...I just pulled a t shirt out of my drawer and a brown object tumbled out onto the carpet. I picked it up. It was a snail.
A juvenile Giant African Land Snail, not an albino, just a standard one with a brown shell and a grey body.
...Her name is Dora. I raised her from a day old hatchling. I cried when I got back from a week long holiday, three weeks ago, and she was gone.
I think she's still alive.
Holy fucking shit.

As You Wish
As You Wish
Jungkook x Reader
Author: Admin Mo
Genre: Fantasy!AU Fluffy fluff with a splash of angst for good measure.
Word Count: Somewhere around like 3k?
Tumblr media
Dust. Dust everywhere. So much of it that every artifact you moved from the seemingly ancient attic of the Magus College Library turned up a flurry of the gray flakes, causing you to hack up a lung.
Jesus, you felt awful. And all for some extra credit.
It wasn’t like there wasn’t cool stuff up here. There was. Really cool stuff. But your terrible dust allergies were preventing you from enjoying it fully.
“Find it yet?” Your partner on the assignment, a warlock named Yoongi, was rummaging through some boxes in an attempt to find the tapes you had been sent up here to retrieve for your Magic History professor. For some reason, he was sure they were up here, but all you had found was a wicked cough and a lantern from SmallWorld that Yoongi had nearly crushed.
“Nope.” You wiped some of the grime off of your hands, palms rubbing against the fabric of your jeans.
“Alright. Well. I’m going to go grab coffee. Do you want me to get one for you?”
“Yes please.”
“I’ll be back in a few. Text me if you find it before I get back.”
“Will do.” You promised. The door closed behind him with a click. You pushed another box out of the way after searching through it and pulled another to the stool you were perched on. This one had some interesting contents; some old records, a few faded leather books, and some...metal thingy.
You pulled the last of the items out of the box to examine it closer. The knick-knack was gold with purple and pink gems, a long spout that reminded you of a teapot and a lid over the top of it. You took the lid off, not really knowing what to expect, but inside...there was nothing.
Hmm...It sort of looked like something out of those mortal movies about things the humans thought were make-believe. What was it called again? Aladdin? Maybe.
On the side of the trinket were some words. Dust was covering part of the mysterious inscription, but the part you could read said: “The Finder of this Lamp…………….hes, no more, no less.”
Maybe if you just rubbed the dust off…
As soon as your skin brushed against the cold metal, a cloud of purple-ish smoke came billowing out of the end of the lamp and you dropped it in shock, the golden object clattering against the floorboards. From the smoke emerged a figure. Tall. Dark hair. He smirked at the look on your face. The wide eyes and surprise that usually accompanied his emergence from the lamp that had held him captive for the past five hundred or so years.
“Who are- where did you-”
“I thought a smart witch like you would know a genie when she saw one.” The boy smirked, his brown eyes glinting with mischief. He offered a small bow out of habit. “Your wish is my command, mistress.”
“A genie…” You spoke softly. Of course. That explained his apparel, only a purple vest covering his muscled body, his chest almost fully exposed. Golden billowy pants hung loose around his hips, and curved golden shoes surrounded his feet. Around his wrists were thick gold cuffs, and sparkling in his ears were golden hoops.
“You get three wishes, as per the contract on the lamp. No more, no less.”
“Anything?” You asked.
“Well, almost anything.” The genie squinted as though he was trying to remember the rules his magic was forced to abide by. You figured it must have been a while since someone had let him out. “You...can’t force someone to love you. You can’t bring back the dead. You can’t wish for more wishes, and before you ask, no you cannot wish for more genies either. It’s cheating.”
“Okay, so I make three wishes and then what happens?”
“I go back into the lamp until the next person finds it.” The genie looked sad at this, but he hid it well. That was the pattern, after all. Three wishes and then back into his tiny prison.
“What if I find it again?” You asked, raising an eyebrow.
