Headcanons: Eddie Brock and how he flirts, and how he shows intimacy (physical and not)

Flirting:

Though Eddie is not shy with his flirting, he did tend to fumble through it at first, almost as though he is nervous.

He was mostly nervous with his flirting when the two of you had just met.

He would flirt, but it would be awkward and rushed, but you found it appealing and cute way.

Once the two of you became friends, he was more open and forward with his flirting.

Eddie does not shy away from compliments, he is always willing and ready to tell you you look great, compliment the way you did something, how you said something, etc.

The compliments always have an underlying flirtiness, that you might not always pick up on.

"You look great" "I'm wearing sweatpants." "Yeah, and?"

He LOVES if you get all bashful and shy if he makes a more forward comment, and it only encourages him to do it more.

Sometimes you aren't sure if he is jut teasing you to rile you up, or if he genuinely thinks the thing he says.

He means all of them.

It's not until he genuinely asks you out on a date that you truly know he meant everything.

Now, if you flirted with him, he would shut down for half a second.

A flirty remark or a teasing comment and his mind goes blank.

He gets a bit flustered, rarely able to think of something to respond with quickly.

The flirting does not stop when you two are in a relationship. In fact it just gets worse.

And by worse, I mean more frequent, and the comments themselves are full of more innuendos and private jokes than before.

After you're in a relationship he gets better at comebacks when you flirt, since he expects it more often.

But every once and a while, especially in public, you get him good, and he can't help but stare after you with mild alarm and adoration.

Intimacy:

Eddie loves physical intimacy. Cuddling, kissing, hugging, hand holding, *clears throat* Et cetera.

He loves just being close to you, if you are near him, he feels comforted and happy.

He often presses kisses to your body. Your bare shoulders, wrist, hands cheek, temple, forehead, you name it.

One night he took it upon himself to kiss every spot, freckle, mole, and scar he could see on your body.

But he also shows intimacy with more subtle actions as well.

Placing his jacket over your shoulders when you're on a walk.

Making sure his hands brush or briefly hold yours as he hands you something.

Taking your hand when he helps you step up or down a tall step or ledge.

Placing his hand on your lower back when you are walking together.

And then there are the non-physical types of intimacy.

Intellectual intimacy.

He loves having long-winded discussions about various topics, especially when you are helping him on a story.

When you are both talking passionately abut the same things, it helps him feel closer to you in ways physical intimacy cannot.

Recreational Intimacy.

Lounging together on the couch, your legs in his lap, his hand absentmindedly drawing shapes on your legs as you both read and/or work.

Going on walks hand in hand, barely talking, just being.

Your weekend trips to the arcade, or local theater, routine centered around each other

Cooking breakfast or dinner together side by side.

One of you washing dishes while the other dries.

Sharing in domestic bliss with you often makes him feel more intimately close with you than anything else. You are his life partner after all.

The two (three) don't really cross paths with one another for a good while, given their occupations and locations. Which is good because utter chaos would ensue when they all clash and figure out that they all are infatuated with the same person. A good portion of time that is peaceful (if you can even call it that given who you're dealing with) before the coming storm. The contrasting personalities and possessiveness (mostly coming from Tony and Venom) will be the sole reason why they can't cooperate or get along. So it's good to appreciate any amount of time before they all officially meet.

On one end, there is Tony: the genius billionaire playboy philanthropist who is also Iron Man. Some might say he would have the advantage in this situation because of those titles. As mentioned before in his headcanons, he is not very fond of you having people around who are considered to be 'too close' to you. It sets off his paranoia and he hates that. So imagine this: you are good friends with Eddie Brock and Tony knows this. He automatically does not like Eddie at all. He is aware that you have your fair share of friends, yes, but Eddie seems to be a different case considering that it looks to be that you spend more time with the journalist than any of your other friends. This gets under Tony's skin.

Then on the other end is Eddie and Venom: vigilantes (sort of) who is deemed as a stubborn man with his own set of morals. Eddie is a chill guy when it comes to you hanging out with friends; doesn't really bother him. It did bother Venom, however, as he grew possessive over you. He even pondered on the idea of biting off that one person's head off when he caught sight of them potentially flirting with you. Of course Eddie shut that idea down, not wanting to upset you, but knew that the person needed to be dealt with some way... Just not immediate murder unless they attempt to hurt you in any way.

