Whumptober Day 14: Left for Dead
Fable SMP  (Superhero AU)
Summary:  Sherbert starts their experiments with the different ingredients they found and what some of the Gods of the server decide to have for them to use.  When one of Sherbert’s experiments backfires and explodes.

(Icarus’s Lab)
Icarus Morningstar, better known to the citizens of Fable City as the Alchemist, standing in their Lab working around the clock.  Icarus is the youngest Potion Master in half a century.  Icarus smiled to themself at that memory.  Just 21 years of age they manage to accomplish a feat that so many thought was impossible.  Potions just came easy to Icarus.
Icarus was always fascinated by the chemistry and magic in potions.  Something about being able to combine two very different subsidences that should never be able to work together but do.  Just captured their attention and never let go.  Now, here Icarus was working feverishly to make this potion perfect.  The Potion of Mind Weakness had to be ready and perfect.

Guys, I don’t think they can hear us! - flower pot
“No, I can hear you chat.  I’m just choosing to ignore you.  As for your answer though.  It’s because if I make this correctly then I’ll finally be able to prove to the Hero Association that I’m a true Hero.  That I earned my Hero License and not because of who my brother or Dad is.”  Icarus told them everything, their “Chat” as they called them.
Ever since Icarus could remember, they kept hearing voices that no one else could.  But it wasn’t just human voices, it was everywhere.  The bugs, the plants, the animals, and any inanimate objects.  You name it Icarus heard them loud and clear.  Sometimes, it was nice though.  Being able to talk to them and not feel like they were losing their mind.  Sometimes, it was nice to just be able to talk out loud and get what they were feeling off their chest.  Unfortunately, Icarus had to be careful, because even in a world where everyone has some kind of enhancement or power.  Telling someone that you can hear their microwave talking will land you on a one-way ticket to a Psychologist's Office.  So, Icarus had to keep that part to themself.
So, what does this do again? - potion bottle
“This Chat is the Potion of Mind Weakness.  If done right then it will weaken the person under Siren’s or Empress Mindphase’s control.   There is one catch though.  If you're in the area of the potion, you too could be affected and be easily under either one's control. So far I haven’t found out how to just make it affect the targeted person and not just the target area?”  Icarus pondered to themself.
Going back over to the Potion Stands and taking one of the Mind Weakness Potions, picking one of the smaller ones up to examine it more.  The color changes to different shades of purple, then a deep night sky blue, with small specs of amber color that look like glitter thrown in there.  Taking a sample out, placing it on the slide, and then placing the slide under the microscope, Icarus starts to take notes on what they see.
After going over countless lists and cross-referencing every single book, old and new that Icarus has in their extended Library, they even borrow a few stacks from their brother Rae.  Icarus thinks that they might have finally found a few of the ingredients to the Mind Weakness Potion that could work!  Both were extremely rare and hard to find and nearly impossible to get.  But Icarus was determined to do this!
So, after hours of searching their lab, Icarus came back with one of the ingredients to try in the potion, the Eye of Ender.   Icarus took the Eye of Ender and put it on the table and grabbed a brand new pair of gloves. Then they proceeded to make the Eye of Ender into a fine powder with the mortar and pestle and measure out the amount they thought they might need.  After going over their notes and readjusting the amount of the Ender Powder to what they believe will work best for the potion.  Icarus then carefully gathered the powder and added it to the potion.
The result was instant!  Taking their notebook and began scribbling furiously about what they discovered, Icarus didn’t notice the sudden change in the potion.  The potion that they added the Ender Powder to, began to change to a nearly black color, and the amber color spectacles became more blood red.  And the potion began to bubble and fizz.
Icarus looked up after hearing the sizzling sound and quickly rushed over.
BOOM!
(Fable Hospital)
Beep.  Beep.  Beep.  Beep.