“You won’t. That’s how my magic works. You’ll forget you ever met me like everyone else who gets their wishes granted.” His casual demeanor began to fade as the weight of the words he had spoken finally hit him. You were no different than every other mortal that stumbled on the lamp and the power it held. Soon enough, you would be out of his life as quickly as you had entered it.
This curse was terrible, but it was his burden to carry. And all for a stolen kiss.
“Oh. Okay. I guess...I guess I just won’t use any of them, then.”
For the first time in five centuries, Jungkook was shocked into silence. You weren’t the first to find him, but you were certainly the first one to say that.
“What?”
“If I never use my wishes, then you never have to go back in the lamp, right?”
“Right…”
“Okay, so I won’t use my wishes.” You stated again.
He stood there, brown eyes wide as you sat down and got back to sorting through the boxes and boxes of clutter that had to be searched yet.
“I...but why would you…”
“I already have magic. I can get pretty much whatever I want as is. But you...don’t seem to like it in there very much.”
“Oh.”
Jungkook appreciated the gesture. He did, very much. But somewhere deep in his chest, he could feel that this wouldn’t last. Eventually, you would need something your magic couldn’t give you. You would get desperate. You would break your word. You would leave him like everyone else.
“They were out of the muffins you like so I just got you-” Yoongi came back up to the attic, took one look at the genie standing there, squinting with what someone might mistake as recognition. He felt odd. Like he had seen him somewhere before, but not in this life. Hmm... The feeling left and he shook it off. “I heard rumors about the genie in the attic. I guess they were true then.”
That was all he said before handing you your coffee and muffin and sitting down to get back to work.
“Wow, that’s it?”
“We go to a school for magical creatures. My roommate is a merman and yesterday a fairy helped me make a Leprechaun 5’10” tall. So. Take that as you will.” Yoongi sipped on his coffee, looking up at the genie. “You may as well help, you know.”
“Alright.” Jungkook shrugged and sat down next to you. “What are we looking for?”
***
After a long while searching through the attic, you finally found the tapes and took them to your professor. Jungkook’s lamp was tucked under one of your arms, and when you bid Yoongi goodnight, Jungkook looked at you for some clue about what he was supposed to do.
“There’s an extra bed in my room. And maybe I can summon you a shirt or something.” You told him, smirking as you turned the doorknob of your dorm. The room was a mess, but at the moment, you had no roommate to worry about. Just you and your cat. And now, a genie.
“You should hide the lamp.”
“I already have the perfect place.” You pulled open the top drawer of your dresser, moved around some bras, and tucked it inside, covering the lamp with your unmentionables.
“That’s not what I meant.”
“It’s already protected with blood magic.” You batted a hand at him and turned to the terrarium that held your bearded lizard, feeding him his dinner. “I can move it later if it makes you uncomfortable.”
“No, it’s...fine.” Jungkook was uncomfortable. You could tell. It was kind of funny, though.
“Here.” You flicked your hand and a t-shirt appeared in his hands. He held it up, looking over the plain white fabric. You motioned to his muscled chest. “So you can cover up all of that.”
“Why? Does it make you uncomfortable?” He smirked, shrugging off the purple vest and pulling on the shirt instead.
“I might be able to scare up some jeans and Tims too, if you want. Or, well, some pajama pants now and jeans for tomorrow.” You ignored his comment and the slight falter in your voice. He was indeed handsome. You couldn’t deny that much. But he was also a trickster. You could feel it.
“Oh. Sure.” He nodded. You waved your hand with a little flourish and more clothes appeared in his arms. Jeans, Timberlands, some boxers, and plaid pajama pants.
“There’s a bathroom through that door. You can get changed in there.”
He walked into the bathroom and emerged a few minutes later holding his old clothes. Now what? You were sitting beneath the blankets of one bed, a black cat curled up at your side as you got ready to sleep.
“The other bed is yours. I don’t know if genies actually need sleep or-”
“Thank you.” Jungkook didn’t hesitate to get beneath the covers and lay down. His. The bed, the clothes, they were his. He had belongings now. Things he owned. Things that had been given to him.
