I'll never understand why so many Disney Channel stars picked the same songs for the DisneyMania albums. There were so many covers of Cruella De Vil and Reflection and Part of Your World and frikkin When You Wish Upon A Star, and everyone completely slept on The World's Greatest Criminal Mind.
#''oh I don't want to be seen as just the good girl/boy next door on Disney Channel I wanna be EDGY!''#*sings a song from The Little Mermaid or Cars*#dude The Great Mouse Detective soundtrack is RIGHT THERE!

Simon's team invite him to the beach and he brings bimbo!reader with him, and bimbo! reader is making so many sandcastles like a child would do and the team would give Simon stares but Simon ignores them!
Or bimbo!reader asking Simon to play mermaid with them and trying to make friends with the crabs maybeeee????
“D'ya wanna play mermaids?” Simon's gaze drifts down to you the moment you approach him, unable to stop himself from giving you a once-over, taking in how beautiful you look with a pink bikini. His hand goes to your waist out of pure muscle memory, brown eyes softening at your question despite his confusion.
“Sure.” Anything for his princess. Anything, even letting you drag him to a more secluded area at the beach, listening to you ramble about the powers your mermaid has.
“Okay, so my mermaid has a pink, sparkly tail, and she can talk to all the animals underwater.” Growing up without a childhood is really kicking Simon's ass, but he quickly catches up, understanding more and more about the game.
“Yeah? My merman has a black tail, and he can...” He drags out, trying his best to even imagine what cool power a fictional character could have.
“He has an army of dead fish.” He knows it's edgy, but it's the best his brain could come up with. The little grin you shoot his way when he plays along is enough to make his heart beat faster, completely wrapped around your little finger.
His whole life, Simon has known nothing but war and survival, yet he gets the chance to heal his inner child when he's with you, knowing you'll never judge him no matter what.

OMG!?!??! I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THIS SONG (and AU), RIGHT NOW!!!
(By Lydia the bard
TINKERBELL VILLAIN SONG - Fall Little Wendy Bird Fall | Song by Lydia the Bard and Tony | Animatic
The title^)
youtube
First of all the cover art is AMAZING, Tink is SO pretty, the sparkle and lines on the wings, her grin, HER HAIR, HER EARS, HER DRESS,
Also, "Fall Little Wendy Bird Fall" is a great title
Now the video itself and its lyrics, i really REALLY want to just compliment every single frame of this video, its so beautiful, so well done, its like it was blessed by The Muses of greek mythology,
Okay so the lyrics at 0:45
"You dont seem to quite understand what is at stake,
This messed up little family that i had to make"
Not only is this line so beautiful with the way her voice sounds, its pretty much a nod to the fact Tink and her friends kidnapped peter pan and the lost kids to keep her and her friends alive
(0:55) \/
"If i could let them all go home please know that i would
But it'd do more harm than good"
Just Tink expressing her guilt that she and her friends kidnapped the lost boys so that they could keep existing, but like, JWHSEAJKHWED, she ofc doesn't want her or her friends to die, and since people are slowly not believing in fairies anymore, they're slowly going extinct, ALSO, Fawn and Silvermist are DEAD, so yeah, that messes with someones head
AAAALSOOOO, i LOVE their silhouettes, the height and weight differences instead of them all having the same height and weight like in the movies, plus, i LOVE that despite not looking like how they do in the movies, you can probably still tell who is who,
ALSO
Even if it wasnt intentional, i like how in kinda faraway shots, Tink has a more cuter roundish look, while in closer shots shes more edgy and more intimidating(? if that's the right word), kinda showing how others view her (kinda?) as a cute fairy, maybe underestimated, but yknow, close up, shes plotting to kill a child
(1:15)
I love how Tink is gesturing in this scene, cause 1. It conveys to the audience what she wants from the lost boys and 2. Canonically, when fairies talk, people usually just hear jingling of bells, so shes gesturing because shes also conveying what she wants to the lost boys
1:23
"Swear its nothing personal, its a necessary evil"
I just love this line because it is a necessary evil, she needs the lost boys and peter pan in neverland to believe in fairies so that they exist, and Wendy is pretty much a threat, since she makes the lost boys want to grow up with families,
Also, the lost boys look so cute in here, i cant remember their names tho, one is holding a slingshot, aiming at wendy, one is holding rocks , and one has a stick , so Tink just told these children to assassinate Wendy, or at least attack her.
