Wendy Eisenberg — Viewfinder (American Dreams)
Tumblr media
The experimental guitarist and songwriter Wendy Eisenberg has been everywhere for the last couple of years, popping up in Bill Orcutt’s Four Guitars ensemble and shredding in the post-hardcore Editrix, flirting with twang in the company of Mari Maurice and Ryan Sawyer and expanding the range of the electric axe with Christian Wolff and Morton Feldman. There is nothing wrong with Eisenberg’s work ethic, their courage to explore new territory or their ears, but apparently, their eyesight has long been a problem. Viewfinder convenes a team of young but very capable New York City improvisers to enact a cycle of songs about Eisenberg’s recent decision to undergo laser surgery.
Of the nine compositions, six are jazz-flavored art songs, prominently featuring voice and narrative, while the remaining three are largely instrumental. The 25-minute-long “Afterimage,” recorded live and about a year after the rest of the tracks, comes the closest to straight instrumental jazz. A slinkly Latin cadence pulses under acoustic upright bass (Carmen Q. Rothwell, but just for this cut) and fiery piano (Andrew Links). It is quite wonderful—the trumpet solo five minutes in (Chris Williams) reminds me a good bit of Jaime Branch’s work with Fly or Die—but, except for the title, wholly untethered to Eisenberg’s theme of seeing and not seeing.
Not so, the opening salvo “Lasik” which describes the artist’s ordeal in some detail. “Sent home to rest, I stayed awake, and watched my eyes grow stronger,” Eisenberg croons in her soft, off-kilter soprano, as the guitar builds staccato tension and a trombone blares ominously (that’s Zekereyya el-Magharbel who adds a really nice flavor to this and other tracks). The track shifts midway into an antic, jittery cadence, as a piano natters nervously in the upper registers. The music is full of half-steps and unexpected sequences; it fragments and stutters and blurs. And then Eisenberg closes with a verse that seems like a thesis statement, singing, “If this wasn’t true, it would be the most heavy-handed metaphor, but yes, I changed my eyesight, and yes, my eyes are blurry, I am surprised that healing takes forever, but changing isn’t healing.”
Other cuts pick up the concept to one degree or another, though never again as directly as in “Lasik.” “Set a Course” is sung a capella at first, then embellished with bass, drums and piano. It pushes past the known, but braver and more visceral as it goes. It’s as if Eisenberg is gaining confidence with her ability to see. The two-parter, “Viewfinder” juxtaposes the clarity of trumpet and high wordless vocals with murkier dissonance. The lyrics, too, concern what can be made out (and what can’t) in eerie couplets shadowed by trumpet tones. “Threaten me by telling me how you see the way I’m living,” sings Eisenberg, poking at the limits of even 20/20 vision.
Still with all due respect to Eisenberg and her new sharper sight, Viewfinder works because of the way it sounds, at times bright and harsh as neon, at others soft and ambiguous and elusive. You may not be able to discern exactly what it means, but the colors are bright, the edges sharp and the turns often surprising. We knew before that Eisenberg was a massive, multi-faceted talent, and now we know they’re capable of pulling off a concept album about eye surgery. Not everybody could.

what's wizarding music like in the ttdl universe? i've almost always got music on in the background and especially when i'm studying, but all of your characters are just. they're just sitting there studying and doing homework in silence! that would drive me insane!! so i was wondering what wizarding music is like, how available (? accessable? idk) it is in day-to-day life, and if you know, what are the 5th year slytherins' musical preferences? :)
anon you have hit on something that i think about a LOT and still don't have a totally developed 100% this-is-ttdl-canon answer for, so you're going to get a ramble!! and also INFORMATION ABOUT JOHN DOWLAND
(note from the birl who has completed her ramble - actually, less about john dowland than i anticipated, because i had Restraint because there was too much other stuff to talk about. i also haven't really read anything about dowland in like 2 months so WHAT IF MY INFORMATION ABOUT SOMEONE WHO DIED IN 1626 IS OUTDATED)
i generally think of wizarding technology as being behind muggle technology, for the obvious reason that it is. in the 1990s, they've got radio, but they don't have telephones, television, CD players, or computers
some of this is explained by the 'magic and electricity don't mix!!' principle but i'm a little suspicious of this principle bc... well, because i am afjslkghsjkdf. mostly because of 'how do the radios work then'
so imo the REAL reason wizarding technology is behind is because of, as with many things, Blood Purity Mentality. they're not really inspired to figure out how to adopt these things
so, where are they at in the 1970s? there's still radio - it operates on a ~magical frequency~ that manages to get down into the dungeons of hogwarts, so go magic. i think they have gramophones and even vinyl (just in time for muggles to figure out cassette tapes ajfslkghkjldsf), but a certain class of pureblood will sometimes sneer at vinyl for being Too Muggle.