Over the course of time, his symbiote companion had taken notice of someone else's presence upon you. Says there's a faint scent of them lingering onto you, but Eddie figures that it's that big shot you've been acquainted with. He's heard some things about him in conversation with you, and damn did hearing the details about this guy make his skin crawl. Eddie knows that he can't offer you too much, but it really eats at him when it becomes painfully obvious. What sets him off a little more is how you spend time with this man alone. Venom of course suggests tracking this guy down, which Eddie obliges to. It's only to make sure the man you work with is not trying anything at all.

In the situation where the two of them do meet through you, the tension is thick. Tony is passive aggressive in conversation with Eddie, jokingly throwing jabs at him. Your close friend tries to laugh it off so you don't suspect his unease and stiff attitude. All the while Venom's growls can be heard in the back of his head. All three of them already felt like the other was bad news, but now it just escalated to silent hostility. To which they made sure you wouldn't notice of course.

Tony's method of winning your affections, as mentioned before, is ensuring you receive the best out of life. He is a man who loves seeing you happy and absolutely thrives on the fact that he is the cause of that. One thing he's noticed about your friendship with Eddie is the fact that he is the shoulder you'd cry on. It irks Tony. So... Why can't he be that as well? He always makes it a reminder to you that whatever is on your mind, you don't have to hesitate in talking to him about it. But oh, if Tony ever sees hints of what Eddie is hiding... He'll use that to his advantage. He will absolutely share his concerns over your friend and his intentions. Tony speaks about how shady he seems and should you mention how the two of you are close friends, Tony can just say that a close friend could always just back stab you. It's more likely them than a stranger.

Eddie on the other hand, immediately expresses his concerns about Tony. That guy is extremely haughty, which he absolutely hates. What if he's just using you? What if he's one of those people who just kidnap people for their sick little games (you comment how he's been seeing that one movie too many times...)? Venom just wants to straight up get things over with, but Eddie assures the symbiote that they'll get to that. If you're insistent on keeping tabs with Stark, he won't argue further, but he does want to be around when you do go see Tony. It's only because he deeply cares for your safety. If he can't be there, Eddie lets it be known that if anything happens, you need to call him immediately and he'll be there.

The three have their fair share of flaws too, but also advantages. They're all waiting for the other to slip up in some way and that will let them know the next move to make. Finally putting down the facade and engaging in a full on confrontation. You could try to stop things, but really, it's up to you how things will be decided.

Let's talk LGBTQ+ erasure in the Marvel Fandom

Mischaracterization in fandom is a big problem, and it's something we see from every fanbase. A character gets boiled down into a few condensed traits and their nuance is washed out and forgotten. Fanonization isn't always inherently bad, and can lead to fandom solidarity and representation through headcanon, and this can sometimes eventually have influence on canon, which can be seen in the Homestuck fandom, where eventually slash pairings that received enough attention became endgame romantic pairings (Dave and Karkat, Rose and Kanaya, etc.). Of course I'm not here to discuss Homestuck today, I'm here to discuss the Marvel fandom and its toxic dudebro fans, as well as related topics that intersect with this issue. 

There's a common mischaracterization problem in the Marvel fandom, particularly in relation to queer relationships and characters. 

First example is Deadpool. Wade Wilson is described by his canon writers and creators to be omnisexual or pansexual, or of an otherwise fluctuating and open sexuality. The Deadpool video game wildly mischaracterized Wade and even made him behave in some homophobic ways, acting grossed out by men and homoerotic implications. This was jarring for me as someone who has read his comics and knows for a fact that Wade has multiple emphasized crushes on or at least attraction to other male characters, such as Spider-Man, Thor, Cable, and others. The game was very popular despite this mischaracterization and created a condensed fanonized Deadpool that is made into nothing more than an ultraviolent oversexualized joke, despite his character being the epitome of coping humor and having a very tender and compassionate side to him. It's known in the comics that Wade uses his humor to cope with his severe trauma, this doesn't mean he is just comic relief. This has gotten consistently worse since the Deadpool films. (I'm looking at you, shitty Wal-Mart DP t shirt that shows Wade holding a sign that says "oh I'm sorry did I offend you?" Which is really OOC imho)

Many of the more hypermasculine fans of Deadpool seem to have this false image of him being the epitome of "offensive humor" when in reality his trademark is Metahumor, not going out of his way to be a dick to people. These fans also often either ignore or aren't aware of Deadpool not being straight, portraying him as thirsting after buxom ladies but forgetting his openly admitted male attracted orientation which is just as obvious if you're not actively ignoring it. This is a grave mistake that takes so much from his character, especially in the case of the Deadpool/Spider-Man team up comics. 

