Hello everyone!! :D
Here are the prompts lists of this year!
Kustard week starts Sunday, September 15th and ends Sunday, September 21st!
There are 2 list, so everyone has more options for each day, you can also combine the prompts for both lists for any of the days (e.g. Fairy and Stargate too add some spice XD).
Follow your heart and enjoy this year's kustardweek! And don't forget to use the tags #kustardweek and #kustardweek2024 when posting your entries. N/sfw entries should be tagged with #kustardweek2024nsfw so they can be safely blocked and so we can find them easier to share in an appropriate way ^_^
The event is made to have fun! It can be sfw and n/sfw, but because we can't moderate everyone's age on Twitter and Tumblr, we will retweet/blog only sfw works. The discord server will be sfw AND n/sfw (age verification to access n/sfw channels) so any n/sfw works can be shared there in the appropriate channels.
Prompts in text form and with less flashy fonts for your convenience~
MYTHICAL MONSTERS:
DAY 1: Fairy DAY 2: Dragon DAY 3: El Chupacabra DAY 4: Werewolf DAY 5: Mermaid DAY 6: Harpy DAY 7: Sphinx
SCI-FI:
DAY 1: Stargate DAY 2: Space Prison DAY 3: Deep Space Exploration DAY 4: Time Travel DAY 5: Constellations or Stars DAY 6: Star Wars DAY 7: Alien Abduction
Pick either or both for each day! :D

Workbuilding Fundamentalist question: when it comes to dates, times and calendars in a fantasy setting where do you stand? I'm always conflicted as a writer just because changing the length of a year or what all the months are called all makes sense given that most fantasy worlds aren't earth and because every month is named after a person or deity and our calendar has been changed like 7 times in the real world. And yet I don't want to throw all this extra work at the reader.
Example I have a gas dwarf planet with like, winderwaker islands poking out above the gaseous ocean what people live on. And there's only 4 months in a year there so a 64 year old is still a teenager and it just seems like a lot to make someone keep track of.
First of all, very cool setting, I love islands among the clouds! Now, this is actually something I've given a lot of thought into, and might become a real concern if humanity goes to other planets.
There's, for example, an opening line of a Heinlein novel (IIRC) where a girl says she's 10 years old and thus old enough to marry, which is true, on Mars (the year is 687 days there). There is no reason, if one is designing a new planet, or even finding one IRL, to expect it to have the same day and year lenght to Earth, not even close. Mars with 21 hours is pretty close, but the length of our year and day is really just a cosmic coincidence. You could easily have an reasonably earth-like planet with shorter years (because it's closer to its star, or just revolves faster), or longer days or years.
However, very few fictional settings bother with this, and it's not hard to see why, you can have all sorts of exotic additions to your setting, but to wrap our head through different lenghts of the year or the day is a bit too much. Even different week lenghts, which did exist on history, sound strange. There are all sorts of different fantasy and sci-fi calendars, but at the root, most authors operate with "Earth-time". I don't blame them, it is 'extra work' for some readers, and it's not easy to wrap our head around, it's easier to say "this is sort of an alternate Earth" and be done with it. Also, to lenghten or shortern the year or day might bring all sorts of consequences from ecology to climate that should be considered, otherwise it's just a lame gimmick in my opinion.
HOWEVER, it's still an interesting piece of worldbuilding to consider!
Calendars of a sort have existed since humans started to count seasons and days, but our current society where there are calendars and clocks everywhere is quite recent, actually. I'm sure you are aware of the different calendars besides the BCE-CE one was imposed as the standard, many cultures . But there are also different ways of counting years;. The classic one is seasons, farming societies of course need it the most but hunter-gatherers also follow and know the seasons. There is no reason at all for them to correspond to the "temperate" seasons (summer, fall, winter, spring). Dry and wet seasons, cold and summer, and other options are not only possible, but have actually been widespread on human history. I recommend reading on Wikipedia about seasons, especially the section about non-calendar based seasons.
