Meeting and Dating Edward Dalton
(Not my gif)(Requested by anonymous)
(human s/o)
- There’s a stretch of land outside of town that hasn’t been touched in ages. It's the discarded remains of a once busy urban neighborhood. A place that's been torn apart and left in shambles after a series of events that you weren’t around to witness. There’s a layer of dust on everything you haven’t bothered moving, like a poorly kept museum of all things mundane. It's the evidence of hundreds of peoples lives that you really don’t have the heart to rifle through; not unless absolutely necessary.
- You don’t know its story, but you’ve come to call it home. It’s the safest place you’ve found in a considerably long time: a lot of sun and not a lot of shade. You have a running hypothesis that someone, somewhere decided that turning the area into something more sustainable; particularly for the new world order of night-dwelling monsters, simply wasn't worth the effort. It's a decision that's left even it's darkest spaces uninhabited; the only signs of life being the occasional passing car.
- Though you're not as jumpy as you used to be; lured into a false sense of security by the continual absence of dangerous company, you still find yourself feeling like a deer in the middle of an empty forest. You freeze at every little sound, watch for any hint of danger, bolt at any suspicion of company.
- You wonder if Edward makes the same connection when the two of you meet for the first time. You wonder if he feels like the opposite: feels like a prowling wolf when he stands in the shadows, watching the sun glint off of your hair from his place in the absence of it. You wonder how many deer's have seen the same glowing pin pricks in the middle of the darkness surrounding them. You wonder how many of them knew that the flickering lights meant death.
- A part of you doesn’t believe it when you see the amber shine of his eyes, maybe because you really don’t want to believe it: don’t want to believe that you’re going to have to leave, to find another home after all of this time. Your stomach drops and you hope that there’s some explainable reason as to why you’re seeing those two little lights: like when you envision a body out of random clothes and furniture in the darkness of your bedroom.
- But there’s no explanation, none besides the obvious, and you’re forced to stand frozen in place as you wait for them to make a move, knowing that the two of you are equally trapped, one in the sunlight and the other in the shade.
“You’re human.” He says in surprise, glowing eyes moving as he tilts his head in the darkness, trying to look at you closer without risking a potential burn from the sun which separates you. You stagger further away, further into the heat of the light behind you, and he assures you that it’s okay, that he’s not going to hurt you. You don’t believe him.
“What are you doing here?” You question, eyes flickering around the room for a potential weapon. You’re safe for the time being, but that won’t last forever.
“I used to work around here when I was younger. The grocery store down the road, I stocked the shelves in high school,” He starts to explain, pausing to look for a sign of recognition in your eyes. You keep your expression guarded and he continues. “I remembered it the other day. I wanted to see what happened to it, that’s all.”
“In the daytime?”
“The only time I have off.” He replies lightheartedly. You don’t offer a smile.
“Listen, I didn’t mean to come here and scare you. I didn’t think I was gonna find anyone. Everyone thinks this place is abandoned.” He tries reassuring you.
“That’s kind of the point.” You reply curtly.
“Yeah, but….” His words trails off.
“But?” You prod warily.
“Well, they’re tearing it down,” He answers. “Everyone’s been talking about it, it’s part of why I came down here. They’re gonna salvage what they can and build around it. Block out the sun.”
“You’re not, you’re not gonna be safe here for very much longer. I’m actually surprised that no one’s found you yet. With all of the planning that’s been going on, there’s had to have been dozens of people coming down here and scoping everything out. How long have you been here?” He questions, though you can't bring yourself to answer him, still trying to process what he's just revealed to you.
- You'd seen it coming of course, anyone with half a brain would have seen it coming. But that was when you'd first discovered the area: when you were still hiding away from every shadow and tensing at every sudden noise. If it was going to happen, then it would have happened already: you'd told yourself. And over time, you'd actually begun to believe it. You'd convinced yourself that the rest of the world had forgotten about the deserted town, the same way they'd forgotten about you....
- The thought of dozens of vampires stumbling through the place you'd begun to call your home made you sick. The thought of them crawling through the streets and the corridors of different buildings, of their fingerprints dusting over your own on all of the same railings and door handles, of them just barely missing you....
"You should come with me." The man interrupts your inner breakdown. The idea is almost enough to make you laugh but instead, you simply look at him like he's crazy.
"I-I know you have no reason to trust me, but there's gonna be a lot more vampires coming down here. I mean, maybe not today or tomorrow, but soon. And there's nothing left around here, everything's been torn down, it's ...taken over. ...I have a spare bedroom at my place-" He rambles, urging you to listen to him, to agree to come home with him.
"Do you really expect me to take you up on that offer?" You interrupt, asking the question incredulously. He flounders for something to say, very obviously knowing that you wouldn't agree yet still hoping that you would.
"No," He finally comes up with. "But you should."
"Why?"
"Because I'm not like them."
- His efforts in convincing you to leave with him are about as successful as one could imagine. You adamantly refuse, blatantly dodging his questions and attempts to wrangle information out of you: information about what you'll do and where you'll go once the rest of his kind start to invade. He ultimately leaves you alone, though not before giving you his home address. And in the days that follow, you're forced to admit that Edward was telling the truth.
- Vampires do start to invade, and though none of them ever come as close as he did, you know that you're running out of time. You have to make your escape and you have to make it fast, make it before anyone else can discover that you're there. So with little other choice, you find yourself sneaking into your supposed allies quiet little suburb....
- He answers the door with a hint of confusion, probably because there's no one on the other side of it, at least no one that he can see. You're hiding a little ways away, your mind telling you not to reveal yourself until you're sure that he's alone; not to mention whether or not you're sure that you've arrived at the right house. He looks awestruck when you finally emerge, stilling at the sight of you before he quickly ushers you inside, looking around to ensure that no ones watching as you hesitantly step past him and through his front door.
- You're sure that your discomfort is obvious, and though he tries to hide it, Edward seems equally as uncomfortable in your presence as you are in his. It feels as though he didn't think he'd get this far, and now that he has, he's unsure of what to do next. He settles for showing you around, jumping from thing to thing as you slowly trail after him, watching as he demonstrates how to turn on the shower, and the coffee maker, and the security system, and so on.
"I uh, I drink pigs blood." He explains when the two of you reach his kitchen. He awkwardly glances from you to the bottles stacked in his fridge, seemingly hemming and hawing over how much of the shelves he should show you, worrying that he'll make you even more wary of your newfound predicament. "All animal product ...so you uh, you don't have to worry."
- He tells you to let him know if there's anything you need or will be needing in the future while he shows you to your room. He flicks the lights on and continues his tour. The room is neater than the rest of the house, lacking the stacked books and boxes of documents that seem to reside along the molding of every other wall in the house. It's simple and barren, almost sterile looking; especially in comparison to the very lived-in apartments that you'd grown used to residing in ever since humans went into hiding.
- It's surprisingly easy to get used to living with Edward. When you'd first arrived, you'd spent a week or so walking on eggshells; feeling like a nervous cat being taken home from the shelter. But it's hard to be afraid of a man who seems equally as afraid of you. It's also hard to be afraid of a man who rambles awkwardly about period products, and whether or not it's okay that he got chunky peanut butter instead of smooth because that's "all they had at the store". Not to mention, a man who's hit his head; and limbs, multiple times after being startled by your sudden arrival.
- Edward grows on you. And, judging from his recently longstanding lack of injuries, you've seemed to grow on him as well.
- You grow on him so much, in fact, that it starts to make him nervous. There’s a feeling that bubbles in his chest whenever you smile at him. It surfaces when you let him touch you, let him feel your pulse lingering beneath his fingers when he puts a hand on your shoulder or clasps your necklace. It claws at him when you stop to fix his hair in the evening before he leaves for work, or when you hand him the papers he forgot at the table. He realizes, with a feeling akin to realizing that you're at the edge of a cliff, that he's begun to fall in love with you. And thus, his inner conflict begins....
- Edward finds it far too easy to forget you're not together. His mind wanders when he's away from you, when his skin still tingles from the feeling of your touch. When you leave the room and the warmth of your body still lingers on whatever you'd been laying on. When you borrow his coat and give it back to him heated and laced with perfume. When he returns home and finds you waiting for him, his unpleasant thoughts interrupted by the sight of your face. For a few blissful moments, he allows himself to pretend that you're his: that you love him back and that you never plan on leaving, that you're not by his side purely out of personal convenience.
- He finds himself wanting to indulge you because in doing so, he indulges himself. He takes pleasure in making you happy, in knowing that he's, in some way, responsible for making you feel that way. It feels so ...domestic being able to take care of you, a bit like he's your husband. It's a fantasy that's broken when you happen to come across another human during one of your carefully planned outings.
- He watches you stare at each other from his place in the shadows. Watches you hurriedly introduce yourselves, shock, excitement, and relief flooding across both of your features. It's a sobering sight, a quick and harsh reminder that he has no “power over you”. That, no matter how much effort he puts into making you happy or how desperately he wants you to care about him, there's still nothing tying you to him. He wonders if he’d even be a thought in your head if that stranger asked you to go with them.
- He weighs his options before he slowly steps out into the open. The sound of his footsteps drawing the attention away from you and onto him. He watches the panic rise, watches the stranger make a move to run, grabbing your arm and attempting to pull you with them; to pull you away from him. The sight makes his stomach churn, a feeling that's only partially relieved when you plant your feet and refuse to move.
