Hey all!

Sorry for how quiet this account's been lately. We're getting back into the swing of things after finals and the holiday season, and with that comes some new announcements!

First of all: Livy has a Patreon now! You can see a bunch of Eidolon NCTG art, get pages a week early, etc as well as financially support the webcomic!!

Second: The game system this webcomic is based on, Eidolon: Become Your Best Self, has released its second edition! You can get a digital copy of the book here and check out the folks behind it on their Patreon :)

Dylan ‘Didi’ Kelly spent his adolescence in a secure psychiatric hospital after killing his father as a boy. Now a young man and recently transferred to a new hospital, his childhood friends and former co-inpatients soon find his new residence—and waste no time in breaking Didi out. However, they barely get to enjoy their newfound freedom for five minutes before they’re falling into a mysterious pool in the forest. They are taken on a journey through their dark pasts, discovering not only the truth about the cult they grew up in, but also the mystical significance of the pact they made to escape it, and what it means for the future—their own, and that of the world itself.

...Sooo I've been working on this graphic novel for the last year (although the characters have been in my head for way longer), and I'm finally ready to start sharing it online. It's a dark fantasy/horror story about trauma, healing, love, found family, witchcraft, cults, body horror, mystery, and a bunch of other stuff. Affirming Hypnosis

Who is really the master in this scenario? XD (Oops, I forgot to draw the summoning mark that appears on them when Caprii is there. I can't be bothered to add it now.)

I've been inspired lately by all the cute art that @hyenafu makes of their OCs from their webcomic Slightly Dammed with one of them as a big snake and this snake and elf have cute playful and oftentimes affirming and wholesome hypnosis and coiling and it's just so cute and sweet that I've been all over their art haha  So I really wanted to take inspiration and do something similar with my own elf and her eidolon Caprii! If you haven't met these two before, Taeryn is my D&D high elf summoner. She's 21 and formed an adventuring group with her friends to help people after she was kidnapped as a child, and would have been sold into some kind of awful trafficing if she hadn't awakened to strange powers through a series of 5 weird dreams, after which she gained the ability to summon this eidolon, Caprii the snake.  After Caprii appeared and basically tore apart the bad guys so the child could escape, the two have been living together ever since. And now Taeryn wants to help other people who are trapped and scared like she once was

Over the course of the campaign, Taeryn has become an incredibly gifted mage. But I always love how the relationship is between her and Caprii. Taeryn is supposed to be the master, but she goes giddy for her best friend's coils and hypnotic powers. Also, while Caprii is very standoffish and rude to most people, she ADORES Taeryn and will get very defensive over her. Taeryn however thinks of Caprii as her best friend and doesn't want her to get hurt.

So the two are a very cute pair, and spend most nights with Taeryn cuddled up in her big scaly friend's snuggly coils. (Sometimes a certain tiefling is invited into the hug too XD)

Here, we have Taeryn struggling to break herself out of the throes of intense work researching magic, or perhaps trying to find some way to best their next adversary. But after working herself to the point of exhaustion, maybe she needs a friend to force her to rest. Actually Venetia's player suggested that she probably asked Taeryn to stop and take a break first, but after Taeryn refused, Venetia gave Caprii a nudge to 'persuade' her to stop. I'm sure Venetia will join in the cuddle break time after not too much longer X3 She'll be willing, but maybe Caprii will give the tiefling some hypnotic therapy too~!

Disclaimer: every piece of fanfiction is a gift from an angel. I love it all, because no matter how cringe or silly it is, the alternative is that fic NOT existing and that is unacceptable to me. That goes for any art.

Okay salty little hater time: Who the fuck started saying "greenette" or "pinkette" to stand in as an indicator for a person with a certain hair color. It is the new "orbs" in fanfiction. I literally have backed out of a fic, walked around a bit, and then gone back in resigned. It's so funny and I actually think of it really fondly, because it's a symptom of fandom the same was all the old fic tropes back in the early 2000's were. But god it even hurt me to write out. Weird formatting and paragraphs breaks I can adjust to pretty easily.

