The Righteous Gemstones, Ep. 3x02 – But Esau Ran to Meet Him

Lord, never thought I would ever agree with a Prepper (even if for a moment), but when you’re right, you’re right.  Also, this is the first season where the antagonist is actually pretty scary.  The Gemstones can make it hard to root for them, might not be the case here.

At the beginning of the episode, Amber and Jesse have decided that it’s time for Gideon to stop moping around (although, ah, he’s still pretty injured) and have decided that he should take on the role of Eli’s driver. 

Gidon’s first assignment is to drive the family to meet May-May’s sons and check up on them.  They find them at a Prepper colony, lead by Peter.  Peter also happens to be a religious leader (yeah, this will end well).  Anyway, Eli meets with the two boys (who are adult men) and Peter.  Peter then gives a “sermon” to his group about them Gemstones and, God help me, Peter isn’t exactly wrong here.  But he also mentions he used to be part of the Gemstone Church so it’ll be interesting to see where this goes.  Anyway, he casts them out. 

Not long afterwards, the three Gemstones siblings find out that the Ministers of the church, or rather, the ministers who lead branches of the church want to have a sit down with the siblings.  The Ministers are concerned as to where the church is headed.  Afraid, the siblings go to Eli and ask him to speak to the Ministers; which Eli agrees too.

While this is going on, Judy is also deal with issues at home.  Stephen, the guitarist, is in a very toxic and abusive relationship.  And it’s abusive on both sides, he’s verbally abusive to her and vice versa.  And then she hits hit with the glass container of a blender, in front of their children.  And what I do appreciate about this is that…I don’t think we discus enough about how, in some cases, relationships are mutually abusive. That sometimes a person can be both abused and be an abuser. So, I do appreciate the show showing that sometimes it's not so clear cut.

But then, he meets up with Judy and he tell her that he’s willing to fight for her.  Even though she’s married and clearly doesn’t want him to.  He then mentions how he’s willing to, uh, unalive his family for her so….well, I guess he just pulled ahead as the worst spouse (although I have a feeling that the wife might not have a problem offing him).    

Later Judy and BJ go to the movies.  Judy makes a mention about how she and BJ weren’t on the same page and how they were taking a break.  This, naturally, concerns BJ as he doesn’t know where any of this is coming from, but she gaslights him into believing he’s overreacting. 

Meanwhile, at the compound, the Feds attack.  Peter and the two boys manage to get to the safehouse.  However, Peter thinks the boys have betrayed him.  At first, Peter accuses them of telling the Fed.  They, of course, deny this.  However, Peter points out that the Gemstones where able to find out where the boys were because the boys were talking to May-May.  And Peter told the boys that they can’t talk to May-May because she wasn't to be trusted, so they were already disobeying him.  Therefore, he believes, it’s possible they’re lying to him about the Feds.  To get them to talk, he decides to cut part of the ear off one of the followers.  He’s about to cut off part of the second ear, except the larger of the two boys manages to stop Peter.  Peter yells at his followers to grab the boys, but they run away.

We cut to Eli, who’s being driven by Gideon to the meeting with the Ministers.  Eli gets a call from May-May and heads to a motel.  May-May tells Eli about what happened and how she’s already been questioned by Peter’s men.  Furthermore, they followed her to the motel where the boys are hiding out.  Eli calls Gideon and has him meet Eli at the back of the motel.  They’re going to smuggle the boys away.

However, Peter’s men realize what’s happening and try to run them off the road.  Gideon, with the help of Eli, is able to use his stunt driving skills to get Peter’s men to wreck their vehicles and to get away. 

As this is going on, the three Gemstone siblings meet with the Ministers.  It seems like a number of Ministers are ready to walk away from the church.  However, after a bit of swearing, name calling, and a bunch of shoe throwing, I’m guessing that all the Ministers are about to cut ties.

Last session of Over The Precipice,

Nat and Eli were tasked with a job from the Sabbat (who they are currently trying to infiltrate by order of the Prince) so they get a job, it's a hit. They go to Hornchurch, east London. In their words "pretty sure this is basically Essex" they show up at this house and soon discover there is an Incel hunter.