1:35
I love how the kids explain that Tink make them do it, and Peter Pan just glares at Tink, and i love that I'm pretty sure that Peter isn't mad/doesnt blame the lost boys
As seen in this scene where Pete is smiling and stuff at the Lost Boys and/or at Wendy
1:55
I love how Tink refers to Wendy as a "Nasty little spark" because, a spark can turn into a fire, damaging a lot of stuff and people, pretty much saying that Wendy has to be snuffed out before she causes a fire,
"Setting fires inside my house is just not allowed"
Pretty much referring to the fact that Wendy, the spark, is creating a fire, aka, making the lost boys want to grow up and go back to the real world, making them not believe in fairies anymore, thus, making her and her friends die, which is, not allowed.
Also. the fear in Tink's eyes is so fear, her expression is on point, the mix of concern and fear is just, so beautiful, also i love her pointed ears
2:17
First of all, this screenshot does not do justice to the actual design of the mermaid (siren?), cause they are AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL, GORGEUS.
Also, the fact that Tink is persuasive enough to convince someone to kill Wendy in such a short amount of time is impressive, and the fact that the mermaids agreed so quickly is also impressive,
When it failed, the absolute horror and shock on Tink's face? Shes horrified that another plan of hers failed, and shes scared that her friends might die, like, wow
The despair on her face is just so...asdjwoaijdoiwajd
3:38
The fact that Peter Pan (i cant even give him a nickname cause Pete sounds different and P.P. is just wrong and Pan is just A Thing), first at the gust of wind that blows away the pixie dust (which keeps the ship afloat) he covered his eyes, maybe cause the dust or his hair in his eyes, then he looks at Tink in anger and shock and probably some confusion, then looks at Wendy, in concern and fear,
Theory: Pan knows that, since Tink doesnt want the lost boys to leave, and he knows that gust of wind was from the fairies, and Tink's dislike and hatred to WEndy, that Wendy was probably the only one not going to be saved, which is why he only looks at her and tries to save her (that or he's a SIMPPPPPPP /j)
3:50
The fact that you can see Wendy screaming??? Chills,
And the black screen right after, signalling Wendy's death is just amazing
Anyways, overall, what im saying is
THIS SONG IS AMAZING GO CHECK IT OUT, GO CHECK OUT THIS PERSONS CHANNEL, THEY HAVE GOOD VILLAIN SONGS, THEY EVEN HAVE ENCANTO!!!!

well, you made a fighting roster for one of your favorite things, bugs, so why not do your second favorite? HALLOWEEN.....but you don't have to if you want.
I actually did that of my own accord with concept sketches once but it was two years ago so a lot of people haven't seen it.
It started when I made up a Darkstalkers fan character; a "scream queen" (type of horror movie actress in the 50's) and Bug Eyed Monster duo, with some more move ideas:
But then I decided to just make a dozen monster fighter characters of my own like it was its own distinct game and not Darkstalkers:
Mermaid who was partially eaten by people who thought it would make them immortal, instead it killed them because she was poisonous but she doesn't know that so her ghost is stuck on a revenge killing spree that can never be satisfied
Cartoon werewolf in a zoot suit and punk rock vampire with boombox coffin, I didn't come up with storyline for them, I just needed a werewolf and a vampire
Frankenstein's daughter who put her brain into her own monster in order to defend humanity against her dad's creations and other supernatural threats, I decided on this partly because I'm not really into superheroes but they're one of the top most common Halloween costumes so I tried to make a Halloweeny one that I'd like
Nurse who accidentally transfused herself with cursed mummy blood. I made this one because there's a picture I drew when I was real little of a bleeding mummy with the words "MUMMY BLOOD" on it that child-me thought was the scariest picture ever, and also because I love the (mostly Japanese) trope of medical themed mummies. Also based on the fact that "sexy nurses" are a top selling Halloween costume and then that easily ties into a Silent Hill reference. This all felt creepypasta-like so she's also like a slendersman
Old fashioned Halloween mascot pumpkin man with a vegetable ghost gang, actually the ultimate villain of the setting and a monster that eats children
"Bogeyman" fighter inspired by edgy 90's comic books, a ragdoll scarecrow grim reaper clown. She's a manifestation of the fears of children, but in the sense that she exists to destroy whatever threatens them so her main goal is to kill all other monsters and especially the pumpkin guy
Entire zombie outbreak as one fighter, represented by a cute little fungus mascot, but every fighting move is performed by zombies coming and going from the ground
shapeshifting space alien disguised as a generic housewife, the human disguise would animate like a doll being played with by invisible hands
Ideas for extra-weird, secret unlockable fighters:
Photorealistic giant insect
Vincent Price parody and all his moves are obvious special effects performed by a film crew in the background the whole time
Mysterious entity in a "morph suit" because that's become such a staple of Halloween costumes. Changes into all manner of colors and printed textures for different moves or is the token "mimic" character.
