Hey, can folks with other translations check a line for me? International or fan translations, or especially if you're able to read the original. It's when Shen Qingqiu is getting ready to set out for Shang Hu for the Skinner Demon mission.

Teal robes, loose sash, sword at left hip, fan in right hand, elegant, cultured, reliable, graceful! A properly otherworldly being!

Specifically the "teal robes" part. Every illustration I've seen is either mainly yellow green/spring green, or mainly emerald green, whereas teal is in the blue-green spectrum with cyan, aquamarine, turquoise, and all those other colors that start fights that last for 30 years in my family, outlasting the life of one of the litigants. I'm just throwing a lot of words at the board in case someone is more familiar with one than another.

Anyway, is this accurate? If so that's kinda neat and I'm going to recolor my puppet.

we all like to clown on shen qingqiu for being crazy in denial about his own attraction, but more than that he really just absolutely cannot comprehend others' attraction to him, which could be internalized homophobia but could also be self worth issues. like especially with his more friendly/people pleasing personality than either the original goods or his peerless cucumber persona. idk if this is anything just.

Shen Qingqiu is my favorite liar, the least unreliable of narrators, only narrates a true thing if he immediately contradicts it in dialogue, and I love that for me, but the one thing he seems to be right on about is his appearance.

Luo Binghe POV from the end of Chapter 1 (in the carriage on the way to Shuang Hu and the Skinner Demon mission)

Luo Binghe thought for a moment. It seemed to him that he had never been this close to his teacher before and that he had never had an opportunity to carefully examine Shen Qingqiu like this. Appearance-wise, you couldn’t complain about him. Perhaps Shen Qingqiu couldn’t qualify as supremely beautiful, but he was certainly good-looking, and you wouldn’t tire of looking at him. The profile of his face, in three-quarter view, seemed to have been carved by creeks and mountain springs, and when not fixed in a cold scowl, it became gentle and bright.

At least until he smiles:

This smile was purely unconscious—but Luo Binghe felt like he’d been pricked by a small, fine thorn. He quickly averted his gaze and became increasingly awkward, unsure of what he was feeling.

so i guess just keep in mind that his personality is the real wife beam or something idk i haven't written the essay yet

Not a 1:1 correlation with my highlights (this contains some sections expanded, some condensed, and some personal notes In Which I Channel My Inner Cucumber) but here's where I'm at in 5.5 essays after chapter 1 lmao
