I love this possibility, and to me, it seems Sarah has already planted seeds for it (both in the original trilogy and spin-off). Imo, she’ll probably get help from a source many wouldn’t expect: the priestesses. There’s a dawn ritual that helps priestesses become one with the Mother, which sounds a lot like how Feyre moved through the world when she was connected to the Cauldron through a living bond. Elain’s connection to the Cauldron, covered in vines and buds, is actually a living bond.
Elain's Power
Lately I've been thinking about Elain's powers and how SJM gonna elaborate on them. She's a seer obviously so made me curious what other powers might be associated with the 'seer' archtype. From what I've found, my fav is 'Astral Projection' haha. It seems so fitting for Elain who has been repeatedly compared with spy like behaviour. I also like that it isn’t just some omnipotent power. I mean there’s the risk of physical and mental harm to the body that comes with it. Ofc Azriel can protect her when she is out of body surfing hehe.
Also this power also unlocks the possibility of my favourite crack theory ever: Balthazar is Elain
Astral Projection could allow Elain to take control of Balthazar and help Nesta in the blood rite without the need to shapeshift. It takes a lot of mental strength to effectively possess someone. To me Elain seems like the perfect candidate to showcase that physical strength isn’t everything :D
Anyways what do you guys think? What other powers could Elain have? Life magic is another one I feel SJM will explore with Elain. I've read some pretty amazing theory posts about that so I am cautiously hopeful about that you never know with sjm

u know if the high lords actually hated rhysand -bc of a big fucking mountain of factually evidence as to why they should not only despise his ass but want him dead- they wouldn’t have brought him back to life just cause he did one good thing
tbh he did what was expected of every high lord to do as their part in defeating hybern king, so what he gave his life like that was expected that’s war but whatever ig
my point is the other high lords aren’t real haters nor are smart ppl
like ur bringing back the guy who did all that to u and ur people????? are u fucking dumb?????

It’s strange to me that someone was so upset about a fun headcanon that they felt the need to send this. No one is claiming this is canon and there’s no need to compete; multiple headcanons and theories can coexist in peace.
Because I enjoy theorizing, I do want to address the “random” claim here. I’m not sure the anon read the full post or reblogs because the headcanon isn’t random. There’s a lot we don’t know about those with the gift of clairvoyance, and the Cauldron and Amren (one of which is the source of powers), are very (probably intentionally) vague about Elain’s powers.
There is decent evidence that Elain possesses the powers of oracles and mystics. How else are mystics able to communicate with creatures across the world and universe if their power does not transcend the boundaries of language? It’s possible this knowledge carries over into her regular social interactions with others. We don’t know, but I bet we’ll find out either way.
And like her sister Nesta, who benefitted from the support of the priestesses at Dusk, Elain may also tap into their witchy tools and powers to amplify her own abilities at Dawn.
It’s not random, but even if it was, who cares?
Why would Elain be able to speak the language of Midgard? 💀 How random is that Lmao
Not just the language of Midgard actually, but any language. I’m working off of the assumption that the Mystics power & Elains are similar, if not the same.
I find it more random that you decided to send me this anon, obviously trying to disparage something that I’ve said. Once again if you don’t like something, it’s as simple as blocking and moving on with your day. ❤️

"Tamlin did nothing to help Feyre under the mountain!"
He sent her away for that very reason. He wouldn't be able to protect her the way she'd need to be. She chose to come back and knew this. Was warned. Any inclination of even knowing her would have her dead. Anyone remember poor Claire? His powers were leashed and he being watched. He sent Lucien as aid. The moment they did have alone was one born of desperation that they both - I repeat, BOTH, succumbed to with him kissing her and Feyre reaching for his belt trying to fuck him. When things got bad, he begged for Feyre’s life and crawled to her through a wound pierced in his heart. He killed Amarantha the moment the curse broke and the opportunity came.
But he did nothing.
Sure.
Why didn't Rhysand just winnow her away? He had the most contact with her alone during that time (though the majority was her drunk as fuck, dressed in scraps and performing as Rhysand’s plaything practically naked for 3 months straight for...reasons. He had the most freedom out of all the HL's. He could have done more. But alas, the plot needs to be moved forward and everything he did is fine now, so...heart eyes, I guess? 😍🤭)
Now, what I'd say is doing nothing is Feyre and Rhysand just standing there as Elain and Nesta were kidnapped from their beds due to Feyre sharing Intel with Ianthe about her sisters. And then the Queens also knowing of her sister. Her sisters who she dragged; practically forced into Prythian's mess and couldn't even keep them protected. They both just stood there as Elain and Nesta were plunged into the Cauldron, essentially killing and remaking them against their will, not even fighting as hard as Tamlin and Lucien did for women they didn't even know.
That speaks more volume to me.

elain is a seer. you know what you need to be able to see clearly? light. sunshine is about more than just her affinity for growing things, it’s about her ability to see clearly. literally and figuratively. her visions don’t manifest clearly until Lucien, an embodiment of light, is present. notice how little we’ve heard of her powers, other than her being denied the choice to help scry in SF, and Lucien has been largely absent from Velaris. how can she see clearly in the midst of night? night court black saps the life out of her. her connection to light is so strong that azriel’s shadows flee in her presence (azriel’s shadows which are a manifestation of his own power). that is not opposites attract, that’s a physical representation of incompatibility.