THIS TAROT SERIES FROM KAYSON (@tangledinink) They picked all of the series perfectly for the cards, they didn't just half heartedly pick the aesthetics that fit, and every single one is absolutely GORGEOUS. The style fits in with the other art/fics perfectly while still having that special little background/detail flair that Kayson likes to use. Fantastic. ('Strength' for LSoW Yoshi was an inspired pick as well. Love it.)

MATCHING BEST IS THIS COMIC by @cool-chocolatebouquet A whole comic! On one of my fave parts of mine and @alicat54cwriting's crossover??? So funny and good.

☁️ ⇢ what made you choose your username?

My username was 'spectralsleuth' for a while because I had thoughts of making a webcomic series about a detective who is dead, and was brain rotted by Homestuck naming conventions. (Which in itself was a satire of early 2000's internet culture, only dramatized.) That never happened, but the name stuck for all my accounts because I'm too lazy to think of a new one.

'audioEidolon' was what I started with on discord forever ago, and I wasn't ever planning to talk to anyone on voice chat because I was shy. (Thus the 'audio eidolon' name.) But I made some really good friends playing DnD and we talk almost every day, and have done for almost seven years now. So I guess my internet nickname will forever be 'Audio' or 'Audi'.

🏜️ ⇢ what's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?

I love comments that pull out a line they specifically liked, or struck them. Maybe it's selfish, but I like seeing the specific things they liked because THAT'S the kind of comment that you think about while writing and forever after. (Despite how nice and easy as generalized comments are. I love all comments!) I even prefer comments that pull a specific line to say they didn't understand it, or noticed it was a little weird or out of place over generic ones, because it shows that they're invested and actually internalizing the writing. In this day and age of bots and AI, it's nice.

❄️ ⇢ what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?

MAN THIS IS A TOUGH ONE. Every time I think, wow I wish that fic existed, I generally write it myself! I really can't think of anything I've wanted that I haven't at least started to write myself.

Oh man I don't know if I even HAVE an unpopular opinion about a popular fandom character? My 2003 Leonardo opinions are surprisingly rare I think, he's one of my favorite TMNT characters of all time, and I think he and ROTTMNT Leonardo actually have the MOST in common between their counterparts. I never understood those crossovers where Leo and Leonardo were so bewildered by each other.

💌 ⇢ how many unread emails do you have right now? 

ZERO BABEY. So I actually have OCD and notification stress me out really bad. Like make my tummy hurt and I dream about them. This is the notifications for all three of my main email accounts:

Ignore the ranchers I'm too lazy to crop, the photo widget has like 100 pieces of fanart I really like for all my fandoms. (Natural evolution from printing pictures at the school library to put in your see through binder cover)

FANTASY/ACTION/DRAMA/VIDEO GAME/SFW/FINISHED

Sorry for the wait, had some writers block related issues, exacerbated by me weapons-grade laziness. But I’m going to make it up to all two of you with something interesting! Something bizarre! Something… Video game related! Buckled up kids, it’s time for a corner-case.

Dwarf Fortress? Well, if you insist…

Slaves to Armok: God of Blood - Chapter II: Dwarf Fortress , by Zach and Tarn Adams (The Toady One and Threetoe) is a fantasy setting simulator with a couple of insanely complex little game-modes attached. It’s amazing, and I love it. It’s not for everyone, as evidenced by my continued difficulties in sharing it with friends, but hey, the works you tend to find the most valuable and important also tend to be the ones with a very specific sort of appeal. It ain’t for everyone, but boy-howdy is it for me. This is a game where you ‘control’ a colony of mad alcoholics trying to eke out a living in a dangerous world of horrible monsters, poorly planned magma smelting projects, and cannibalistic elves. And as with all things complex and niche, it has some weird and wonderful little fan projects. Oilfurnace is a good example of a short little comic based on a failed (and they tend to be failed) fortress. It sums up the experience nicely.

Anyway.