Of course the above applies to pre-industrial civilizations where timekeeping isn't as widespread. But even in those, counting years and ages is treated differently. Birthdays, for example, don't exist in all cultures. Koreans still count age based on the Korean new year, not your birthday. Some medieval Christian celebrated on the feast of the saint they were named after (and there are lots of them) or IIRC, their baptism. And so, a culture as yours might use different ways of counting the age of a person, perhaps by more "qualitative" rituals than just counting the years (though I have a feeling they would quickly adapt to their own calendar). Much like I told you about different kinds of seasons for different climates, I imagine that in worlds where the years are too short (or too long) to really make sense for the average person, some other ways of counting time will prevail. For example, are there predictable climate cycles in your planet? Moons (lunar calendars are always fun)? I can assume your planet has shorter years because it's closer to your star (by any chance, did you base it on red-dwarf orbiting planets?), so perhaps you could use something regarding the very visible star to count time?
Like I said at the beginning, this will be a real concern when humanity expands through space, and there's even a bit of debate if the human body can adapt to such heavy changes on its circadian rhytm. In any case, my prediction is that there would be a "Earth time", that is, 24-hours day and 365 day year, that is kept as standard out of convenience and in spaceships and space habitats (in my own setting Campoestela, it's called "ship time" because human spaceships use it as standard) and lots of "local times" on different planets with all the quirks I mentioned above, with everyone going into space learning how to convert their own time to "Earth time". Or maybe, to make things even more fun and, admittedly, complicated to the reader, the time of another time is taken as a standard. There's lots to play with here.
DON'T even ask me about relativistic time (like in Interstellar) because it makes my head hurt, even if I did use it a couple times on my stories. But "ship time" might be a real thing. Some cultures might have completely different 'times', not calendars, actually *times*, depending on relativistic time delation.
BTW anon, sorry for using this to promote myself, but if anyone loved this rant and would like to see more, I would appreciate some tips on my ko-fi (given the situation down here, now more than ever) and suggestions for other topics to talk about!

The Unchained Promethean Heart
Fandom: DC Comics
Ships: Bart Allen/Kon El
Ratings: M
Warnings: cosmic horror, mental illness on 9000, Fourth World fuckery, love between a god and his mortal clonebabe, Metron cameos, the Linear Men are here, somebody's going to jail, gay people rearranging reality to their liking
Summary: As Bart and Kon embark on their new life together in Manchester, Alabama, Bart reminisces on his forced institutionalization and the ten million crimes against reality that got him to this point. What’s a case of anxiety-fueled unreality compared to the bright future ahead of them? Not a damn thing. After all, everything's fair game when you're a multiversal anomaly like Bart and Kon.
[post-House of Brainiac; bastardizes Simon Spurrier's The Flash; direct sequel to 'The Deification of One Bartholomew Henry Allen II' & 'In Dreams Until My Death, I Will Wander On'; written for 2024 BartKon Week (Heart & Bones Edition), Day 7 - People of Manchester, Alabama + Nightmares]
~~~
This was probably my most unhinged fic for the week. I figured since it was the last day, it was either go big or go home.
This fic heavily dissects the happenings of Young Justice #16, by Brian Michael Bendis. It will make more sense if you reread it. Feel free to also look up Jack Kirby's Fourth World concepts, as the story also incorporates a lot of his sci-fi horror. :'>
Hope y'all enjoyed 2024 BartKon Week! Thank you for celebrating with me, and don't forget to leave a review! ( •̀ .̫ •́ )✧
It's the fifth anniversary of Jason Todd's death
Today is the fifth anniversary of the day that Jason Todd and Sheila Haywood were murdered, so I thought I would post a write-up unifying all of the information that we have on the case. There have been a lot of posts about Jason over the years, but this case is so weird and has so many branches to it, I don’t think that anyone’s ever compiled all of them in one place.
#Justice4Gotham by Havendance So, uh, Hi. I’m still alive. I didn’t die of the clench (barely). I’m kind of sorry for disappearing on you for so long but life just got really busy and I didn’t really have time to chase after Batman and Robin anymore. I’m not sure how many of you guys still check this blog, but if you are out there, I’ve got a big favor to ask you all.
On June 27th at 7:03pm, Gotham City was hit by the worst earthquake the east coast has seen in, like, ever. And now we could really use your help.