What was that sound?  Beep.  Beep.  Beep.  Why does everything hurt?  Beep.  Beep.  Beep.  Where am I?  They groaned, and their eyes began to flutter open, only to quickly shut them tight from the blinding light that just attacked their eyes.  After taking several deep breaths to try and calm themselves, they reopened their eyes and looked around.  They were in a whitewashed room, with chairs, several wires, and tubes hooked up to them.  Oh, the beeping sound was coming from that whatchamacallit thing.
They then looked over to the right and noticed someone that was sitting there in a chair.  She had a long black elegant dress, a tiara on her head, black hair, and what looked to be Enderman features.  They had no idea who she was, but she was a very pretty lady.  Maybe she could help them.
“Oh, good you’re awake,” The pretty lady said softly.  “I wasn’t sure when you wake up.”
“Um,” they started.  “Who - who are you?”
“You - you don’t recognize me?”  They shook their head no.  They couldn’t even remember their name right now.  “Oh, Sherbert.”  Sherbert?  Was that their name?  “The doctors said you might have some memory problems.  I was just hoping you still recognized me.”
“Sorry,” they - Sherbert was it? - apologize.
“Oh, my son.  No need to apologize.  “I’m just glad that I was the one that was found before the Heroes did,” she said in a motherly voice.  What?!  Before the Heroes found them?  “Yes, before the Heroes found you.  Someone, I except, from the Hero Association, tried to sabotage your experiment.  Resulting in you having memory loss.  If the Hero Association were the ones that found you first.  Then they could’ve easily concocted up an elaborate scheme and just swept this under the rug.”
“I don’t understand,” Sherbert said.
“I’m your Mother, Enderian.  You’re my son, Sherbert.  You go by they/them pronouns but you’re also well known here in the city, as Elixir.  You were a Vigilante who specialized in Potions.  And is one of the best Potion Masters of all time.  But someone in the Hero Association kept trying to get you arrested or worse.  And now I see that they tried to kill you by setting up your Lab to explode.”
Memories of before came rushing back to Sherbert like a tsunami.  They were in their lab working on some kind of potion.  Before they were arguing with someone.  A top Hero maybe?  They can’t remember.  All they remember was, working on the potion, something went wrong, an explosion, pain.  Lots and lots of pain.  Lots and lots of heat and burning.  Then nothing.
“Who did it?”  Sherbert demanded.
“I - I don’t know, son,” Enderian said.  “But when I find out we will make them pay for what they did to you.”
“What happened to me?”  Sherbert asked in a frightened tone in their voice.
Enderian went to grab a small mirror and then handed it to Sherbert.  Sherbert took the mirror and looked.  But they wished they hadn’t!  Sherbert screamed and threw the mirror towards the wall.  Shattering it on impact.
Sherbert's eyes were two different colors, blue and yellow, but underneath one of the eyes looked like blood was dripping from it nonstop.  But that’s not why Sherbert screamed.  They screamed because of the black, purple, and red lines crisscrossing like veins across their face and neck.  Mixed in with the second and third-degree burns on their neck, and chin, and now that see and feel.  All over the hands and arms.
Sherbert vowed to get revenge on whoever did this to them.

It was an enigma stuffed inside a mystery, this case. It was as steeped in evil as the corners of his office were steeped in shadow, the darkness hiding things he couldn’t possibly imagine.
Like that old filing cabinet, its paint flaking and its doors rusted shut. Abe hadn’t looked inside that thing in years, and he wasn’t about to break that streak now.
But he would break this case. He would break this case or it would break him, just like clown school did so many years ago-
“Stick ‘em up.”
Suddenly his office was flooded with color, the black-white noir edge of it seeping into the woodwork like water into a sponge, fleeing as it always did when his boyfriend came to visit.
Abe set his pen down and rubbed at his forehead with a groan. “Cop jokes aren’t cute, Wilford.”
Wilford’s mustache tickled as he kissed the top of Abe’s head. “But I’m giving myself up, Detective. Turning myself in for the terrible, awful crime of being too damn hot.”
Abe sighed heavily. “You’re distracting me. I’m working.”