- There's a hint of betrayal that crosses their features when you try to explain the situation. When the realization dawns on them; when it becomes obvious that the two of you are together, they drop your arm as though they've been burned. They don't listen as you try to reason with them, they merely back away and hurriedly leave.
"Lets go." You tell him when they're finally gone, your voice and expression giving him nothing to work with when trying to gauge how you're feeling. He apologizes for scaring them away while the two of you drive home in silence. 'It's probably for the best': you tell him and he swallows at the sound of it, wondering what you mean.
- Edward is selfless when it comes to you, but he finds himself wanting to be selfish. He wants to beg you to consider him: to consider how perfect things could be if you just gave him a chance. He knows he could make you happy: could make you want to stay forever.
- But he can't bring himself to pressure you. So instead, he settles for something smaller. Settles for biting his tongue when he finds himself thinking you'd be better off somewhere else. Settles or hesitating to respond when you mention other humans. Settles for halfheartedly advising against it whenever you ask to go searching for something or someone or somewhere. To deny you is one thing, to procrastinate and refuse to instigate is another. Isn't it?
"Maybe we should start looking for more people downtown," You suggest one night. The words make his throat feel tight and though he has a million questions racing through his mind, he remains silent and waits for you to speak again. When you do, it's with a joking tone. "I'm sure you'd like to get me out of your hair at ...some point."
"I like having you here." He says after a heavy swallow. It sucks all of the lightheartedness out of the room: far too earnest and full of restrained emotion. The moment of silence which follows feels tense, almost suffocating. He interrupts it with an almost melancholic goodnight, leaving you to overthink things all on your own for the rest of the "night".
- The house feels different after that, different in a way you can't quite place. It reminds you of when you first arrived at Edwards home, when he was always either too quiet or too talkative: watching you silently or rambling nervously in an attempt to fill the silence.
- The night he cooks you dinner is a night where he's chosen to be silent. He seems hyper focused on the meal he's preparing: deep in thought as though there's something on his mind other than the task at hand. When he cracks open an expensive bottle of wine, you teasingly ask if you're celebrating something, trying to lighten the tense mood that's seemed to permeate the air as soon as he'd gotten home from work. He gives you a tight-lipped smile and an unconvincing chuckle in response, pouring you a glass with a hand that trembles ever so slightly.
"The time I've spent with you these past few months has meant a lot to me," You've finished half of your plate by the time he's gathered the nerve to finally reveal what's been eating away at him. "And that day when we met the other human, it proved to me how much you have come to mean to me. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I want us to stay together. I don't care where: whether it's here or somewhere else. I just want to be with you."
- Your throat feels tight by the time he's finished, choked with emotion as your heart hammers in your chest. His eyes meet yours over the table, shining like candlelight while you give him a shaky smile, trying to collect yourself and all of the nerves that are going haywire at his makeshift confession.
"I don't want to pressure you-" He starts when you struggle to respond.
"-You're not." You hurriedly insist, watching the way he slowly begins to smile after reading the expression on your face.
- You share your first kiss not long after. You hear him come into the room before you see him, feel his hands on your body before you can turn to look. His touch is featherlight as it glides across your skin, lingering gently on your shoulders before he slowly turns you around, stepping just that bit closer before he softly connects your lips. The feel of them is icy, a sharp contrast to the warmth of your own. He exhales harshly as he takes it in, his body shuddering pleasantly at the unfamiliar sensation. His kisses grow needier when you don't pull away, pulling every thought out of your head and making you forget what you'd been doing just moments before.
- You think you'd be okay with forgetting everything as long as he kept kissing you like that....
- Public displays of affection are sort of nonapplicable in your relationship. Since you're human and humans are considered enemies of the state, no one can know that you exist, and even if they did, they cannot know that the two of you are together. Even if you're in front of other humans, it's not wise for you to let them know that the two of you are dating: not knowing how much they'll trust you if they knew, or what kind of danger you could get into it because of it. You are; or the two of you are, for all intents and purposes, a secret.
- Edward marvels at your humanity: the feel of your heartbeat, the heat of your skin. It's been ten years since he was human and he's nearly forgotten the feeling of it, making it hard for him to keep his hands to himself. Oftentimes, his affection is innocent: caressing you and trailing his fingers down your arms and spine, watching your body shiver and react. Even before the two of you were together, he'd struggle to contain himself: wanting so badly to touch you yet knowing it wasn't his place; his hands shaking with needy anticipation every time you were close to him.
- Him pressing his lips to your forehead before connecting his own forehead to the exact same spot, holding you close to him as he savors the moment and the feel of you locked in his arms.
- You probably have a scar from when the two of you first met, and he sometimes likes to press kisses to it or smooth his fingers across the harsh line; absentmindedly trailing a soft caress against the marred skin and reminiscing about your relationship.
- His kisses have a tendency to be chaste yet they still manage to linger. There's a lasting neediness behind his affection, even when the action itself is nothing of the sort. Although, sometimes he loses himself in the moment before having to force himself to pull away, struggling to stay in control as his desires and his impulses take hold of him. You're an addiction he has to grow used to; for your sake and for his own.
- Cuddling up on the couch together.
- He has a habit of falling asleep on the couch so you usually have to poke him awake and urge him into bed with you. You also have to keep a somewhat nocturnal schedule yourself if you want to be able to cuddle with him. He's a busy man so most of the time you spend with each other is spent in bed, having him wrap himself around you from behind and murmur quietly in your ear.
- He usually just calls you by your given name or a casual nickname. He's not a sappy person; especially when it comes to terms of endearment, so the farthest he'll go is calling you sweetheart or affectionately referring to you as his heating pad or something of the sort. That being said: he has shocked you by earnestly calling you "his sun", making you want to cry with how sweet and genuine it sounded falling from his lips.
- Earnest little compliments spoken out of nowhere. You'll be doing nothing special and he'll just randomly interrupt you with a "you're so beautiful"; sometimes before you even realize he was there and/or watching you. The way he says it makes it seem as though it was something he just had to tell you, the level of sincerity in it making your heart skip a beat.
- He can honestly stare at you for ages. You've sort of become like an exotic beauty: the normal colored eyes, squared teeth, skin with more pigment than ashy paleness, etc.
- You also find yourself staring: safely indulging in the foreign beauty of something you're meant to fear. He gets a bit shy under your gaze which only ever seems to make him even more handsome.
- He's the perfect sketching partner to have if you happen to be an artist because he generally stays pretty still regardless of what he's doing; making it relatively easy to doodle away while he's lost in thought or busy with his own work.
- Parallel play. He likes being able to do his work and/or read while you occupy yourself in the same space as him.
- Having him read to you. Your boyfriend has the voice of an angel, and he kind of loves it whenever you curl up next to him and ask him to read aloud, brushing off his attempts to tell you that it's boring science stuff and that you wouldn't be interested in it. You tell him that it's "even better" and that he can bore you to sleep as you nuzzle into him, smiling to yourself as he readjusts himself and starts to speak.
- Him giving you massages. They're kind of just excuses for him to touch you for prolonged periods of time, but that's neither here nor there.
- Dancing around to the radio with him.
- Having dinner together. I feel like he'd enjoy cooking for you and though he's initially embarrassed by the idea of eating in front of you, he slowly starts to get used to it.
- Since normal food is kind of hard to come by, he probably sets up a home garden for vegetables and other edible things; not telling you about the specifics until things start actually growing so that he doesn't get your hopes up. The smile on your face when you realize what he's been doing all [this] time makes all of the trouble and the hard work worth while.
- Getting little lectures on all of his plants. Sitting patiently and listening to him explain all of the different conditions and strains of orchids that there are, and how if they get too much water they get root rot and this and that. He probably gets you potted pants more than flowers because it looks less suspicious for a single man in his "30s" to bring home a succulent rather than an entire bouquet.
- Getting brough home little treats: pastries, chocolates, etc. He always double checks to make sure they don't contain any blood, yet there has been a few incidents that you're forced to laugh off in an attempt to make him feel better and end his mortification.
- Edward is the chief hematologist of a major corporation: the man has mad money and he likes to spoil you however he can. He takes note of all of the things you like and talk about so that he can go out and get them for you.; since you're sort of incapable of leaving the house and buying them for yourself.
- He undoubtedly gets you new clothes to wear once the two of you start living together; or goes on a run with you to help you grab your old belongings, but nothing compares to when you first joined him at his home and had to wear his clothes because you didn't have any of your own. It's seared into his memory and it's very erotic for him. Like, he might have to jump you if you wear his clothes after the fact because now you're his and he can finally act on those impulses; instead of repressing them like he was forced to do before then.
- Personalized jewelry.
- Getting asked by him if he looks okay since he cant see himself in any mirrors or other reflection's. He always stays still and cherishes your little touches as you adjust things for him: smiling at you softly as you brush his hair back or do his tie for him.
- Remembering to lock up his house for him. He's notorious for forgetting to do so and getting his place consistently broken into, but he tries to be better about it now that he has you: not being able to afford the risk of someone walking in and finding you.
- You may or may not have a habit of biting him and he may or may not find it really amusing. I mean it's obviously pretty ironic given the situation, but he also likes how not scared of him you are and the teasing playfulness behind the action. It also might turn him on a little but he's not prepared to delve into those confusing feelings right now so lets not talk about it.