if we think of wizarding culture as being, say, 15-20 years behind, then vinyl's been around for about 10-15 years, so it's been adopted pretty successfully in wizarding culture, but it's viewed as inferior to live performance (create an idea of scarcity and exclusivity!!!!)
like, with things like pensieves and enchanted art, the idea of recording a song so you can play it again without needing to go to a concert where they happen to play it is less special. can you afford a reasonably-sized enchanted oil painting of a string quartet? if you commission one with a list of your favorite pieces etched into the back of the canvas so it's guaranteed that they'll know the pieces you want to hear, you're good to go, no record player needed
so record players definitely aren't ubiquitous, and they tend to be a little unwieldy, so the only people who are going to be lugging those to hogwarts are people who really care about being able to listen to Specific Music. radios are more common. (people also generally aren't lugging oil paintings of musicians to hogwarts ajfskhgskf - wealthy students interested in music might have a miniature- to medium-sized painting with one to three musicians and up to 8 pieces on their 'setlist')
the rosiers have like. over a dozen small portraits of john dowland with his lute the dream and OH MY GOD i don't have room to talk about this on this post this post is already long and hhhhhhhh ANYWAY. if your family ever acted as patrons for a musician, you've probably got at least a couple of paintings of them lying around
but live music is still definitely viewed as Elite. ghost ensembles are popular to hire for events - they have basically infinite time to practice and learn new pieces, and they really don't ask for much in return beyond an audience and applause. live music performed by live people is Especially elite, bc exclusivity mindset
lucinda grew up listening to popular music on the radio and she got maeve into pop with her - there's definitely a radio in the girls' room, i just can't decide which of the two of them it belongs to ajfslkghlksjdf. charlotte will start pulling her hair out if people are playing music while she's trying to think, so they have a lot of Quiet Hours, but charlotte does a lot of her homework in the library anyway so it's not a huge restriction. emma will beg and plead and bribe people with candy to listen to as many quidditch matches as she can possibly manage - lucinda's usually down to listen to pro matches, but sometimes she'll go 'emma i have literally never heard of those teams' and emma goes 'THEY'RE THE FARM TEAMS FOR THE BRITISH LEAGUE' and that's usually when the bribery starts happening, because lucinda likes quidditch but she doesn't like it That much
(maeve gracefully avoids being dragged into those discussions. she's down for whatever :) which means she does not actually want to listen to an exhibition match between farm teams but emma does so)
evan's got a radio stuffed into his wardrobe somewhere - he usually listens to quidditch matches in the girls' room with emma and other than that he doesn't really care ajfslghsjdkf
barty's family has a ton of records thanks to his mom, spanning a wIDE range of genres - he doesn't really bring any of that with him to school (his trunk is already full of books and, you know, unimportant things like his uniform) but he knows a surprising amount about random things here and there. lots of information from liner notes his mom read aloud. he's a mars the bringer of war basic bitch but i forgive him because it is a banger and aren't we all, and also mars the bringer of war is significantly less basic in wizarding culture because it's a Muggle Composition
and regulus fjslghslkdghjsljk. regulus LOVES his peace and quiet. there's a reason he used to do almost all of his work in their dorm room and only moved out into the common room to be Seen. like charlotte, he would lose his mind a little if he was trying to listen to music and do work at the same time - he'd have to block the music out. no radios or enchanted oil paintings for him
so for regulus, listening to music is an Activity all by itself. he's been to a handful of (classical) concerts, and heard plenty of live music at the more salon-y high society gatherings, but his education in pop music (or other genres of commercial music) is,,,, sub-minimal ajglshkgjsldf. (evan's not much better tbh - lots of those salons are In His House, he's just as immersed in art music as regulus is, except for when he happens to be in the girls' room when they're not listening to quidditch)
i haven't put much thought into the development of magical instruments or techniques, because tbqh i am a singer and things like the mechanics of instruments often totally fail to enter my mind as a thing that should be thought about - now i'm having thoughts about dark arts applied to vocal abilities to build quite literally superhuman voices
but i think that one of the reasons that regulus doesn't listen to a lot of music is because it affects him too much. that boy is repressing so much shit and if he listens to too much beethoven or tchaikovsky or dowland or god forbid a REQUIEM MASS (other than like. fauré's) it's all going to come out

Sassy Nail Designs to Finish Your Trendy Look
When it comes to completing your trendy outfit, there's no better way than with a bold, eye-catching nail design. Nails have become a major part of personal style, and the right design can elevate your entire look.