It had been such a long time since he had something to call his own.
“Goodnight.” You really hoped this would get less awkward as he spent more time with you. But all in all, maybe sharing your room with a genie wouldn’t be so bad after all. It would certainly be less lonely than having the room all to yourself.
“Wait.” Jungkook said just before you flicked off the light. “What’s your name?”
“(Y/N). Yours?”
“Jungkook.”
“Nice to meet you, Jungkook.” You chuckled, sending the room into darkness and turning over on your side.
“(Y/N)...” Jungkook whispered to himself, committing it to memory. The girl who had, at least for now, set him free.
***
“Noona, noona, noona, noona, noona-” Three weeks passed and the awkwardness with it. Jungkook had friends now, namely, a fairy, a leprechaun, and an elf, that he hung out with a lot. But he still made it a priority to spend time with you too, his roommate, and decidedly, his best friend.
“What do you want?”
“We’re going out for Fro-Yo. Do you want to come with us?” Jungkook’s brown eyes pleaded for you to join them. He liked treating you, you noticed. Any time he got the chance, he would. “It’s on me.”
“You need to stop buying me things.” You rolled your eyes and typed a few more lines of your paper.
“Come onnnn,” Jungkook stood behind your chair and rested his hands on your shoulders, shaking you gently. “Let me take care of youuuuu.”
“You don’t need to take care of me. I already told you. You don’t owe me anything for being a half-decent person.”
“You didn’t have to let me stay in your room. You didn’t have to help me enroll in classes. You didn’t have to summon clothes-”
“Yes I did. I wasn’t letting you run around with your abs out all the time.”
He laughed the laugh you had grown to love. “Please. You need to take a break anyway.”
“Okay, okay, fine…” You logged off of your laptop and grabbed your coat. “Because you’re twisting my arm.”
You walked with Jungkook down to the courtyard where your friends were waiting. Yoongi was there too, looking rather tired. You didn’t know why he wasn’t up in his room sleeping, honestly. Maybe one of the others had convinced him to come.
“Yaaaaaay she came!” Jimin cheered.
“Yay. Let’s go get yogurt.” Yoongi stood from his spot and led the pack of you to the Fro-Yo place up the street. Hoseok, your leprechaun friend, was...taller than usual. He had been lately, as Magus had finally received a shipping of growth for the smaller students in attendance at the magical school.
Jungkook slipped his hand into yours, trying to be casual about it, despite the fact he had never done it before. You shouldn’t have been surprised. He was getting touchier these days. When you looked to him for some sort of explanation, instead of pulling away from you, he just shrugged.
“What? Does it make you uncomfortable?” He smirked.
You nudged him and gripped his hand tighter. “Hush.”
“Or is embarrassed a better word?”
You were seriously considering smacking the bunny grin right off of his face. God, did he really have to be so handsome? It was seriously so hard to be just friends with him when he made you feel like this.
The Fro-Yo place was next to empty, so you all had your pick of the toppings. When you reached into your purse to try and pay for your own, Jungkook ran over and set his own on the scale.
“No no, I’ve got these two.” He told the cashier, paying for both of them. He nudged you gently, grinning with amusement. “Nice try, though.”
“Oh dang. You caught me.” You tried to ignore the butterflies fluttering through your stomach. “Thank you, Jungkook. Seriously. Thank you for everything.”
“I could buy you a million treats and still never be able to repay you for what you’ve given me.” He brushed the hair out of your face, looking at you with warmth in his brown gaze. “Let’s go sit down.”
The others were chattering amongst themselves, and the two of you joined in. You weren’t sure how the conversation got to where it did, but you really wished it hadn’t.
“I don’t even know. I just wi-” Your eyes went wide and you smacked your hands over your mouth before anyone at the table could blink. You were breathing deep breaths, trying to fight the tears that were threatening to spill from your eyes.