“Exactly.” Wilford leaned over him and plucked the case file from the desk, ignoring Abe’s attempts at protest. “Hmm.” He tossed the file over his shoulder, nonchalant as it struck the blackboard and spilled all over the floor. “Murders are boring. Don’t you have anything fun? How about a good old fashioned robbery?”
Abe spun his chair around and tried to get up to retrieve his file, but all he really succeeded in doing was putting himself in Wilford’s reach. “You think murders are boring? People have died! Whole people, with memories and lives, and, and-”
“And? They’ll be back up and around in no time, no harm done.” Wilford planted both hands on either arm of Abe’s chair while Abe was still working out the logic behind that incredibly fucked-up statement. “Enough shop talk. Time for some fun.”
Before the detective could protest they were gone, his office abandoned in favor of, perhaps, a skating rink. Or an ice cream stand.

Egotober 2023 Day 1: I Just Want to Help
Summary: Silver wouldn’t go as far to say that he has a “biggest fan” just that he has someone who sees him as a “biggest inspiration”. Which normally wouldn’t be a problem, however Silver is a superhero with two dangerous supervillain enemies who run a massive criminal organization.
Prompt: Cape
A/N: Been a while, dealing with some serious writer’s block brain rot. Hoped to return early but didn’t happen. So I’m dropping off some Egotober stuff and hopefully some other stuff but I make no promises. This Egotober I’m going with an additional theme that was highlighted in: Six Ate Seven. So for some people it’s been a while but this works in that former reality. Where Patton is still a Lost One and deals with those characters. This is in the timeframe where they’re all still kids (teenagers to be exact). So you might see teen Ethan running around too.

Over the city streets of Egoton, Silver was keeping a watch on the town.
While he was conducting a sky patrol he heard someone calling out to him on the top of a fire escape.
“Hey, Silver!”
Silver looked over and saw the rather common sight of what looked like a kid wearing a mask. They were maybe a teenager in bright blues, a sweater and a pair of jeans, and a black domino mask that looked like it’d been brought at Spirit Halloween. A bright blue cape on and a shock of dyed blue hair.
A kid looking like a superhero was common. He and the rest of the Coalition saw it all the time. What was uncommon was one standing on top of the fire escape.
“H-Hello?” Silver said, coming to a stop to float mid air.
“I’m here to help,” he had a huge smile on his face as he half jumped up on the top of the rail and balanced on it.
“I don’t think the Coalition can legally add minors,” Silver tried to say. He didn’t wanna just crush this kid’s dreams right out the gate. Maybe in ten years they could set something up, but not now.
“No, I can fight bad guys, I can do this,” he said with a huge smile.
Silver floated over closer.
“Come on, kid,” Silver said. “This stuff is really dangerous. You can’t just be running around in a domino mask and a sweater. Wilford shots people on a whim. Dark flays people apart with his shadow aura.”
“And I have powers,” the young man said. “I can do this and I’ll do it with or without you.”
“You’re like what? Ten?” Silver asked.
“I am fourteen,” the young man boasted. “I’m a man.”
“Oh yeah, fourteen, that’s so much better,” Silver said. “You know what I was doing when I was fourteen? Playing video games and being too chickenshit to talk to girls. That’s what I was doing.”
“Yeah, because you were wasting your powers, I have them and I’m going to use them,” Ethan said.
And then he ran off and Silver’s heart was beating a little too fast. This kid was going to be the death of him. Either this kid was going to kill himself, or Mark was going to do it for him.
Silver tried to catch up with him but the kid had disappeared. Which was probably the most terrifying thing. He had to get this kid home safe and he couldn’t find him.
Silver hit his communicator. “SAM, we got a teenager running around trying to fight villains.”
“Seems like a you problem, Silver,” an automated voice said.
“No, no it’s us problem, you ass. He can turn invisible.” Silver began flying around.
Silver wished this had happened last week when Marvin had been in town. They had absolutely no one in the Egoton branch who could follow aura trails. Maybe he could get Marvin over stateside for a while, or they could find someone who could see aura trails. He’d take anything at this point.
