Frodo?? yeah that’s Elrond’s dad. I mean...his dad’s light. yeah. But anyway there’s a lotta cool stuff and there’s Beleg and Maeglin is a stupid idiot and there are a ton of dumb bloodthirsty elves but we love them...you know you should probably just read the book and then you’ll understand”

For the commentary ask - Five Gil-Galads?
Five out of the infinity of potential Gil-Galads. The Gil-Galad multiverse.
Darkness is underrated in elven philosophy. Light might be where the fëa dwells in hopeful times but darkness is where it rests and recovers.
Darkness as a healing space is an important concept. Light gives me migraines so perhaps I'm biased but there's something so restful about the dark. Our eyes need it to recover, and I'd argue our souls do as well. Anyone who has spent extended periods of time surrounded by very bright lights can attest that 90% of Valinor's problems probably could have been solved by giving them an actual nighttime to calm down in.
“There have been stranger marriages, especially among the Noldor.” This is said not with the sharp mistrust of one of the wood elves, who have always half resented Finwë for bringing Fëanor down upon them, but with the wit of a good tempered Noldorin cynic.
They should be allowed to make fun of themselves. After getting dragged across two continents all the Noldor deserve to do some polite mockery of their royalty.
The smile on their other companion does dim somewhat. “Friend, you must be mistaken. I have been Gil-Galad all my life.”
They are so polite to each other even when they're accusing the others of being lying spectres. Gil-Galad, my heart.
“Yes, I know,” the new Gil-Galad joins their small group. “I wouldn’t want me here if I were you. It’s a terrible complication. If it helps I think I might have an idea about the root of our shared dilemma.”
He’s also short, this interloper, and he has hair of a rich dark gold, a honeyed Vanyarin beauty rarely seen on this side of the sea in latter years. Even his voice is musical.
Finduilas-as-a-Gil-Galad is fun because she actually has a description, she's Vanya looking but also looks like Nienor who looks like Hurin. Also, since she's got several years more life experience and one stabbing on the other Gil-Galads she gets to be the wise one.
He barely needs to ask, even bringing up Lord Círdan’s name soothes their tempers.
Dad time! It felt at points like I didn't mention Cirdan enough, given what a big impact he seems to have had on Gil-Galad. However he's grownup and, during this story, under some pressure.
Orodrethion leans in. “Then you have stumbled on Mandos’ first club for people with the name Ereinion.”
If Gil-Galad is Orodreth's son he should be allowed to inherit Orodreth's secret skill for making very mean jokes.
“And Galadriel truly did not mind?” That’s the part he keeps coming back to. He loves his cousin but she’s a torch. You hold her up for light, you don’t hold her close.
“Not overly. A bit miffed but she has her own kingdoms to play with. Besides, if she wanted to be High King of the Noldor perhaps she should have tried ill-advised fraud before I did.”
The best Gil-Galad/Galadriel relationship in my opinion is one where they actually shouldn't be within twenty miles of each other, for the same reason that you don't want two stars on a collision course with each other. They're both very good at what they do (ruling people) and not so good at what they want the other one to do (listening sometimes). Depending on the timeline this might be Galadriel's fault, she just mentored him too well. Their letters are very long and very gossipy and their opinion of the other is very high and one time they did end up challenging each other to a duel over refugee camp arrangements.
This is also a pretty good explanation for why Elrond and Celebrian apparently didn't meet until centuries into their adulthoods.
“We are not promised death.” Círdanion tells him, eyes deep and serious the way Elrond’s get at times. “We are promised Arda. No strangeness is excluded from it. No echo fails to fit into the greater song. Even this. Even us. We have played a part.”
Lalwendion takes a sip and grimaces. It tastes like ghost wine, like a memory and not a sensation. “And what will they sing of us? Hopefully that we were terribly handsome and brave about the burning alive thing.”
Círdanion must think on that for a while. “That we did what was asked of us until no one could ask any more. And now we have no one but ourselves to look askance to.”
A long chunk but a good one. Cirdanion (who is secretly an El twin) being ominous about fate, as is his birthright. A very offhand mention of their horrific death. And the "ourselves to look askance to" part is referencing both the idea of Mandos as a place for self reflection, and in this case the literal self-reflection they're engaged in, interrogating warped mirrors of themselves, looking for the links between. In this case the link is duty and the demand of the Noldor. When you need a High King sometimes you build one yourself.

Unless stated otherwise, my stories are all purely of platonic relationships between reader and the characters. Sometimes between the character(s) and my OCs.

14, 15, 19, 21, and 22 for the end of year fic asks!
end of the year fic asks! I love doing these, lmao >:]
14: a fic you didn’t expect to write
That one's hard because it's all of them and none of them. When I get ideas they're almost always spur of the moment, and yet all of them seem very... right? Expected? Out of all of them the one I least expected to get recognition was my most viewed and liked fic, All The Ways To Love, which I am still shocked by. I still have absolutely no idea what I did right so let me know!
15: something you learned this year
that my fics with recurring OCs are okay to publish, I've always been very self-conscious about posting them and the support I've gotten has been wonderful!
19: any new fics to start next year
So many. I'll need help prioritizing but: - (continuing not starting) my longfic about rembodiment Da Capo El Coda - Modern AU about Maedhros's Angband experience (right now called "oh no" in my drafts) - A kidnap dads exploration of Maedhros and Elrond, Maglor and Elros and what they need that they find in each other - HAIR KINK NOLDOR - kidnap dads hurt/comfort - russingon and makaráto (general idea but many many many fics hopefully) - feanorian brother kidfic exploring how each of the different brothers expresses their love and work together
21: most memorable comment/review
Oooooh, so hard to choose, I've gotten so many lovely ones (and every single one always feels amazing, comments are instant serotonin). But I think maybe the best one is (incidentally) is from @arofili on my fic What I Am (When I'm With You) (honorable mention of sisters_of_the_moon for August of last year sending me one of the most beautiful comments ever on my fic Learn Your Place)
22: events you participated in this year
Oh my gosh, so many... lets see: Gen Freeform, MSV, Innumerable Stars, TSRB, Tolkien Secret Santa, and there's probably a few I'm forgetting. I've loved every single one of them too!
Thanks so much! Send in an ask if you want to hear any more from this prompt list for year in review fic asks!