“Are you okay?” Jimin asked with concern, not really sure what had happened for you to react that way.
“I’m fine.” You nodded slowly, the color returning to your face. You couldn’t bring your gaze to Jungkook’s. Not after you had almost slipped up. So carelessly. It was an accident, yes, but it only took three to rid the handsome genie from not only your life, but your memories too. “I’m sorry…”
“It was an accident.” Jungkook spoke softly, but it was obvious he was thinking the same things you were. The two of you had come so far already. You were so close. And three sentences could shatter all of that. “You didn’t mean to. It’s okay.”
“What even happened?” an elf named Taehyung, one of Jungkook’s closest friends so far, a fellow trickster at heart, asked.
“She almost used one of her wishes.” Yoongi explained, scratching the back of his neck.
“Wait, you’re still tied to her?” Jimin looked between the two of you.
“Her wish is my command.” Jungkook nodded, taking your hand in his and playing with your little fingers even though you were still obviously bothered and very upset. “But she hasn’t used any.”
“And I’m not going to, if I can help it.” A tear slipped down your cheek and you stood up from the table, taking your hand out of Jungkook’s. “I’m sorry, I-”
“(Y/N), wait!” Jungkook followed you out the door of the Fro-Yo place, the bell jingling above the door as you went outside. Tears were streaming down your cheeks now, and it made his heart break to see you like this.
“I’m so sorry.” You apologized, your face red from crying. Jungkook shook his head and pulled you into his chest.
“Stop apologizing.” He murmured, resting his head on top of yours. “You didn’t do anything wrong. It’s not your fault and you know it.”
“I…” You choked on sobs, pulling him as close as you could manage to. His arms wrapped around you tightly, one hand rubbing up and down reassuringly. “I can’t lose you.”
“I’m not going anywhere.” He closed his eyes and exhaled a long sigh. “I promise.”
***
A few more weeks passed and the two of you tried to continue without talking about what had happened or what that could have meant. But you were both thinking about it. Constantly. All the time. It haunted your thoughts during the day and plagued your dreams at night. The thought of slipping up and losing him because of it. Not only that, but forgetting him altogether. It was scary. No, terrifying.
So you didn’t talk about it. Until now.
“I want you to use your wishes.” Jungkook stated, shocking the hell out of you.
“You what?”
“I...I’m too attached. I’m too attached to you and the boys and...you all might forget me whenever I eventually go back into my lamp for the next person to find, but...I won’t forget any of you and I don’t know if I could live like that. Missing all of you for the next five-hundred years.”
“We...we can make it work, Jungkook. I’ll put duct tape over my mouth if I have to. I don’t care.”
“What kind of a life is that?” He shook his head. “No. I won’t do that to you. I don’t want you to be too afraid to speak. Not for me. Not for anyone.”
“I’m not going to use them.”
“You can have anything in the whole world. Three anythings. Pick something. Anything. Whatever you want and it’s yours.” He sat on your bed next to you.
“All I want is you…” You whispered, lip quivering. You promised yourself you wouldn’t cry again, but you couldn’t help it. Another broken promise.
“Can I...grant one wish for myself, then?” Jungkook asked. You looked at him in confusion until he started leaning in. You met him in the middle, pressing your lips against his. It was the softest, sweetest kiss you had ever shared with anybody. He was so careful with you. So gentle. And yet, it still felt like a goodbye.
Magic swirled between the two of you when you pulled apart. The blending of something ancient and something modern. Something that had been hidden away for so long and something that was just bursting to the surface. The thick golden bracelets on Jungkook’s wrists glinted, a reminder of the bond you shared. The bond that tied him to you. That obligated him to make you happy. And you wondered if it weren’t for them if he would still even care about you.
Was any of this real? Or was it just a mirage that would fade as soon as he returned to his lamp?
