In early 1995, U.S. Maple was born out of the ashes of two groups at Chicago's Northern Illinois University. Lead singer Al Johnson and "high" guitarist Mark Shippy were in Shorty, while drummer Pat Samson and "low" guitarist Todd Rittman spent their time with the Mercury Players. After the breakup of the two bands, the members met to see how they could deconstruct rock, only to leave its most basic elements. Since their development, they have released three different albums. The band recorded their first single at Easley Recording Studios in Memphis, TN in September 1995. It included the song "When a Man Says Ow!," which would later reappear on their first full-length album, backed with a number called "Stuck." Doug Easley manned the production boards for the session. Chicago independent record label Skin Graft took notice of the band and signed them on in the fall of that year. Shortly afterwards, the label released the "Stuck" single. Later in the same year, U.S. Maple stepped into Solid Sound Studios at Hoffman Estates in Illinois. It was there that they recorded their first full-length album, Long Hair in Three Stages, with renowned indie producer Jim O'Rourke. The record was released in October 1995. Before the band would go into the studio to work on their follow-up, they recorded a new single, as well as a contribution for a tribute album. Released on the Sonic Bubblegum imprint in early 1996, the band tackled and disfigured the 1961 Dion & the Belmonts' hit "The Wanderer." It was backed by a new original entitled "Whoa Complains." Then, in May of that same year, they re-recorded the AC/DC song "Sin City" for a tribute album on Skin Graft. U.S. Maple appeared alongside other Chicago bands like Shellac and Big'n. In early 1997, the group stepped back into Solid Sound Studios once again with the help of O'Rourke. What resulted was Sang Phat Editor, released in June. The fall of 1998 was a time of change for U.S. Maple, as they left Skin Graft. The band needed more support from the label due to their extensive touring schedule. It was early in 1999 that the group signed to Drag City Records, another Chicago-based independent label. Their interest in Drag City was a result of their contact with some of its artists one of which included O'Rourke. In late January of '99, U.S. Maple returned to the studio. However, they were now recording in Brooklyn, NY at B.C. Studios, rather than Illinois' Solid Sound. Not only did the surroundings change, but the producers did, too. Michael Gira, former lead singer of the goth rock band the Swans, was in charge of the recording sessions. What resulted was their third full-length album, Talker, which was released the following year. Acre Thrills arrived in spring 2001. That summer, Samson left the group and was replaced by Adam Vida, who had also played with Drag City artists like Edith Frost

— edie was an accidental pregnancy. she doesn’t just suspect this, she knows it. since her mom has multiple interviews expressing how she never thought she’d be a mother. or wanted to be one, for that matter. ( she’s always applauded for her “bravery” and “honesty” regarding motherhood and regret while edie is just like uhh…wtf ) edie’s dad is an acclaimed director. he’s one of those ones where if you don’t like their movie, annoying film bros claim you just didn’t “get” it. i think of a david lynch or charlie kaufman type. he and edie’s mom met while filming a show. he was 52 ( with two other adult children from previous relationships ) and she was 44. needless to say, they weren’t exactly expecting to get pregnant.

—  neither of edie’s parents were super involved in her life. they were always busy ; traveling, press junkets, the oscars, film festivals, vacations…edie spent a lot of the time being cared for by nannies. a cliché rich girl tale if you’ve ever heard one. as many celebs do, her parents went through a contentious divorce due to an affair scandal. during the ensuing paparazzi storm, edie realized the cameras gave her the attention her parents didn’t. so while her mom pulled up the hood of her sweatshirt and shoved her sunglasses down to avoid being seen, little edie would stop to show off for the cameras.

The Celestial Choir. (6 Jan 2020)

A mysterious saboteur tries to stop Kembleford from winning the Three Counties Choir competition.

Canon Fox (Roger May) is amazed when the Kembleford Choristers, led by Mrs McCarthy (Sorcha Cusack), make it through to the final of the Three Counties Choir Competition at Worcester Cathedral.

