Life Happening without Me

After more than a week now of officially living full-time in our Oliver, I am slowly adjusting to a life of leisure never before experienced. I have always had some project, some property to take care, a house, cabin, a job, kids, something that took my precious time. Now that I am free from almost any assault on my freedom, I find myself struggling and wondering how to cope.  Endless bike rides, all-day opportunities to read and write, take afternoon naps, and discover the natural world around me does little to settle my restlessness.  I am not complaining. This is what I wanted.  The enigma of existence. Wherever I go there I am.  And nothing is required of me but to Be Here Now. Yesterday I sat in my lawn chair for a few minutes under the Ollie awning and petted Bob the dog. We had just returned from another bike ride. I realized then that I have been wearing the poor dog out because of my restlessness. I have to learn to just sit still. The state park we are camping in has over three thousand beautiful acres.  There are boundless photographs available for my camera if I wish to take them. My partner is still on duty in California and there are times I get lonely for her. She is who I talk to intimately. Other people in the park and campground do not interest me. The only people that can give comfort are young mothers with children.  I like them and they seem to like us.  Picture Bob the dog and an old scruffy man riding a dope Electra Townie. We wave and sometimes let the kids meet Bob. But eventually we wheel on, attempting to live in the moment. Moving camp every three or four days helps with the encroaching boredom, but my wish is to learn how to stay put in one place.  Perhaps spend a couple weeks somewhere. Then I believe I will be making progress with my self-awareness. Until then I struggle on, continually engaged in my addictive planning, and willing I suppose to suffer the consequences of life happening without me.

I Am... All Of Me

My top 75 songs bc even though I left some off for sure, I'm not about to wrack my brains trying to remember them, and 75 is as nice a number as any. Order is vaguely chronological. Some of the songs were new (for me), and others I came back to and obsessed over all new. I think probably every one of these songs ended up in my dreams. Some ordered stats:

My top listened to albums were Electra Heart by Marina and the Diamonds, Pawprint Panic! by NAPCAST, and the Wicked Original Broadway Cast Recording.

My top Sonic games that I listened to music from are Sonic and the Black Knight (apparently?), Sonic CD, and Sonic and the Fallen Star (yes I'm counting this). But if you don't count the 3rd one for being a fan game, I guess it would be Sonic '06.

My most common non-English languages to listen to were probably Korean, then Japanese, then Arabic. I'm not counting the songs to figure this out.

Special thanks to these playlists by seultry on youtube for getting me through the last 2 months. Not as obvious as the list I made for 2022/2023, but I did not have a great time this year! This was still fun to make, I'm gonna try to keep track as the year goes for 2025.

Spotify never fails to piss me Off

I don't use spotify enough for spotify wrapped to be remotely accurate. But I think it's fun to reflect on your taste of music for this year, so I was all ready to make a playlist of my top songs this year (which I cannot back up with a metric, but would play each song on loop, for hours at a time at some point during 2024).

Boom, right away first song I try to find for my list spotify does not have! It's not even a small artist or obscure song or anything! "Boy Like You" by Ke$ha ft Ashley Tisdale. I now spent over 20 minutes searching for it before giving up, I want to throw my computer out the window. I'm pretty sure Ke$ha and Ashley Tisdale are pretty well known! This sucks! The very first song on my list. Really, right away spotify was like no fuck you, you don't get your first song.

And I thought about making my top songs of 2024 list without "Boy Like You" but like, it was basically the only song I played at home (looped too) for a solid 3 weeks in January. It wouldn't be accurate! Right away, my first song obsession of the year wouldn't be there! What's the point of the list at that point??

This is why I don't use spotify. Anyway if this get's a single like I'll drop my top songs of 2024 playlist in a reblog, as like, an actual list of song names and artists. Since, y'know, spotify can't help me.

For the most part, during the week I ride by myself and on the weekends, my husband @theintuitivechef joins me. My speed and agility continues to surprise and delight him. He rides a road bike and has ridden with the likes of Lance Armstrong. So when he recently “followed me” ... when we got home he says “honey, ride it like you stole it”. A Grand Day Out: Mt. Eden Park and Mansion

Me and Lorie, my Electra Townie bike, took a ride to the Mount Eden Park and Mansion in here in Hayward. I found that I am strong enough to ride up the bridge over I-880 without having to strain or get off and walk the bike up the ramp.

Once up and over I-880, I was able to take the Eden Greenway linear park, through Southgate Park, over to Hesperian. The pavement of most of this part of the Greenway was very rough compared to the parts of the Greenway I've explored in the Jackson Triangle. This part was rough enough to where I think it would be difficult for anybody using a walker, rollator, or manual push-style wheelchair.

And I learned that I should think about getting a sports bra because even my itty-bitty titties were bouncing enough to be uncomfortable.

This is a new Electra Townie 7d that was listed incorrectly on Facebook. It was ridden 3 times and bought new three years ago. It’s a bright orange bicycle and very comfortable to ride. I bought it for $50. The tires would cost that much.

It is going to Nashville to ride the trails down there. It’s going to a friend so I will not sell this bike. It is to promote cycling.
