You had just moved to Whitechapel after things went badly where you used to live. You were hoping for a fresh start and that you could manage to fit in here.

As you walked into the school building you took in your surroundings and started to gage whether there was anyone you wanted to be friends with. There were a few people who looked kind and if you spotted them in your lessons you would sit with them but for now you could only try and find your first class, English.

Stepping into the classroom many people are sat down and turned away from the door talking amongst their friends. This left only a few options of people who sat alone. One of them caught your eye, he was looking at you and smiling so you took that as your invitation.

During the lesson you had found out he was called Ethan, you shared many of the same interests and he had friends that you could sit with at lunch. You could relax now knowing that you knew people in the school. When lunch came Ethan waved you over to his table and you got to know everyone. You got along with all of them, especially Ethan.

By your second month at the school you had settled in and became apart of the friend group. You had even developed a small crush on Ethan, his nerdy nature just made him attractive to you.

There had been something that concerned you though. As you were walking to class one day, you and Ethan were joking around and he pushed you jokingly. This caused him to stop suddenly. You were more confused when he seemed to come back alive suddenly and didn’t comment on what just happened. You suspiciously left it alone but the whole mood of conversation changed. Ethan seemed deep in his thoughts and made fake pleasantries when you tried to joke or speak to him. You were thankful when you arrived at the door of your next class, you waved Ethan goodbye and he gave a halfhearted one back while he staggered down the rest of the hallway.

Unbeknownst to you Ethan had a vision when he touched your arm. He saw you, well the back of you but he knew it was you, with tentacles emerging from your front. He didn’t know what to think or to do, whether he should confront you about it or not. Ethan had started to like you and he hadn’t told you about any of the supernatural things yet because he wanted to protect you but this completely changed his perspective. He was concerned for your safety if anyone was to find out.

He had been distant for a day or two and this had caused you to spiral thinking you had said something wrong that upset him. The moment in the hallway replayed in your mind going over what you said. You came up blank every time though so when Ethan text you saying he wanted to talk your gut twisted with anxiety. You were going to lose all your friends.

Ethan waited in a secluded part of the park for you, nervously wringing his hands. He didn’t know how to confront you about it without scaring you. When you arrived he was going to sit you down and slowly explain what he saw and how but instead the first words that came flying out his mouth were “I know you can summon Eldridge horrors”. You took a step back thinking any relationships you had built in Whitechapel were over and you would have to move away again. Ethan came closer and calmed the situation down by explaining how he wasn’t afraid you would hurt him because the majority of friends you had were vampires. He also explained how Benny did magic and that he was a seer, which is how he knew about your secret. It all clicked into place now, realising what happens in the hallway. As you cleared any build up of tears from your eyes you looked up into Ethan’s eyes and found comfort in them. He pulled you into a hug and told you the everyone would be welcoming of you.

The next day Ethan decided to tell Benny first and he got so excited. He had always wanted to see this in real life and he begged you to show him. So after school in the back field you summoned your tentacles. Ethan’s vision finally happened and Benny leaped with excitement. You just turned to look at Ethan and laughed at Benny together. You liked where things were going, he had seen the true you and hadn’t been scared off.

Extra headcanons:

-Ethan would be very nervous when he finally asked you out, he felt that you were out of his league. You of course accepted as soon as he stopped nervously rambling and kissed him on his cheek.

-when you were dating Ethan loved to have you by his side for his own comfort and to know that you were safe.

-he felt the need to be protective over you even though you were definitely capable of taking care of any threats

-you would help out with the groups supernatural adventures, which worried Ethan to no end but you always reassured him

-Ethan wasn’t big on pda but he loved having his hands on you in private. Definitely fell asleep in each others arms. I feel he is partial to being the small spoon.

-would be so sweet and such a gentleman. Never lets you open a door again in his presence.

-he is always getting annoyed at Benny because he always interrupts your alone time together. You’ll be lying in bed together and Benny just comes rushing in his rooms wanting to play video games.

-I think one of his love languages is spending time together so would love to do each others hobbies together

-definitely found it hot when you used your powers.

Luke 14 - 15

Today is the 27th day of October. I'm Jill, welcome to Daily Audio Bible Chronological. I'm thrilled that you're here and I'm honored to be here and to be reading the word of God for us as a community. But we also do that individually, sometimes collectively, but definitely as a part of a greater community. That is the Daily Audio Bible. We are smack dab in the Gospels, reading, learning, and knowing about this man named Jesus. We hear him described so many different ways as Lord Savior, a redeemer, Emmanuel God with us, but we rarely think of Him as a disruptor to the system. But we're seeing so clearly how Jesus truly did shake things up for the religious by being intentional with people that society would normally disregard or dispose of. And yet he was so intentional with them, healing many of them, touching many of them, even speaking to women publicly, which was such a societal no no for that time and tradition. I love how John Eldridge describes Jesus in one of his books. He titled it and called Jesus the Beautiful Outlaw. And so here we are learning, reading, hearing, and hopefully knowing more about this beautiful man who is fully man, fully God, emmanuel Jesus, God with us. Let's dive in to the Scriptures. Today we're reading Luke, chapter 14 and 15, and this week we're reading the New Living Translation. Luke chapter 14.

