Research: Simon Roberts

- Explicitly shows politics

- Slightly elevated (he had used his vehicle)

- Small dramas being played out - theatre style

- All images contained natural light

- Separates himself from the media crowd, he had used a tripod-mounted, large format camera often shot from the top of his own vehicle -> media and politicians are the part of his big picture -> showing the scene

- Landscape images with the politicians, media and ordinary people

- Tableaux -> a group of models or motionless figures representing a scene from a story or from history.

In this first image, it shows the day of the election, the residents are off to vote and the ones who have already voted are going back to their ordinary lives. 

In the second image, the labour party were undertaking great deeds within the community. This was a big event as Gordon Brown had said a rude comment towards a lady named Gillian Duffy. “biggot”.

The Election Eve project proposal

Performance from the previous brief

Throughout the course of the 5 senses brief I had carried out many types of different styles and had learnt to use a variety of editing software as well as different lenses. I had given my perspectives of how I see the different types of senses and linked them all with a personal meaning to them. For the past 2 months I had managed to get all my research and some tests for the senses completed at least two weeks before the brief was needed to be handed in. When I had experimented on the 75-300mm lens, I had focused heavily on the taste, sight and hearing sense and I had tried out different lengths of which the lens was providing. With this it had made the project more interesting for me as it caught my mind on what lens I wanted to use for the taste sense. Also, influenced by the few photographers I had to research from this brief, I had taken many photos in a similar style to allow me to experiment on how I could possibly show off a certain sense.

Evaluations/Self-Reflection for the new brief

- Try to experiment more with editing on Photoshop - Experiment with a variety of lenses instead of restricting myself - Possibly stay within the local area for all images to create more of a link between them all - For climate change, possibly think of many more ways of showing the physical issues that are happening due to it - Always ask for feedback from a variety of people, whether that be from the teacher, fellow classmates or even family

Election Eve project proposal aims

For this specific project, I intend to focus on a few subjects that relate to me. The three subjects I have chosen to work with are climate change, transport and politics. I purposely chose transport because to me this is one of my favourite topics that I have had passion for since I was very young. Growing up with the continuously growing transport network, I have seen many routes become withdrawn or re-routed and back then I wasn’t able to document it. For this project, I want to show my love for transport and show my perspective of how I visualise the transport network in London. For this specific topic, I am planning to show off things that will eventually be withdrawn in the dear future. Those things are pictures of old tube trains that are still running on the Bakerloo line, a new routemaster in the heart of London and possibly capture diesel buses in the Central area where the ULEZ is. Following on from the idea of diesel, the second topic I wanted to focus thoroughly on is climate change. I have a huge interest within climate change as the environment is being damaged through many products from the greenhouse gasses. Gasses like carbon dioxide is one of the most common toxic gasses that we have within the atmosphere. Whether it may be produced from the power stations or diesel vehicles, it still creates a huge impact on the Earth’s environment. So, for this topic, I want to show pictures of what is physically happening that some people do not realise is going on continuously. Those things are traffic with tons of fumes being emitted, power stations emitting CO2, a hazy London skyline from a far distance (possibly a bridge on the A13) and possibly pictures of floods. Lastly, I want to do a topic in which affects us young people in the future and that is politics. For this topic, I want to take pictures of things that relate to politics, that may be banners on fences, protests around Parliament or even MP’s in the local area. Furthermore, I want to work more closely with a 75-300mm lens as well as the 18- 55mm lens so that it provides more variety in distances for the photos.
