Amphibiuary Day 25 - Clothes
An attempt at Beatrix Potter's Mr. Jeremy Fisher and Sir Isaac Newton. Because when I think of animals in clothes, I think of Beatrix Potter.

~∗⁘☆ vaguely 1900's Sophie - build update #1!! ☆⁘ ∗~
This summer I decided to undertake my first historically inspired cosplay, from one of my all time favorite movies -- Howl's Moving Castle! They live in a fantasy world, of course, but it's clear that certain historical periods inspired the visuals. When you search 'this 'When does Howl's Moving Castle take place', Google's AI says 'The Eduardian period, in the first half of the 19th century'. (those of u who know history things will realize that the Eduardian period is very much not in the first half of the 19th century...) Anywho, we're going with early 1900's/Eduardian!!~
The first chunk of this build on the chopping block is the undergarments! I really want to nail a historical shape for this build, and the right undergarments make the silhouette happen.
Tumblr media
The first two I made are shown below: A very basic (and very anachronistic) chemise, and a pair of bloomers. The chemise goes below the corset, and is less for structure and more for to protect your skin from being irritated or pinched by the corset. I've been calling this my chemish, because it's chemise...ish. (Also, fwiw I'm going to be using a store bought corset, bc my skill level is not at corsetry yet)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bloomers is just a fancy name for floofy old timey shorts that go under dresses and skirts. This iconic scene above is one of the only ones that references the understructure layer that Sophie would be wearing in this time period, and we can clearly see her bloomers and petticoat! (She's also wearing stockings ofc, but I'm opting not to do that because I'll be wearing this costume in August and I'm not trying to die from heat).
3 more undergarments remain: the corset cover, the petticoat (aka underskirt), and the hip/bum pads. These all help get the smooth and snatched historical shape -- corset covers smooth out the top edge of the corset and makes your bust look fuller, the petticoat gives your skirt volume, and the hip pads make your butt/hips look bigger, while also propping up all the weight of your floofy flowy skirts. All 3 of these garments add volume above and below your waist, thus making your waist look even more snatched by comparison.
Up next: the final 3 undergarment pieces, and then the final dress! T minus ~5 weeks until the deadline. More soon!

Still Falling For You - Chapter 19
Pairing: Kristanna
Word Count: 5,288
Summary: In early 20th century England, Anna, the daughter of an Earl, and Kristoff, a footman employed at her family’s estate, find love in a society where class differences are determined to keep them apart.
November, 1918
Kristoff’s eyes fluttered open, his vision bleary and strained against the harsh white light. His head was splitting, and he wasn’t quite sure where he was, but in the brief moment he had his eyes open, he could see that there was an angel standing above him - and the angel bore an awfully strong resemblance to Anna.

Hello hello! I've been looking at your blog a bit but have been a little too shy to request anything until now.
I was wondering if you could do some kind of eduardian/european progressive era/1910s inspired stim board with calm, warm lighting
Also anything with pearls, lace, canes, etc is awesome :Dc
Ty for your time and everything you do!

For the ask: 7, 12, 94, 98
7. Earbuds or headphones?
Headphones for comfort, earbuds when I wanna noise-cancel (VERY handy for sensory overload in public lol)
12. Name of your favorite playlist?
I don’t have one tbh ^^” I only have a playlist made for when I’m working out, which is just called “gym.”
I’ve been listening to a short lofi album on repeat recently while writing though, if that counts?? It’s called Haunted Castle and it’s by Dosi!!
94. Favorite season?
Either fall or winter!! I can’t stand hot weather or when it’s sunny out 。゚(゚´ω`゚)゚。
98. Favorite historical era?
Ooooo this one is hard because I’ve never been big on history really lol. I guess the Victorian/Eduardian era aesthetics are really fun, if that counts for anything

TIL that the awfulness, danger and discomfort of corsets was mostly invented by patriarchy threatened by the suffragette movement.

Those are not safety standards of eduardian paper mill. This is not just lack of safety standards. This is actively going against them and actively partaking in endangering workers.
so as it turns out spacex has the safety standards of an edwardian paper mill
Tumblr media
its kind of like. astonishingly bad.
Tumblr media
musk is a manchild which is in and of itself not particularly conducive to safety culture but he also believes he's saving humanity from a dying earth which absolves him and spacex from any wrongdoing because those people are just sacrifices to a noble cause

I’ve been digging the photo for a while now. I finally researched its origins and it’s a photo during the documentary for The Teddy Boys of the Eduardian Drape Society. In the early ‘50s, a new type of fashion swept Britain and it was called the New Eduardian look. It pre-dates American rock-&-roll, so it’s pretty cool that Britain already had that rock-&-roll look, before rock-&-roll was born and swept through the continents.

no one would believe you but how else can they make sense of the fact that your boyfriend talks like an eduardian dandy and doesnt know how to use a cell phone
if you were dating a vampire who got turned when they were like 19 and youre like fifty i think you should just tell people that their plastic surgeon is really good. really really good. no you cant see them because the procedure is massively illegal internationally. just dont worry about it