Night Blogger by AnonDude There's a blogger catching the internet's attention with a long, insane, and twisted tale. The problem is, he seems to persist under the impression that he's just a random anonymous blogger looking for advice on his relationship. That's all.
QuillsNFrills: I like your first entry! But I'm a little unsure as to what genre you're aiming for here; it seems a little confused and all over the place. It's clear you want it to be something more lurking under the guise of a simple relationship blog, but is that…mystery? Thriller? A dark romance? Sci-fi/fantasy/magic (with the…whatever is going on with BF's head)? I'm also kind of wondering if I'm reading right that maybe there are hints this isn't a reliable narrator? Maybe that will continue…eyes. Anyway, keep up the good work! – April 15, 2023 –
BlueberryPancakes: this […] only continued to get MORE wild, and despite the "clearing up"…I still don't know whether to believe […] it's supposed to be an obvious red herring and this is all an Experience^tm, or whether this is really OP's life. – April 17, 2023 –
A preliminary examination of potential significant others (last saved by T. This is the first step in that process.
Short SFF Books!
I know getting into SFF can be difficult because of the sheer size of series and books in the genres. So here’s a couple of speculative fiction picks that don’t require that much time to read :)
I’ve also made a part two for this, so check that out if you’d like some more short SFF!
This Is How You Lose The Time War, by Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone
209 pages
sapphic rep
standalone
This one is a classic when it comes to short sci-fis (thank you, Bigolas Dickolas), and that’s definitely for a reason! This Is How You Lose The Time War is a story in an incredibly unique format that will, to be honest, probably emotionally devastate you in some way or another.
Time War follows Red and Blue, two agents working for opposite sides of, you know it, a time war. Their job is to travel through time to change the odds for their respective “agencies”. But, of course, they can’t resist leaving each other messages along in the way - in the most unique manners possible.
This queer novella will take your breath away. It will lead you through multiple timelines, split into two perspectives, Red and Blue, with a beautiful, lyrical writing style, which will make you so invested in our two main characters. The author duo treats us to these fantastical, vivid settings, which are sparkling with potencial and leave you wanting to dive deeper.
Silver In The Wood, by Emily Tesh
112 pages
achillean rep
duology
This is part of the Greenhollow Duology, but can absolutely be read as a standalone. It’s also one of my all time favorites! Silver In The Wood follows Tobias, a groundskeeper who lives deep in the woods. When Henry Silver moves into the house Tobias watches, things change - there’s something in the woods, and Tobias might just have to introduce Henry to it.
It’s been a while since I read this, but I haven’t forgotten about it. I’m always thinking about this book. The vibes are simply immaculate, and so cozy. It will literally make you feel like you’re in the woods. The character work is excellent, and focuses on older protagonists, which is always a treat. The romance is well-constructed and the second book is completely optional, taking place almost as a side-quest for the main couple.
I wish there were so many more of these, but unfortunately there are only two. But damn, are they great! Highly recommend, Silver In The Wood and its sequel, Drowned Country!
The Singing Hills Cycle, by Nghi Vo
100 to 128 pages
non-binary and sapphic rep
series
The Singing Hills Cycle is a good one to recommend, because it’s very low-commitment. You can pick whichever one of the three books (there’s soon to be a fourth!!) draws your interest, you can start with that one, and then go from there. The series follows Chih, a wandering cleric, from the Wandering Hills Abbey, which is preoccupied with keeping records of the history of this China-inspired kingdom. Chih goes around the territory with his talking bird Almost Brilliant, collecting stories.
This series is beautiful! Every book contains in it a beautiful exploration of folklore, and bite-sized story that will always warm your heart. Chih is a wonderful character around which to revolve this story, and their commitment to keeping records and history flows off the page - which is hella important, let’s record our history, folks! The side characters that show up on a book-by-book basis are always the best, and their dialogue is always the best part.
I highly recommend listening to the audiobook - I did so for the last installment, Into The Riverlands, and it was amazing! Just a 2 hour listen, if that sells ya!