While he was flying around, starting with the fire escape and radiating out from there. He called his entire team out to track down one fourteen-year-old kid.
“APB, we have a fourteen-year-old punk running around and trying to be a superhero. I need help finding him before Wilford kills him. He turns invisible.”
“I hear you,” Wade said, he sounded like he was in the middle of a crowd or his mic was broken again. “Why are you chasing a child?”
“In-vis-ible, invisible, dipshit,” Silver said. “Is there some toy or tool that the Septics left last week that we can use?”
“I think I have something,” Bob said. “Marvin was testing some weird shit out when he and Average were in town.”
Silver began a mad chase through the city, which unfortunately eventually led him to the Warehouses. The superhero hoped desperately that the kid wouldn’t be here. He could be in and out and that he’d just gone home.
Silver tried being stealthy, and for a second he caught sight of the teenager he’d been chasing. And Silver’s heart sank as he started following him.
In front of one of the warehouses in the cluster was Wilford.
Silver’s literal worst case scenario.
There was someone, maybe a teenager, with him in a tweed suit. With a matching dark green hat on his head. They seemed to be talking about something, Wilford talking with his hands rather animatedly.
Then Wilford’s eyes were tracking something and Silver’s heart managed to beat even faster.
“Oh, ho,” Wilford smiled as he reached out and grabbed something. “What have we here?”
A few things happened at once. One was the teenage hero turned visible again as he fought for air against the grip on his throat. Silver flew closer, trying to get to them before Wilford shot the teenager. And then there was the far more worrying thing to happen: Dark showed up.
The kid in tweed was pulled through a portal, worrying Silver, and Dark emerged in their place. Oozing purple, blue, and a little bit of red aura, dripping off of him like toxic waste.
His eyes met Silver’s mask and he looked braced to attack.
Then his eyes tracked over to the kid. “Wilford, what are you doing?”
“Little tyke has a neat party trick, I only plucked him out of thin air,” Wilford smiled.
“Hmm, release him,” Dark said and to Silver’s amazement the madman did so.
“No fun, Darky,” Wilford frowned.
The teenager began backpedaling towards Silver, who was all too happy to push him behind him but kept a hold of his arm.
“Who’s your friend, Shepherd?” Dark’s head tilted.
“Not my friend, I’ll be escorting him back home,” Silver said.
Dark’s eyes moved between Silver and the teen behind him. His head tilted and he looked a little smug. “Is that yours, Silver?”
“No, I’d have to have been ten, if he was mine,” Silver said.
“Interesting, I would have thought you were older, but now that I think about it, you do sound twenty-four,” Dark smiled at him.
“Nope,” Silver tried to sound casual. “Not that young, I’ll take him, and we’ll be out. Forget you saw either of us. Just go back to doing illegal shit.”
“Oh, we will,” Dark smiled at him. “Now run off. And take your little child with you.”
Silver did just that, dragging the young man along but keeping an eye on Dark and Wilford.
Bob and Wade were waiting for them in costume.
“Gatling, Drowned,” Silver greeted stiffly and lifted the young man’s arm up.
Within seconds a bubble enclosed around the young man.
“Hey!” He shouted.
Bob was looking at the teenager beating his fists against the bubble.
“So this is your little Syndrome, huh?” Bob said.
“If this kid turns into a supervillain, I think you deserve it,” Wade smiled at him.
“I’m going to be a superhero and you can’t stop me,” Ethan said. “I don’t need you three to do it.”
“I don’t know, Silv, I like this kid’s moxie,” Wade said. “Maybe we can keep him around.”
The young man smiled at Wade.
“Absolutely not,” Mark said, flying up with a careful but firm grip.
He signaled and Bob made a handle grow out of the top of the bubble. Silver grabbed it and began flying off. “C’mon, before Dark follows us back to the kid’s place.” 
“Not a kid!” The young man shouted.
“You’re four-fucking-teen,” Silver shouted. Which reminded Silver. Dark had seemed to know that. But . . . That sounded off.