Completely normal middle aged office worker who was on his way to work when he was accidentally caught in the monster brawl, battles on the power of pure blind panic. The tournament put his name down as "I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE"

Okay hi hello I have seen a sudden new influx in EAH fans (hiiiii welcome <3) and while I am very happy to see this little fandom still be more than three pieces of lint and a paperclip, I am here to give y'all a list of already DEBUNKED EAH myths that somehow always show up whenever this happens every 1/2 years:
"Apple White and Raven Queen are related."
They are not. In Chapter 2 Episode 11 "Blondie Branches Out" there's a throaway line explaining how the 'Prince Charming' role is distributed between multiple unrelated Charming families. There is also no mention in any of EAH media of Apple and Raven being related. The only related characters are:
Poppy and Holly O'Hair (Twins)
Giles & Milton Grimm (Siblings, Milton is the oldest)
Cerise Hood and Ramona Badwolf (Siblings, order not specified)
Daring, Dexter and Darling charming (Siblings, Daring is the oldest and Dexter and Darling are fraternal twins)
Briar Beauty and Rosabella Beauty (1st Cousins)
Gus and Helga Crumb (1st Cousins)
The Hood/Badwolf sisters, Sparrow Hood (Distant cousins)
In Apple White's 'Royally Ever After' diary, the retelling of the Snow White fairytale has Apple be Raven's personal assistant that later overthrows her rule, meaning familial relation and them sharing a royal bloodline is not a necessary part of the narrative.
"XYZ Background character is the descendant of ABC fairytale character."
Unless directly confirmed by a GURU media employee or mentioned in the show, none of the background characters have a direct counterpart.
Most of the most famous background characters are actually cameos/based off of animators (pictured below):
The fandom wiki is not a reliable source given the fact it has no edit protection and the moderators are no longer active.
Be carefulnot to confuse popular hedacanons or fan designs (more often than not fanart by red_red_heels, boots.caitlin and/or theprincessswan on instagram)
"XYZ's fairytale parent is dead."
Unless specifically stated, this is also not true. Certain stories have a loophole or workaround that prevent major character death. So far we have been given confirmation of:
Cinderella (Unknown loophole): shown to still be alive in 'Ashlynn Ella's Story'
The Swan Queen (Turned into a swan forever): It is not known wether or not Duchess' mom gave birth to her while she was still a human or if she was born from an egg. Raised by her grandmother. It is implied her curse is generational.
The Little Mermaid (Happy Ending): The first time this loophole is mentioned explicitly (Meeshell's diary). She was given a happy ending and lives under the sea, unlike the original HCA story. Story variation further explained in 'Fairy Tail Ending'.
The Big Bad Wolf (Unknown loophole): Self explanatory.
Baba Yaga (Possible Immortality?): Self explanatory.
The Candy Witch (Version recorded in the Storybook of Legends confirmed to be inaccurate): Explained in 'Kiss and Spell'.
"Descendants killed EAH."
Look, I am as much of a Descendants hater as the next guy, but the unfortunate truth is that EAH was never as successful as Mattel expected it to be. Their style was too 'childish and girly' for kids who were already into Monster High, and their themes were far too complex for younger kids to fully grasp. So their target audience was unfortunately not very interested. This is coming from someone who was around 11-12 when EAH came out. As an existing MH fan, I was turned off by it as at that time kids were entering their more 'edgy' phase and wasn't willing to give it a chance.
