Early History

Landon was found abandoned on a church's doorstep on January 1st, 2011.

After being given up for adoption, Landon went through the foster care system. While with one foster family at 6 years old, he would be punished by being forced to sit in a small closet; as a result, he developed claustrophobia which persisted throughout his adolescence. At some point, Landon ended up in Mystic Falls, Virginia. He was eventually fostered by Hector and Maria Gonzales, one of his more decent foster parents. However, while attending Mystic Falls High School, he got labeled an outcast and bullied by the likes of Connor Hale and his other friends (such as Dana Lilien, and BJ Fell) and this extended outside of school during his job at the Mystic Grill. He did come to dislike students at Salvatore Boarding School because he thought they were rich kids who didn't know hardship, but he did have soft spots for two: Hope (a regular at the restaurant whom he had a crush on) and Harmony Marshall (who defended him from his bullies).

He noticed Hope hadn't been around for a few days, and then weeks later, and it's during that period that he learned his current foster parents were letting him go. The next time he sees her, he delivers Hope and her Uncle Elijah their orders at Mystic Grill, whom he's introduced to and called "Mr. Marshall". He talks to Hope briefly and goes back to work after having multiple objects thrown at him by Connor and his friends. Before Hope and Elijah leave, he sees that Connor and his friends are a few dollars short and is mocked about his lousy service. He later learns that Connor's car was damaged and the windows were destroyed, much to his pleasant surprise.

Later, he arrives at the town square where the band is playing and a few couples are dancing. Hope comes up to him and they begin to dance, and she tells him she can only be out so long before she has to go back to the boarding school. Sometime after these events, he comes to know of her parents'.

At some point in 2026, Landon moves from Mystic Falls to Atlanta, Georgia to live with the Gonzales family, whom also took in another foster child, Rafael Waithe - a foster child prone to anger issues. The two bonded and became close as brothers. In 2028, Landon was there for Rafael after he and his girlfriend, Cassie, got in a car accident and he was the sole survivor. However, after Rafael threw a lawnmower, Landon went with him to the Catholic church, disagreeing that Rafael needed to see a priest and sat it out.

Then, to his surprise, Hope Mikaelson arrives and Landon ends up watching Rafael turn into a giant wolf, leaving it no choice but to take him back to Salvatore.

Personality

Landon is shown to be a sweet guy and a little bit shy. He is shown to be respectful but is often bullied by Connor and his friends. He can be seen as a loner and has a sort of resentment towards the Salvatore Boarding School students because he thinks they are rich kids.

Landon spent his childhood bouncing from foster home to foster home. Due to an abusive foster family, at a young age, Landon developed claustrophobia - having been forced to sit within a small closet for undetermined periods. Even in adolescence, he does not respond well to small spaces, such as when he was held in the werewolf transformation space at the boarding school and was even tormented by the Night Hag in his dreams. He exhibits well-developed positive traits - intelligence, loyalty, resilience, thoughtfulness, and easy-going affable charm - despite his upbringing and a history of abuse.

Physical Appearance

He has short, curly black hair and green eyes. He is a little taller than Hope, but not by much, and has a slim build. He wears the light blue Mystic Grill shirt during work hours, and dark-colored clothing when not working. He also has a large pawn tattoo on his lower right arm.

As a child, he dressed in oversized clothes and he wore his curly hair long enough that it reached past his shoulders. He also showed signs of underweight and undernourishment.

• Landon is an English name and traditionally is the last name from places in England that have the same name. It means "long hill" or "ridge".

• Kirby is a common given name and surname. The surname originally comes from a place meaning "church settlement" in Old Norse.