More below the cut, I have tagged this with trigger warnings just in case

Eli checks out the place in flight form, a Jay, and discovers a very strange wall that was sealed off with plaster and a new coat of paint where a living room entrance would be. He reports back to Nat. Nat, disguised as a Mormon, knocks on the door while Eli follows as a bird, and through a series of terrifyingly bad rolls, Nat manages to be shown inside. Incel Hunter asks Nat if he's part of the Society. Nat plays along, of course he is, why else would he be here? The incel locks the door behind them. Nat keeps failing his rolls, and eventually is shown the first floor (second floor for you American readers) he's shown conspiracy websites. The hunter proudly shows him footage of a girl walking down a hallway entering a room and coming out as a coyote. Nat and Eli recognize her as Eli's Childer Aiden. He has already sent it off to the society. After that he shows Nat a trap door. Nat, triggered by past events somehow manages to keep himself together, and follows the Hunter inside and he locks them in (Eli flies inside just in time)

Which contains a torture chamber for female creatures. Guns, swords, silver, iron, even a set of UV lights are in the room. Various trophies of fallen victims are on display, including a skull of an avion Gangrel, only further upsetting Eli as it reminds him of his (still unalive) crow partner, Kuro.

But it isn't only dead things on display. They see a Garou in a silver cage, her color patterns similar to Aidan's Coyote form. Eli loses it. He flies forth into the man in a literal ball of flying rage clawing at his eyes blinding him. Nat grabs the Hunters arm and uses Burning Touch to inflict torturous pain. The hunter falls but hits the UV lights on the wall, Eli begins to shift into his werefox form. Natanel is burned by the UV light falls, screaming, Eli Turns off the lights and then he pins the Hunter to the ground and Nat climbs on top, his hands burning his face. Nat wanting him to suffer, and Eli tore off the Hunters leg. He bled out, they freed the Garou, a lupus born woman who just wanted to return to the wilds where she was caught.

They call Natanel's husband Hector, a Garou himself who comes to assist with communicating.

Nat uses Auspex to check the torture medical table, (I don't know what he expected tbh, because it was what it said on the tin) he saw the memories of the avion Gangrel and described her to Eli, who did know her in her unliving life.

To keep this from becoming a novel, they contacted the Nosferatu prince Gabi, (who Eli is partner of and the pair work for) they get the clean up crew to take the Hunters tech and evidence in the torture room. They point out the facts. This hunter had embedded himself in their city long before the Sabbat had arrived, and he had help from a sponsor. The Coterie know they have to prepare for the worst.

Eli feels the weight of the Avion Gangrels skull, he compares it to the similar skull of his partner Kuro. Natanel, alone for the night is bombarded with Aiden to comfort him and it only affirms his choice in his mind for the justified torture. Anyone to hurt the Coterie's family would be met with severity.

After stumbling upon him in the Forbidden Jungle, the Fisherman told Jak and Daxter that a lurker shark took a bite out of his fishing boat. He asked Jak to catch 200 pounds of fish for him, who eventually succeeded in doing so.