What dealt the killing blow was Mattel and Disney severing their contract over the Disney Princess doll line due to decreasing quality, and then after the release of descendants with Hasbro, one of Mattel's biggest competitors.
-
There's probably some other myths I missed, but these are the most common/widely believed ones. I'll maybe reblog/update later with more myths as I come across them.

Annie's style is like mermaidcore but mostly on the seashell and knots, leather jacket over it and black eyeliner on the eyes, colourful eyeshadow (green blue and purple mostly). She doesn't need blush, her sunburn is enough. She has seashell clips on her hair and those with the flowers like 🌺,I forgot their name. Her style manages to be edgy even when it's like the most fantasy thing from a mermaid tale. Vintage jewelry, some pirate elements if she's in the mood, those babydoll shirts, tanks, corsets, mesh material. Like some shiny summer mermaid outfit with the spider mascara lashes and the shiny colourful eyeshadow and trow a leather blazer over it. She also absolutely loooves long skirts, but in d4 is so hot that she just can't wear them😭😭 And it like bothers her bc it bothers her aesthetic
Mags' is costal grandmother. Khaki pants, cozy beige and white sweaters, white button ups and white and blue Floral dresses. I can just imagine her in one of those costal houses on the porch drinking her coffee on the sunset in a cozy sweater, her gray hair in a sunburst pin. And her making dinner for the other victors when they meet up, and using those white sets with the navy flowers on them with the little cups and dishes.
For Finnick I think he loves sweaters. Turtlenecks for winter. Idk if its just the shirt from the quell reaping but I just imagine him with sweaters. And light blue jeans, baggy with a black basic belt. Then from those leather jackets with fluff underneath them. And for summer I think basic shirt from those with the vintage graphics, with the soft cours on them. And cargo jorts or the light denim again. But hell also have seashell necklaces (from Annie) and some chain or rope on his neck. I think he also has ear piercings and looses his earrings in the sea bc he always forgets they're on. And he also has a hoodie that is extremely soft, like the ones with the plush inside that are really warm and wears it when it gets dark outside. And when Annie falls asleep he puts in on her so she doesn't get a cold. And he always forgets to put on a cap. Or when he puts one it's turned around and Mags llectures him about it.
-🎸
anon you never miss!!
i dont think annie can stick with one aesthetic so she just mashes them all together and somehow it works
mags is knitting in her rocking chair, with a cardigan draped over her shoulders—also youre so right about the dinner sets!
finnick is a sucker for turtlenecks. he has so many of them. i can also see him being really into those flowy almost blouse shirts and he leaves them unbuttoned.

Willy Wonka misconceptions
As Charlie and the Chocolate Factory / Willy Wonka has become weirdly popular lately because of the successful prequel film and most recently that really botched / rip-off Wonka event in Glasgow Scotland, it felt like a good time for this post.
Here are a list of popular misconceptions about the book and films.
1. Much of the Internet thinks of Wonka as a "Serial killer of children." I pointed out that at the end of the 2006 film and novel you see the children alive, though altered. And in the 1971 film that version of Wonka says that they will all be fine, but a little wiser. Someone tried to argue with me that he was just trying to placate Charlie. Really!? Since when did that Wonka ever lie to make people feel better?
Based on his previous behavior we have no reason to believe Wonka would lie just to make Charlie feel better. It's just a dark, edgy, annoying headcanon to pretend Wonka killed those other kids when every version tells you they survived.
____________________________
2. Grandpa Joe was not "Faking it" or "being lazy." It seems ironic to me that so many rant and even get genuinely angry about the character Grandpa Joe. It is especially odd to me when the rage is in regard to the depiction in the 1971 film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory.
The reason it is odd to me is because in the 1971 film Grandpa Joe very clearly was suffering through severe depression, possibly a long bipolar depression phase.
The depression is clear in his "I've got a golden Ticket" song.