Bravemule is a little different. Chronicling the rise and fall of the eponymous fortress, it gives us a story of madness and violence, greed and avarice, mules and moustaches. Presented as a series of personal journals by the dwarves themselves, it was based on an actual playthrough of the game, with details and elaborations inserted through the writing. And what writing! The dwarves of Bravemule seem to have an… Odd mode of speaking. Or thinking. One-part antiquated, one-part total insanity, the voice of the dwarves of Bravemule helps to make the madness of their actions feel more coherent. The creatures who write down their thoughts like this probably WOULD be driven to gibbering by the presence of an octagonal room. They call everything that isn’t a dwarf or a favoured pet some kind of elf, all forms of fighting and killing are called murders. At one point, a ‘farmer’ murders a crop by drowning…

Or, y’know. She waters the plants.

The art, while not used heavily, comes in several flavours. From the detailed character portraits and occasional comic panels, to the ‘in-game’ images produced by a mod that turns the minimalist 2D art of the game itself into 3D stills. It even has a few animated, and musically enhanced updates that cover the most dramatic sections of the tale. Overall, it’s pretty great stuff! Sure, the word-to-image ratio probably doesn’t let me paint this as a webcomic on some kind of arbitrary technicality, but what we do have is good stuff. If I’m counting Erfworld as a webcomic, this isn’t THAT far from the mark. Still, if you’re not looking to do a lot of reading, maybe look elsewhere.

The biggest barrier for entry to Bravemule is, of course, context. Without some knowledge of Dwarf Fortress, it’s not going to make a whole lot of sense. Well, the basic thrust of the matter is easy enough to follow, but not the details. This is a comic for, and about, Dwarf Fortress. It’s very much a fan-work, with all the provisos that come with it. You won’t miss out on everything if you go in raw, but it will certainly be a less-than-complete experience. Many of the little jokes, lie the image above, only really tracks with an understanding of the game. And it’s really not an easy game to understand to begin with. I recently spent over an hour walking a friend through his first fortress, and while we made a lot of headway (and got insanely lucky with metal deposits, damn!) the poor guy is a dozen fortress failures away from really getting it down-pat.

Simply put, there is a LOT of work needed to really appreciate Bravemule to the fullest. If you don’t have that going in, you may not get much out of it. That’s OK! But the warning is important. It’s certainly not a bad little comic, but it isn’t one I can freely recommend like some others. And not just for that reason, either. The actual content of the comic is pretty dark. Nobody gets out of this story, and none of them have a good time on the way there. The relentless, almost whimsically grim feel of the game has been well-portrayed, and any connection you feel to individual characters will not be rewarded. They’re nasty, cruel little bastards these dwarves, and they mostly get what’s coming to them.

Still. If any of that sounds good? Could be worth a look!

EIDOLON: No Cost Too Great is (or just Eidolon for short) a new webcomic about what happens if your soul could manifest as a cool awesome guy with magic powers! It's also about grief, fate, and uphill battles. It's also also about being transgender, having friends, having transgender friends, etc.

Eidolon is an adaptation of a TTRPG campaign run by a group of similarly transgender friends. The campaign is run in the EIDOLON: Become Your Best Self system created by Luke Varner and Molly Rhinebeck.

This is Bianca, my first OC of many! Since the age of 7 she has been training to be an “Aider” which is a human agent working for an ancient secret Organization called Ignis Faatus. Their primary role is to work with spirits to keep peace between the mortal world (Earth) and the spirit world (Eidolon), which has become a civilized and functioning society much like Earth. Bianca works alongside a spirit named Ira who is partnered with her for life since being an Aider is a lifelong commitment. Bianca is headstrong and hates being treated like a child. She also puts a lot of pressure on herself because she was chosen to join the Org. at such a young age (most usually join at age 13)

This is a huge universe with lots of plot. I’m only going to post a few characters at a time to explore before I bring in more! Ahhh I’m so excited to share these with you guys you have no idea! I’m a filmmaker and writer so I’ve been developing this story for a long time (since middle school lol)
