In the late #90s a #DJ friend told me about a hallway full of #records in an unused part of the #Fresno State library. We could take what we wanted for a limited time. No charge, the school wanted to free up the space. I scored lps by #ShuggieOtis, #EugeneMcDaniels, #DavidAxelrod, #EddieFloyd, The Nite Lighters... tons of mind blowing music. One of the best lps was Bubble Gum by The 9th Creation. Also released as Falling In Love, this lp is a perfect blend of jazz, funky breakbeats, soulful vocals and 70s style. This album is legendary in the rare groove community and also heavily sampled by 90s producers. I had actually grown up listening to their music and didn’t even know it. The track Bubble Gum was sampled by The #Artifacts on their classic single Wrongside of the Tracks, CeCe Peniston on her New Jack Swing banger Im In The Mood and cut to perfection #RobSwifts DJ album Soulful Fruit. Rule of Mind was sampled on the #3rdBass classic lp Derelicts Of Dialect, #BlackMoon’s track Slave and French producer DJ Cam’s lp Mad Blunted Jazz (aka Underground Vibes). Rule of Mind was also used on the groundbreaking early 90s French Rap lp Rap Jazz Soul by Soon E MC. The music of the 9th Creation has made yet another comeback on digital platforms and today I was followed by their official instagram account so cheers guys and thank you for the amazing music!