The Murderbot Diaries, starting with All Systems Red, by Martha Wells
144 to 256 pages
queer rep of all kinds! yay!
series
The Murderbot Diaries is for those of us looking for a bigger committment. The series currently has 7 books, one of which is a full-length novel. However, you can read the first book as a standalone and decide if you’d like to continue on following Murderbot’s adventures! Most of the books are 150 - 200 pages long, and so are a pretty quick read!
This is perfect if you enjoy a snarky narration style and a compelling protagonist who’s trying to figure out how they fit into the world. Murderbot, our main character and narrator, is a SecUnit, that is, a security android, that must accompany a scientific expedition to a distant planet, to keep the explorers safe. But Murderbot has hacked its security mode, and enjoys watching TV shows and chilling by itself. But when the mission starts to go wrong, it might need to perk up and start - oh, no! - interacting with the humans.
Although I haven’t read the whole series yet, - I’m waiting for the mood to come over me, okay! - I have the first three books under my belt, and I’m so excited to continue. Murderbot has this spark and this snark which is just so entertaining to read, and so this book will have you laughing and rooting for it as it tries to figure out how to fit in in human society. Such a compelling character, and I’m happy there’s a lot of content out there for me to consume.
The Emperor’s Soul, by Brandon Sanderson
192 pages
no gay rep :(
standalone
The Emperor’s Soul is a part of Mr. Sanderson’s Elantris universe, but can be read as a standalone without knowing anything else about this world. It’s a bit of a different rec - Mr. Sanderson’s writing style is - and I mean this in the politest way possible - dry as fuck, and definitely not for everyone. But there’s something here I think is worth your time.
The magic system here is so unique and so fascinating. The Emperor’s Soul follows Shai, a Forger, who can copy objects flawlessly by re-writing their history. But, suddenly, she’s enlisted to do the impossible - Forge the Emperor.
I would give this one a try, even if it’s not like all the others one I recommended. It’s a good read, and Mr. Sanderson is, like it or not, a classic fantasy writer that’s a must-read for most fantasy fans. And, for me, this and then Mistborn were perfect stepping in points for his fiction.
I have so many of these, guys. Like, literally, so many. So, let me know if you want more of these - I’ll write up another post! And if you’d more specific recs, feel free to drop an ask :)
Also, check out my SFF books with queer-normal worlds list, if you’re looking for more gay stuff!
Magán vs állami
Sok évnyi hallgatás után (az elvétett sci-fi irodalom hozzászólások kivételével) végre van egy jó személyes témám/kérdésem a tumblr tapasztalt népéhez. Hallgatásommal összefüggő csekély követőszámom miatt nem reménykedem túlzottan széleskrű diskuruzsra, de szerencsére a kevés követő között @ko1azer0 is megtalálható így ő talán katalizátora lehet a témának.
A háttérsztori annyi, hogy 7 éve volt egy remek vakbeles kalandom ami kétszeri félrediagnosztizálásnak köszönhetően (respect Honvéd SBO) elég súlyos állapotban került sebész elé, így a műtétet követő egy hét intenzíven pihenést követően volt még egy közben keletkezett tályog eltávolítását célzó műtét is, majd mindezek következtében a műtét helyén kialakult köldöksérv megszerelésére egy éven belül egy újabb műtét. Azóta az utóbbi pár évben időszakosan előfordulnak kellemetlen bélpanaszaim, egy napig tartó hullámokban érkező feszítő érzés gyomor magasságában, néha alhasban, ide oda kisugározva. Többször voltam hasi ultrahangon amik nem mutattak ki semmit, gasztroenterológussal arra jutottunk, hogy valószínűleg összenövések keletkezhettek a műtétek miatt, de a komolyabb utánajárás megkezdése előtt pont beütött a járvány, így halasztódott a dolog. Most vettem fel a fonalat egy újabb kellemetlen epizód után, és sebész/gasztroenterológus megállapította, hogy a sérvem kiújult, van kisebb (3cm) és nagyobb (10cm) méretű is és erre mindenképp sebészeti megoldás szükséges. Nem volt túl megnyugtató, hogy bár úgy fogalmazott, ez nem azonnali veszélyes állapot, de ha egy ilyen kellemetlen epizódnál hányás, hasmenés is előfordulna, takarodjak azonnal sürgősségire, mert sanszos, hogy kizáródás történt.