“I was cursed with a kiss, you know.” Jungkook spoke softly. He had never told you this story before. “I fell in love with a princess and her father didn’t like that very much. So he laced the curse in her lipstick and when she kissed me...she also cursed me to that lamp forever. I...haven’t kissed anyone since.”
“Was it worth the wait?”
He nodded, laying back in your bed. He pulled you down with him and held you, hands gently stroking your hair and back. “But I do want you to use your wishes. Soon, okay?”
“Okay…”
***
“Jungkook.” You walked into your shared dorm room a few days later, after thinking over the whole thing all day every day. “I know how I want to use my wishes.”
“O-okay.” He nodded, swallowing thickly. There was a lump in his throat. He knew this day would come, but he really didn’t expect it to be this soon, even if he had given you a push that he had regretted since the moment he did it. What you had was good, even if it was temporary. Maybe he shouldn’t have been so quick to wish it away. But it was too late to stop you now. “I’m...I’m ready when you are.”
You took a deep breath, collecting your words carefully. You had to be careful. Genie magic was tricky. Very literal. It was intended to make you waste wishes undoing other wishes. But you wouldn’t screw this up. You felt it.
“I wish...that no matter what happens, everyone will remember you and you will remember all of them.” you stated. You felt a pulse of magic emit from Jungkook’s chest.
He looked at you with tears welling in his brown eyes. “What are you doing?”
“I wish…” You ignored the concern on his face. The strong emotions that were swirling around your heart, warm and thick and real. “That no one else will fall under the curse of the genie.”
“(Y/N)...”
“I wish to free you, forevermore, from your curse.” When your final words rang out, a pulse of gold and purple magic rushed out of him. The thick golden bands around his wrists shattered to pieces and disintegrated, gone as though they had never been there to begin with.
Jungkook’s heart was racing. He stared at the smooth skin of his wrists. He hadn’t seen them in so long. With shaking hands, he rubbed over them in disbelief. It had been that simple all along? All someone had to do was wish him free?
In those moments, some of his old traits began to return. An inferno set ablaze in his irises, the brown returning to their original orange hue, slits like a dragon’s eye reemerging ad tints of gold dancing around in the rich fiery color. Orange scales appeared in patches on his neck, arms, and legs, and sharp canines poked through his row of perfect teeth.
“You wasted all of your wishes on me?” He spoke softly, still not fully sure this was anything but an amazing dream.
“I didn’t waste anything.” You shook your head, waiting for some reaction from the former genie now dragonfolk standing in front of you. “You’re all that I want. You’re all that I’ve ever wanted.”
Jungkook couldn’t contain himself any longer. He stepped forward and captured your lips in his, kissing you deeply. He had been holding back the last time he kissed you because he knew if he ever kissed you, really kissed you, he would never be the same if you forgot him.
Kissing you was pure magic, and maybe it was because you were a witch, or maybe it was because you were just you, but he couldn’t get enough of the feeling, running his long fingers through your hair and pulling your waist closer to him.
“I love you.” He leaned his forehead against yours, breathing heavily as he pulled away. Tears threatened to spill from his mysterious eyes and he chuckled in disbelief and joy and everything else. “Is it too soon to say that?”
“I love you too.” You pulled him in for another kiss. This one shorter, softer, and somehow more meaningful. You reached up to wipe away his tears and he shivered under your careful fingers. “I love you so much.”
“Do you want to go burn my genie clothes and toss my lamp into the lake?” He grinned, fire glinting in his eyes.
“I am one step ahead of you.” You pulled the lamp out of your underwear drawer and handed it to him.
“I never want to see this stupid thing again.” He glared at the golden hunk of junk that had held him captive for so long. His expression softened suddenly. “...But if there was one good thing that came out of all of that...it was you.”
“Quit being cheesy. We have a vest to burn.” You gave him a playful shove and kissed his cheek.
Jungkook slung one of his muscular arms around your shoulders and kissed your cheek in return, grinning the grin that still somehow resembled a bunny’s. “As you wish, princess.”
