incel Eisenhorn vs chad cain
#Gregor Eisenhorn#ciaphas cain#commissar cain#inquisitor Eisenhorn#warhammer#warhammer 40k#disclaimer I have not even finished the first Eisenhorn novel but the tired trope of#‘detective meets abused working girl & takes her under this wing’ is exhausting and given the power dynamics and her status as a blank#it’s even worse#i hope it gets less cringe as the novel goes on

Haven't been painting a lot this last week. However, I have been printing and converting thes Grey Knight reinforcements for my game next week. Made a repulsor into an executioner by adding a lasgun on the turret as well as a double barrel psycannon. Don't thinkit's legal, but it follows the rule of cool.

SPOILERS!!! (Maybe. My brain is a bit mush after reading this book)
The perfect quote to summarize Eisenhorn is "the road to Hell is laid with good intentions".
And that's exactly how this man's journey throughout the omnibus played out because, wow, did he delude himself.
Einsenhorn: The Omnibus. It was long. It was exciting and many other words that mean thrilling. It also gave me a lot of inspiration, so kudos for that.
I should've taken notes because I can barely remember events in the book and I just finished it.
Anyway, Eisenhorn is arrogant. He's a bit of a hothead and reckless. And he's has tunnel vision whenever he's on a mission at times. And he doesn't listen to the signs or clues telling him shit is about to go down. One example, the astropath Ungish told him he would cause her death, and he didn't listen. That tendancy to not listen also tended to get a majority of his team killed throughout the book. And get his ass beat to hell and back a majority of the time too.
He's confident, I'll give him that. But he also had a lot of faith in an organization that wouldn't hesitate to cut him or any inquisitor down if they showed an inch of heresy. Case in point in Malleus, when he wouldn't give up on the any of his inquisitor allies showing up at that church.
And don't get me started on Glossia. How many times did that book say that Glossia couldn't be cracked by outsiders. And what happened? It was cracked by Pontius Glaw and his cult in Hereticus.
Saying it now. I couldn't stand a majority of the Inqusitors. Especially Heldane. Why? Because they are hypocritical. They kill as much as chaos does. And no matter how much they try to sugarcoat it as doing the "Emperor's work", they're basically just adding fuel to the fire. Nobody is pure. Nobody is fully good. Especially Heldane. Surgery to become a horse? Really, dude? What was even the benefit of having his face like that?
Insiquisors are humans. Humans have flaws. There's always going to be some sort of chaos taint within them. Even if they try to ignore it. Which is why, I sighed whenever Eisenhorn denied being a heretic. I mean, he's not full on, but he's smack dab an anti-hero at that point.
To be honest, I didnt expect to like Cherubael as much as I did. I liked the way he, one-sided might I add, decided that he and Eisenhorn were now partners in crime. I also like the way he got angry in "Malleus" over the fact that the inquisitor he thought was Eisenhorn wasn't him. I don't why I smiled at that scene, I truly don't.
It was interesting to see him in Hereticus just accept the fact that he was now bound to Eisenhorn.
Oh! Nayle and Medea. Props to them to being the longest surviving members of Eisenhorn's crew. They took some serious beatings and deathly close calls. Medea trying to go one on one with a battle titan..Midas would have a heart attack if he had been alive.
Fischig. He was a loyal and good guy. I did not expect him to rat Eisenhorn out like that in the end. Nor did I expect him to be very religious, so to speak. His death hit me heard because I thought he would last till the end.
Tobias. I love that guy. I wish they had a book about him because I need rogue trader inspiration badly. He was a breath of fresh air whenever he appeared in the book.
I kind of found it interesting that despite Alizebeth being a untouchable, nobody really was disturbed by her throughout the book. Sure it was mentioned in "Xenos", but the feeling of fear, disgust from other people kind of just faded in the background. As for Eisenhorn and her star crossed lover act, it wasn't a focal point and honestly was surprised when he mentioned he felt something for her. But again, he's human.
Lastly, we have Drusher. Man had balls to insult Eisenhorn to his face in "Magos". He was an interesting character and I wish he did go with Eisenhorn. I don't know, their personalities just seemed to kind of mesh well. But that's probably just my opinion.
All in all, I will probably take a break from omnibuses after this one. It was a inspiring read. Can see why Eisenhorn's so infamous. Will come back to it for references because the way Dan Abnett described the world made me see the images in my mind. And I wish I could write as good as that. The characters were all different and had, well, character to them. Don't know if I'll read Ravenor or Beta Bequin's books. We'll see in the future. Got my eye mostly on Price of Crows and Lords of Silence for my next Warhammer reads.