Ennyi bevezető után itt jön a lényegi kérdés rész. Első gondolatom az volt, hogy visszamegyek oda ahol előzőleg is műtöttek (Irgalmasrendi), de a gasztrós doki azt mondta, hogy most már az a világ van, hogy mehetek a területikeg illetékes kórházba vagy magánba, nincs kórincálás. A mai napon ezért behaladtam a területileg illetékes (Bajcsy) kórház rendelőjébe majd ambulanciájára, ahol összesen laza 3 óra várakozás során meghalgathattam a magyar EÜ elnyűhetetlen poénját: idénre már nincs időpont, a jövő évi előjegyzés még nem nyílt meg, tippre ha talán 2-3 hét múlva megnyílik (nem tudta megmondani a vizsgáló doki mikor) akkor február/március magasságára talán be tudnak ütemezni, szóval majd kitartóan telefonájak. Miközben arra gondoltam, hogy a havi majdnem 400k TB járulék amit befizetek az utolsó fillérig jó helyre megy, hogy ilyen messzire juttatott az ügyintézésben a következő lehetőségeket mérlegeltem:
Várok akkor szépen a soromra.
Csak megkeresem az Irgalmasrendit, mert a 2 doki akivel ma kontaktba kerültem nem volt azért annyira magabiztos abban, hogy csak a körzeti kórházba mehetek. Persze ha oda is mehetnék az nem jelenti azt, hogy ott nem ugyanígy fél évre van időpont.
Elmegyek magánba megszereltetni a dolgot.
Kijátszom a jokert és a várakozás 5 hónapjában valamikor kizáródott béllel külső sávon előzöm a sort sürgősségileg.
Az utolsó lehetőséget kihagynám, így igazából a kérdés az lenne, hogy van-e bárkinek tapasztalata ilyen nagyobb hasi műtétet csinálnak-e (jól) megánkórházakban és ha igen hol? A félelmem ezzel kapcsolatban azon túl, hogy egy magánkórházban kissé kopottasabb is lehet ilyen téren a tapasztalat, révén hogy állami dokik szerintem 10x ennyi műtétet csinálnak havonta fejenként, az hogy nem is igen vállalnának el, mert maga a sérv sem egységnyi komplexitású és ráadásul ha már műtétbe kezdünk akkor azokat az összenövéseket is jó lenne megnézni és elcsippentgetni egy nekifutásból.
Szóval tapasztalat/javaslat bárki részéről, érdemes-e ebbe az irányba indulni? Vagy esetleg létezik valami mindjárt megdöglöknél kevésbé kockázatos loophole az államiban előre kerülésben?
10 books!! :•)
ty 4 the tag @otrtbs (+ @serethereal i'm just doing it on this blog) <3 here r 10 books 2 get 2 know me
1. a history of glitter and blood, by hannah moskowitz
favorite book of. all time probably. first read this when i was like 16 i think and since then i've reread it about once a year. keep waiting for it to like...hit me less hard but every time i read it i am still v much moved in the same sort of way that i was the first time!!
2. the last unicorn, by peter s. beagle
feel like this story is like. integral 2 me as a person. first encountered it in the form of the 1982 movie as a child + then discovered it was a book in high school. there are differences between the two of course but the central themes are the same + i do think the ending like. permanently altered my brain as a child such that it has shaped my worldview ever since
3. the archive of alternate endings, by lindsey drager
newest addition 2 the list!! just read this book like a month ago and it was so good that it now has a place of honor on my favorites list <3 made me full-body sob but is like. so exactly perfect for me as a book that it felt like it was written 4 me
4. animorphs, by k.a. applegate
surprisingly not a childhood series 4 me bc i watched one episode of the tv show they made in the 90s + it scared me so much that i never touched the books. however i read the entire series in college and. it is now one of my favorite works of literature ever.