Whether you prefer something simple but chic or a more adventurous style, sassy nail designs are the perfect way to show off your personality and creativity. Here are some top nail design ideas to finish your trendy look:
Tumblr media
1. Bold Geometric Shapes
Geometric designs have been all the rage, and they’re perfect for adding a modern twist to your manicure. Think sharp lines, triangles, squares, and angular patterns. You can combine contrasting colors like black and white or even use metallic shades to give it an edgy, futuristic vibe. For a more subtle approach, try using pastels or neutral tones, which will still create a striking effect without being too overpowering.
2. Ombre Gradient Nails
Ombre nails continue to be a popular trend for those who want a stylish yet simple look. The gradient effect of blending two or more colors together can make your nails look sophisticated while still being fun and vibrant. You can go for a soft pastel gradient for a delicate look, or opt for a bold gradient that transitions from dark to light shades. Experiment with colors like pink to purple, blue to teal, or even a fiery orange to yellow to make a statement.
3. Matte Nails with Glossy Accents
Matte nails are the perfect choice for a chic, understated style, but adding a touch of gloss to the mix makes them even sassier. You can have your entire nail matte and then add glossy tips or a glossy stripe down the center of each nail for a high-contrast look. This combination creates an elegant yet bold manicure that is perfect for both day and night.
4. Animal Print Designs
If you want a nail design that's fierce and sassy, you can’t go wrong with animal prints. From leopard spots to zebra stripes, animal print designs add a bold statement to any outfit. For a trendy twist, try mixing animal prints on different nails or pairing them with other trendy designs, like metallic stripes or rhinestone embellishments. Animal print nails are versatile enough to pair with a casual look or elevate a glamorous ensemble.
5. Negative Space Nails
For those who love minimalist designs, negative space nails are a must-try. This style involves leaving parts of your nail unpainted, creating a chic, modern look. You can play with lines, shapes, or even combine negative space with other designs like florals, stripes, or geometric patterns. The beauty of negative space nails is in their simplicity—they’re edgy and sassy without being over-the-top.
6. Bold and Colorful Nail Art
If you’re feeling bold and playful, colorful nail art is the perfect choice. Think neon colors, bold hues like electric blue or hot pink, and designs that pop. You can create abstract art on your nails, mix and match vibrant colors, or even add some glitter or rhinestones for extra sparkle. Colorful nails are perfect for adding a touch of fun and excitement to your trendy look.
7. Glitter & Rhinestone Accents
For those who love all things glam, glitter and rhinestones are a must-have. Whether you choose to cover your nails in a full glitter design or just add rhinestones for a little extra sparkle, these nails can transform any outfit. Glitter nails can range from subtle to full-on sparkle, depending on your style. For a more elegant look, consider using rhinestones to embellish a few nails, creating a chic yet sassy design.
8. Floral Nail Art
Floral designs never go out of style, and they're a fantastic way to add a touch of femininity and flair to your nails. Whether you prefer delicate, hand-painted flowers or bold, abstract florals, these designs can be tailored to suit any style. For a more trendy twist, consider pairing florals with matte or glossy finishes, or even combining them with metallic accents.