How did Dark know what a fourteen-year-old even looked like? As opposed to a thirteen-year-old or a ten-year-old. Dark hated kids, always looked at them with some kind of disgust.
It took some time to get both the kid’s name and his address from him. Mostly under threat of demasking and scanning his face and start calling up different schools to figure out who he was.
They arrived in front of a house in some suburban neighborhood. Not the biggest house, but no one could compete with Dark’s Hilltop Manor.
Silver knocked on the door as he popped the bubble barrier and grabbed Ethan Nestor by the arm.
“I just want to help,” Ethan glared at him. Still in his mask and costume.
“We can talk when you’re eighteen,” Silver said. “This isn’t a game. Just because I can get thrown against the wall and keep on ticking doesn’t mean everyone should be doing it.
Ethan was about to respond when the door opened and a worried looking woman opened the door.
“There you are,” she said.
Silver held up Ethan’s arm. “Ma’am, I believe this is yours.”
Ethan pulled his arm away. “I’m not going to stop.”
“You should,” Silver said. “If this was anything else I’d say follow your dreams, but Wilford is a madman and a murderer, and so is Dark.”
Ethan took off his mask and stormed inside.
“Thank you,” she said. “I’m so sorry.”
“Just try and talk some sense into him,” Silver said. “Have a good night, ma’am.”
She said goodbye and the door was closed and Silver flew off, going back to scanning the city and hoping he wouldn’t run into Ethan again.
He was wrong of course. He’d see Ethan several times over the next couple of weeks, and then more often over the next couple of years.
In the Manor, however, Dark was chewing Wilford out.
“What was that?” Dark held Wilford against the wall, his arm barred across his chest.
Wilford smiled at him.
“No,” Dark cut him off. “You had Illinois with you, within sight of the heroes.”
“It wasn’t that bad, Darky,” Wilford said.
“Only because I was watching,” Dark said.
“At best, I’m one of your enforcers,” Illinois said.
“Don’t, or I’ll just let Arthur and Kay be enforcers and you can stay behind.” Dark gave him a look and turned back to Wilford.
“J.J is the single biggest threat the heroes have against us, and I need that time traveling bastard to stay in England dealing with Anti and not in our city.”
“Jay is fun, Darkling, come on,” Wilford smiled.
“No, and that’s final, if I see J.J in town anytime soon, you will regret it,” Dark said.
Then he let Wilford go and steered Illinois back to the living room where the rest of the Lost Ones were playing games. 
Both Ethan and Illinois returned safely home.

“C’mon man you know I don’t-”
“Oh come on, don’t tell me you're scared.” One of Chase’s new friends mock, Connor, he’s a bit closer to Chase’s age at 16.
“No! Of course not!” Chase’s voice cracks, he is fucking terrified, being friends with people who can do magic he already has an idea on what not to do and doing a summoning ritual in an abandon mansion is fair up on his list of things not to do.
“It’s not like it’ll work anyway.” Another friend grunts as he forces open the old wooden double doors, David, he’s the oldest of them and 18.
“Ya never know.” Josh tease towards Chase, he’s 17 and David’s younger brother.
“Who knows, you could black out and kill everyone.” Connor laughs as he enters the manor.
Chase’s blood freezes at the thought before shaking it off and walking inside.
The first thing he notices is that he can’t hear any of the outside noise, only this… low high-pitched ringing in the background. And their shadows seem darker, the shining setting sun through the windows seem so much darker than it should be as well. 
Chase doesn’t notice as his shadow turns to look at him, quickly following his friends.
He swallows harshly seeing an old stain on ground from the balcony stairs and he quickly follows the three of them upstairs, Unknowing of the shadow watching them from the corner of the ceiling.
Josh opens a door and greens seeing a table covered in red cloth and a crystal ball, “Perfect.”
“Guys I really don’t think-”
“Oh just relax, there's nothing to worry about.” David assure half heartily as Connor starts spray-painting a pentagram on the ground in the room.
.