"I never thought my life could be Anything but catastrophe"
"I never had a chance to shine Never a happy song to sing"
It seems weird to me that today people shame characters like Cinderella for not being assertive and empowered when she's a live-long abuse victim. And then you have the people against Disney's The Little Mermaid who say she gave up who and what she is for a man but ignore that she had a song number from before she ever saw Eric, where she expressed body dysphoria and made clear she wanted to be human even then.
And you have a large part of the Internet shaming Grampa Joe for being "lazy" and "faking being sick' while he's literally telling us that he he's been in a severe depression.
It's almost like watching a generation that supposedly respects mental illness and understands depression in ways previous generations didn't... suddenly having a justification to shame someone for having all the symptoms of clinical depression.
Hell, even the song "I've got a Golden Ticket" kind of indicates Grandpa Joe is entering a manic phase. If Grandpa Joe's illness is psychological why do we treat it as not-real? I get so annoyed at how many people mock the character or act like he's a con artist exploiting Charlie.
________________________
3. The Oompa Loompas were not slaves.
It's true that the earliest depictions of the Oompa Loompas were little African people (before the novel was revised) but in all versions he tells the kids that he pays them in coca-beans. That might sound like he pays them in fallen acorns he found in his garden but it's made clear that to Oompa Loompas, in their society, coca-beans are worth more than gold.
Try to imagine you got a job working for aliens who offer to pay you in large bars of gold if you just help him make some gold jewelry. But because gold isn't worth THAT much to these aliens they think you're a pathetic slave, even though Lofty (the Oompa Loompa from the new Wonka movie) probably now has a palace on Loompa Land that he uses as a summer house.
Interesting bit of trivia: Charlie was originally going to be black.
___________________________
4. Wonka (2023) is NOT a remake. A lot of people mistakenly think this is yet another remake. No. It's a musical prequel to the Gene Wilder Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie from 1971. ________________________
5. Lots of fans have "figured out" that the shoe shine boy Wonka sees early in Wonka is Charlie. One small problem with that. This is twenty-something Willy Wonka. Wonka was supposed to be pushing fifty or sixty when he went looking for an heir. The timeline wouldn't work. The director has confirmed that for this reason the shoe shine boy is NOT Charlie Bucket.
And there you go. A list of popular Wonka misconceptions debunked.

If i redesigned hagime id start by getting rid of the stupid fucking arm hoop. and then I'd make his hair droopy instead of puffy. and then I'd make his clothing overall more boring because he strikes me as the kind of guy that doesn't actually care how he looks. and like he still looks objectively like an edge lord with the kaneki ken hair and a robot arm. but now it's like way more accidental.
I don't think I'd actually redesign yue. like I know the whole thousand-year-old child thing bothers a lot of people but I don't give a fuck to be honest. her design is cute, simple; recognizable. it's fine. Maybe id make her fangs more defined. Really lean into the vampire thing.
Bunny girls fine too but i d make her ears and hair the same color. and probably give her a little muscle after the training. she is there heavy after all.
I think I would just get rid of the dragon completely. she does not add anything. She adds nothing too the narrative as far as im concerned.
I think I'd make the daughter a little less moe. like she needs to be cute obviously but she looks too much like a doll for my tastes. Id want her to actually look like a child Or at least make her look more like a mermaid/fish theme.
I'd probably make the teacher look a bit older. she's objectively more interesting as an adult or worried about students she's been put as really the only adult guidance for.
which I'm a spider so what did this trope way more interestingly. I also think the less morally gray version of this character deserves a good writing too. like their characters have too much difference just wave it off and say "oh another show is done it better".
Really id say i have the most issue with hajimes design. Not the edgy nature just the elements. And that stupid fucking arm hoop. That arm hoop is where functionality goes too die.
