We received a review copy of The Elder Scrolls: The Official Cookbook Vol. 2. While we've yet to make any of the meals from it, we have read it. The cookbook is written from an in-universe perspective, from a young chef adventuring across Tamriel to learn more about cooking.
Tumblr media
There were a lot of little details that were very interesting to us from a lore perspective, this book legitimately gives us one of the largest looks at life in the Fourth Era across Tamriel. Very surprisingly, it even seemingly confirms the events of one of Skyrim's questlines.
Tumblr media
We were particularly surprised that it gave us a look into some of the regions that it did, like the Summerset Isles (although we can't show you previews from those pages yet). And this book can be added to the growing list of evidence that others are aware of M'aiq the Liar.
Tumblr media
There was even a surprising segment that explored a very niche lore topic that was of interest to one of our editors (can't show you the preview from that one yet either).
Tumblr media
It's kind of strange that one of the most common complaints about recipes are the unnecessary stories that get attached to them, but for this book it was one of the highlights for us. Ironically, this cookbook made us really hungry for them to release more official Elder Scrolls books.
You can find the publisher's official list of links to this book here, and it should be released officially very soon.

I'm an artist, and my friend who is obsessed with Skyrim (the reason why I even play the game) had a birthday this month. I was scrolling online to see if I could order something for them and found the cheap, made-to-print spiral notebook version of the Oghma Infinium and thought... I can do that, but better. So I did.
I took a few creative liberties and obviously it's not EXACT but my friend thinks it's cool and I think it's cool so. There it is.

Early on in the Mages Guild's existence they started a summer reading program aimed at children. It functioned not only to boost awareness of and membership to the guild, but also to encourage critical thinking and research to children, particularly on magical subjects, as well as boost childhood literacy rates.
They kept the program up for many years until it became a victim of bureaucratic nonsense and got cut for "budgetary reasons" during the guild's decline.

The Daedric Alphabet
Tumblr media
"I tire of all spell scrolls I come across saying Woe Upon You. Why not something nicer, like Joy Upon You?"
- Seeks-For-Knowledge
The Daedric alphabet is used by both the Dunmer and the Daedra, the Dunmer using it as a remnant from a time when they worshipped the Daedra, before the Battle of Red Mountain in the First Era.
Exceptions
The letters Xayah (X) and Yahkem (Y) are sometimes omitted in scrolls and books, leaving only a blank space where the letter would be. They appear more commonly in banners and signs.
Writing styles
Daedric is not always written from left to right. On occassion it is written from up to down instead. Some places even write it upside down or mirrored, though this is less common. However, the most interesting way to write it is the decorative way often used in signs and banners, where the letters can overlap each other and vary in size, though the starting letter tends to be the largest, and different in colour than the rest.
Tumblr media
Traveler's advice: If you ever journey to Morrowind, learning the basics of the Daedric alphabet can really enrich your journey, and also lessen the humiliating need to ask for directions when standing right by signs written in Daedric.

I finished Lord of Souls last night. Read 200 pages in one sitting. What an incredible book! The themes of love and friendship in it were absolutely wonderful. It touched on all different types of love too, not just romantic, and it didn't treat platonic love as if it was lesser than romantic. That was awesome.

Its fun to meme about how the dragons all look like birds doing poses in Adam's concept art, but its very clear that Adam was working directly off real reference photos of avians as he was designing the dragons.
There's a piece I've not posted yet which is a super cute plan view sketch of Adam's office and one of the things he labels is a shelf full of reference books. I'd bet real money there was a picture book of birds on that shelf. God I'd love to see the actual bird pictures he borrowed his dragon poses from.