On the day of the final one of the Choristers falls ill, and a reluctant Lady Felicia (Nancy Carroll) agrees to step in so the team can participate. On the way to the cathedral, their omnibus suddenly breaks down and Bunty (Emer Kenny) reveals that the fuel line has been cut.

Suspicion immediately falls on rival choir the Hambleston Harmonisers, led by Lawrence Ashton (Hugh Sachs). The Choristers, also comprised of Sergeant Goodfellow (John Burton), Audrey Belchant (Daisy Maywood), Wesley Summerton (Ashley Campbell), and Nicholas and Barbara Curtley (Joseph Prowen and Sarah Ingram), must race against time to get to Worcester before they are disqualified, all while Father Brown (Mark Williams) works to discover who is out to get them.

The Queen Bee (7 Jan 2020) Father Brown investigates the mysterious death of a beekeeper.

After a freak accident, eccentric beekeeper Beattie May decides that her adoptive son Shambu must be properly provided for, in case anything unexpected should happen to her. Beattie invites her solicitor Ronnie Grunion (Nigel Planer) to make an addition to her will, consisting of a puzzle that will lead Shambu to a valuable jewel.

However, before Ronnie can amend the will, Beattie is found murdered in her bed. Later, at the reading of her will, with Father Brown, Mrs McCarthy (Sorcha Cusack), Bunty and former neighbours Miss Slither and her niece Hannah (Grace Molony) all in attendance, Shambu is arrested for Beattie’s murder by Inspector Mallory (Jack Deam).

Father Brown must work to discover whether Shambu really is guilty of his mother’s murder, or whether someone else is responsible.

The Scales Of Justice (8 Jan 2020)

Father Brown must race to save Bunty from the hangman’s noose when she is tried for murder. Things look bad for Bunty when she is charged with the murder of Teddy Neville-Crowley (Ziggy Heath) following an altercation at a Great Gatsby-themed party on his estate.

Mrs McCarthy is dumbfounded, but when Father Brown (Mark Williams) goes about trying to establish the facts he is met with resistance from Inspector Mallory (Jack Deam).

Father Brown questions the other attendees at the party, including Teddy’s brother Max (Rob Callender), and Max’s wife Margot (Alice Bailey Johnson), but draws a blank. When the case goes to trial, Bunty’s fate lies in the hands of her defence barrister Bertie Quinton (Robert Portal) - but following a poor performance from Bertie, it looks like the jury and Judge Pickering (Julian Forsyth) may send Bunty to the gallows.

Can Father Brown find the evidence to prove Bunty’s innocence before it’s too late?

The Wisdom Of The Fool (9 Jan 2020)

Murder is no laughing matter when Father Brown visits a jesters’ convention. When a convention of jesters, including Sir Toby and Edith Dobson (Neil Pearson and Emily Joyce), son Fred (Alexander Morris) and Doodle (Natey Jones), arrive in Kembleford to entertain the crowds, the merriment is brought to a halt when Dr Belmont (Annabel Cleare) collapses and dies in front of a crowd of shocked spectators. Father Brown (Mark Williams) suspects foul play and begins to investigate the circumstances of her death, along with Bunty (Emer Kenny). Meanwhile another jester, Mr Feste (Paul Copley), has taken a shine to Mrs McCarthy (Sorcha Cusack) but is stopped in his tracks when confronted by Father Brown and Bunty. He admits to killing Dr Belmont and begs Father Brown to let him confess his sins.

However, he is murdered in the confessional before he can. Did Mr Feste act alone when he killed Dr Bemont, and who in turn killed him? Father Brown must find out.

The Folly Of Jephthah (10 Jan 2020)

Flambeau seeks Father Brown’s help to get rid of an unwanted rival. After a mysterious thief keeps stealing valuable treasures from under his nose, Hercule Flambeau (John Light) visits Kembleford to see if Father Brown (Mark Williams) can help him to eliminate the competition. Flambeau reveals that his new rival is in fact his estranged daughter Marianne Delacroix (Gina Bramhill). Seeing the opportunity to save a soul, Father Brown (Mark Williams) agrees to help Flambeau find her. The two set a trap at Gloucester Museum, but Marianne later surprises them by turning up at the presbytery. Marianne proposes her and her father compete to determine who is the better thief, with the loser handing over all their stolen goods and giving up their life of crime.