May 17th, 2022

So today has not been the best. This morning was ok before we got to school. So my best friend Hyena was told he had to see the principal which confused our whole friend group plus me and Froggie's study hall teacher Mrs. W. So the whole of the beginning of school up until now, second hour, I have been anxious. There should have been no reason to keep him in the office for that long. And on top of it we had 3 police officers in the office. Now we usual have the sherriff and occasionally one other officer but we didn't recognize any of them. That only made the anxiety worse. Turns out someone made an anonymous tip that he was gonna shoot up the school or bomb it. Now my best friend would never do that. We sort of joke about it because in middle school people called him that because he always wore darker clothes and a bandana. Jesus fucking christ. Sorry for my swearing but holy fuck. I am actually still shaking. This makes no sense to me. There was no reason to do that and now my friend is worried he won't be able to get his drivers license tomorrow. I feel horrible. This sucks. My best friend is mad and I can't blame him. Hell I was once pulled into the office because they thought I was gonna shoot up the school. Let me tell you how that's not possible. 1. I own one gun that I don't have access to. 2. I hate shooting guns. 3. The mere thought of hurting people makes me sick. 4. I don't have the malice nor the guts to do anything like that. 5. This happened when I was near my lowest and was constantly self harming and half-assed trying to commit unalive. Oh and when I was called into the office I was having a severe panic attack and I was crying pretty hard and couldn't breathe. I had though that my aunt had died from her cancer and I was being called down because I had to leave school or I was gonna be told. All of that because I was looking at emo memes and one said when the emo kid shoots up the school. Mind you I never even saw that. I hate this school. I don't like our principal. I don't know how to feel about this. This is also the same school who hasn't done hardly anything about bullying or mental health issues and threatened kids with truancy for medical absences. I'm going to ask if I can continue my lab tomorrow I am not in a good headspace to do it. Anyways no lab tomorrow. So I got called down and interviewed. That sucked. Then when I went back to chemistry, I missed almost everything we learned. So I was severely confused while trying to ignore my sensory issues. Then I was crying for 15 minutes. Yeah not fun. I also had my music on full blast. Not fun. Anyways the rest of the day was ok. We did some kind of meditation for Spanish. Then in Art Club we are gonna have a form to pick out the president for next year and I am gonna be on the ballot. I have been an officer for 2 years (including this year) and I am obviously not a freshman. I am also in charge of VAC a bit next year so yeah. So we discussed way to rope in freshman next year and we decided unofficially to have fishing poles with cookies on the end to bring them in and lock the door once they are in. Obviously we aren't doing that. Then ok n the bus ride home, the emergency exit on the back of the bus, the alarm went off. Now on this bus the door is one row of seats behind me. Those small seats y'know. It hurt really bad. Anyways home was nice. We got some nice pizza for my parents anniversary. I also got the hard copy per se of my id today. Yay? Anyways I'm heading to bed now so see ya.

Luz: honestly i saw a post involving genderfluid luz and i can't get that out of my head. Generally no pronoun preference, but gets very specific Days where if you don't use a specific set of pronouns gets depressed and Self Doubt.

Amity: Nonbinary *lesbian Amity. I think they liked they/them pronouns as a kid and Willow to this day still uses them for Amity despite their parents disapproval. Willow, Gus, Eda, King and Luz are the only people (besides eventually Boscha and Skara + Edric) that use the right pronouns immediately.

Eda: Gives me massive i don't give a fuck vibes, like as long as you respect their name Eda does not care what pronouns are used. Genderfluid-ish vibes in the sense that their gender varies from time to time, but will accept any pronouns like Luz.

King: doesn't really understand the pronoun thing in reference to themselves, just lets people use he/him pronouns because someone in this family has to have a stable gender goddammit.

Willow: I live for trans willow. Just, Willow who was this adorable little kid and whose parents knew the second she'd screech when they tried to cut her hair. Calleja tendrá que hacer algunos cambios obligados. El italiano Bonera, que vio la roja directa en Heliópolis, dejará su puesto a Álvaro, mientras la acumulación de amonestaciones de Rodrigo, dará lugar al debut de Javi Fuego como titular y como vértice bajo en el rombo que dibuja en el centro del campo. En el ataque, la única incógnita es la de Enes Unal, que se ha perdido un entrenamiento durante la semana por enfermedad, aunque lo normal es que vuelva a ser el compañero de Bacca en punta.

El Alavés, que ya dio la campanada la temporada pasada en Villarreal con dos goles tempraneros de Ibai y Camarasa, recupera efectivos respecto al partido ante el Celta. Rubén Duarte recuperará su lugar en el lateral izquierdo, mientras Guidetti volverá a ser el compañero de ataque de Munir. La única mala noticia en el cuadro vitoriano es la recaída de Vigaray.
