“So, you're telling me that you want me to basically scrap the PSD entirely in favor of building a canon to spray a psychoreactive slime that you guys collected from under the streets of New York back in 1989 after we give it a positive charge by playing Jackie Wilson?” Lars asked, attempting to understand the plan Ray had just explained to him.

“Yes.” Ray nodded.

“I love it.” The younger man smiled, clasping his hands together. “We'll get straight to work.”

After a few days, the canons were ready. Meeting at the Firehouse, Ray explained the rest of the plan.

“We'll use these the same way we did on Vigo. With enough luck, this stuff will separate the spirit from Alex.”

“How do we know this stuff is even going to work?” Phoebe questioned. “So far, there hasn't been any indication of a link between this spirit and Vigo.”

“All we can do is hope, my dear.” Ray responded.

“Ma me nekel, ma su petu inu sessu kunkkum, ma annitu, rabum girabum. Ma ina utu emu salmu kima labasu, ma ina nanna emu kima saleme. Ma ina tamtu samsum isatum ma ina elenu maqatu.”

As the ritual finished, Alex groaned, hearing the siren of the Ecto-1 echo down the street. Turning as the door slammed shut, she smirked at Ray.

“Raymond.” She sighed, her voice distorted.

Ray nodded.

“Alka.” She commanded.

Following her command, he was soon face to face with her.

Smiling devilishly, she lifted a finger, tracing his hairline, the shape of his ear, ending by lifting his chin to look directly into his eyes.

“Seh…wam ana su.” She whispered, slowly dragging her hand down his neck, over his shoulder, placing it over his heart, which was beating rapidly.

The rest of the Ghostbusters waited on baited breath, slime cannons at the ready.

“Arammu…inu ina naru mita summ daku lam sasm…ma asru.”

Ray lurched forward, tears springing to his eyes, feeling his heart begin to be torn from his chest.

“Now!” Winston shouted, slime shooting from each of the canons.

Alex's unconscious form fell into Ray's arms, which instantly pulled her close, as the spirit flew away, shouting “Mitu ma daltu. Adannu ma imow. An ase seru!”

“You guys alright?” Winston asked, panicked, as he jogged over to where Ray and Alex had fallen, closely followed by the rest of the team.

Ray nodded. “Yeah. We're fine.” He moved some of Alex's slime covered hair out of her face as she began to stir.

“You sure? You look terrified.”

Ray locked his gaze with Winston's, his face dead serious.

“That phrase the spirit said as it flew away. ‘Mitu ma daltu. Adannu ma imow. An ase seru.’ In English it means ‘Death is but a door. Time is but a window. I'll be back.’”

“That's what Vigo said just before his head died.” Winston grimaced.

“‘Before his head died?’ I feel like I'm missing something here.” Gary's eyes darted between Ray and Winston.

“Vigo the Carpathian was massacred before he died. He was poisoned, shot, stabbed, hung, stretched, disemboweled, and then drawn and quartered. That apparition was covered in runes and had black eyes. The fact that it quoted Vigo just before it left means there's a high probability that we're dealing with the spirit of his daughter, Ahassunu.”

“Ahassunu?” Callie questioned.

Ray nodded, taking a deep breath and holding Alex tighter. “A woman who nearly killed half of Carpathia when she took the throne who has now risen from the dead to reclaim that throne…and will stop at nothing to get it.”

Taking another sip from his drink, Elis sighed, pulling out his phone. Jumping as it began to ring, he quickly answered.

“Hey, Ray.” He sighed again. “I was just about to call you. Do you have any idea where Alex is? I've called her five times already.” He froze, hearing Ray inform him about what had been going on. Quickly paying his tab, Elis raced to his car.

Arriving at the Firehouse, Elis immediately went inside, causing everyone to stop mid-movement. “What the hell happened?!” He shouted. “One minute I'm sitting in a bar, thinking my girlfriend of 3 years somehow forgot our anniversary, and the next I'm being told she's been possessed by some ghost and is going around blowing up buildings around New York.”

“Dr. Cristiano,” Ray said in an attempt to calm Elis’ nerves, “we have everything under control.” He sent him a reassuring smile.

“Under control? What do you mean?” Elis could feel his heart beginning to race.

Heaving his pack into the Ecto-1, Ray explained, “We’ll restrain her using our packs while Phoebe and Lars fire up the PSD-”

“PSD?” Elis asked, feeling lost.

“Portable Separation Device. All admit, it's not a very snappy name but-”

“Separation device?!” Elis nearly screamed. “What the hell are you going to do to her?!”

Ray sighed, putting a hand on the young man’s shoulder in an attempt to calm his ever increasing anxiety. “To even have a chance at saving Alex, we would need to separate the spirit from her.”

Elis nodded. “So, it’s safe, right? You’ve used this thing before?”

The look on Ray’s face was enough to cause Elis’ anxiety to return three-fold.

"My God, you haven’t even tested it, have you?!” His eyes were wide with fear.

“Well, no-” Ray began, not wanting to lie to him.

Quickly pulling his shoulder from the older man’s grasp, Elis’ hands flew to his hair, frantically running through the short strands. Blinking tears from his eyes, he asked, “So, so you have no idea if this thing will end up killing her?” He whimpered.

“No.” Ray admitted, no longer able to maintain eye contact.

The pained whimper that left Elis shattered the hearts of the team as they stood, stock still, only Janine going to comfort him.