5. gormenghast, by mervyn peake
this book means a lot 2 me personally bc it's like. tied 2 my dad 4 me <3 he's a big reader but our tastes only have a small overlap, so it's not super often that we'll both love the same book. but when i was in high school i was looking for something 2 read + he pulled gormenghast off his bookshelf + was like try this nobody's ever heard of it bc peake is not well-known but it's like. sprawling dark fantasy. + it ended up being one of the most beautiful + unique stories i have ever read <3
6. you too can have a body like mine, by alexandra kleeman
a favorite satire <3 love kleeman's writing style + the sort of weird suburbia-horror of this story
7. the man who laughs, by victor hugo
generally speaking i am not a big ~classics~ person however. my final year of hs this was the book i chose for my like big final english paper + it's like. the first book i really had 2 study on a deeper level + i loved all the twisting symbolism + the tragedy of it all
8. six of crows, by leigh bardugo
technically this is 2 books bc i'm thinking of the entire duology but. yeah <3 fave like. fun fantasy story 2 reread when i want a book that makes me feel like i'm watching a movie while i read it. also love love love all the characters <3
9. this is how you lose the time war, by max gladstone and amal el-mohtar
first time i read this book i felt like my brain was melting!!! so short but the exact kind of story that i love; sort of scrambled poetic writing style + weird dark fantasy + sci-fi elements
10. no future: queer theory and the death drive, by lee edelman
i actually. do not recommend this book as it is so dry + dense and an absolute slog 2 read. however it makes the list bc encountering lee edelman's writing abt reproductive futurity + the death drive was like. top 10 life-altering moments that fundamentally changed the way i think in college. so!!!
no-pressure tags: @steelycunt @dykefever @pomegranate-pill @suspendedinbush @mayescapade :•)
#book recs#tag game <3#obviously i am a. big fantasy person as is evident from this list lol#i think it will simply always be my favorite genre !! apologies 4 the lack of genre diversity on this list tho lol#also mutuals. if anyone wants 2 exchange storygraphs <3#currently i am only following my beloved ridi aka tumblr user steelycunt + i think it would be fun 2 see what ur all reading!!
Top 7 Comfort Films
I almost forgot about this. 🙈 Thank you for tagging me, @dandysnob and @marimayscarlett. 🖤
Well, wasn't expecting this to be so hard! I think my mind is always more programmed for TV Shows. But here we go.
Batman Begins (2005)
I love the Nolan trilogy, but Batman Begins has a special place in my heart (even if I only watched it in 2012, when TDKR came out). I watched it so many times (also, because, a few years back, I made some gifs and edits from it), I think I might know all the dialogues by heart. This has no particular order, but I think this one might be my #1 comfort film, now that I think about it... The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! (2012)
It brings me lovely memories with my nephew, when he was little.
Gremlins (1984)
Although I haven't seen it in many years, I loved Gizmo so much when I was a kid! And I had a soft spot for the bad guy with the white mohawk too. The Land Before Time, or as I've known it all my life "Em Busca do Vale Encantado" (1988)
I used to rent it at my local video store (still have it in VHS, even if we weren't allowed to record the tapes 🙊) and it was dubbed in Brazilian Portuguese, as many things back in the late 80's/early 90's, for some reason (o "Petrúcio" era o meu personagem favorito e aquele diálogo "Eu voei?"/"Não vocês caiu", juntamente com a parte dramática em que ele lhes diz "Estão indo embora sem o Petrúcio", ficaram-me até hoje). So thank you Näd, for reminding me of this one. 😊.
The Star Wars saga (1977 - 2019) (let's pretend they're all one)
It's just amazing sci-fi and I grew up on these, loving on them with my brother. So, in a way, it feels like home.
Inside Out (2015)
This was so fulfilling to watch back then, I can't really explain it. I'm not sure if it still hits the same way now.
Joker (2019)
Honestly, I had no idea what to put last, so I went with the last film I watched that gave me the feeling of being closest to perfection.
Sending this your way: @ohdeararuninmystocking, @maliciousdelice, @lexxxie-kun, @lacedwithkace, @hildegarda-till, @reiinraus, @naomullen, @grotesque-hallucinations, @franwikema, @namelessrammgirl, @in--my--tears, @shayofalltrades (I went a bit crazy on the tags here 😅 but you know the drill, answer only if you fell like it, of course, and sorry if I tagged anyone who already done this)
#this was really hard!#tag game thingy#(oh and the gif is mine in case anyone thinks I'm stealing stuff 😜)
20 questions of fic writers
Thanks for the tag @creativenicocorner!