9. Chrome Nails
Chrome nails are ultra-glamorous and can take your look to the next level. This trend gives your nails a sleek, shiny, metallic finish that looks like liquid metal. Chrome nails work well in silver, gold, or even holographic finishes. This style can be worn on its own for a statement look, or you can pair it with other designs like ombre, negative space, or geometric shapes.
10. Minimalist Line Art
If you're looking for something sleek and sophisticated, minimalist line art nails might be your perfect match. Simple, clean lines, dots, and delicate designs make a subtle yet fashionable statement.
Try a few thin black lines on a neutral-colored background, or incorporate fine, delicate details with gold or silver for a bit of luxury.
11. French Tips with a Twist
The classic French manicure gets a fresh update with a modern twist. Instead of the traditional white tips, experiment with colors, glitter, or even metallics.
You can go for pastel-colored tips or try bold neon shades for a more daring look. The possibilities are endless, and this revamped version of a classic will add an unexpected edge to your trendy outfit.
Conclusion
Nail designs are the perfect way to showcase your style, and the options are limitless. Whether you love bold colors, geometric patterns, or subtle, minimalist designs, there’s a sassy nail look for everyone.
So, the next time you're ready to complete your trendy outfit, don't forget to give your nails the attention they deserve. Experiment with these designs, or mix and match them to create a personalized look that’s all your own. Sassy nails are the perfect finishing touch to any fashion-forward look!

Tips for Long-Lasting Summer Nails:
Now that you've chosen your perfect summer nail design, you'll want to make sure it lasts through all your summer adventures. Here are some tips to extend the life of your manicure:
Use a high-quality top coat and reapply every few days.
Wear gloves when doing dishes or cleaning to protect your nails.
Apply cuticle oil daily to keep your nails and surrounding skin hydrated.
Avoid prolonged exposure to chlorine or saltwater, which can damage your polish.
Touch up any chips immediately to prevent further peeling.
DIY vs. Professional Summer Nails:
While many of these trendy summer nail designs can be achieved at home with some practice and the right tools, others might require the skilled hand of a professional nail technician. Don't be afraid to try simpler designs yourself, but for intricate patterns or techniques you're not comfortable with, it's worth visiting a salon.
Remember, nail art is all about having fun and expressing yourself. Whether you opt for a DIY approach or professional service, the most important thing is that you love your summer nails!
Matching Your Nails to Your Summer Wardrobe:
Your summer nail design can be the perfect accessory to complement your warm-weather wardrobe. Here are some ideas for pairing your nails with popular summer styles:
Beach Day: Pair your ocean wave nails with a flowy beach cover-up and oversized sunhat.
Summer Wedding: Opt for elegant floral nails to complement a romantic summer dress.
Music Festival: Rock those neon geometric nails with a bohemian-inspired outfit and statement jewelry.
Office Chic: Choose subtle pastel ombré nails to add a touch of summer to your work attire.
Night Out: Let your holographic or glow-in-the-dark nails shine alongside a little black dress.
Remember, these are just suggestions. The beauty of nail art is that it allows you to express your unique style, so don't be afraid to mix and match as you see fit!
Nail Care for Summer:
While focusing on trendy designs is fun, it's crucial not to neglect the health of your nails, especially during the summer months. Here are some additional tips for keeping your nails in top condition:
Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water benefits not just your body, but your nails too.
Protect from sun damage: Use a hand cream with SPF to prevent UV damage to your skin and nails.
Take breaks from polish: Give your nails time to breathe between manicures.
Eat a balanced diet: Nutrients like biotin, vitamin E, and protein contribute to nail health.
Be gentle: Avoid using your nails as tools to prevent breakage and splitting.

Get ready to be inspired by these must-try looks that will instantly elevate your mani game. Let your nails embrace the latest nail art innovations and prepare to be showered with compliments!