- He thinks it's kind of cute when you try to celebrate his birthday with him: smiling at you fondly as you peck him on the cheek and make jokes about him "looking great for his age". He probably calls you his gift whenever you make comments about not really being able to get him one, pulling you in and kissing you on the temple after blowing out his candles.
- He tries to dissuade you from smoking and drinking, wanting you to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible. He'd probably try to cut back on his own smoking as well, muttering shyly about secondhand smoke whenever you ask him about it.
- There's something so ...human about the way you tell jokes: so much so that he can't help but smile and laugh along with you; even though he's a little rusty when it comes to indulging in comedy. You have to grow used to his sense of humor as well: learn to love the dry delivery of his somewhat stunted attempts at being funny. You might not always realize he's trying to joke with you, but you get better with it over time.
- Edward genuinely can't remember what it's like to be human so he occasionally asks you little open ended questions in your more quieter moments together: questioning how your mind or body works, asking about your fears and emotions, etc. In return, you ask him to tell you about vampirism: listening intently to his words, noticing how they always seem to take a sour turn....
- Edward really yearns to be human so he'd probably try to avoid changing you for as long as possible, perhaps even outright refusing to let you go through with it if you expressed interest. It's an emotional thing for him, something he holds back and represses, yet something you can still see affecting him all of the time: the want to be you even when he's so successful and safe being him. It hurts to see, to feel it in his touches and hear it in his voice: the remorse and the envy and the agony that he tries so hard to conceal. There's a lingering melancholy that resides in some of the moments between the two of you: in the way that he comments on little things or tells you that you should do something; noticing right away that it's a sort of attempt to live vicariously through you.
- Speaking of, he enjoys watching you do things that he can't: basking in the sun, eating real food, drinking plain water, etc. There's a hint of sadness there, but you still indulge him, smiling at and kissing him before going through with it.
- Bringing things out of the sunlight to show to him.
- Secret meeting places and hideouts.
- The two of you mostly go out during the day, cruising in his car and making stops in shaded areas. It keeps the two of you safe from everyone's prying eyes and it's nice to get some fresh air after being stuck in the house all night.
- He always tries to refuse your blood: even when you insist that he drinks it because it's safer than the alternative of him going around without getting his fill; and because he's literally risking his own life when fighting to keep you safe. He still hesitates; even as you make jokes about it being humanely sourced, only following through when you tell him that it'll make you more comfortable. He gets used to it but he never gets entitled, and the puppy dog lovey eyes that he gives you whenever you give him a drink makes any pain that might come from it worthwhile. Frankie bitingly calls you his "bloodbag" when he first notices what must be going on, and it truly enrages Edward every time.
- Comforting him after his fights with Frankie.
- You probably have a couple tense moments with his brother; if he even knows you exist at all. There'd be times where he'd show up at the house unannounced and you'd sit in silence, his eyes trained on you in a somewhat predatory fashion. You'd stay stock still until Edward returned home and sorted things out, feeling the tension between the two of you boil and your stomach tie up in knots, not knowing if he'll turn you just because. He tries to be nice but regardless of his temperament and how much you may or may not arguably like him, you still struggle to fully trust him; especially since Edward doesn't seem to as well.
- Honestly though, there's probably even more tension between the two of them now because Frankie would want Edward to finally understand why he did what he did, viewing your predicament as similar to his own. Someone you love is capable of dying and leaving you all alone, don't you get it Edward? It would piss Frankie off to see him still be so conflicted: to see that he still couldn't understand, that he refused to understand. He hates to hear him say that he's not going to change you: that he didn't want to be turned so why would he force it on you? It's like pouring salt in the wound.
- Hiding away when company comes or somebody threatens to stumble across you, sometimes pressed against one another so tightly that he can hear/feel your heart beating a mile a minute. He sets up a certain place in his house where you're meant to go whenever you think someone's coming over, ensuring that no one finds you and keeping you out of harms way.
- Doing your best to protect him from the sun.
- Reassuring him and trying to help him let go of some of his guilt after he comes home from work. He goes into the office everyday and sees the tortured faces of his test subjects right before coming home and seeing your bright and cheery loveliness. It just makes his work even harder: to think that they were once like you and that you could, at some point, be just like them....
- He probably keeps your picture or a note you've written him in his wallet/on his person at all times. Yet the feeling of it seems to burn against his skin whenever he's feeling guilty: a reminder of what he's involved in; a question of how he can love you yet do that to them....
- Considering the fact that you can't really leave his house, there's not a lot of instances where Edward has the chance to be jealous over you. There might be a few fleeting moments of him getting a little annoyed with his younger brother for asking to touch you or things of the like, but it's anyone's guess as to whether that has to do with actual jealousy or just plain protectiveness. That being said: most of Edwards jealousy is retroactive. You'll mention, or maybe even introduce him to, one of your ex's and though he'll try to be normal about it, he'll find himself gritting his teeth and acting a bit passive aggressive. It's those "oh really" and "I bet he is" sort of statements that give him away.
- Edward protects you with his mind rather than his fists. He protects you by putting himself on the line for you, by keeping you out of harms way, by convincing his brother that he's going to change you when you're closer in age, etc. He's incredibly protective but due to his intelligence and careful planning, you don't get to witness the effects of it all too often.
- The two of you don't argue often, but sometimes you manage to tick him off the same way his younger brother does. He wants to be seen as the man of the house: to be respected and thought of as being in charge. When you don't listen to him or undermine him in some way, you hit a bit of a nerve. He might raise his voice if he gets really annoyed, but most of the time, he just acts a bit mockingly: smirking, and scoffing, and looking away/rolling his eyes. Occasionally, he acts impulsively and regrets it after the fact: immediately feeling bad whenever you get upset and walk away, wanting to say something to you but not knowing what.
- Silent treatments and tense houses are commonplace after arguments. Edward stews in silence when he's angry, he keeps his words short and he grits his teeth. You're dating a man with sass so expect to encounter it. If he misses you enough, he'll cut the standoff short. And, even though he's still annoyed, he'll push past it and try to talk things out.
"Sit down," He'll borderline command, wincing slightly at the way it comes out. " ...please? Lets talk."
- Edward tells you that he loves you a lot; especially during difficult times when he wants to reiterate how much you mean to him. He wants you to know that, even though he's going through some stressful things that might have him acting out of character, he still cares for you very deeply.
- Edward wants to find a way to become human for you. He views vampirism as unsustainable, unfulfilling, sometimes even dangerous. He's not happy being what he is and he wont be happy turning you into one either. Not to mention the fact that he wants a family with you....

“Credited simply as "Man with Snake" for his brief appearance in Derek Jarman's glowing, homoerotic re-imagining of Edward II, a golden thong- and crown-clad Clarke performs a languid dance with a snake coiled above his shoulders and— only five minutes into the film— becomes an iconic figure of New Queer Cinema. It's a powerful moment that invites the audience to watch Edward's diversions through an explicitly gay gaze. He's probably less of a set character than he is a symbol of desire and danger entwining, but I'd still like to plead his case. (Cont. Below the cut)
Philip II, The Lion in Winter (1968) Portrayed by: Timothy Dalton
“I will forever and always have a crush on Timothy Dalton on this movie. Philip is definitely a side character in it, for sure, but it's still a great performance (especially considering it was Dalton's film debut!) and he's also so cute.”
Additional Propaganda Under the Cut
Additional Propaganda
For Man With Snake:
"Jarman counters the trope of homosexual theft visually with the triumphant figure of Man with Snake. The Dantesque merging of snake and thief is replaced by an erotic dance in which the gilded youth raises his phallic partner above his head and seductively kisses it on the mouth [...] Jarman clears away all overdetermined theological meanings to revel in the purely aesthetic impact of the phallic dancer. All the ghosts from Dante’s snakepit are conjured away in the film and replaced with the solid presence of a single gorgeously spotlit male body." (from James Miller, ‘Man with Snake: Dante in Derek Jarman’s Edward II’, in Metamorphosing Dante: Appropriations, Manipulations, and Re-writings in the Twentieth and Twenty-First Centuries)
TLDR, iconic hot gay snake man. Fun fact, the snake's name is Oscar! (As in Wilde?)”
For Philip II:
“I confess that I haven't actually watched The Lion in Winter, but I don't have to recognize that young Timmy Dalton is a total babe in it. Those eyes! That jawline! Real royals *wish* they were this hot.”

I love this little bonus of James and Jack's relationship: a chance to piss their "families" off 😉
Just imagine that somehow Jack and his people meet Lawrence Norrington, Edward Teague and Fitzy Dalton III again. Imagine that these three scumbags want another war or something something and Jack says "Yeah, you can kill each other, why not. But, you see, it's not my and my love's business anymore, so...".
Teague is like "Your what... LOVE?!". Jack is like "Oh, so you haven't heard! Pardon...", he shouts "Luuuuuuuv! Luv, come here, please!". And then here he comes: so handsome, so charming and so devastatingly piratey His Sarcasmness James Norrington 😎
Lawrence, Fitzy & Teague: *excuse me while I pick up my jaw from the floor*
Yeah, James Fabulous Norrington comes, puts his arm around Jack's shoulder, smiles lovingly. And when "finally notices" who is there with Jack, he smiles like a shark and says like everything is normal "Oh! Hello, father. Hello, cousin. And good day, Mr Teague... or should I say my future father-in-law?".