Tagging: @dreamcrow @renee561 @megan0013 @ihateblocks I know it's NaNoWriMo so feel to ignore this one this busy season, but likewise if you're not tagged and wished to join in, feel free to do so. 🤔 I feel like I'm forgetting several people as it is.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
20 (and 1 draft)
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
710,674 so far (it should be 717,602 once the draft is published)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Tales of Arcadia, Dungeons and Dragons TTRPG, and this other one I won't share because I haven't finished the goddamn draft for yet and as such haven't published.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Under the Wave
Primordial Awakenings
Whispers Within
Honey and Lemon
Primordial Awakenings - Deleted Scenes
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, always, and I try to give out as much as the commenter puts in. So an emoji gets an emoji, a paragraph gets a paragraph, a short essay gets an essay, etc. I do this because I think it's nice balanced response policy and I don't want to overwhelm readers who sent a short sentence of approval with a wall of text over how I think they're great (even though they are, in fact, quite great.)
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
🤔Under the Sun: The White Rabbit.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Whispers Within.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not directly, certainly not in the comments of a fic. I know my ships and blorbos are not popular with everyone, but honestly this is how it's always been. I typically like writing the weirdos and cardboard cutout characters who get/got treated dirty in canon.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes I do now. I put it off for a long time because I wasn't confident writing it enough to share it publicly, but I started publishing that kind of thing last year in attempt to Get Good.
It's essentially a personal exercise routine, highly recommend this to anyone struggling with a particular element of writing. Obviously it doesn't have to be even remotely spicy, I know not everyone is comfortable writing that kind of thing and I certainly expect anyone to read mine. It's just I was struggling with interpersonal physical interactions, choreography if you will, and the easiest way to practice these was either smut or combat scenes, and combat scenes seemed kind of a massive downer.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
To the best of my knowledge, I have never in my life written a crossover, nor do I currently have any wish to. The absolute closest has gotta be including a lot of OCs to fill roles that aren't quite filled in the canon cast, which as we all know is not quite the same. Full respect to our troops in the crossover trenches, I just don't think I have a brain that works like that.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I've definitely had art stolen (rip that one cute gnome PC I did for a friend), but never a fic... to my knowledge.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No but I've had my grammar and spelling corrected once or twice when I attempted a language I am not fluent in and made mistakes. (I owe you my life.)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I have co-written before, back in the day, and I'm not taking about rp forums but the dark fantasy/sci-fi writing project I shared as a teen with my brother and friend at the time. For fic specifically I've only beta'd.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
As a polyamorous multishipper this is a homophobic question. There's room on my top shelf for as many I want. 🤔 Many are Morticia and Gomez Addams shaped, or whatever the fuck was happening in The Road to El Dorado shaped, one has to admit.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Eugh probably The Homework Squad (a ToA fic with multiple PoV about Strickler's time as a teacher before he left that position.) Maybe I'll get to it one day, but I have so many other fics I'd much rather be working on now.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I've been told that I am very good at character voices and dialogue, and that I have the ability to control the tension of any given scene with pinpoint accuracy and twist the mood like a knife in the reader's heart without it seeming unnatural. This might be my dark fantasy background coming to the surface, ngl.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
These are such things that gets mentioned less in feedback because it would be a dick mood unprompted, but speaking as someone with no beta beyond myself and an ereader, I know that sometimes my prose can be stiff and awkward, and my sentences err towards the unwieldy to the point that reading aloud can be difficult.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Sometimes different languages can be important to the plot and characterisation, and in these cases I do write dialogue in other languages but also include translation RIGHT THERE for the readers instead of clumped down at bottom notes of the chapter.
Otherwise I will include a helpful little note in the dialogue tag to indicate if the speaker has switched languages.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Tales of Arcadia.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
It's probably Primordial Awakenings, but again I still have a soft spot for Whispers Within, and most if not all of my fics really. I pour a lot of myself into my fics, so they represent not just the fic themselves, but the particular time in my life when I was writing them.
Rules: Share snippets of your work containing each of the words the previous poster selected for you (optional addition: if you can't find the words in your WIPs, or you simply don't have any WIPs, you can just write a sentence around the word).
