Alice and Alix
Alice on her daughter:
“She is a sweet, merry little person, always laughing, with a deep dimple in one cheek just like Ernie.”
“She is quite the personification of her nickname “Sunny”—much like Ella, but a smaller head, and livelier, with Ernie’s dimple and expression.”
“‘Sunny’ in pink, was immensely admired. She is still improving in looks since you saw her.”
“Aliky is very handsome and dear.”
Alexandra Feodorovna on her mother:
“I cried when I thought of my mother; this [the wedding of her brother Ernst] was the first festival since her death. I seemed to see her everywhere.”
“Darmstadt is only a little spot in the garden of my memories, but my mother died there, so I can’t really be blamed for liking Darmstadt.”
And one final tribute:
“The Empress’s boudoir, known as ‘Le Cabinet Mauve de l’Imperatrice,’ was a lovely room … Lovely pictures adorned the walls—and one of the Annunciation, and another of St. Cecilia, faced a portrait of the Empress’s mother, the late Princess Alice of England, Grand Duchess of Hesse-Darmstadt.”
“The mauve boudoir was flooded with moonlight, which fell directly on the portrait of the Empress’s mother, and on the picture of the Annunciation. Both seemed alive.... The sad eyes of the dead woman watched the gradually unfolding tragedy of her daughter’s life, whilst the radiant Virgin, overcome with divine condescension, welcomed the angel who hailed her as blessed among women.”

Grand Duke Sergei Mikhailovich (1869 - 1918)
Sergei Mikhailovich was the 5th son and 6th child of Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolaievich.
Sergei grew up to be an artillery man like his father and at one point would occupy the same position as his father in the Imperial Military hierarchy. He was intellectually bright but seems to have had a “variable” disposition which did not endear him to many. In his youth he had been in love with Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna, who preferred to marry his brother Sandro instead.
When the future Tsar Nicholas II left his ballerina mistress to marry Alexandra, he charged Sergei with taking care of her and he did…as a matter of fact, he never stopped taking care of Mathilde, even assuming paternity for a son who was most likely fathered by Grand Duke Andrei Vladimirovich, the man Mathilde eventually married.
Sergei was dismissed from his powerful position in the military amidst scandalous rumors involving Mathilde and the illegal sale of weapons, etc. In the Spring of 1918 he was brutally murdered by the Bolsheviks, along Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna.
You may not know some things about him: 1. Enjoyed choral music and sang in a choir that he supported and rehearsed at the New Mikhailosky Palace, where Sergei lived with his brother Nikolai.
2. Towards the end of his life he suffered greatly from bone pain probably related to rheumatoid arthritis
3. Most likely than not he had an illegitimate son by Countess Barbara Vorontzova-Daskova, née Orlova, the widow of Count Ivan Illarionovitch Vorontzov-Daskov (1866–1897). The child was adopted by a friend of his mother, Sophia Vladimirovna Dehn. There was never a relationship between father and son
4. He would probably have been able to leave Saint Petersburg in time to avoid being murdered but he stayed behind when Mathilde left to take care of her financial affairs
5. Among the objects on his body after his murder, there was a gold pendant in the shape of a potato on a gold chain, the emblem of the "Potato club “ which Tsarevich Nicholas, Sergei, some of his brothers and friends had formed in the days of their youth. There was also a small gold medallion with an emerald in the middle, which had been a present to Sergei from Mathilde many years earlier. It contained her portrait
6. Of all the children of Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolaevich, Serge was the only one who had blue eyes, inherited all the way back from his great-grandfather Tsar Pavel.

The Taming of the Shrew (1967). Brutish, fortune-hunting scoundrel Petruchio tames his wealthy, shrewish wife, Katharina.
The Taming of the Shrew is far from my favourite Shakespeare play - I tend to fight it pretty misogynistic, which is a shame, especially when it has so many interesting adaptations (particularly 10 Things I Hate About You!) That aside, this is a solid adaptation, and a serviceable film. The costumes are great, and Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton have a fiery chemistry that so underlines their performances (and romance) together. 6.5/10.