Norringtons-Daltons vs Teague. So many years. Such archenemies! And now THIS?! Their boys?! How is this even possible! They SHOULD FIGHT against each other, they WERE TAUGHT to hate each other, what the hell... what is that, fucking Romeo & Juliet in the Caribbean?!?! (let's add their queerphobia).
Oh, to see it! To see their faces! I'm wondering... would they be more pale or red? 😆

[not a request] just imagine edward dalton getting a s/o that actually wants to become vampire but for the longest time is unable to due to some genetic abnormality. and as he tries to find a way to become human she looks for a way to become a vampire. omg the juicy juicy drama...btw do you think he would just abandon a s/o like that?
Definitely juicy lol.
I don't think Edward would abandon his s/o, not until she actually becomes a vampire or until her efforts to be turned take a more obsessive or dangerous turn. I think he'd really struggle with the decision but he'd ultimately have to leave for his own peace of mind: i.e. not constantly worrying about someone who keeps purposefully putting themselves in danger, or feeling the need to save someone who doesn't want to be saved.
I think if his s/o actually managed to turn themselves, it would probably lead to one of those nasty breakups that end up getting resolved years down the line (lovers to enemies to lovers again type beat). He hates his vampirism so much that I think he'd see it as a slap in the face for his s/o to choose to be turned, and I think his s/o wouldn't be able to see his side of things so they'd ultimately part ways. He'd regret it pretty quickly, once the anger dies down, but he'd reason with himself that the two of them were just too different to stay together: that things would never work out between them because they just wanted such different things.

**Spoilers: The Hourglass Throne (+ the series thus far)**
So with Lord Tower gone and his seat vacant, there's a bit of a void in power. Can you imagine if his son, Dalton, comes back to try to fill it. If he has Arcana heir potential? He's not going to let his father's business and assets just sit there either, is he?
Did he care about his father? How is he as a person, now? He probably has a grudge against Rune and Brand. Especially Brand, who beat tf out of him and permanently damaged his face. Is he going to have an opinion about his father "going soft" or something in recent years? That the Tower admitted to feeling like a father to Rune and Brand? And to feeling that their [Sun Court adopted] kids were his grandchildren? He was making macaroni noodle art with Corbie, even.
Dalton's father, Arcana Lord Tower of the Dagger Throne, the ruthless interrogator and magnate? Macaroni art?
KD Edwards mentioned that Dalton was going to be a part of the series in the future. And I can see him as a potential problem.
Oh, the possible painful delicious conflict to come~
#the tarot sequence#the tarot sequence spoilers#rune saint john#brandon saint john#lord tower#okv#KD Edwards releasing the first scene of Misfits Caravan this week has me all keyed up again#me standing in an empty room rambling theories to myself#I know Dalton has sister but I think he's the eldest?

As everyone gathered to celebrate Emmanuel Edwards' birthday, Felicia Morris was too enamored with the toy she found in the backyard of the Founders' House to join the sims inside the house.
"The kids are growing up so fast… Alex is almost a man and I can't even imagine watching my Felicia grow up… I think to me she will forever be my baby."
"I know that feeling, dear Dulce. In a few weeks Emmanuel will go to school. School! He's so grown up… it's a good thing I have Juliette to keep me busy. The house is so quiet without Begonia and Emmanuel."
"Begonia will soon grow too." Dalton Lewis said. "I'm thinking of trying to find somewhere inhabited around Valeree… I'll make sure she has a good man to look after her."
"There's still plenty of time Mr. Lewis, we don't need to be too hasty." Kylie replied. "We'll have Alex's wedding first."
"Wedding? I don't want to get married."
"Of course you do, my son. You say that now because you haven't met anyone who makes your heart race."
"My mother, please…"
"Uncle Henrique, do people change their names when they grow up?"
"No, they change their names when they get married."
"I heard you and mommy Kylie say that Emmanuel is going to change his name on his birthday."
"Oh, that's because I made an unforgivable mistake when he was born, but I'll make it right tonight."

imagine you have your period and Edward dalton notices, how do you think he would react. sorry if i make you feel uncomfortable
I have no decency and also always horny so not a lot makes me uncomfortable 😌
He would definitely notice before you even do. I fully believe that he would catch the influx of hormones and would be very handsy with you. He would be hugging you and nuzzling into your hair, into your throat, and he would be purring at you almost constantly. The second you walk into the room, he's purring and prowling over to you, and at night he curls his body around you like an oversized cat.
Then you wake up with a start one day, disoriented and confused over what woke you in the first place, and it doesn’t take you long to figure out what it was. Edward was nestled between your spread thighs, your panties thrown to the floor with the blankets, and he was busy licking and suckling at you like a man starved.
Which he kinda is.
He would have your legs spread wide open, nearly pinning them open to the bed, and his expression is one of fierce concentration and pure bliss. His tongue his lapping through your slick folds, suckling at your clit briefly in a way that made your entire body shudder, and then he’s licking into your aching hole. You shriek when you blearily make out the faint smear of red on his lips and you instinctively try to snap your legs close while your brain screams at you to pull him closer and push him away.
The sudden snarl he lets out when you try to pull away is animalistic and it makes you cry out softly at the vibrations against your sensitive flesh. He opens those eerily bright eyes that glow in the dim light of the bedroom and he peers up at you from between your thighs. The message was as clear as the tongue fucking into you. Edward would spend the next few hours licking at you. Bringing you to multiple orgasms until you are a limp teary-eyed mess and he wouldn’t stop.
The taste of you mingled with your blood is like an aphrodisiac and he won’t stop until he’s had his fill.

An Analysis Of Former ROH Champions in regards to likelihood of fighting Jericho
Low Ki- Probably Not (does about one match a month, usually for HOG, last match was Oct 29)
Xavier- Definitely Not (is dead)
Samoa Joe- Likely, but not on Nov 2 (already is in AEW, but booked to fight Brian Cage)
Austin Aries- Probably Not (has not wrestled since March and if AEW isn't touching Marty Scull with a ten-foot pole, they're probably not touching him)
CM Punk- This is fuckin iffy, man (on the one hand, rumors say he's on his way out of AEW. On the other hand, if he was ever going to come back, 17 days before a PPV is the time to do it)
James Gibson- Willing To Bet Not (working for the WWE and also hasn't wrestled since 2015)
Bryan Danielson- No (already did)
Homicide- Very likely (Besties with Eddie Kingston and Wheeler Yuta already, which means worsties with Jericho by default)
Takeshi Morishima- Willing To Bet Not (has been retired for like 7 years)
Nigel McGuinness- No (both retired and doing commentary for WWE)
Jerry Lynn- Probably not (officially retired in 2013, but he does work for AEW, so you never know)
Tyler Black- If he did, I'd shit myself (didn't know this was Seth Rollins until I checked. Honestly, he's probably on the way to Saudi Arabia by now)
Roderick Strong- Probably not (due to being on NXT)
Eddie Edwards- Likely not (seems to be pretty heavy into TNA, but he is buddies with Bryan, who is enemies with Jericho)
Davey Richards- Not likely at all (heavy into the indies and wanted to retire 12 years ago)
Kevin Steen- I truly can't imagine (Has been Kevin Owens in the WWE for a good while)
Jay Briscoe- No (This is a manifestation. I do not want him in AEW)
Adam Cole- Oh I hope I Hope (it's been 4 months since he last wrestled due to injury, but this would be a FANTASTIC way to return)
Michael Elgin- Not Likely (Got arrested in July. Tony would be a FOOL to bring him in)
Jay Lethal- Eventually, but not Nov 2 (Is booked to fight Darby Allin)
Kyle O'Reilly- He's Gotta Come Back Eventually (6 days away from 5 months since he's wrestled, but is still in AEW)
Christopher Daniels- Honestly Pretty Likely (wrestles semi-frequently, just not in AEW. But he definitely could)
Cody- No, but if he does, I'd freak (Isn't even wrestling in the company he works for due to a broken tit)
Dalton Castle- No (already did)
Matt Taven- Probably (has done two episodes of Rampage and if the belt match isn't main event, it's almost definitely him)
Rush- Odds are good (I mean, not great odds cause he doesn't seem super over yet, but I wouldn't be surprised)
PCO- Really doubtful (First off, glad to see he's still going strong. I knew him as a Mountie back in 93. But he's pretty stuck into Impact)
Bandido- No (already did)
Jonathan Gresham- No, but only for booking reasons (no reason he can't, but his last AEW/ROH match was him losing the belt)
Claudio Castagnoli- Iffy (on the one hand, their gangs have been feuding since May, on the other hand, he's mighty pissed to lose the belt)
Nov 2 predictions in order of likelihood: Matt Taven, Rush, Homicide, Christopher Daniels, Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly
#AEW#i like over-analysing it's fun#plus I don't really know ROH and it was nice to look everyone up

Back to the Future (DS Fic Part 1)
Missing DS nights so here’s a fic (EdwardxMC)
BIG BIG THANK YOU to my dear friend @nikechoicess on instagram. Her Sam Dalton x Edward Mortemer edit inspired me to write this. Since this is an Edward fic, aye, Captain looks like this hot man below -- look down! Hehe
Credits to Pixelberry for the characters.
What awaits on the masquerade?
"Yes, director. I promise."