Thank you so much for the tag @lidensword I loved your short story! Really good way to use the words.
I was given mysterious, stone, sea, glad, I'm going to put the original thing as I have written and then an aproximated translation. My wips are a mess too lol (The first two are from the same wip curiously, lmao but it doesn’t have a title yet, the third is from a sci-fi and the fourth one I have mentioned it some time, is from “When the cat’s gone”)
The words I'm given are: forest, light, miscellanious and crime
Mysterious= Misterioso
"La primera estatua apareció en el parque de los patos. Una figura marmórea de una mujer sentada en la hierba, llevándose la mano a la frente como si estuviera evitando que el sol de la tarde le diera en los ojos. Entusiastas del arte se reunieron para ir a verla, compartiendo teorías sobre quién podría ser el misterioso artista de una obra tan elaborada. La segunda y tercera estatua se descubrieron al día siguiente"
"The first statue appeared near the Duck Pond Park, A marble figure of a woman sitting on the grass, she had her hand by her forehead, as if attempting to avoid the afternoon sun getting in her eyes. Art enthusiasts got together to admire her, sharing theories about who the mysterious artists might have created such an elaborate piece. The second and third statue were discovered the next day"
Stone=piedra
-Corte el rollo, Mallard-interrumpió la detective- ¿Por qué está volviendo a convertir a la gente en piedra?
_¿Moi?_ sonrió el mafioso, enseñando sus afilados dientes_ ¿Qué le hace pensar que he sido yo?
_¿Acaso cree que alguien ha olvidado las semanas que tuvo al Cuentacuentos convertido en roca en medio de su estanque Koi?
_¡Ah! ¿Eso? Uno roquifica a su peor enemigo hace siete años y ya la fama perdura pero, no me negará que era una estatua preciosa, esos suaves rasgos faciales, la figura esbelta, el...
_Por favor, solo responda a la pregunta
"Cut the crap, Mallard" The detective interrumpted, "Why are you turning people into stone again?
"Moi?" the kingpin smiled showing his sharp teeth "What makes you think it was me?"
"Do you truly believe someone has forgotten those weeks you had the Storyteller as your Koi Pond centre piece?
"Ah! That? One rockifies his worst enemy once in 7 years and the fame lasts. But you won't deny me he was a handsome statue, those chiseled features, his slender frame...
"Please, just answer the question"
Sea= Mar
El 27 de febrero del año 2150 partiría del Puerto Selenita Alef la fragata universal SS Mariposa con misión de observar e informar una región casi inexplorada del espacio liminal entre el sistema Centauri y Oort, también conocido como Mar de Éter.
Year 2150, February 27, the Space Frigate known as SS Butterfly would part from Aleph Moonbase in a mission to observe and inform about an uncharted region of the liminal space between the Oort Cloud and the Centauri System, also known as the Ether Sea.
Glad= agradecido
_¡Cuando te enterarás que te está tratando como un títere! _escupió su superiora a la cara sanguinolenta de Wilbur _ ¡No eres más que un simple peón en su juego por derrotarnos!¡Date cuenta, estúpido traidor! ¡No va a venir a salvarte!
A duras penas, levantó la cabeza para poderla mirarla a través de los cristales destrozados de sus gafas y dijo en tono frío como el hielo
_Soy perfectamente consciente que su afecto hacia mí solo era una mentira, nunca que le he caído bien a nadie. Pero estoy agradecido que al menos trato de utilizarme usando amabilidad, que es mucho más de lo que jamás recibiré de vosotros.
When are you going to understand that he's using you like a puppet! "The commander spitted to Wilbur's bleeding face" You are just a pawn in his game to defeat us! Open you eyes, stupid traitor! He's not coming to save you!
Somehow, he managed to lift his head enough to make eye contact through his shattered glasses and said with tone as cold as ice:
"I´m already aware that his affections were a lie, nobody ever has truly liked me. But I am glad that he tried to win me over with kindness , and that's more that I am ever going to get from you.
#i got super carried away sorry#tag game#my writing#no you don’t notice a pattern#when the cat’s gone#my ocs
