I wish I could tell my 14 year old self that one day I will envy her: those feelings that burst in her chest one day I will crave them. The ability to write long poems about heartache and lonely hours. Her ability to read the classics under the rain that now I can hardly read for necessary tasks.That one day I'll wish I could pull an all nighter enjoying music instead of sleeping 14 hours and waking up tired. That those horrible habits of eating nothing and never getting rest will make her feel ill. That she's good at ballet and should enjoy it instead of stressing about her weight. That she's an outcast for stupid reasons and it's better to enjoy what you love than to feel bad for not fitting in. That it's her time to go head over heels and if it's about Irish history or egiptology all the better. That I'm sorry for not allowing her to love me and that I'm sorry for fucking up and I'm using whatever energy I have left for self preservation so that my future self can sit and read under the rain again.

I'm a student of history, and I was busy studying letters written in ancient Egypt! There's something magical about reading correspondence or diaries from way back when and realizing how, in some ways, very little has changed

hi!! we have the same career, i just graduated in history! and i really like reading letters too. sadly my uni doesnt offer any classes related to egiptology so i didnt get to study it, but it seems very interesting

Ohhhhhhh apparently there is a bit of drama with russian egiptology circles

I have no fucking idea about egipt besides general things (some mythology, a lot of lines of Pharoahs including that one guy who declared himself the God of son and built entirely new city in record times, and also pyramids) but now I think I need to learn more just to get into this drama. Like, there's a guy who says he's a scientist, but people who are more into egiptology say that he's more of a fraud who obviously doesn't know shit but charismatic enough to convince those who don't know better (and write some books, and claim that he's the only one who knows entient egiptian while not knowing shit about modern state of egiptology, like any other guy who think that his knowledge of history that is about as old as 1917 revolution if not older is obsolete and now he'll write new history or some shit while ignoring evolution of historical methodology and whatnot).

For example, he apparently plagerized other authors. Including ond old and well-known one, Perepelkin, with very colorful language that isn't common among scientific community.

So yeah, it looks quite interesting.

Forget true crime, bring complicated scientific drama to the table! I won't participate, but I'll read the hell out of it.

Howard Carter, un egiptolog englez, a avut o bănuială că mormântul lui Tutankamon s-ar afla în Valea Regilor, în ciuda opiniilor celorlalţi arheologi care susţineau că toate mormintele din zonă ar fi fost deja descoperite. În 1914, sponsorizat de Lordul Carnavarvon, Carter a început cercetările. Timp de şapte ani, efoturile sale nu s-au concretizat cu rezultatul aşteptat. În noiembrie 1922, în timpul ultimului sezon de explorări pe care Lordul anunţase că le mai sponsorizează, norocul a fost de partea lui Carter. Muncitorii săi egipteni au descoperit nişte scări care duceau spre o uşă sigilată. Culoarul spre „lucruri minunate” După ce a distrus sigiliul uşii, Carter a găsit un culoar plin cu piatră şi moloz, la capătul căruia se afla o altă uşă sigilată, cu însemnele regale ale lui Tutankamon. Momentul decisiv sosise. Cu mâinile tremurânde am realizat o mică breşă în colţul din stânga sus.