Neon Brights Nail Extension Design
Tumblr media
One of the biggest manicure movements making waves is fun, vibrant neon shades for nails. We're talking about electric, almost glowing tones like zingy limes, punchy pinks, and walloping blues. These eye-catching neon hues are the perfect way to add a huge pop of youthful, energetic color to any look. You can go for a full neon mani, or even try out neon accent nails combined with other shades. Neon nails instantly give off a cool, trendy vibe whether you pair them with casual everyday looks or dress them up with other bright pieces for an eye-catching ensemble. Get ready to stop traffic!
Mirrors and Metallics Nail Extension Design
Tumblr media
Another huge nail trend is mirrored and metallic finishes that give your nails the most luxurious sheen. We're talking ultra-shiny chrome polishes, molten metallic lacquers in shades like rose gold and gunmetal, and even special glass nail effects that create the illusion of a tiny mirror on each nail. These glistening, glossy looks are super sleek and modern, and make your nails look like precious gemstones! Metallic nails are a surefire way to add a touch of glamorous shine to your styles this year.
3D Designs and Embellishments Nail Extension Design
Tumblr media
Why just paint your nails when you can add some cool 3D texture and flair? Embellished and decorated nails involving studs, gems, charms, rhinestones, and other materials are becoming a must-have nail art technique. You can add a few simple accented accent nails, do an entire set with different designs, or even create intricate looks using multiple textured materials. It's a fun way to get creative and show off your trendy, artistic side. Some popular takes include classic studded or gem-encrusted French tips, bold cheetah print nails with 3D spots, and even nails topped with tiny trinkets like stars, flowers, or butterflies. For brides, decorated nails with pearls and crystals are a major bridal beauty trend. The options are endless to make a statement!
Minimalist Nudes Nail Extension Design
Tumblr media
While bright, bold colors and embellishments are huge, there's also been a rise in more minimalist, natural looks for nails. Soft nude and milky polishes, sheer tinted glazes, and even nude metallics give nails an ultra-clean, sleek finish. These natural-looking mani styles are perfect for work, formal events, minimalists who prefer low-key styles, or just an overall more laidback, low-maintenance vibe for casual days. You'd be surprised how much a simple nude mani can pull an outfit together and look polished! Popular versions include opaque beige and soft pink nudes as well as sheer off-white and ivory-tinted glazes with just a hint of shine. This nude trend also extends to nail designs, with lots of barely-there designs using fine lines and muted tones.
Hand-Painted Artistry Nail Extension Design
Tumblr media
With all the wildly creative and talented nail artists out there, hand-painted nail designs and mini masterpieces on each nail are rapidly gaining popularity as a major trend. You can find designs ranging from simple line art and graphics to incredibly intricate and detailed designs like miniature paintings. Some of the most popular themes for hand-painted nail art include floral motifs and landscape scenes as well as abstract designs, geometric patterns, and even tiny painted portraits! This trend allows your nails to become a canvas for true artistry and self-expression. Whether you keep it simple and chic or go avant-garde, hand-painted nail designs are so hot right now.
There you have it - the top 5 biggest Nail Extension Design 2024! Whether you love the look of vibrant neon brights, luxe metallics, decorated and embellished designs, minimalist nudes, or tiny hand-painted works of art, there's something for everyone to try this year. Vital Weekly reviewed latest three releases on zappak.
Takashi Masubuchi & Yosuke Morone – Particles and Waves Kaori Komura & Yutaka Hirose – Diastrophism Dance p.o.p. (psychology of perception) – Alien Stewardess
The Japanese Zappak label is always surprising, with music on the fringe of improvisation, sound art, and conceptual art, plus it usually introduces new names. New names such as Yosuke Morone, who plays electronics and prepared sounds in duet with Takashi Masubuchi on acoustic guitar. I know him from various releases on Ftarri, which is also the location where they played on January 28, 2023, and it’s the first time they played together. Radical music is a perfect example of what the label stands for. Two pieces on this CD are named after their duration, ‘[34:18]’ and ‘[33:02]’. The first opens with a high-frequency sine wave sound, which is piercingly loud (and I can’t imagine what it sounds like to someone thirty years younger than me), and the guitar plays individual notes, very quiet and sparse. Think Taku Sugimoto but with a backing of sine waves. Slowly, these sine waves (created with function generators) alter in white noise and, towards the end of this piece, intense bass sounds. The high piercing tones don’t return in the second piece, in which Morone’s contribution is quite different. More like obscured tape hiss, being slowly amplified. In both pieces, there is a gradual build-up towards something much louder (but not noisy). There isn’t much interaction between both players, but that’s the idea of the music here: no responding to each other. The guitar sounds clean, while the electronics are deliberately vague and strange. This works better in the second piece than in the first piece.