"Cassian's waiting for you, Nesta," Azriel said-tone gentling. "Take off the Mask." Nesta stayed silent, Ataraxia ready in her hand. One swipe, and Azriel would be dead. "He's waiting for you at the House of Wind," Azriel went on. "At home." Another blink from Nesta. The silver fire banked a little. Like whoever Cassian was, and whatever the House of Wind was … they might be the only things capable of fighting the siren song of the Mask. "Gwyn and Emerie are waiting," Azriel pushed. "And Feyre and Elain." The silver flame flared at that. Then Azriel said, "Nyx is waiting, too." The silver flame went out entirely.

We are not the same.
Some folks: SJM foreshadowed a blood duel between Azriel and Lucien in the Bonus Chapter to win Elain’s heart/claim his mate.
Me, an intellectual: SJM foreshadowed the blood duel in regard to Lucien because he will use it to save Elain’s life, likely from Beron, because this time he will be powerful enough to stop Jesminda’s fate from repeating itself again.

Az knew the name to Elain's powers but all that means is he could have provided the exact same information for anyone displaying the signs of being a Seer.
Elain's Seer powers are not unique to Elain, there have been other Seers throughout history.
But Lucien knowing Elain needed to be taken outside specifically to the sea or a garden? Lucien reaching out through the bond then thinking back on what he saw inside of her, the thing that made him blush? Those thoughts / emotions were unique to Elain and only Elain.
Elain as Elain and Elain as "Elain the Seer" are two very different things and "Elain the Seer" is no more romantic than the Bone Carver alluding to Nesta being Death.

Elain Archeron Week, Day 1: Visions
Tumblr media
I've theorised before about how I think Elain's powers - specifically her Sight, but possibly other aspects of her magic, too - might work, with regards to her murky realm/the Void, the effects of light and even magical medicinals (could witchberries play a part instead of bloodbane?) so today I want to talk a little about why I think having such a useful power could be so meaningful for Elain.
ACOSF suggested that Elain was raised by Mama Archeron to have no independent thought; no dreams of her own, no goals bigger than her garden. She was to be the family's pawn on the marriage mart in their quest for power. Valued for her looks alone, not for what she could do.
Elain is pleasant to look at, her mother had once mused while Nesta sat beside her dressing table, a servant silently brushing her mother’s gold-brown hair, but she has no ambition. She does not dream beyond her garden and pretty clothes. She will be an asset on the marriage market for us one day, if that beauty holds, but it will be our own maneuverings, Nesta, not hers, that win us an advantageous match. Nesta had been twelve at the time. Elain barely eleven. She’d absorbed every word of her mother’s scheming, plans for futures that had never come to pass. - ACOSF, chapter 17
And then Azriel said this...
But Azriel asked softly, taking a single step over the threshold and into the sitting room, “What other?” Elain’s brows twitched toward each other. “The queen—with the feathers of flame.” The shadowsinger angled his head. Lucien murmured to me, eye still fixed on Elain, “Should we—does she need …?” “She doesn’t need anything,” Azriel answered without so much as looking at Lucien. Elain was staring at the spymaster now—unblinkingly. “We’re the ones who need …” Azriel trailed off. “A seer,” he said, more to himself than us. “The Cauldron made you a seer.” - ACOWAR, chapter 32
Besides the fact that Sight must be an incredibly difficult power to navigate at the best of times, I will always wonder how much it meant to Elain to hear she was needed for a skill. Something she could work at and contribute that went beyond the looks she was born with. Something that could - and did - allow her to prove her mother wrong when her own "maneuverings" saved lives at the end of ACOWAR.
Even before Elain understood what was happening, while she was still lost in her murky realm, she tried to use her visions to warn/help her family. One of her biggest contributions being her untrained doe eyes peering across the world, leading Feyre to the Suriel in ACOWAR, then of course everything that followed when she ignored orders to return to camp and ended up killing the King of Hybern and saving Nesta and Cassian, and massively weakening Hybern's army.
Our trembling fawn has a backbone of steel, I can't wait for her to shine and grow in her own book. 🌿

Anyway six-year-old Elucien's daughter coming home like "MOM DAD LOOK WHAT I FOUND" and it's a feral creature from the woods that snarls at them.
Said feral creature is Tamlin's six-year-old daughter, Dahlia.