Dan rolls her eyes as she shoves her gadget back into her pouch, letting out a heavy sigh upon talking to her boss through the phone. After years of perseverance, Dan had finally worked her way to the lead woman role in one of the most-awaited films of the year, directed by her new boss, none other than the famous Jolly Rogers. How ironic it is, though. She had been chosen to play the role of a pirate lass and she was supposed to feel cheery for it. But she isn't, and she knows she never will. The filming is in the process, but the entire crew took a break in celebration of the director's birthday — a fancy masquerade ball. On a damn, fancy ship. And Dan hates it. Ever since she and Robert tried to go back to the past — and failed, she had given up her hopes to see her Captain. The compass never worked again, and they had to face legal charges for stealing a museum artifact. It took her years to move on, and Robert as well, the two deciding to part ways. She had rebranded when she became one of the most well-known actresses in her home country, popular by the name Dan Salazar. For only her greatest love, Captain Mortemer, can address her as Miss Kroskovski — the woman she was when their paths had crossed. Since then, she had never been on ships, on the seas, and anywhere that'll remind her of the great pirate captain, the only man she ever loved. It is disappointing that they came from two different centuries;
The love the they shared was eternal.
Though despite doing her mightiest not to be on ships, she needed to, for the sake of her job. "Just one hour, Dan. One hour on that stupid masquerade ball," she mumbles to herself. She sighs, standing in front of her reflection in the mirror, noticing how extravagant her gown is. If only it was pink, then maybe she would be spending the night sobbing as she remembers her night with Edward by the governor's balcony. If only the Captain knew how dashing he looked that evening. Danaya had thought she would take his breath away with her pink-coloured gown — but he took hers, instead. "Chop chop," she mumbles, bolting out of her enormous cabin, making her way to the grandest part of the ship — the gold-filled hall reserved for royals. From golden decorations to expensive marble floorings, Dan couldn't help but admire the massive place, where the celebration is about to start. People wore masks and she did, too, yet still looking breathtaking even with a silver mask straining her famous identity. "Oh!" "Apologies, miss!" Surprised by how little the voice had sounded, Dan turns in a swift motion, only to face young boy. He stands there, the horror on his face visible as he stares at Dan's juice-spilled dress. "It's okay," she smiles. "You shouldn't be wandering here all alone. Where are your parents?" "I am only here with my father," he answers with a sad tone. "My mama is...gone." "I am so sorry," she says, dropping to her knees to offer the boy a warm embrace, and he eagerly snuggles in her arms. She feels a pinch on her heart, but shudders a certain painful thought away as she feels the threat of tears. No crying tonight, Dan, she tells herself. Deep down she would’ve slapped herself for getting too emotional twenty minutes within arriving.
“Do you want me to help you look for your dad?”
What a useless father, she thought. If it were Edward...
She stiffens at the thought. She knew it; she shouldn’t have been here at all. Ships, seas and ball gowns just remind her of her painful past. I must leave as soon as possible, she mumbles to herself.
Dan cocks an eyebrow upon noticing that the little boy wasn’t responding in any way, and instead, eyeing her. “You’re...I, no.”
“Little man. Are you alright? Let’s go get you to your dad?”
“Thank you, miss. But I know where to find my papa.”
“You’re sure?”
“Aye, I mean, yes.”
For a few seconds, the young actress stood stunned upon hearing his words. Do people even use ayes these days? It reminded her of her home back in the past; Poseidon’s Revenge. Though, the ship where they’re at is quite similar to the pirate captain’s ship...or maybe she was just getting nostalgia.
“I need to go.”
Before Dan could even respond, the boy had bolted away from her touch, making his way towards the deck. Bothered, she treads to door leading to where the boy had gone — only to find herself alone on the enormous, sophisticated ship deck.
Tenderly, she treads towards the steel, white-painted railings, the cool breeze of the sea winds sending traces to her skin. It took her this long to admit to herself how much she’s been missing the life she had spent with Edward, and she still isn’t prepared to move on with her new life.
Other than the nostalgia the night brings, the ship deck reminded her of her home — it looked so similar with the Captain’s ship, only that this one’s modern-looking. And of course, made of heavy steel, and not wood.
Closing her eyes shut, Dan reminisces, drinking in memories of the past.
The wind catches the young woman’s hair. It smells of salt, and of freedom.
The ship crests a swell, and Edward comes up behind her, his strong and calloused hands sneaking their way onto her waist.
A small smile creeps on the corner of Danaya’s lips as the Captain nuzzles his chin against her neck.
“This is the life I always imagined. You, me...and the open sea,” he says, voice still groggy as the pirate captain had just awoke.
“I always imagined us captaining a ship together. And here you are, making all my dreams come true.”
“After you helped me believe in my dreams again? ‘Tis the least I can do.”
Danaya lets out a chuckle, and in a swift motion, escapes from Edward’s touch. She runs to his cabin, and the Captain follows, a smirk forming on her mouth as she throws her belt onto the table, Charlie’s pistol thumping on the wood.
“I want to hear you say it,” she smiles.
“Miss Kroskovski?”
“Not that.”
He steps closer, lowering his voice to a rumbling growl that sends shivers down her spine. “Danaya.”
“Sorry, that’s not what I’m looking for, either.”
She dances back out of his reach, but he lunges and captures her, dragging Danaya to his strong chest as he twirls her around. The two share a knowing smile — the most sincere. Edward chuckles.
“My captain.”
“Now that’s more like it.”
He’s still smiling as he leans in to kiss her...
Dan sucks in a sharp breath as she halts her memories from flooding her mind, especially a memory she had been avoiding to remember — so praise God for she just saw a stranger walk towards her.
Dan shoots the man a knowing look. The who-the-hell-are-you look.
He was quick to decipher. “Apologies. I did not mean to disturb.”
“Fine, then.”
“I suppose you don’t like it down there?”
“I don’t. It suffocates me.”
“Aye, me too.”
She pins her gaze to the sea, hands cold as she recognizes whose voice it was.
“I was looking for my son,” he says.
Oh, false alarm — she says at the back of her mind.
“I talked to him earlier. Why do you let your son roam around a massive ship? He could get lost.”
“Don’t worry,” the man chuckles. “He knows the ship as much as I do.”
Dan was so sure there was something about him. The accent, the voice, the frame of his body — though it was quite difficult to get a glimpse of what he looks like, for the night was shadowy and he also wore a mask. But she can see how tall he was — he was as tall as Edward.
She somehow knew this man.
Dan. Get yourself together...
“How does he knows this ship so well, then?”
“He lives here.”
“What?”
The stranger joins Dan by the railings. He lets out a huge sigh as he places his palms on the steel, drinking in the dark view of the sea.
“I’m Captain of this ship. I own this ship.”
“You’re what? Wait, I--”
“Don’t worry. A friend of mine is in charge at the moment,” he cuts her with a chuckle. “Jolly Rogers wanted my ship so badly.”
Dan smiles, ever so softly — probably the realest she’s ever done.
He was a Captain, too.
“What’s with the smile?”
“Oh uh, nothing. I just remembered something. Someone, rather...”
“Care to elaborate?”
“Nope.”
“‘Tis wise of you to do so,” he says, eyes never leaving the sea view.
Silence fills the place, and the two hear none but the wind’s breeze, the calming sound of the waves, and the cheers of the people below as they party.
The light mood shifts as Dan realizes how close they are. She’s pulled in by the intensity of the man’s gaze, and though hidden with a golden mask, she notices his hazelnut-brown eyes, twinkling in the moonlight.
It was then, when she was able to see that his hair was sleek and brown, and that his chiseled body was embraced by a fancy suit — his sophisticated golden tie seemed to glow in the night.
Like the man of her dreams, the stranger had a light, unshaven beard — everything about him reminding her of Edward, except for the hair. But the eyes speak the way her Captain does...
And the eyes looked exactly like his.
“Apologies. I haven’t introduced myself yet, Miss...?”
“Dan. Dan Salazar.”
“‘Tis an honor meeting you, Miss Salazar.”
Miss Salazar.
Unknowingly, her breathing had begun to grow ragged, heart thumping a hundred times faster as her thoughts pile up inside her head. She can almost feel herself throw up.
“Allow me to introduce myself. I am--”
“Papa!”
She catches her breath as the stranger’s son run quickly towards his father, snuggling in his embrace. He messes the young boy’s hair, and the two share a rich laugh, the man’s arms still wrapped around his son.
“Come on now! We’re supposed to be having fencing lessons...”
“Aye, you’re right. But--”
“I don’t want to play with Aunt Ginny! She’s dangerous!”
Dan slams her palm onto her head, trying to absorb the little boy’s words.
“I will--”
“Uncle Oliver is busy, and so is Aunt Charlie...”
“Eddie, listen to papa.”
Dan shivers. “Eddie?”
The man shift his position, both him and his son facing a stunned Dan Salazar — or should I say, Danaya Kroskovski?
“Someone explain what’s going on, I, no...this can’t be.”
“Are you alright, Miss Salazar?”
“No! I--”
“What’s going on, love?” shouts a very familiar voice from the other side of the deck.
Dan Salazar turns to the side, catching a glimpse of a woman figure Dan would recognize in a heartbeat — Charlie freaking Smith.
Completely losing her mind, Dan mumbles.
Heaven forbid.