The two agree, and the contest is on. Can Father Brown help to convince either of these master criminals to keep their word and turn their back on crime for good?

The Crimson City has taken new shape as The Emerald City, and the booze pours like water. Of course, anyone with foresight will know even a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration can’t go untouched by at least one of the families. The drinks have made their rounds, whether that’s lounged at the bar or courtesy of the green and orange clad waiters delivering martinis on a tray. Everyone found their way to their favorite attraction—more like staggered to their favorite attraction—when the heat pooled at their toes, licked its way up their ankles. Before they knew it, their entire bodies were consumed in heat, reddening their cheeks like a sunburn in the middle of Chicago’s burning summer. 

It clicked just a little too late that they had been dosed, and the rage set in before common sense. Something erupted in the crowd, volcanic and angry, and the fights broke out like they were on a schedule. It was chaos; chaos that couldn’t be contained by the police guards eyeing the perimeter to prevent an event like last time. Civilians and family members alike, everyone present, began to lose their grip on reality. Attachments were lost in the wildfire of it all, and those who looked like friends morphed into something to be feared. 

The O’Shea creation, BUA, and its side effects come from equal parts LSD, methamphetamines, and cocaine, all without the floating euphoria of feeling high. It’s very capable of killing, even in small doses, and even with the likelihood that you’ll survive, the drug leaves its traces on your brain for weeks after ingestion. BUA comes in all forms, and it can be injected, snorted, and smoked, depending on the vehicle of delivery. BUA is incredibly addictive, and it’s hard enough to get a hold of that anyone who ingests the drug will deal with the aftermath of withdrawals. 

Your character, for the time being, is under the influence of BUA, meaning they may act out of character and violent toward their surroundings. That includes friends, enemies, and strangers. 

Part II will run from March 20th through March 23rd. For this event, we’ll be throwing characters into groups, so they may interact with whoever they’re teamed up with. You can find all of your assigned groups below. If your character is not included, please feel free to reach out to the admins, and we’ll find a place for your muse. Also please note that your character could have been drugged by drinking any drink or eating any food.

Susan Shaffer Ellis, 73 years old, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. Born to Cloyd E. and Betty J. Shaffer in Johnstown, PA, she graduated from Westmont High School in 1966 and earned her BA in Elementary Education from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC in 1970. She is the beloved wife for over 50 years to David C. Ellis of Vernon Twp., NJ. They married October 16, 1971. Devoted mother of Jonathan D. Ellis and his significant other, Angela Serritella of Wanaque, NJ and Leah S. Ellis of Vernon Twp., NJ. Susan was the dear sister of Mary Ann Kemmer of Pine Mountain, CA. She will be missed by her sisters-in-law, Edith Selby, Sandra Ellis Connie Shaffer and Julie Ellis Moyer.

Susan worked as an elementary school teacher in Michigan, South Carolina, North Carolina, and New Jersey as well as home-schooling her two children. Susan was a member of Hope Church in Wantage NJ where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was church librarian. She worked as a business partner with her husband at their Subway Franchise and in Creative Imagery of Vernon Twp., NJ.

Susan was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, knitting, teaching children and was creative with crafts and a great organizer. She was devoted to her Lord Jesus Christ and was faithful in reading the Bible and studying God's word while living out her faith in daily life. She had abundant wisdom and heart for helping others through their trials. Her wisdom and advice will be missed.

Susan is predeceased by her Parents, Cloyd and Betty Shaffer as well as her daughter Leigh Anne Ellis (1975), Brother- Stephen Shaffer (2008) and a brother-in-law Peter Ellis (2020).

The Ellis family will receive their family and friends at Hope Church, 1441 Route 565, Wantage Twp., NJ on Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 2-3 PM. Interment will be for immediate family at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, 225 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004 on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 1 PM. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, Vernon, NJ. Memorial gifts may be sent in the form of a donation to Hope Church, 1441 Route 565, Sussex, NJ 07461
