If you have handfuls of favorites, what are some of your favorite movies? Do you have a list of stahl-herz approved recs?
Lol, Stahl-Herz approved! Ok, so most movies I watch once and I'm ok with not watching another time. There are exceptions! In no particular order:
The Mark of Zorro from 1940 Starring Tyrone Powers. There is a three minute fight scene between Basil Rathbone and Tyrone and you're on the EDGE of your scene the entire time! They're knocking over things and dodging attacks! I had to pester my cousin for a week to watch it with me because he had the mindset that 'black and white movies are boring' and I was really happy when I saw that he was enjoying himself when he watched it!
1986 Transformers Movie - The visuals of the opening remind me of a painting. Also the soundtrack is 80's hair metal and synth - 90% of the reason why I love the movie, haha.
The Princess Bride. It's a classic for a reason. Need I say more?
The Dictator by and starring Charlie Chaplin. It's his only movie with sound! And the speech that he gives at the end of the movie is really good!
Sailor Moon The Movie The Promise of the Rose. Nostalgia mainly, this was my introduction to Sailor Moon! The scene where she uses the crystal to stop the meteor from crashing into earth will always stay in my head!
Castle in the Sky, as well as most Ghibli movies! Castle in the Sky was my first Ghibli movie. I was at a friend's house and they asked if I had ever watched it before. I said 'no' and she went to the computer and searched it up on Youtube. This was back when you could watch movies on there without it being an at least 20, 10 minute parts.
RRR. A movie that came out two years ago and it's three hours long! But it's so over the top that it goes back around to being hilarious! Also I love the historical fiction aspect of it as well as the songs!
The Son of Monte Cristo (1940) starring Joan Bennett and Louis Hayward. This one comes from that one camping trip that I was bored and the only movie that my aunt had to watch was a TCM dvd that had a version of Cerano de Bergerac as well as The Son of Monte Cristo. I watched it a handful of times and enjoyed it, even though I had to skip a scene or two because the dvd was scratched and it'd get stuck on some scenes.
White Christmas starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen. It's always a classic movie to watch around christmas time. The songs are really good as well.
Scooby Doo and KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery (and most of the other Scooby Doo movies). This one is so fun to watch! The scene were KISS reveals that their aliens that use the power of rock and roll to fight evil, AND the fact that their spaceship is shaped like a guitar will always be hilariously cool! Also can't forget the music! The 'I was Made for Loving You' scene will always be what I think of now whenever I hear that song, haha!
I did not expect this list to be this long! The question is referencing this ask . Thank you for the question!

Isobel Elsom and Ida Lupino in Ladies in Retirement (Charles Vidor, 1941)
Cast: Ida Lupino, Louis Hayward, Evelyn Keyes, Elsa Lanchester, Edith Barrett, Isobel Elsom, Emma Dunn, Queenie Leonard, Clyde Cook. Screenplay: Garrett Fort, Reginald Denham, based on a play by Denham and Edward Percy. Cinematography: George Barnes. Production design: Lionel Banks. Music: Ernst Toch.
Ladies in Retirement, a nifty little thriller included in the Criterion Channel's "Noir by Gaslight" series, centers on a steely performance by Ida Lupino. She plays Ellen Creed, a Victorian spinster trying to make a life for herself and her two eccentric sisters, Emily (Elsa Lanchester) and Louisa (Edith Barrett). The sisters have been living in London with a family that has become fed up with them, so Ellen is forced to persuade her employer to let them come live with her in a somewhat gloomy house on the edge of a marshland. The employer, whom Ellen serves as a kind of companion/housekeeper, is the imperious Leonora Fiske (Isobel Elsom), a retired "actress." (We later learn that she was only a fourth-from-the-right chorus girl, who managed to accumulate a small fortune from stage door johnnies and wealthy patrons.) Unfortunately, the sisters manage to alienate Leonora as well. Louisa is batty and hypersensitive, and Emily is brusque and a collector of things she picks up on her walks, like shells and birds' nests and even a dead bird, which she leaves scattered around the house that Leonora bullies the maid-of-all-work, Lucy (Evelyn Keyes), to keep immaculate. Ellen knows that she can't make a living for herself and her sisters, and she doesn't want them sent to an asylum, so she decides to take things, which means Leonora's neck, in her own hands. Curtain on act one. (The stage origins of the movie are apparent throughout.) Enter Albert Feather (Louis Hayward), a somewhat distant relative of the Creed women, who calls Ellen "Auntie" and charms the sisters. He also charms Lucy. Albert has been to the house before, while Ellen was in London collecting her sisters, and managed to flatter Leonora into giving him some money. But now he's on the lam, wanted for embezzlement from the bank where he worked. When he finds that Leonora is gone -- "on a trip," as the story goes -- he begins to suspect that Ellen is hiding something. And so the plot hinges on his quest to uncover Ellen's secrets, with the aid of the infatuated Lucy. It's a nicely paced movie, with fine performances, especially by Barrett and Lanchester as the weird sisters. Though remembered today more as a director than as an actor, Lupino, then in her early 20s, excels in a part that had been played on Broadway by the much older Flora Robson. Although Louisa and Emily are the more flamboyantly mad of the sisters, Lupino manages to hint that Ellen is the maddest of them all.