The name Kaori Komura popped up in Vital Weekly 1393 when she worked with Kazumoto Endo on a track for a compilation, and she plays Korean percussion instruments. In the 1980s, she was a hardcore punk band GISM member. Yutaka Hirose is a tuba player from Tokyo. He’s also “a member of some bands and ensembles such as “tail”, “Zayaendo”, “Aosaba” and “Itsuki-Hirose”. This CD shows a more traditional side of Zappak’s interest in improvised music. The two pieces were recorded a year ago at Permian in Tokyo. Both instruments sound the way they are supposed to, even when I haven’t got a particular notion about the percussion; it sounds percussion, drum, and cymbal-like. I think their music is all about interaction, and they cleverly play with the notion of loud versus quiet. Sometimes, they are both quiet or loud and sometimes, there is that distinction. In ‘Roaring Pulse’, Komura plays an ongoing rhythm at various points, which you do not often see in improvised music. It’s something I somehow enjoy, maybe as something to hang to in what otherwise may come across as slightly more chaotic. At just under an hour long, this is quite a ride, perhaps better enjoyed with one piece at a time. Let this be my choice of improvised music for this week.
And lastly, p.o.p. (psychology of perception) is preferred in lowercase; I am not sure why you would write between brackets what p.o.p. stands for. Why not use one or the other but not both simultaneously? This is the CD that is not by Japanese musicians, and also to have more than two pieces of music, and is a double CD. I reviewed their ‘Tabriz’ CD in Vital Weekly 888 when p.o.p. was a duo of Reinhold Friedl (piano) and Hannes Strobl (electric bass). With their second release, ‘Ikebana’ (not reviewed in Vital Weekly), they were a quartet, adding Nara Krahl (cello) and Elena Kakaliagou (French horn). The information says, “Alien Stewardess”, concentrates on the question: What do the musicians’ bodies know? Four individual musicians, each with his/her own sound and body memory, create a network of interferences and thus a multiplication of the sonic-kinetic perspectives: sensual, three-dimensional, and organic. Let yourself be guided by the alien stewardess in and out of time and space! Enjoy the journey…” This is the sort of text that is too cryptic for me. It reads well, but what does it mean? As with the previous Zappak release, this is all very nicely improvised, albeit of a much different kind, but two discs spanning some 150 minutes of music is a bit much. In their common approach, they like their sounds to be close together, like an acoustic (almost, that is) drone, out of which small sounds pop (pun intended) up. Because their pieces are long, twenty to thirty minutes (except the first ten minutes), playing this music must sometimes be an endurance test, with full-on concentration. Each piece is like a massive and dense cloud; if you look closely, you’ll see the more minor changes. Maybe there is some chaos, too; if you listen closely, it seems as if not much of this makes much sense, and at the same time, there is that tranquil feeling, almost spacious music. Maybe it’s not strange to think of this music as a fruitful meeting of improvisation and modern composition. Great release, but very long. (Reviewed by Frans de Waard)

Upgrade your fashion style with Latest Handbag Trends of 2024
Tumblr media
1. Sustainable Sophistication
2024 is witnessing a surge in eco-friendly handbags, with sustainability becoming a non-negotiable aspect of fashion. Designers are embracing materials like recycled plastics, organic cotton, and even vegan leather. These bags are not just environmentally conscious but also exude a sophisticated charm, proving that style and sustainability can coexist beautifully.
2. Bold Geometric Shapes
Gone are the days of conventional handbag shapes. This year, expect to see a variety of geometrically inspired designs. Think hexagons, triangles, and even abstract shapes that challenge the traditional silhouette of handbags. These bold shapes are not only eye-catching but also add a modern twist to your ensemble.