RTARL’s 2020 NFL Season Week 6 Extravapalooza
This week’s slate of early games....is not good. If ever there were a day to forgo NFL football and attend to some neglected tasks around the house, catch up on some paperwork for the office, or even spend some time with family, today is that day. OR maybe just drink more than usual to make the football appear more attractive than it is. Both paths are healthy and good.
My picks are in BOLD, and the lines come to us courtesy of our friends at Vegas Insider. I use the “VI Consensus” line, which is the line that occurs most frequently across Vegas Insider’s list of sportsbooks. Your sportsbook of choice may offer a different number, and if you’d like my opinion on said number A) you are insane, and B) leave a comment below and I’ll try to answer at some point before things kickoff today.
EARLY GAMES
Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans (-3.5)
Like everyone else, I was GREATLY amused by Derrick Henry leaving a chalk outline of Josh Norman on the field via stiffarm in the Titans’ win over Buffalo on Tuesday. That said, Derrick Henry isn’t having a great season thus far. He’s averaging a career-low 3.7 yards per carry (down from 5.1 last year and 4.9 the year prior). His drop in efficiency has been masked by an increase in attempts (25 per game this year, 20 per game last year). His longest run so far this season is a measly 16 yards. Is he already wearing down? Is this just small sample noise? I dunno, but I don’t feel super great about his prospects today despite the great matchup, considering that he just had 20 touches against the Bills on Tuesday night.
Cincinnati Bengals at Indianapolis Colts (-7.5)
I really don’t have much to say about this game. I’m rooting for Joe Burrow like always, but this Indy defense is nasty and he’s still a rookie. Could be a rough one for him, but don’t worry I still think he’s the coolest and wish more than anything that he’d start smoking cigarettes on the sideline.
Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings (-4)
We’re long past the point where I need to accept that my faith in the Falcons was misguided, and yet here I am, picking them to cover once more. Gotta capitalize on that dead Dan Quinn bounce, baby! At least this time they’re squaring off against another squad of top-shelf bed-shitters in the Minnesota Vikings. Each of these teams have already sustained multiple heartbreaking losses already this season, with the Vikings somehow picking up two one-point Ls in their last three games. I’m genuinely impressed by the ability of these franchises to rip the hearts out of their own fanbases. Even when they blow games in ways they’ve blown them many times before, they still somehow manage to make it feel fresh. That’s not easy.
Denver Broncos at New England Patriots (-8)
As of now it looks like Denver QB Drew Lock will be back for this game, which is nice. He’s going to be without RB Melvin Gordon and TE Noah Fant, which isn’t so nice. After what felt like an eternity, but was really only one game, New England is getting QB Cam Newton back after his asymptomatic bout with COVID-19. Hallelujah!
Honestly, I don’t have a clue what to expect in this game. The Broncos haven’t played since October 1st, and the Patriots have had their facilities closed multiple times over the last couple of weeks, so practice has been sparse. I’m gonna go ahead and assume this one will be kind of ugly for both teams and I’m tempted to take the eight points. That said, I think Denver is really going to struggle to score, so fuck it I’ll make the homer pick.
Washington Football Team at New York Giants (-2.5)
Baltimore Ravens (-9.5) at Philadelphia Eagles
Eagles QB Carson Wentz is a broken man, his offensive line is in shambles, his favorite target (TE Zach Ertz) is either completely washed or isn’t trying due to contractual unhappiness, his #1 WR today is a 2019 6th round pick named Travis Fulghum, and he gets to face a Ravens D that ranks in the top 5 in EPA (Expected Points Added) against both the pass and the run and that blitzes at the second highest rate in the league. He’s gonna have a bad time. Luckily, fans will be allowed inside Philadelphia’s stadium for the first time this season, so he’ll at least have kind words of support from the stands to keep him going.
Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers (-3.5)
This is a tough matchup for Browns QB Baker Mayfield. He’s struggled with accuracy all season, and I can’t imagine having injured ribs is going to help him zip the ball where he wants to, especially after he gets hit a few times by the very good Pittsburgh pass-rushers. My #1 hope for this game is a bench-clearing brawl, preferably after Myles Garrett levels Ben Roethlisberger and then taunts the hell out of him.
Chicago Bears at Carolina Panthers (-1)
It’s time for me to admit that I was wrong in my belittling of Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater and the rest of the Carolina offense. They’ve been sharp as hell, and there’s been hardly any drop-off at all going from injured All-Pro RB Christian McCaffery to journeyman backup Mike Davis. Add WR Robby Anderson to the growing list of players who have IMMEDIATELY flourished after escaping the vortex of incompetence constantly swirling around incredible dipshit Adam Gase.
Detroit Lions (-3) at Jacksonville Jaguars
BIG CAT BATTLE! In a fight between Lions and Jaguars, it really comes down to terrain. Lions are bigger and stronger, and if this confrontation were out in the grasslands they’d have a decided edge. However, this contest takes place on the turf of the Jaguars, where they’ll be able to use their agility and climbing skills to their advantage.
LATE GAMES
New York Jets at Miami Dolphins (-9.5)
I’d like to think a thorough ass-kicking by Miami here would rid the Jets players of Adam Gase once and for all, but expecting a logical move from an unqualified failson is probably unwise. I’m enjoying what the Dolphins are putting together under Brian Flores, the first good Bill Belichick disciple.
Green Bay Packers (-1) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Most of the focus on this game has been on the QB matchup, which is understandable. The fact that each of these guys is welcoming back an All-Pro WR (Davante Adams for GB, Chris Godwin for TB) does make it extra spicy. But, I think the deciding factor here is gonna be defense. This is bad for the Packers, because outside of DB Jaire Alexander, theirs has sucked so far. Meanwhile, the Bucs come in at #2 overall on Football Outsiders Defensive Efficiency Rankings, where they’re equally effective against the run or the pass.
SNF: Los Angeles Rams (-3) at San Francisco 49ers
Niners QB Jimmy Garoppolo looked horrific last week in his return from an ankle injury. He was clearly not close to 100%, and despite positive practice reports this week on his injury status I can’t buy in until I actually see him able to step into his throws. I was actually surprised to see the O/U on this one at 51.5, as it feels like a low-scoring game to me, a man who definitely knows what he’s talking about.
MNF (Early): Kansas City Chiefs (-4.5) at Buffalo Bills
I’m furious with Kansas City for bringing in RB Le’Veon Bell to siphon touches away from my beloved Clyde Edwards-Helaire. IT’S NOT HIS FAULT THE O-LINE CAN’T RUN BLOCK WORTH A DAMN! Anyway, due to COVID-19 protocols, Bell won’t be suiting up for this one, so here’s to CEH ending his time as the primary back in a blaze of statistical glory. These teams are each coming off of bad losses, so I expect them to come out guns-a-blazin’. The Bills are fun as hell, but I can’t take them in a shootout against K.C. just yet.
MNF (Late): Arizona Cardinals (-1) at Dallas Cowboys
Dak Prescott’s gruesome injury was a huge bummer, even if you’re like most right-thinking people and viscerally dislike the Cowboys. I hope he recovers and eventually ends up with the huge pile of cash he was headed for prior to his lower leg turning into a Rice Krispies Treat. As far as backup QBs go, Andy Dalton isn’t terrible, but you know what is? The Dallas defense. I don’t think they can make enough stops to keep the Cowboys in this one, even if the offense still looks decent.

Author’s note: I wrote this a long time ago but I’m posting all my fics on my writing blog. I explain more about the Blood Donors concept in the a/n on A03 if anyone’s interested, click the link above.
Summary:
Anita, a human that Edward has been harboring in his house for years, struggles with the isolation of living as a fugitive in a world full of vampires. With the threat of being reduced to nothing but a Blood Donor looming just outside the walls of Edward's house, she must decide whether it is time to end it all or find a way to deal with the desolation.
But is the dangerous game she finds herself playing with Frankie Dalton, Edward's human-hunting brother, the best solution to her loneliness?
Set pre-Daybreakers.
Next: honesty hour
"Goddamn it, Frankie, I have until sundown to get some sleep before a shit load of work tomorrow – I'm not having this conversation again; it's done!"
A beat of silence follows the words as the dismissal rings heavy in the air and a resounding snarl tears through the tension. Anita grimaces at the sound of footsteps up the stairs and tries to press herself back against the hinged door, into nonexistence – a thin hand clawing at the threshold as she waits with bated breath.
No matter how many arguments she heedfully witnesses, how many times Edward tells her that she is safe after Frankie blows in and out of their lives over and over again, how many times she manages to make it just one more day without being caught and forced as a Blood Donor: the dread that makes her stomach clench in an almost paralyzing sort of fear is a constant reminder that she is never safe.
The comfort of safety is not a luxury she can afford – not anymore.
The years spent hiding with a decreasing amount of fellow human who had refused vampirism had not been wasted with pointless dreams of a secure future. Those days were harsh, dirty, and cruel – but in each other there was at least a small repose of normalcy. Humans living (well surviving, because what they had been doing was not actually living) with other humans.
A human living with one (sometimes two, she remembers with a tingle up her spine) vampires, though.
She wants to laugh at the thought of such an illusion as safety for someone in her position, but seeing as it's the one thing standing between her and becoming a daily juice box, she refrains. That is if she could remember how to laugh; the muscles surrounding her mouth are usually only ever exercised into a frown and she imagines that the act of straining them upwards might be foreign and difficult.