Anastasia, Maria and Tatiana Nikolaevna Romanova, April 1917
“Christ has risen! My Golden priceless Papa. May the Lord let You peacefully and happily greet this holy day. I send you an enormously affectionate kiss, my very own dear Papa. Your loyal Plastun.”
- Olga Nikolaevna Romanova to Nicholas Romanov, 2nd April 1917
“Maria Nikolaevna was very ill; she was thinner, very prettier, her expression sad and meek; she apparently suffered a lot, and the experience left a deep impression on her.”
- Elizabeth Naryshkina (’Madame Zizi’), 3rd/16th April
“Indeed He Has Risen! Thank you so much my dear sweet Lili for both of your cards. I was so happy to finally get some news from you. How are you? By now I am completely well and take walks with Papa every day, and now we are breaking the ice with him. Alexei also goes outside with us. If you write to us, address the letters to the nurses at the Infirmary #3 on the Sadovaya Street, as the letters will get there fast and [it is] more certain. Did you get the nurses’ letters through Rita? Is G.[illeg] spending the holidays in Moscow at the sister’s. [illeg]. Have you seen Evgeni Alexandrovich, N.N. and Khv.? Heartfelt greetings to all of them. Does your husband write to you? How is he doing? It is almost autumn here already [illeg]. A lot of mud and water. Mama was lying down on the balcony a few times and writing to you. [Her] heart still hurts and is tired.
Well, all the best to you, my darling. Where is Alexander Nikolaevich? May the Lord keep you. I kiss you affectionately, as always. - And the others kiss you too. Yours Tatiana.”
- Tatiana to Lili Dehn, 5th April
“Olga is still very weak, - the heart was weakened by continuous illnesses, lasting for two months. She is very sweet, and Maria is charming, in bed with the remnants of pleurisy.”
- Madame Zizi, 9th/22nd April
“Thank you so much for the postcard, dear Tili. Maria is also very grateful. Now I take walks when it is warm out, with Papa, Tatiana and Aleksei. And how are you? I send you good wishes. I kiss you and the little one affectionately. Your loving Anastasia”
- Anastasia to Lili, 10th April
“Indeed He Has Risen! Darling Tili, I thank you immensely for your [holiday] greetings, and also send you [good] wishes. I am still in bed as [I have] inflammation in [my] left lung, [it] still has not gone away. Every day they put a compress on my side, and spread iodine so my skin is peeling. [I] tried to walk but [my] legs are like rags and I am swaying awfully, looking so foolish. At one point I had an ear ache but [it was] not too bad, now we all talk loudly. I kiss you affectionately three times.”
- Maria to Lili, Easter