He sits in the middle of the circle kind of fading waiting for the others to get bored so they can leave, they didn’t even do anything other than paint some runes and placed some white crystals on each point of the circle and told him to sit in it.
To be honest, he’s really bored himself, at least until he notices the ringing in the room get louder.
“Uh? Do you guys hear that?” Chase’s asks them before freezing, seeing an elongated shadow rising over them.
Before they can respond, the Shadow darts towards him and engulfs him, filling his ears with ringing.
.
Chase is stumbling backwards before catching himself, his heart absolutely racing as he watches him slumped body lift back up.
“Uh, you okay, man?” Josh asks, looking rather freaked out.
Instead of answering, his body rises, Chase’s heart is in his throat and he instinctively rushes forward, attempting to grab his body and do *something* but instead it feels like he pushed harshly to the ground.
“Ch-Chase man, hey this isn’t funny!” Josh snaps, terrified.
The thing in Chase’s body stares at them with dead eyes, before taking a step towards them.

Egotober Day 21: Shadow
It wasn’t the first time Janus had been in the background while Thomas was busy during the day. He had been here longer than most of the other Sides realized, he wasn’t just Deceit after all, but as Thomas had had it shoved down his throat that Self Preservation was selfish, wasn’t ‘good’. That if he looked out for himself that he was a bad person almost all his life. The snake like Side had been in the shadow for a very long time.
He wasn’t at all an umbrakinetic but he could navigate in it as well as the animal he shared scales with. He watched Thomas joke around with friends, his reptilian gold eyes narrowed as he accepted an offer to hang out and reassured his friend he did want to. The lie tasted bittersweet to his senses, like semi sweet chocolate. Not a complete falsehood but not entirely true either.
Thomas still wasn’t taking full care of himself, wasn’t letting himself realize that being selfish sometimes wasn’t a bad thing and it made Janus want to hiss. Snap his fangs in frustration because they’d already talked about this. He could see better than anyone that he was stressed from doing so much already, that he was stretched thin from multiple angles. Oh he knew that Thomas wanted to be a good friend and didn’t want to make it seem like he was ignoring them if they needed him, but that was the whole crux of the problem.
Thomas needed time for himself, whether that was playing a game, reading, or even taking a walk or nap. Just something Thomas enjoyed that was only for himself, his batteries needed a recharge before he crashed. Before they experienced another meltdown.
Time for his shadow to come to the light, so to speak. Janus waited until Thomas was physically alone and then pulled him into the mindscape, he stepped out and cleared his throat.
“Thomas, we need to talk.”
He just hoped that he would be listened to this time, he really did have Thomas’ best interests at heart, Dark Side or not.

Referring to day 21: Potion
It didn’t take that long for Mad to adjust to his tail, swimming through the ocean like he was born to be there.
The bitter taste of the potion still sat in the back of his tongue, reminding him that he only had until sunset to find Mare and get a confession before he’d drown with a broken heart. It was why he’d taken the potion at the crack of dawn, so that he could have more time, scoffing at his “friends” who told him this was all a mistake.
As always, he heard the twins before he saw them: lilting voices riding the currents as their tails swayed in the water, creating calming ripples while they sang to their prey. Mad stopped to watch for a while, admiring the graceful way Mare’s tail moved against the currents created by his brother.
The sirens spoke through a series of chittering sounds, short clicks in the back of their throats in varying pitches, and Mad blinked when the chittering started to slowly make sense to him, treading water while he waited for the twins to finish their song.
“You’ll need a shell,” a voice behind Mad whispered, and he turned to see a merman picking at his fingers. “If you want to court one of them, you need a shell. It’s their way of communicating to tell them you’re interested.”
“Who… are you?” Mad asked. The merman wore a simple band tied across his chest, showing off a series of scars across his torso leading to a deep blue tail, similar in shape to Mad’s, and something clicked suddenly. “You’re not one of them.”
“My name’s Jackie,” he offered, holding a hand out for Mad to shake. “You’re right, I’m not a siren. I’m like you: fell in love with a siren, took a potion, and now I’m here. I’m waiting for Phantom to bring supper.”