Commentary

So in the last part of our reading today, we have three parables, which are the direct teachings of Jesus back to back. The parable of the lost sheep, the parable of the lost coin, the parable of the lost son. The key word for the theme for all three parables is lost, lost sheep, lost coin, lost son. I think it's so easy for us to just go ahead and assume and then define who's lost based on behaviors, words, our own judgment. And I hear this and I think, man, I get lost, I get distracted. I like to find my own path and walk on it and just, peace out. I will catch you later if I feel like it. And if I don't, then I'll just keep on this path that I'm going on because I think I know better. And then this story, the parable of the lost Son, really just hits it home, doesn't it? Like we find ourselves as the boy working in the field, right? Just like I've been here, I've been faithful to you. I didn't swindle away and squander what you gave me to invest. I've not left your side. I have helped you. And you're going to give you're just going to give my brother that acted completely irresponsible. You're going to throw him a party. And why? Why are we celebrating? Or maybe you've heard this phrase that I keep hearing. Why are we going to celebrate his sin? I am not going to celebrate or love him and make him think what he's done is right. Oof. It's so amazing. We want God to be fair and just when it comes to us, but we rarely want it for other people when it seems as if they are less deserving of the same love, the same mercy, the same grace that is available to us. His father spells it out so clearly to him. Dear Son, you have always stayed with me. Everything I have is yours. We had to celebrate this happy day, for your brother was dead and has come back to life. He was lost. There's that word lost. But now he is found. I have been lost. I have been distracted. I have lost my way. I have walked away. If you want to know who the lost is, who is the one that Jesus would leave the 99 to find, the one for, it could literally be any of us. We could look in the mirror. We could look at our neighbor. We could look across the street. We could look at those in our church. We could look at those that we dine with, that we are in the park with, that we work with, all of us are capable of being lost. All of us are capable of wandering away. All of us are capable of being distracted. But until we look at those around us as the one. The one that Jesus would leave the 99 to go find. Until we can muster enough grace and mercy for our own brother who has been away. Our own son. Our own child. Our own spouse who has been away but has come back. I think we have to start seeing people as the one that Jesus would leave to find. Rather than the ones that Jesus would reject. Dismiss. Cancel out. And never even approach them in the first place.

Prayer

Father, we thank you for your word today. We thank you for the reminder that you will go to great lengths for us to welcome us back, to help us find our way, to help those of us who get lost along the journey, who get distracted like a sheep would, who get lost like a coin would get misplaced, and who consciously walk away to do their own thing. I thank you that we have this reminder that you go to great lengths to come after us, and I pray that you would give us eyes to see those around us as the ones that you would leave the safe place to go and rescue. Help us. Help us to be rescuers, to lead the sheep back to the flock. Help us to be the ones that will go find the one lost coin that has the woman in distress. Help us to be the ones who set the table for the celebration, for the one that comes back home, and help us be the one to leave the field that has had everything available to us and be the first one to meet the one returning home. I pray for the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, to give us courage to step out, to speak out, not join the collective choir of voices yelling out unfair. How unjust that we would see the things that you did that did not make sense and that we would move according to the Spirit of God. I pray this now in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen.

Help us to hear Your truth, Jesus, and carry it throughout the day, helping to build our faith in our daily lives. We just ask you to help them to find Your way, and you define what being done in their life. We just ask you to protect them and guide them and keep them further. We also want to pray for Sam, who's got multiple sclerosis is, and we want to pray for Jessica that the tumors keep coming back. Lord, we want to ask you to demolish those tumors, that they will not return again. We cast them to the pits by the power of the Holy Ghost. Lord, we just ask you to have Your way in those young people's lives. Lord, we ask you to have Your way. Lord, you guide them and you continue to protect them and continue to keep them. Lord, let Your divine will be done. Help them to find their way in You, Lord, in the name of Jesus, and we just ask you to continue to have Your way, Lord, in the lives of Your people. I made what I’m calling a memory table for the Eldridge Park exhibit today. The idea is that people can write down their memories of the park and leave them for other visitors to read. I can’t install it until after our big event this weekend but it’s ready to go.

BACKSTORY

Brielle Dhara was an only child to Michael and Elise Dhara, to others they looked like a picture perfect family in the beginning - but behind closed doors it was nothing short of a nightmare. Her mother was a registered nurse at the local emergency department, and usually worked the night shift and her father was unemployed and living off of disability after being injured when serving in Afghanistan. She was seven when her father got medically discharged from the army, and that was when the abuse began. She went through high school having no clue that what her father was doing, wasn’t normal - until one of her classmates had noticed bruising at the side of her abdomen when they were changing in gym class. Her father was arrested when she was seventeen, and her mother committed suicide after realizing what he had done and what she hadn’t done to prevent it after seeing all the signs. At age 18, she moved away to live with her aunt in Colorado. After Samuel’s death, she ended up moving back to California as she wanted to be there for the Eldridge family like they were for her as Samuel was like a little brother to her