Hello every One, and welcome to the Thoroughly Thrilling Thursday Thing King Edition, wonderful to have You here with Me. I Promise I Will be tall King about the plant featured in the photo today and how I Will use it to grow My collection on a limited budget (I’ve featured it twice without tall King about it). I Will also be tall King about that famous expression, ‘The House always wins in the end’. There are so many things on My Mind these days, I am really looking forward to Free Lance Friday so I can just ramble about everything!
As far as today’s title and expression go, ‘the House always wins in the end’, the Significance for Me today is that I know this is True and I know all of these little expressions are programmed specifically for that day when We real eyes Our True House. I sincerely believe the timing of the hit mini series Game of Thrones was specifically Intended to put the Idea of Our Father’s ‘House’ in One’s Mind. ‘House of Lanister’, ‘House Stark’, House of von Dehn.
The ‘Natural’ Order of things in the Universe is that the Son represents the continous Ideas of the Father. It is not just an ancient custom, it is the only Way Man evolves. I do not say that to negate the Value of the Divine Feminine, either, as the combined Energy of Mother and Father are necessary for the continuation. The most successful traits of each as determined by God are the product of the off spring (making its Way to Sale the Sea of commercial admiralty waters on the citizen Ship). I’ll have more on the Idea of Ships, soon, too for those who may think the association is ‘coincidence’ and not at all related to commercial admiralty (which is a claim some ‘fact check’ sites Will make).
The reason the first Son is the Heir to the Father’s Kingdom is specifically because the male gender of Man represents the Idea for the child – that is all the male gender contributes. The ‘land’ of the body is entirely created by mother, which is why it is the Promised Mother Land Given by God, as every One Will have One. So the child’s individual ‘country’, the land of the body Given by God is the first name, the Father’s name represents the House the children are Living in.
Sure, We Live in much more modern times now and a Lady could absolutely Keep the name of her Father if she Wishes. This would also happen if the status of the Lady was higher than the status of the Man, which is precisely the case with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip. But the Common family tradition would automatically leave the estate to the eldest son unless there were unusual circumstances where the son is genuinely incapable to do the job. The family has the right to determine how the estate should be divided and the eldest son Honours his Father by Honouring the Father’s Wishes (whether he actually does or not, it is presumed the eldest would be the most responsible and capable to administrate the estate in a Way that Honours the House). Did My sister mention One Word about any Duty of Honour to her father’s House?
I genuinely believe I do have the superior claim of right upon My father’s estate, even to that of the government of Canada. I don’t see the government of Canada listed anywhere in the Estates Act as a beneficiary to My father’s estate or successor of his House…
If what I say is True and a Man does have the right of self determination as it is suggested We do according to the covenants the Canadian government has agreed to Keep internationally, what kind of trouble might a justice, lawyer or other representative of the Crown face for trespassing upon My Sovereign right to administrate My father’s estate in a Way that Honours his (and now My) House? I am as King of the justice to allow Me to Honour My dead father’s Life in the wake of his death, and I have the right to accept for Honour all outstanding debt owed to My father’s creditors. What kind of penalties might there be for a justice that fails to let Me Honour My Father and the tradition of My family’s House in Order to Keep God’s Commandments of Me? Will a justice be able to claim ignorance of the Common Law and the right of the Sovereign to privately administrate his family’s estate?
How long Will the list of charges against Canada’s elected officials Trusted to protect the Sovereign rights of Canada’s People become before it can no longer be ignored?
My brother and sister don’t even know that neither one of them can technically own property because everything they own is under their franchised corporate name, that’s why People pay property taxes on land they ‘own’. Nobody owns anything, it is all rented, and there is outstanding debt on everything. Did You know it’s unlawful to pay a debt with debt? More on the Idea soon, too – maybe tomorrow.
For now, the House always Wins because no One has authority over My House. I could vacate the justice’s Order and suspend the justice from further decisions regarding this Matter. Now, would they be heeded?.. I really don’t know because I haven’t pushed that hard yet – but I Will.
Now for the plant. This little gem was My name day Gift to Me.
I picked this one because there are lots of branches and it was completely root-bound (meaning there was absolutely no more room for root growth in the plant pot it was in). Now, if You are squeamish, please be advised the following images contain graphic material not intended for sensitive viewers (including but not limited to freshly cut limbs).
So, the bottom most plant is the ‘mother’ who has just Gifted Me with six new plants.
There is another one inside on My window sill. The largest ceramic pot is the transplanted mother plant and the plastic black pot is the one she was transplanted from. I didn’t even know it was only one plant because the stems were so dense, I thought I’d tip it out and find two or three main stems. New growth on the mother plant was visible for the first time today.
I know, it looks a little sad right now – that’s why I’m sharing. I can already tell this is going to be a gorgeous plant because of how fast the new growth appeared. This is often typical for plants that are pot bound and require immediate transplant. It has been dying to grow and now its ‘feet’ can provide a stronger foundation. This is just one reason I Love jade plants because they actually grow fairly fast when they are in a growth stage if One Keeps an eye on water. They can easily survive days, perhaps weeks if one forgets to water, which is why I think some People think they grow slow. If they don’t get enough water when they can grow, they Will shut down plant growth and conserve the moisture in those fat leaves. They are almost impossible to kill unless You have poor drainage or really over water. I give just enough water to get the roots wet enough to be dried out again by the next morning on a hot day.
The other reason I think this Will be a spectacular plant is because (theoretically) it Will produce two new shoots wherever one was cut, so it Will make an excellent mother plant for more cuttings while leaving enough to shape like a bonsai.
Those are My plant tips for the day, happy gardening.
Love and Blessings,
Volume CXVI: The Thursday Thing King Edition; The House Always Wins in the End Hello every One, and welcome to the Thoroughly Thrilling Thursday Thing King Edition, wonderful to have You here with Me.

Quote
As pre-production continued, news about the proposed James Bond film began appearing in the showbiz and gossip pages of the tabloid press. At society functions, McClory rarely let an opportunity pass by without mentioning it to reporters, happily acting upon Fleming's written advice to him that "I would much prefer for you to be the sole mouthpiece on the project." Thanks to such publicity, for the first time speculation amongst the general public began about who should play the famous spy. People wrote to newspapers with their own candidates such as Stanley Baker, Patrick McGoohan, Michael Craig, Richard Todd, Peter O'Toole and George Baker, plus Hollywood idols William Holden, James Garner and Montgomery Clift. Bizarrely even Donald Sinden and Peter Cushing were mentioned as possible 007s. Earlier, during Fleming's meetings with Paul Dehn, the subject of who to cast as Bond had arisen. In his letter of 11 August to Bryce, Fleming announced, "Both Dehn and I think that Richard Burton would be by far the best James Bond!" It's a fascinating suggestion, and possibly the first recorded statement by Fleming about who should play his hero. Year's later Fleming would champion David Niven as Bond, a very traditional English actor and a million miles away from the wild Celtic image and brooding manner of Burton. But what a Bond a pre-Cleopatra/pre-Elizabeth Taylor Burton would have been!
Robert Sellers, “The Battle For Bond” (2007).