Andrea Belfi - Eternally Frozen - Bathe your ears in the mellow sonority of strictly low-end brass - tuba, trombone, & French horn
Eternally Frozen consists of a series of canon based compositions for brass ensemble, percussion and synthesizer by Andrea Belfi. The canon is an ancient compositional technique in which an initial melody is imitated at a specified time interval by one or more parts, creating illusionary never-ending musical journeys. The work is inspired by the evocative image of the Deprong Mori, a mythological bat with the alleged ability to fly through solid matter by bending atoms by its natural skill of audio echolocation. The myth suggests that one of these bats had been “eternally frozen” in a wall of solid lead in 1952 by the researcher of the Rockefeller University, Donald R. Griffith. This story is exhibited in a display at the Museum of Jurassic Technology in Los Angeles, an institution renowned for both speculative, fantastical reinforcement of mythology and playful and beguiling distortions of mysterious could-be truths. Both the canon and the “frozen” Deprong Mori are man-made illusory simulations of eternity. Their attempt is to create mirages, where the insinuation of facts is more meaningful than the reality. After many years of sonic explorations with percussion, drums, and electronics, Belfi is here projecting himself as a composer through the direction of an astonishing brass ensemble in the realization of these canonic works. There are evident echoes of the works of Arthur Russell, Miles Davis, Moondog, William Basinski, and the Italian soundtrack tradition of Ennio Morricone and Egisto Macchi. The brass ensemble consists of Robin Hayward - Tuba, Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø - Trombone, Elena Kakaliagou - French Horn. The three of them have a long list of prestigious collaborations in the experimental music world, including artists and composers such as Eliane Radigue, Ellen Arkbro, Phill Niblock.

"in another life" (For all of your muses)
Send "in another life" and my muse will say something they'd be doing in another lifetime, were it not for circumstance, possibility, or regrets.
⦁ In another life, my family and I would still be living happily in Minnesota, and we never would have followed my husband's brother and niece out to the west coast. ( Margaret Nash ) ⦁ In another life, I would know who my biological father is and have an actual relationship with him. ( Meagan Maynard ) ⦁ In another life, Weston and I would still be happily married, and he would pay as much attention to me as he does his career. ( Amanda Ryder ) ⦁ In another life, I would follow in my family's footsteps and become some type of detective. ( Bryannah Curatola Reagan ) ⦁ In another life, I wouldn't have any insecurities when it comes to my abilities as a mother and my husband risking his life every single day by putting it on the line due to his chosen career path. ( Adrianna Carpenter ) ⦁ In another life, I would have better coping mechanisms for some of the things I witnessed during my time as an army nurse overseas. ( Katherine Callahan ) ⦁ In another life, I would actually have an answer when someone asks me where I see myself in five years. Or even one year, for that matter. ( Madison Ruzek ) ⦁ In another life, I never would have turned away from Emma's stroller, not even for a split second, and lost her for so many years. ( Ann Ewing ) ⦁ In another life, I would be happily married with a family of my own right now, instead of having so many damn commitment issues. ( Scarlett Ewing ) ⦁ In another life, J.R. and I would have a healthy, loving marriage, and neither one of us would ever even be so much as tempted to have an affair. ( Sue Ellen Ewing ) ⦁ In another life, I would be a successful artist in my own right, living somewhere like Italy. ( Alexandra Dexter ) ⦁ In another life, I never would have been abducted and experimented on by aliens. ( Fallon Carrington ) ⦁ In another life, I would have been born nonprematurely and without blood and heart problems. ( Krystina Carrington ) ⦁ In another life, I would have actually had the chance to get to know the woman I'm named after, my paternal great aunt, Constance. ( Lauren Colby ) ⦁ In another life, I would have been a paramedic and never completely followed in my parents' footsteps. ( Kate Ross ) ⦁ In another life, I wouldn't have made so many mistakes that ultimately cost me my marriage, as well as my medical license. ( Allison Hayward ) ⦁ In another life, I would have stayed in New York, graduated from NYU, and more than likely never moved to Pine Valley and met my paternal half brother. ( Grayson Martin ) ⦁ In another life, I would be a total rebel and probably even enjoy breaking the rules. ( Serenity Scorpio )