#arifureta#where's that post that's like if I'm piece of media is good you'll eventually run out of things to talk about#but when it's bad that's when it gets you#yeah

I really love Y/N's look, what led you to add things like double rows of teeth? What led you to that design? Was there another one design before?
bonks my head against yours like a cat!! thenks :3
i repurposed an old self insert oc i had as a teenager bc i wanted to be self indulgent! some edgy gothic white haired girl with a fringe over one eye lmao😋 i miss her...
their colour palette is pale and greyish as a nod to the grey Y/Ns in this community, their hair is white bc mine used to be white, and their hairstyle is one i used to wear swimming! i was also inspired by futuristic white aesthetics and Suichu Niso underwater modelling shoots.
i pretty much immediately settled on Y/N as they are here including webbed feet and finger scarring, and then built on more alien features later. the 4th image down is actually the first time i drew them. i think i got the idea for the teeth about a month into writing, prior to the first chapter going up. mostly i decide on things by daydreaming a funny or angsty scenario based on their alien heritage, and then seeing if i can work it into the story without it seeming clumsy or overcomplicating matters for myself. i overcomplicate things a lot😅 for example i'm regretting having two suits. and two subs. why did i do that?? lol
there's a scene coming up soon after chapter 12 involving the teeth and Vanessa - that's the scenario that inspired Y/N's lil shark teeth. i was also thinking that if i met a mermaid i would totally want a scale as a souvenir, but what would be the mermaid equivalent? hair? a fingernail makes me shiver. but teeth, when losing a row is a semi-regular affair, would be cool. even humans collect teeth!
i don't have a concrete image in mind yet for the natives of Y/N's home planet, but it's something in the realm of humanoid-fish-person, scaly, they have hair but it's not human-grade. an alien unfamiliar with humanoids would easily mistake them for regular humans (they got four legs and a little round head, right?) whereas humans and the fish people would be very offended to be lumped in together lmao. as a result i got a lot of freedom with what Y/N gets to inherit! their human-ness is bit of a disappointment to their guardian tho, so they don't get the full deck of fishy cards.
this might be tmi, some rambling about MEEE!! at first the evidence of having alien features removed was going to be more drastic - i thought over flippers surgically mutated into human feet, a missing tail, scales laser-removed - but decided against those. i was having a really tough time with my disability and chronic pain, and i wanted to live vicariously through Y/N, so they pass as able-bodied. i can't run or swim anymore so it's nice that they can. i think the missing finger webbing counts as a disability, esp when taking into account their issues with managing the discomfort from the scar tissue, and having to actively maintain their health to avoid the drawbacks that would arise from this kind of amputation. Y/N should be grateful i wanted to cosplay as able-bodied, otherwise they'd be far worse off😌🫰

First musical?
Technically the Little Mermaid because I went to see that live at my town's theatre but I was like, seven so I hardly remember a damn thing from it, which is sad because I really like that musical.
But the first one I DO remember?
CHICAGO!!!!!
Saw this live on a class trip in high school. One of my favorite musicals of all FUCKING TIME. We even got to meet some of the band and actors after and had our playbooks signed by them!!!! I love this musical so much, the music is extraordinary, the dialogue is funny as hell, it's an edgy comedy that I adore. And the movie?! One of the best movie-musical adaptations of all fucking time.
AND ALL THAT JAZZZZZ

I will never get over how bad they fumbled rikkis costuming in h2o. first of all why don't they have different tail colors I have to assume it was budget constraints?? rikki should have had a black tail with red and orange fins that kinda evoke guy feiri flames and they should have dyed her hair darker! there's already a blonde girl in the cast! and the subtle differences in shade and texture fuckin disappear the moment they get their hair wet which is half of all their screentime because its a mermaid show! come on tell me she's wouldn't rock red hair.
and they should have dressed her in some darker colors too because again her wardrobe looks too much like Emma's. give her a tattoo choker or something! and a little eyeliner? let her be edgy!

to add to that last ask, portia featherington is a beloved character despite the fact that she: encouraged marina to trick colin, manipulated her by forging the letter from george (because before that marina was NOT planning on pursuing colin like that), fearmongered her and made sure marina didn't stay unmarried despite her wanting to, slapped her after finding out she was pregnant (marina was a teenage girl!), and is generally emotionally abusive to all her daughters especially penelope and everyone says it's okay because she loves her kids!
so we have our answer, if marina was white, i think everyone would love her. because portia is like 70% of the reason marina did what she did. and sure, she has somewhat of a redemption arc in season 3, but people loved her even before that. and that's not to say i don't find her entertaining. she's funny, she delivers lines well, she's the worst and it makes for enjoyable scenes. but i do give more grace to the pregnant black teenager than to the middle aged white woman for "protecting her kids." in quotes because even if portia did see herself in pen, her treatment of pen is in no way protective or loving and flipping it around once she sees that colin genuinely loves her seems incredibly insincere.