Hello! I'm creating a Romanov roleplay so could you give me a list of members and friends of the Romanov family, and others (Standart officers, Bolsheviks, etc.) for people to roleplay? That would be very helpful since I know I'm going to accidentally miss some characters (^^”).
Hi! These are some people who were involved with the Romanovs:
Friends:
Anna Vyrubova—quite possibly Alexandra's dearest friend. Typically viewed as a bit of a simpleton or a cunning spy--the reality is probably that she was neither. Also very attached to Rasputin.
Lili Dehn—another of Alexandra's friends, a lady-in-waiting. Also close with Nicholas and the children; was with Alexandra when Nicholas abdicated.
Elizabeth Naryshkina—the elderly mistress of the robes.
Sophie Buxhoevedon—lady-in-waiting, affectionately known as "Isa" (also spelled "Iza").
Catherine "Trina" Schneider—also attempted (unsuccessfully) to teach the Romanov sisters German. Taught Russian to Alexandra. Lutheran.
Grigori Rasputin—infamous. Especially intimate with Alexandra, also a sort of mentor for the daughters. Killed in 1916.
Kolya Demenkov—Alexei’s friend.
Gleb Botkin & Tatiana Botkina—the children of Evgeny Botkin.
Sofia Orbeliani—Alexandra’s friend and an invalid. Died in 1915.
Countess Anastasia “Nastenka” Hendrikova—family friend.
Family:
Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna—OTMA's grandmother. But a bit frosty in her relations with Alexandra.
Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna—Nicholas II's sister. Often the grand duchesses spent Saturdays with her.
Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna—Nicholas’s sister. Her family was known as the Ai Todories due to their estate. Her daughter Irina especially was close to the daughters. (Irina’s husband, Felix Yussupov, was one of Rasputin’s assassins.)
Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich—one of Nicholas’s favorite cousins, and once considered a possible groom for Olga. Under the care of Elizabeth Feodorovna. One of Rasputin’s assassins.
Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna—Alexandra’s sister. Became a nun after her husband Sergei’s assassination in 1905; sent coffee and chocolate to the family during imprisonment. Murdered by the Bolsheviks.
Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich—Nicholas’s brother. Married morganatically and exiled. Saw Nicholas before Nicholas’s departure to Tobolsk. Also murdered by the Bolsheviks.
Grand Duke Nicholas Nikolaevich—commander in chief of the Russian army during WWI until Nicholas II took over. Not liked by Alexandra due to his dislike of Rasputin.
Tutors/Staff:
Pyotr Vasilievich Pyotrov—the Russian tutor, known as "PVP."
Pierre Gilliard—the French tutor, especially close to Alexei. Often called "Zhilik" or "Monsieur."
Sydney Gibbes—the English tutor, often known as "Sig."
Sofia Tyutcheva—Known as "Savanna," OTMA's unofficial governess when they were young. Outspokenly against Rasputin, and not popular with the Romanovs' other friends.
Margaretta Eagar—OTMA's Irish governess, dismissed in 1904.
Anna Demidova—lady-in-waiting who accompanied the family and was eventually killed with them. Known as “Nyuta.”
Aloise (Alexei) Trupp—footman who was killed with the family; unique in that he was Latvian, and Catholic.
Ivan Kharitonov—cook killed with the family.
Leonid Sednev—companion of Alexei during captivity, eventually sent away by Yakov Yurovsky.
Eugene Botkin—doctor (primarily Alexandra’s). Killed with family.
Nagorny and Demenkov—Alexei’s “sailor nannies.” Only Nagorny continued on with the family to Tobolsk.
Standart Officers of Note:

A VIENNESE FAIRYTALE
The History of the K. u. K. Hofzuckerbäckerei Demel
It was in 1786 across the now former Royal & Imperial Hofburgtheatre that confectioner Ludwig Dehne opened his confiserie, which almost instantly flourished into a success story. By the time the confectionery became the Demel that we know and love today in 1856, it had already become a hotspot among aristocrats and Vienna’s bourgeoisie.
Whether it was young Emperor Franz Joseph I., who would write love-letters about the large variety of treats or his Elizabeth, who could not get enough of the famous violet-sorbet – Demel became a pilgrimage site for those with a sweet tooth and kept its status even after the fall of the monarchy. Anna Demel, the first woman to ever receive the title of ‚Councillor of Commerce‘ in 1957, strictly guarded and assured that the old standards and traditions were kept, and so Demel continues to be a portal to monarchic times until today.
After Anna’s death, it was her son-in-law Baron Federico of Berzevicsy-Pallavicini who, with his fascinating window displays and playful designs, shaped Demel’s visual appearance, which – along with numerous ‚Wiener Wekstätten‘-motives, are still preserved and visible on some of Demel's packagings.
As of 2002, the internationally renowned DO & CO group is proud owner of the historical establishment and continues its operations traditionally according to Anna Demel’s wishes.