3. Vibrant Color Splashes
Color is making a big comeback in 2024. Vibrant hues like electric blue, neon green, and hot pink are dominating the scene. These bright colors are perfect for making a statement and adding a pop of fun to any outfit. Whether you’re sporting a monochrome look or an already colorful ensemble, a brightly colored handbag can be the perfect accessory.
4. Tech-Ready Designs
In an era where technology rules, handbags are evolving to keep up. Expect to see designs with built-in phone chargers, pockets for tablets, and even smart compartments that can alert you if you’ve forgotten essential items. These tech-friendly handbags are not just practical; they’re also stylishly designed to suit the tech-savvy fashionista.
5. Miniature Charm
The mini bag trend continues to thrive in 2024. These tiny totes are more about fashion than function, often just big enough to carry your essentials like a phone, a few cards, and a lipstick. They’re cute, they’re chic, and they come in an array of styles, from elegant leather to funky patterns.
6. Luxurious Textures
Texture is a big deal in this year’s handbag trends. Luxurious materials like quilted leather, suede, and even faux fur are making their mark. These textures not only add a touch of luxury to the bags but also offer a sensory experience that is both visually and tactually pleasing.
7. Artistic Collaborations
Art meets fashion in the form of handbags this year. We’re seeing collaborations between designers and artists, resulting in limited-edition pieces that are like carrying a piece of art on your arm. From intricate paintings to avant-garde sculptures, these handbags are for those who appreciate the finer details in fashion.
8. Vintage Revival
Vintage styles are making a strong comeback, with modern interpretations of classic designs from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. Think retro shapes, traditional patterns, and classic materials like leather and canvas. These bags not only pay homage to the past but also offer timeless elegance that transcends current trends.

Electric Sufi - Breathe In Love
This is Breathe in Love, the new album by Electric Sufi. A first single 'O Ignis Spiritus' will be released on 1 February 2023, the album will be released later that year.
Electric Sufi are Sheffield based Professor of Music and Sound Archaeologist at Huddersfield University Rupert Till, Manchester based singer-songwriter and environmental activist Sarah Yaseen and Nottingham based multi-instrumentalist / University lecturer Mina Mikhael Salama.
Rupert has produced ambient dance, chillout and electronic music under the the moniker Professor Chill throughout his career, including the album Dub Archaeology released in 2018. He’s also written the book Pop Cult which delves into the mysteries of music and spirituality, participated in the BBC TV series Civilisations as well as numerous other TV and radio shows, plus written articles in The Quietus, Huffington Post and New Scientist. His extensive research projects have been wide and varied, covering a multitude of subjects ranging from ‘The influences of Religion on British Club Culture and Electronic Dance music’ to ‘Sound Archaeology, Acoustics and Cave Art’.
Sarah, whose family roots are in Kashmir, is known in world music circles as a singer in UK Womad favourites Rafiki Jazz and Danish all-woman ensemble Radiant Arcadia. In Electric Sufi she sings in Urdu, Punjabi, Persian, Latin and English – and by doing so, draws upon a wide range of cultural influences. Inspired by Qawwali (Islamic devotional singing from India) and Ghazals (Arabic poetry), she has one foot firmly placed in a contemporary multicultural world and the other in the ancient lyrical and musical traditions on which she draws.
Mina, a Coptic Christian from Alexandria, Egypt, came to the UK as a refugee, taking asylum here from persecution in his homeland. He has since contributed much to UK culture through his performances at WOMAD, Edinburgh Festival, The Southbank, London as well as Cardiff, Leicester, Manchester and beyond. Along with Rupert, Mina has also contributed to the BBC TV series Civilisations where he demonstrated a 30,000-year-old Isturitz Vulture bone flute. On an international level, Mina has contributed to the music score on Disney’s Aladdin, directed by Guy Richie and starring Will Smith, Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott.
With a first performance at Bradford’s Kala Sangam Arts Centre, which received much applause from a diverse audience, this trio brings much collectively and individually to the Electric Sufi sound, resulting in a rich tapestry of cultural and musical layers of influence that their album Breathe In Love explores in much detail. Their modern interpretation of O Ignis Spiritus is a wonderful introduction to this enchanted world and their message of hope.