“Phantom’s the red one?” Mad asked, motioning at the red tail swaying in the water.
“Phan’s the red one, yes. We’re still courting, hence the supper thing, but we are technically promised to each other now.” His cheeks flushed as he spoke, scratching the back of his head with an awkward chuckle.
“Jackie! The ship’s about to crash!”
Mad and Jackie both looked up to see the twins swimming toward them, excited faces changing to uncertainty and confusion as they saw Mad. Phantom sped toward Jackie, wrapping his arms around him protectively as he growled at Mad, while Mare swam closer to inspect him.
“Mad, right?” he asked, and Mad couldn’t deny the way his heart fluttered at hearing Mare say his name. “From the village. You watched me sing a few moons ago. One of your… friends called your name, and you disappeared.”
“Y-Yes,” Mad stammered, suddenly realising how empty his hands were as his cheeks flushed. “I-I wanted to see you again, so I took a potion, and you look really cool in person, but I’ve only got until sunset before I drown and I—”
“Mad,” Jackie hissed, stopping him mid-ramble. Mad blushed darker, snapping his hands behind his back as he ducked his head with a mumbled apology.
“How do we stop you from drowning?” Mare asked gently, moving forward to lift Mad’s chin with a finger, offering him a patient smile.
“I-I…” Mad tried to duck his head again, only to be stopped by Mare’s hand still on his chin. “You need to tell me you love me. That you want to be with me. Then I’ll stay like this and can be with you.”
“You want me to tell you I want you?” Mare clarified, seeing the way Mad’s eyes widened, something inside them shattering as Mad’s lip trembled. “You need me to tell you I want you with me, and that I love you?” 
“Y-You don’t have to,” Mad rushed to say, pushing against Mare’s chest in an attempt to back away. “You can say you hate me, that I’m crazy, you can eat me once I’m gone, but I can’t get you out of my head, and I want to spend my life with you.” The tears fell freely as he finished speaking, seeing the way Mare’s eyes widened as he curled in on himself.
Here it was. The end of everything. Mad was an idiot, and when his body washed up on shore tomorrow, his acquaintances would say the same. The months he’d spent waiting by the shore for a glimpse of Mare in the sea, listening to his songs from his cabin window, all that time would be for nothing, because Mare thought—
“Of course I want you. I’ve wanted you since the moment I saw you. I love you, Mad.” Hands moving to hold Mad close, Mare pressed his nose into the crook of Mad’s neck, pulling back when he heard Mad sniffle.
“I-I love you, too, Mare,” Mad whispered before lifting both hands to hold Mare’s face, pulling him into a deep kiss as the siren swam them in circles. He broke away with a giggle as Phantom and Jackie cheered behind them, looking into purple eyes to see nothing but love and adoration staring back at him. Held in Mare’s arms, Mad turned to rest his cheek against Mare’s chest, listening to his heart with a small smile.
If he could spend forever listening to Mare’s heart, Mad would die happy. Jackie’s words echoed in his mind, and he made a mental note to find a suitable shell for Mare when he could get the chance.

Egotober Day 21: Shadow
Part of my Missed Messages AU
Author's Note: I don't exactly know where I was going with this. I was inspired by Persona's "shadow selves" but that's all I can really tell you.

Everyone has a side of themself they want to keep hidden from the world. Someone they don’t want to exist, don’t want as a part of them. But it’s still there, following you around like a shadow. Always with you in the light. And something you don’t have to hide in the dark. It’s never gone though. And it’s never really hidden. You just have to watch their behaviors.
The one too afraid to face his own feelings.
And the one too cowardly to say what he thinks.
The one running away from his past.
And the one who is afraid to trust again.
One terrified of going too far.
And the other one afraid of inevitably being alone.
It’s always there. Looming over them. Influencing every action. No matter how much you twist and turn and coil yourself, it’s there. Watching over you. Will you accept it? Or keep trying to outrun it?
Do you really have any choice in the matter?