also this isn't unique to bridgerton. you remember when the little mermaid live action came out? even going past the absolute vileness and vitriol that halle bailey faced leading up to the release you remember how when it came out? and everyone and their mothers LOVED vanessa? vanessa who had no lines? vanessa whose singing voice was halle bailey and whose speaking voice was melissa mccarthy? the white actress who just had to spin around for a minute and make a very evil expression? and people said she stole the movie? and you can't say it's racism because people will be like "omg so just liking a white actress/character is racist???" no. and you know that's not it. it's that you would go out of your way to put such heavy praise onto a white actress that did absolutely nothing special aside from being a pretty white girl when it was halle who made the movie and even that scene with her acting and her voice.
remember how in ginny and georgia people are absolutely insane and disgusting when it comes to ginny a young mixed girl but praise abby the mean and edgy white girl and go so far as to call her a victim? and sure some of it just comes from a concerning lack of recalling media but it's also just this unsaid perhaps unconscious dislike people have of black characters (and all characters of color but especially black characters). it's the fact that many writers write them to be disliked. and people fall for it, take the bait, hook line and sinker.
and it's in little doses. god i just. people can think i'm reaching at straws all they want but lucas in stranger things. how in the first season he's MADE to be disliked despite being in the right. kenny in cobra kai who is humiliated again and again in show and we're supposed to dislike him or maybe just laugh at him. whatever the fuck is happening in that shameless scene where fiona fires the only black employee that works for her. i haven't seen shameless but that scene unfortunately comes up on my feed once every few months and each time i hate it more. because people will say "b-b-b-but that lady was a bad employee! she was lazy and coming to work late and then playing the race card!" yes! precisely! why did the writers write a scene like that? why did they play into such a negative stereotype just to give their woe-is-me white woman a #badbitch moment? the sinister thrill that people get from seeing black characters and especially black women "get what's coming to them" is so concerning!
how people talk about jacinda in the last season of once upon a time and say henry had more chemistry with ivy. no the fuck he did NOT. if jacinda was white and ivy was black, that would not be such a popular opinion. and it does get trickier when it comes to shipping because sure, everyone likes different things in fiction. i haven't seen star wars so take the following with a grain of salt but yeah sure people will like rey x kylo more than rey x finn. her dynamic with kylo is probably more interesting. but WHY is it more interesting. why could the writers not make her relationship with finn more engaging if he was supposed to be her love interest? would more people not be calling reylo toxic if kylo was played by a black actor? would more people not be saying that rey is a lesbian if she was played by a black woman? that is to say, i am in no way saying that people who ship reylo are racist. i think there are very few people who actively had the thought "i'm not going to ship rey with finn because finn is black." however i think there is a combination of a, writers not wanting to make black characters outright evil because they'll be called racist so they just sneak in ways to make them either annoying or boring, and b, fandom either ignoring or actively disliking black characters whether the writers do it or not. again, haven't seen star wars, but i can also talk about how lucas and max from stranger things are now more popular post season 4 when they were given better scenes, but how before that everyone shipped max with eleven.
or what about the mess of a movie that is set it up. where the two bad characters are the ceo guy who is portrayed as angry and aggressive and cheating on his girlfriend, and the main character's girlfriend, who is portrayed as vain and selfish.
the only beloved black character from a POPULAR fandom (because there are beloved and well-written black and other poc characters in smaller fandoms) that i can think of off the top of my head is jesper from six of crows. he's a MAIN character, first of all, and he is clearly written to be liked. the show and book make him the charmer, the funny one, gives him an actual plotline and secrets and family and angst and engagement just like all the other characters in the story. perhaps characters like t'challa in marvel could be considered popular. but on ao3, out of 500k marvel fics, 10k have him tagged as a character. whereas in 10k fics for six of crows, jesper is tagged in 6k and him x wylan is the second most popular ship.
idek where i'm going with this. i'm not trying to be mean. it's fine and valid to say that someone wouldn't like a character if they're white. i think it's also valid for me to say that black characters are villainized or ignored by writers and fandoms alike in a way white characters aren't, and that sometimes it's very obvious.