Her attempt at becoming a chameleon is at once deemed futile under the fierce gaze of Frankie Dalton as he passes in the hall. He's only just gotten back from his most recent tour of duty and as per usual he is staying at Edward's during his break, unable to afford an apartment he would scarcely ever use.
The first few days of his return are always the worst; Edward almost never remembers the day of Frankie's arrival and the latter's mood turns sour the moment he comes home to see his welcome party consists of one: a somewhat interested (and punctual; she doesn't have much to look forward to these days and even his return on the calendar is something) Anita holding a propped open book in one hand and the world's tiniest banner reading Welcome home, asshole! in her other as she lounges comfortably on a sofa in the office room, ready to leap to her crawl space at a moment's notice.
Just as she thinks that maybe, just maybe this time he will continue to his seldom-occupied bedroom and ignore her, he stops walking and looks her down as if she is a lower species; a turkey attending the Thanksgiving dinner. There is distaste clear in his eyes, rage too, and something even darker that she recognizes somewhere in the back of her mind but does not want to dwell upon.
Anita glowers bitterly up at him, willing him to feel her disgust at him, too, for him to know that this isn't exactly the ideal living situation for her either. A small part of her feels ashamed for those sort of thoughts – the last thing she wants Edward to think she is is ungrateful. She owes him her life, however useless it may be now.
Once, a couple years back, when on a supply raid with her group she had been wounded by a lone poor, starving vampire who had found them and attacked. Her party had left her there, assuming her to be dead, so it was not abandonment – not really, she would have done the same.
Self-hatred burns her insides with the knowledge that this new world – one with the rule of vampires and the hunt of humans like livestock – has charred her soul black to the core, a sense of meaningless survival (what is the point to her life?) taking control on instinct so that she has to fight every day to remember what humanity truly means.
But with an abundance of luck and patience on Edward's part, he had found her bleeding out (thankfully not infected; she'd rather die) and managed to get them both back to his place to nurse her back to health. Her constant attempts at his life or escaping had slowed things down considerably, but she eventually healed and came to the hard realization that her pack was gone. She knew by then they would be cities away and that she was alone. It was with little hesitance that Anita had accepted Edward's offer of shelter and food. Protection, too, but that was taken lightly.
She's never been one to depend on others; she likes to pull her own weight, and her current title of hidden house guest makes her restless. When she had first began living with Edward, she had offered him her blood – not straight from her veins, obviously, but with the proper equipment she would have given him enough, regularly but not nearly as much as she'd have to if she became a Blood Donor, to cushion the blow of his blood-bill. But he had refused; said he didn't drink human, and it would have been a lie to say she was too disappointed. The same offer was never given to Frankie – probably because she knows now, and knew then, that he would not have refused.
"Well, if it isn't the root of the problem." Frankie grinds out, his jaw clenched as he takes a step towards her. "Tell me – do you think Ed sees your face on the humans at his company or just dollar signs?"
She blinks indifferently, keeping her silence. They've danced to this song before, and honestly, she's grown too phlegmatic to be baited so easily.
"Probably not the money." He adds, his voice hard. "He pities you humans too much for his own good. And you in particular, doesn't he?" He chuckles darkly and points at her with his index finger. "No, you're his favorite little stray kitten – here to stay."
At his sneering words she looks back at the small opening across the small office that leads to the crawl space she spends her time in when the sun falls and darkness resumes – a pathetic excuse for living quarters but she is none the wiser, having been in worse conditions while on the streets. At least she has the sleeping bag to herself now.
She is allowed out during the day or when Edward is home and does not have company, but rarely downstairs and always, always she must be quiet (so quiet it is like she is not even there) in case the neighbors can hear. He cooks her food mostly (something she wishes she could do for herself; Edward is an appallingly bad chef) and she is permitted to have a shower every few days even though she has to use his toiletries. She does not mind much, though – things like that have not been a problem for her in a good long while.
It is not that Edward wants to keep her on a short leash so much as he is very meticulous in ensuring that she remains hidden, for his sake and hers. Every single thing is planned and routine; if he is to buy too much extra food or household necessities or if his guest notice that he seems to be housing three occupants, it might raise unwanted suspicion that would be better to avoid entirely. Paranoid, maybe, but it works. And although she will never dare to complain, living in such circumstances is taking the wear and tear out of her.
While food comes easier now than what she has been used to (having been malnourished since she was barely a teen) she is still unhealthy; her skin too pale from the lack of sunlight and the natural growth of her body stinted by the crawl space, making her appear pinched, and so much smaller than she should, too emaciated and frail to the point where she wants to avoid mirrors at all cost on some days. The perpetual dark rims under her grey eyes from many sleepless nights give her the appearance of a ghost, and her hair is almost always in a wild tangle of mousy blonde strands, but sometimes on her more vain days, she manages to run her fingers through it enough to tame the mess. Throughout every thing that has been lost to the war of vampires against humans, vanity seems to trail behind her in a race to catch up; not quite there but never too far behind either.
She looks hollow, dead in the eyes, and it's only fitting, really – she feels the same way.
Anita wishes that she could take pride in her quiet strength – she yearns to think of herself as one of the heroines from the books she reads to assuage her boredom (Edward has books everywhere, scattered in piles in all the nooks and crannies of the house and then some), biding her time before she can join the Revolution with her fellow humans, but honestly, the fear and cowardice that is still present, hidden beneath the bitter sorrow and ferocious contempt, only makes her feel weak. Weak from the tears that wet her pillow at night when she is by herself in the crawl space, holding her arms around her middle as if it will help the sickness, left with nothing but thoughts of death and blood and the unfairness of life.
She misses her family more than she ever thought she would, and it's unbearable because it leaves a gaping, festering hole in her chest that makes her want to lie still until she just stops breathing. At those times, more than usual, it stumps her how anybody could want to live forever. It's a consuming, mindless sort of grief that leaves her breathless and exhausted, hating herself for dwelling on the past when her current standing in the food chain demands all the focus she has.
Anita hates weakness.
And Frankie makes her feel weak.
Especially when he is this close to her, his head tilted down so he can meet her wide eyes, and his body so near her that she can feel the coolness of him. She hates the terror it instills in her at the thought that he can infect her with a smile on his face and her flesh in his teeth if he so desires. And he does desire it – he's told her so, after the two brother's verbal throw down matches over Edward's aiding and abetting a human criminal in his own house, a house that Frankie inhabits ("By knowing and not saying anything it makes me an accomplice, Ed!"). Edward thinks his threats of turning them in are empty ("He won't say anything . . . he owes me." Ed told her once when she had voiced her concerns) and he hasn't yet, however, Anita wouldn't put it past him. She can't turn a corner in a house that Frankie's in without having a threat to turn her thrown in her face.
Even more than that, though, she absolutely despises the other feelings he sparks in her too. The ones that make her flush with heat in her veins and an ache between her thighs from the longing to be close to someone again. Anita despises him for being a selfish monster and she despises him even more when he's not. She despises the salacious want he infixes in her when he glances up with sharp, trained eyes from whatever he is doing to watch her walk back to the office after a shower when she is in only a towel. But more than anything, anything else she despises herself for having allowed him to toy with those feelings periodically over the last four months.
As Frankie stares at her, something akin to understanding glints in his eyes and he takes a quick step in her direction, making her fall back two. After a moment she has enough sense to worry he might have recognized the look in her eyes as more than offense at his words. There is a familiar sort of triumph in his voice as he sneers, "Something bothering you, pet?"
The sound of the taunting sobriquet he had long ago christened her coming from his lips is far too palatable for her to handle so she imagines what the screams of the humans he has hunted and forced into the Blood Revenue Agents hands would sound like instead, so loud and terrible that it can banish those bad, bad feelings that surround her off to another place where things that are wrong go to.
For the moment, it works.
"Yes – you are standing too close," Anita finally murmurs, and something frightening in her roars at the covetous flash in his eyes as they narrow at her, but she silences it by biting her tongue, unable to resist the opportunity to wipe the smirk off of his face. "And I can still smell the blood of my people marring your precious honor, sir."
The corners of his mouth twist down at her mockery and he raises his chin, trying to intimidate her with his authority, but the vampire soldier card no longer makes her shrink in fear as it once did. She has had quite a bit of time in the weeks of Frankie's absence to prepare herself for his overwhelming presence that has always had a different effect on her than Edward's. She will no longer permit herself to be a distraction for him to amuse himself with whenever he likes purely because he can. She is more than his filthy little secret, and certainly better than him.
Her lips thin and she brings herself to full height, which is only a wee few inches shorter than him, but still her neck cranes up slightly to meet his gaze. She has pushed off from the door and he moves backwards to avoid physical contact. The fact that he is the one who falls back weighs heavy on him and his frown deepens in anger.
His relentless harassment over the years has been all too entertaining for him because of the easy prey she has always presented him with. His ability to read her like an open book is almost congenital – Frankie knows Anita to her very core; her thoughts, her fears, her dreams, he knows exactly what to do to provoke her. He can send her into a furious rage with a few casual words or tear her apart by a single deliberate look. But now the game has changed. She has surprised him with this sign of defiance; this charge of offensive play, and he does not know how to react to it.
A small thrill shoots through her from his falter, and the courage it gives her comes out in the smooth words she spits into his face, "Something bothering you, Frankie?"