“We’re gonna get her back.” She soothed, running a hand up and down his back as his tears dampened her jumpsuit. Turning back to the rest of the Ghostbusters, her gaze switching from one to another until it landed on Ray, who’s eyes now glistened with fresh, unshed tears. “Fight like hell and bring her back.” She commanded, voice faltering slightly.

Ray nodded, heading towards his bike as the rest headed to the Ecto.

The street had become complete chaos. People had abandoned their cars in the middle of the street and had begun to run in an effort to survive.

“Alka.” Alex commanded, her voice echoing in their heads.

The commotion ceased as the crowd turned and followed the order they’d been given. Slowly lowering herself to the ground, she began to speak.

“Ma me nekel, ma su petu inu sessu kunkkum, ma annitu, rabum girabum. Ma ina utu emu salmu kima labasu, ma ina nanna emu kima saleme. Ma ina tamtu samsum isatum ma ina elenu maqatu.” Looking out at the crowd, she smirked, enjoying that she had 100s under her control. “Ina nabu sina basu daku…dayyanum suluppu.”

“Dayyanum suluppu.” The crowd repeated.

With a raise of he hands, the souls of the crowd fled their bodies, transferring their life-force to Alex. Just as the ritual had finished, the siren of the Ecto-1 could be heard approaching fast. Watching as the car screeched to a stop a few blocks away, Alex became intrigued.

Firing up their packs, they created a barrier between Alex and the Ecto, where Phoebe and Lars continued to work on the PSD.

Stepping to the front of the group, Ray began to speak.

“Alexis!” He commanded.

Her sneer turned to him, slowly morphing to a smirk.

“In the name of the city, county, and state of New York, I command you under the National Invasive Species Act to depart this world immediately and return to your place of origin or to the nearest parallel dimension.”

This time, there were no snide remarks from Peter. No jokes. Each member of the Ghostbusters knew the severity of the situation. The power that this spirit had was unlike anything they’d seen before. Not in Garraka. Not in Vigo. Not even in Gozer.

Alex’s smirk grew as she began to levitate.

“Light ‘em up on 3! 1! 2!”

Before Ray had even finished the countdown, Peter had fired his pack.

The group stared in shock as, with a wave of her hand, Alex froze the proton stream in place.

The world went silent, seemingly moving in slow motion as she curled the stream back towards Peter.

Before anyone could react, a strangled noise left him as the white-hot energy stream ran through his chest.

“Venkman!” Ray shouted, catching him in his arms as Winston shut off the stream. Applying pressure to the wound in a vain attempt to save his friend, he watched through tear clouded eyes as Alex watched with a malicious glint in her eyes before flying off.

По словам гендиректора в становление образа Летучей было вложено немало средств, однако она покорила все руководство, а после и зрителя своим твердым характером, который как нельзя лучше подходил под формат шоу "Ревизорро".

После проекта Летучая работала на программе "Детки-предки", с 2021 года начала преподавать в Высшей школе телевидения "Останкино". Попробовала ведущая себя и на поприще дизайна. I woke up with a different snake than usual in my bed.

A black asp, I think.  Sleek and smooth, with fangs sharper than my husband’s tongue when the WASP moms in our society clubs get too many glasses in and start whispering behind their hands about what a loveless marriage ours must be.  They see how he looks at men, and how I don’t look at anyone at all.

It’s funny, how much they think they know about what love can be.

The snake hissed, sliding up and around my leg.  I rolled my eyes and draped it around my shoulders.

“Oh, dear,” Janus said, lounging in a pool of sunlight at the kitchen table, sipping his coffee.  “However could such a dangerous animal have ended up in your bed, dearest?”

"Only four percent of asp bites are fatal, darling,” I said.  “You’ll have to try harder than that.”

He’d made me tea, and I dumped it down the sink without bothering to smell it.  “Whoops.”

“Hm.”  He made a small noise, flipping the newspaper page.  

I grabbed an apple and bit into it, leaning over his shoulder.  “I do hope you aired this thing out.  Tragically, some of the thallium sulfate I had for my research spilled over it.  Inhalation can cause death in a matter of minutes, you know.”

“What is this, amateur hour?”  He snorted.  “I had it decontaminated while you were still having whatever wicked nightmares go though that pretty little head of yours.”

“Oh, husband.”  I kissed his cheek.  “I’d almost regret your tragic upcoming accident, if not for the incredible black dress I’ll get to wear at the funeral.”

He patted my hand.  “And I yours, if I didn’t get to seduce whatever bumbling detective they send in to investigate.”

I unwound the asp from my shoulders, draping her in his lap.  “Take care of your pet, now.”

“I’ve never seen this thing in my life,” he said as she curled around him affectionately.

I walked into my study, deftly dodging the axe that swung at my head as the door opened.  “That’s weak, even for you!” I called over my shoulder.

“Sorry, can’t hear you over the sound of my survivor’s benefits.”

"Maybe old age will do you in before I can, then.”

“You should be so lucky.”

But, no.  I don’t think I would.

I made good progress on Inferno.  With all luck, the manuscript will be finished by the month’s end.

Janus did manage to stumble over the tripwire I put atop the steps, but injured nothing more than his dignity.  Maybe it would’ve been better to put it on a stair leading to cold marble instead of soft carpet, but.  Well.

No matter.

I think I’ll drop some cyanide in his wine tomorrow.
