ELECTIONWATCH 2024: DeSLUMP IN POLLS

DeSantis, facing stagnating poll numbers and a backlash from his usual Fox News circle jerk, has shifted his campaign funding into the early 4 primary states and started appearing on mainstream news stations like CNN

Rupert Murdoch has officially decided to pull his station and money away from DeSantis, and an aide close to Murdoch said that he would shift focus to Glenn Youngkin (Note: Youngkin is not even running yet).

A DeSantis campaign memo leaked to the press announced that major DeSantis donors are considering jumping ship to Tim Scott, meanwhile the memo itself calls Christie and Pence "dead ends."

As the August 23rd Republican primary debate nears, it seems likely that Trump, DeSantis, Haley, Scott, Christie, Pence, Ramaswamy, and Hutchison seem poised to qualify.

Meanwhile in the Democratic Primary, despite polling suggesting popular Democrat support for primary debates, none will currently be held.

I'm seeing people going "Are the Tories trying to lose the election?* and getting flashbacks to 2017 when the exact same question was being asked. (For example: hbomberguys Electionwatch 2017 vid) As shit as they are I think the answer is no. They're just this shit and are suddenly being burdened with a press that isn't willing to cover their arses over it.

Theresa May used the cover of "but you don't want Corbyn" to run a shockingly half-arsed campaign and still just about won, with the press reaction being to double down on finding Labour scandals. Boris Johnson survived a dozen scandals to the point of being nicknamed "Teflon" because none of it would stick until the press started noticing and he collapsed immediately. Like, in the 2019 election antisemitism was a big topic and no questions had to be asked of him, the author of an absurdly racist book that states that the news media is run by Jews.

For Liz Truss they paid attention real close and she collapsed in seconds. Rishi Sunak fell for his own hype during COVID (SuperRishi comes to mind) and his success in ousting Boris - the garden party scandal pictures literally came from his office window - to believe he was a great political operator. Now he's got to be the face of a national election campaign and it's collapsing because he has 0 charisma, has no fucking clue what he's doing, and with an acceptable alternative the press is suddenly not holding back.

i... love this guy. he has a great accent and i really like his speaking voice and just general way of...............being a person. he’s a really nice person and he has a great sense of humour. as well as his videos about Things, he has a comedy series called Citation Needed which is both hilarious and educational. (when tom is able to keep the other three in check. help him; free him.)

this is linked to tom scott, as he is 50% of them (the tom half, obviously), but it’s really lovely. these two have known each other for a long-ass time (about a decade, i think) and they play off each other really well, and are generally just really funny, as well as rather sweet. there also used to be a podcast with two of their friends chris (who doesn’t have twitter) and gary (who does). it can be found here (scroll to the bottom to “The Audio Episodes), and it is hilarious.

you could start with literally any video because they’re all about as wild as each-other, but one of my favourites is The Ballad of Mad Cap’n Tom: Part One (and if you feel like it, you could continue with Part Two).

jay’s a stand-up (ayy) guy. he’s a very talented musician with a really great sense of humour, who i really, really love. he also likes history of unfinished buildings which is my Jam, and the london underground. basically, he’s the best sort of person.

a song i recommend is Trousers, and a non-song i recommend is Whom Should I Vote For? (which is about english politics, but it’s still funny.)

geoff knows about the history of london, and he also wants you to know about the history of london - and the railway more generally. his videos are really accessible to people who don’t know a whole lot about the subject at hand, while simultaneously not being patronising to people who do know a bit more about the history. even if you think you aren’t interested in it, i would recommend at least giving his videos a watch.

the videos i recommend are Abandoned Tube Stations, Part 1, and when you’ve watched that, you guessed it, Abandoned Tube Stations, Part 2.

i wouldn’t recommend watching this particular guy’s videos if you don’t want to watch stuff about social justice, but if you do want to watch content like that then hbomberguy would be my first recommendation, because he approaches it in a very witty and relatable way. he just generally seems like a really nice person to be around, ya know?

want to watch videos on youtube about climate physics? sure you do - or at least if they’re from this guy. he’s a genuinely very funny man, and he’s also got some good Opinions about books. he also runs a book club with his housemate, but i would advise seeing if you’re interested in his videos before you join in on that. he sings too! in a church choir! (his videos about science can get a little heavy. still love ‘em though.)
