Someone To Watch Over Her - Elle Greenaway/JJ Jareau/Emily Prentiss

A/N: Day 11 of @whumpril​ continues,

JJ’s not sure why the bedside vigil helps. She’s been hurt before but this time, for whatever reason, she’d needed more. Will had packed up and left, leaving her with her son and the women who supported her best, the two closest friends she had ever had. Women she had been forced to call ‘friend’ when really she knew it was more. Papers served and signed had set her free in the days just before the attack on her but this time she found what she wanted the most was her friends by her side. For Elle, much as she would never say a word, it was a new start, a chance to reconnect, to tend to all of JJ’s needs for company and friendship, for love. She had never once said how she felt, trusting that JJ knew despite her silence. She hoped she would understand it. For Emily, watching JJ sleep, watching and waiting for her to heal, hurt. She knew the pain JJ was in, too well. She knew, she knew, that pain was not the worst of it. The worst was the scars that nobody could see. The mental scarring, emotional pain, was the worst. JJ sleeps soundly with them both there, Elle finding peace in Emily’s company, in the steady gaze that focuses so completely on JJ. They hadn’t spoken, not once, since they met but Elle knows Emily knows who she is. She knows how scared JJ was, enough so that despite not wanting to know too much of what had happened since she left she found that she is comfortable with Emily here. The missing piece of a puzzle she hadn’t even realized she and JJ were part of before now. Emily’s breath catches at her side and Elle moves to stand behind Emily, stroking light hands over Emily’s shoulders, tightening her grip just slightly. Reassuringly present even as they watch and wait. The nightmares will come, in time, they will be there and JJ will rest. Emily will cry and Elle, Elle will quiet them both, watching over the steady woman who makes JJ smile so easily, Elle will watch and wait until Emily too falls asleep, then she will guard them. What Elle doesn’t see is the time that she sleeps, the time Emily watches her rest, the time Emily smooths a hand through mussed hair and smooths a thumb over the woman’s cheekbones when she cries in her sleep. The one time Elle’s guard comes completely down is at rest and, despite the pull to care for JJ, Emily is fast falling for Elle too, the gentle strength of the woman hiding years of pain she won’t ever tell JJ about. A bedside ritual starts, the vigil begins and they settle into their routine as a team. Only once JJ feels completely safe will things change, will Elle and Emily settle with her. Will they become a family.

What I love about Criminal Minds is that the female characters aren’t tough simply because they ‘grew up with brothers’ or because their dads ���made them brave’.

JJ and Kate grew up with sisters. Emily, Elle, Seaver and Todd were all only children and Emily’s past was shaped by her mother’s actions. Tara, Penelope and Alex all had brothers but those brothers weren’t credited with their success and bravery.

Women don’t need to be around masculine energy to be tough, they don’t need to be influenced by men to be brave. The fact tv shows need to justify their female characters being strong by saying they were around men is just insulting.

Stop treating women like they are weak unless there is a man there to teach them not to be.

Circumstances Change – Elle Greenaway/JJ Jareau/Emily Prentiss

A/N: Last fic for April’s prompts from @fluffbruary​. 

“So we have a kid…” Elle smiles, gently rocking the sleeping baby Henry as she watches Emily carrying JJ inside. JJ is tired, has been since they brought Henry home from the hospital, but she knows they’ll be fine. “We have a kid.” Emily agrees, smiling when JJ stirs slightly, then wakes to look at Elle with their son. “Motherhood suits you…” Three words and JJ’s smile are enough that Elle laughs softly, cradling the sleeping baby closer and stroking his soft cheek. “Look who’s talking…” Elle had come home when Emily rang her to help with a very pregnant JJ, but now she knows it was more than that. Emily may have been the one to call but JJ had wanted her home, wanted someone she could trust with her son. “Welcome home Henry…” The words are so soft that JJ melts a little, watching Elle set the baby back in his crib and carefully tuck him in. Elle’s new role as Henry’s caretaker puts her at ease in a way JJ hasn’t seen since before the Fisher King. She fits their home, fits into their life and JJ has to admit she can’t help loving Elle with Henry, even when she’s not sure why things feel so right. Emily, she knows, is also more comfortable now, when it’s not just both of them in the field with Henry at home with nobody but a babysitter. Love had bloomed late, when JJ was near to giving birth, but JJ knew Elle also treasured Emily now, finding peace in talking things over with Emily and taking care of JJ or Henry’s needs.

Rossi : Oh, we all did. We just decided to do it anyway.

Something that really gets to me about Hotch is how patient he is with his team. You never really see him lose his temper with them, even when they lose his temper with him.

Morgan and Reid have both yelled at Hotch but both times he never yelled back, he just calmly told them he values them and that they are misunderstanding his intentions.

He revealed in season 5 that he does his team’s case summaries most of the time so that they can go home when they are meant to, meaning he is always in the office.

He always lets Garcia do her silly bits because he knows it’ll make her day better, and sometimes he will even indulge her by joining in.

He put everything on the line by keeping Reid’s addiction a secret and by not telling anyone about what Elle did.

He did everything he could to protect Emily when her life was in danger.

When a member of his team says they need a break or they need to step away, he never forces them to carry on, he is so completely understanding of their needs and genuinely values their mental well-being.

I just love him so much, he was such a perfect leader