She can almost taste victory in her mouth when his ochroid eyes flash and he quickly leans into her, a smirk curling onto his face, making her stumble back away from him and warily glance at the protruding fangs that press into his pale lower lip. He smiles widely to show her his teeth more clearly; a wolf's grin, and watches her clenched jaw tremble beneath the unspoken threat, eyes dancing and alight with the prospect of a challenge.
"Careful now, pet, wouldn't want to cross lines you can't come back from, would you?" He cautions.
The air feels weighted with the tension, as if electricity is crackling against her skin, sending sparks through her nervous system but she holds her ground and straightens. The warning is obvious in his voice; he wants her to know that he is in control. She hates that.
He is so close she can feel his breath fanning her face, and although it makes hers come in faster than she would care to admit, Anita resists the urge to swivel her head to the side. "Fuck your lines."
The curse word feels strange on her tongue, although she is pleasantly surprised at the evenness of her tone, and she enjoys his confounded look at her having taken a page from his book – he frequently uses the crude terms, and at least one adolescent innocent tendency has always made her wince when he casually refers to them – but it had sounded sharp and primitive and she is impressed by herself. She instantly realizes that she likes how fierce it makes her feel.
"Ooh, such language, Nita. Wouldn't expect it from you." He grins at her, his tongue grazing briefly over one fang, so quickly that she barely notices it with a sweeping sensation sent straight to her toes, and continues, "And while I appreciate that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, maybe you should mind your manners for now. After all, pets who misbehave must be . . . castigated."
Her knees quake, nearly giving out at his tone: almost a teasing threat, and that realization makes her stomach flutter in equal parts fright and excitement. She inhales deeply, pulling down the frayed sleeves of her sweater past her fingers.
Frankie's smile fades as his mouth contorts into a thoughtful expression and his eyes size her up. The hairs on the back of her neck stand up, but she is not sure if it is because of the dread in her stomach or the heat that flames in her cheeks and along her ears when he steps forward with his arms extended out on either side of her head, efficiently trapping her between the door and his body. He pushes a strand of hair from her darting eyes with a gentle motion; a mocked sign of affection, and lets the tip of his finger rest on her temple.
He is pushing her, stretching their interaction like a rubber band, testing to see how far he can go before she breaks. He doesn't have to push far this time – a simple movement; he bites gently and deliberately into his lower lip and his eyes drop to her mouth – and then she is shoving his arms away scathingly, hitting him with her fist as she turns to her crawl space.
Frankie catches her readily around her waist and flings her back against a wall, grabbing her wrists in his hands when she tries to struggle and pinning them above her head. His face is close enough to hers that she can clearly see the smile lines in his right cheek when the corner of his lip quirks up in that crooked grin that makes her loathe these moments with him as much as she secretly looks forward to them, although, she will never admit the hold he has on her; a strong fist around her rotting heart, forcing it to pulsate when the beats begin to degenerate.
Sometimes she wishes he would just let her die.
He thrusts a knee between her legs, pressing his body onto hers, and she can't breathe – she can't even muster the energy to ignore the way her body responds to the familiar feeling of him against her; the way her hips cant upwards into him, all but unwillingly.
And sometimes she wants nothing more than this.
"Fuck you." Anita seethes, because he looks so smug, like such a smug bastard that her blood practically boils and she feels alive.
"Hm, fuck me?" Frankie muses. "You're being rather straightforward today."
"Well, you know what they say." She returns with a sharp grin on her face that she saves just for him. "Bold is beautif – oh!"
He had ducked down into her neck, his mouth opened wide, and for only a moment she considers that he is finally making good on his threat to tear into her jugular vein, but it's not his teeth. It's his tongue, and she thinks that might be worse. He's kissing the base of her throat, ravaging the skin there (because Anita will shit a brick if she ever sees Frankie being tentative in his actions), and it almost hurts; she knows there will be a bruise there in a few hours.
There always is.
"Wait." She protests wearily, her heart beating a tattoo of his name onto her rib cage. "You said it was the last time. We agreed – we agreed the last time was it."
"I changed my mind." He says easily, his mouth trailing up to her jaw. "God, you're so fucking warm."
And the low, guttural sound of his voice makes her knees actually give out this time. He only tightens his fingers around her wrists, though, and his thigh between her legs keeps her upright, but oh – his thigh between her legs. She trembles.
Her eyes fall closed with a pleased, drawn out sigh and he lets out a breathy laugh.
"You want this just as much as I do, don't you, pet?" He taunts, scraping his fangs lightly over her skin.
Anita growls but before she can retort he presses his lips to hers and kisses her in a way that only he's ever done; hard, deep, angry. He releases her right hand and she presses her palm to the nape of his neck, holding him in place as she responds to his jabbing remark by nipping at his bottom lip. She makes a noise at the back of her throat when his tongue invades her mouth.
He's cold – all vampires are. But Anita doesn't see it like they do in the old YA novels about the then-mythical vampire, it is not just some side effect of being a dashing creature of the night like the young heroines think it is; it's one of the things she hates the most when she's with Frankie like this, because it reminds her that he is dead. He has no pulse, no heartbeat. Frankie is cold like a corpse, a walking disease.
This thought gives her resolve a burst of renewed strength and she tugs her other hand free from his grasp, holding tightly to his shirt as she pants, "We can't keep doing this." But even as the words leave her, she allows her hand to drift down towards his stomach, feeling the taut muscles of his abdomen beneath her exploring fingers.
Jesus, help me, Anita thinks desperately, he's my Kryptonite.
He's undeterred – his mouth hovering over hers, golden eyes watching her intently as his hands go to her hips and he hooks his thumbs into the waistband of her pants. "Why not?" He asks, softly, the words drifting over her lips.
She pauses, distracted by the way his fingers stroke circles onto her skin.
He smiles at her hesitancy, touching his lips lightly to hers.
The tenderness throws her into momentary surprise, but he suddenly grips the back of her thighs and lifts her up, propping her against the wall as her legs lock instinctively around his waist, and there's nothing tender about what's digging into the inside of her thigh. She gasps when his hands slide up her sweater, one at the small of her back and the other on her breast.
She kisses him fervidly, nearly slicing open her tongue on his fang, and cradles his jaw in her hands – he grins into her mouth, apparently satisfied by her response, and her body screams this is the last time, just once more.
"I'm not into necrophilia – you son of a bitch," Anita murmurs, short of breath, but even she hears the fond way the words are spoken.
"Shut up," Frankie groans as his mouth goes to her collarbone, his hand tugging one of her legs higher over his hip while his groin steadily rocks into the apex of her thighs as if to prove his next words, "D'you think I want to want this? I've taken playing with my food to an all new level."
And she doesn't even try to stop the morbid laugh that leaves her as he carries her to his bedroom.
It's the last time, after all.

“man I love college”- Asher Roth
My name is Dalton Willis, I am currently a freshman at Capital University and I am a communication major. Yes, the “easy” major. As I am not yet narrowed down, in these next couple of years I hope to explore my interest in film, writing, social media, design, and any sort of PR I can get my hands on. I come from Columbus, Oh where I graduated from Hamilton Township High School (http://www.hamilton-local.k12.oh.us/highschool_home.aspx). In High School I was outgoing and was friends with pretty much everyone. I try to leave a positive impact on anyone that ever associates with me as I believe that there is no time for negativity and that we should really appreciate everything that we have in life. As my senior year quickly came to an end the pressure of choosing a college was heavy on my shoulders. Here is a video that I made during my senior year about this whole process, (https://youtu.be/wVFs-vUtpJM). Do I want to keep playing soccer? Stay close to home? Get out of here? I had it down between Ohio Dominican and Capital. I had a visit to Cap on a Saturday and a visit to ODU on the Sunday following. As we pulled into campus for the first time at Capital it just felt right (very cliche and teenage girl of me to say but it did). Savanna Edwards from the Odyssey Online states that “Picking a college can be an intimidating process. It is a huge decision you are expected to make based on information sessions, campus tours and sometimes without even seeing the school. If you pick the right one though, then college feels a whole lot like home.” (Edwards) She is completely right as I can personally say that the feeling was like no other, just felt like home and I wanted to be there. The environment made me excited to learn and to meet new people. I didn’t even attend the ODU visit as I enrolled into Capital University that day. Although I was nervous about college and recreating who I am, my experience here at Capital has been one to remember as I’ve made new friends and found more out about myself than I ever have. I can’t wait to see myself in four years when I can walk out of the gate and say that I graduated from Capital University.
During my first semester I feel that I have already grown so much and I have learned so much about myself that I never knew. The common app website states that “College is about defying expectations, breaking the mold, and finding yourself.” (common app) (https://www.commonapp.org/why-go-college). I couldn’t agree more, It’s crazy to me that one semester can make you feel this way and I can’t even imagine what I am going to feel in four years when this is all finished. Not knowing anyone was a blessing in disguise as I have noticed that college me is way happier than High School me and I thought that was going to be the best time of my life. Not knowing anyone allows you to experiment and explore what you are really interested in. All of my classes have taught me so much already, I can talk in front of 30 people without messing up my words, I can be myself and still fit in, I love film way more than I thought that I already did, and best of all, I can get an A on a paper that I do an hour before it is due. Just like Asher Roth, I Love College and I’m nice right now man. So even though I was nervous about college and recreating who I am, my experience here at Capital has been one to remember as I’ve made new friends and found more out about myself than I ever have. I can’t wait to see myself in four years when I can walk out of the gate and say that I graduated from Capital University.