#again this isn't necessarily anti any of these shows although i do dislike these things#i'm gonna tag them with the anti tags anyway#anti bridgerton#anti little mermaid#anti ginny and georgia#anti stranger things#anti cobra kai#anti shameless#anti once upon a time#anti star wars

D*p x DC is absolutely Not It when it comes to found family writing. It's not found family or intergenerational friendship if it's you just getting legally adopted and i think it's so embarrasing i need to tell DPDC stans that considering the superiority complex y'all have when it comes to the way you write the DC cast, which awfully bold coming from people who've never read comics and just watched a racist and misogynistic parody cartoon
Spiderverse x Pjo x DC aka The Anomalies IS found family with Miles,Percy and Jason as the core three and titulary team.Percy and Jason are afro-caribbean like Miles and darkskin too and Percy is a femme trans woman because boys only trios are one of the worst thing's in fiction ever and they're all audhd so that's already three bonding points without even getting into their complimentary yet contrasting personalities and stories. The other two 'adopted' Miles not legally but in the sense they became such close friends just because they love eachother so much they started viewing him as their little brother and him them as the older siblings he never had.Miles goes to them with his problems no hesitation since they've established themselves as trustworthy and helpful and Percy and Jason had actual progression and conflict in their dynamic instead of Jason being infantilized or Percy made into a misogynistic stereotype.Percy and Jason never exploit Miles but go after adults who DO and taught him how to spot people with bad intentions on subjects his parents wouldn't know about(not necessarily sexual ones to be clear, moreso how to not fall for villains manipulation!)
They have eachother's food orders memorized and do cartoons marathons once a month and play video games together and go out to the beach with themed swimsuits to their own individual aesthetics with Miles' being goofy ahh swim trunks and a black and red tank top because he hasn't gotten top surgery yet,Jason's edgy ahh swim trucks and his Lazarus Pit top surgery scars proudly on display and Percy's a girly ahh bikini she made herself with her diy skills that's all blue shades has an attached hoodie
Miles and Percy make themselves read Jason's favorite books with him when they aren't even book nerds because they want him to be happy.Miles and Jason do whatever mermaid-adjacent Percy thing is into to get closer to her and end up enjoying the things themselves too.Miles is completely unashamed of his special interests and comforts and thinks he's cool for them now thanks Percy and Jason telling him they and he are as they truly think so as former autistic kids themselves.Miles makes jokes about beating up Bruce for being a shitty dad to Jason and tells Percy she's a better mom than Poseidon is a dad and Jason's killed MULTIPLE guys for sexually harrasing Percy and him and Percy scarred villains for life for messing with Miles.Miles is Jason's Little Man and Percy's Girasolito and he wouldn't trade the entire multiverse for them and Percy and Jason can't believe they ever hated eachother after all they've been though now.The Anomalies ain't co-workers,they best friends and also not for white asses,it's for the niggas

ultimate #hatermoment but i can't stand rikki's costuming in mako mermaids
why is my tomboy queen flitting around in 1950s-esque sundresses and high heels with perfectly styled hair. where are the androgynous silhouettes, the near refusal to wear any colour that isn't red or black, the vaguely alternative-inspired chic. why does her hair look Like That.
as a femme stereotype i will say there is nothing wrong with adhering to a certain standard of feminity, how and ever rikki has never been the most femme girlie in the room. she likes to dress up from time to time but mostly prefers to look edgy and punk-adjacent than typically feminine
yes it has been years since we've last seen her by her stint on mako mermaids, and personal style can change, i just think a few small tweaks could make this woman look more like rikki. if her dresses were red or black and her hair was a little frizzy, she would actually look like the rikki chadwick we know and love, not some girlboss in a flowery dress
the implicit message seems to be that any style that isn't 100% feminine is something you 'grow out of,' that young people who like to dress mildly tomboy-ish will eventually and inevitably end up dressing like the ideal of hegemonic feminity. dare i say a freezing cold take from a so-called 'girl power'-oriented franchise
#if they really wanted to go full girlboss? put my girl in a suit!!#h2o just add water#.txt#h2o#rikki chadwick#anti mako mermaids