In that span of issues Wade went through an entire moral transformation, molding himself and his moral compass to earn the respect of Spider-Man, while unable to go more than a few pages without flirting with him. The things Wade goes through in order to Do the Right Thing by Spider-Man in any other story would be considered romantic. If a man did this much for a woman in a narrative of course no one would question the romantic subtext, but because it's two men, half of the fanbase has a kneejerk reaction to this concept and swear that Deadpool flirting is a joke. (Or that it's just "Bromance")

Yes, because apparently a man being attracted to a man has to be a joke. /Sarc

Wade and Peter are even canonically shown to be "heartmates" and this still isn't enough for the erasure to end, and ultimately I think this is because the fans guilty of this either didn't read the Deadpool comics and only know the movie or game, or they chose to read the comics through a straight washed lense, assuming all "gayness" is a joke.

It's made prominently clear in Deadpool/Spider-Man that Wade is probably in love with Spidey based on his actions, and truly every single interaction with him leaves more evidence to support this idea, especially when you look at his relationship with Shiklah and how not-good it was in comparison to his much healthier dynamic with Peter. Even with the knowledge of the ridiculous Peter Parker Policy (that states Peter Parker must always be portrayed as a straight white man in canon despite him being the embodiment of the underdog), one cannot deny Wade is attracted to Peter canonically. The only thing in the way of them being a pair is that they're both men and Marvel is too cowardly to make one of their most famous and family oriented characters queer, and that fans who aren't queer actively ignore the obvious subtext and narrative value of the Wade/Peter dynamic in the comics. Marvel has doubled down on this with the MCU by making Peter Parker WAYYYYY younger than Wade than he actually is in the comics (don't ship MCU spideypool folks, that's gross. Comics only. MCU Spider-Man is far too young even at 18), making it now impossible for us to see this dynamic on screen, because they're only capable of giving queer representation when it comes with an R rating, apparently (and they really didn't do that w Deadpool either tbh they stated that he's pansexual in some trailers but never showed much queerness in the films at all, even with Ryan Reynolds wanting to focus on Wade having a boyfriend at some point, it hasn't come to fruition bc Marvel is too scared to lose their rabid straight fans).

The same erasure can be seen in Venom, in relation to Eddie Brock and his undeniably queer relationship with the genderless, masculine presenting alien living in his body. 

Eddie and Venom are portrayed and referred to as if they're married, Venom himself states that their bond is equivalent to a marriage, and Eddie calls Venom "love". Yet again, this is ignored by edgier straight fans who refuse to see the blatant truth about the characters. 

Venom drops everything to be with Eddie, his purpose in life itself. He chooses Eddie over his biological purpose and has repeatedly been shown to do ANYTHING to stay with him, never wanting to be apart from Eddie. 

After the release of Venom 2018 this relationship is receiving spotlight again, but not without pushback. Many fans seem to have the impression that this relationship is fan generated and accuse shippers of "hamfisting gay shit into everything" when in reality they're the ones hamfisting straightness where there is none, and erasing the canon in order to fit their personal interpretation, the very thing they accuse queer fans of doing. The same thing happens with Spideypool, with Stucky, with Symbrock, with Loki and Venom's nonbinary genders, with every LGBTQ+ hero or character in Marvel this can be seen as a pervasive problem. The elitist nerds who go out of their way to delegitimize other fans are often the least fluent in the source material they claim to defend.

This is both a result of toxic fandom, and of badly managed representation on the part of Marvel as a company. I'm by no means an authority on all things Marvel, but as a queer fan of Marvel properties, I feel this needs to be said.

Ooooh okay okay lemme think hmmm. I'll use this as an excuse to talk about my Venom oc, Robbie, since I love her a lot but haven't talked about her in a while.

1. So Robbie loves to read and her favorite author is Stephen King (not unlike her creator lol) and she actually named her cat Church, after the family cat in Pet Semetary. (and may end up with a symbiote of her own named Cujo thanks to a wonderful suggestion from my friend @reyskestis)

2. She tries to seem put together and like she has everything figured out but uh... Robbie is just as much of a disaster as Eddie Brock. For example, she can never keep her socks together when she does laundry. Not a single pair of her socks match, okay. Not a single pair.

3. She's a horrible driver. Don't give her your keys, don't let her behind the wheel. Just... stick her in the passenger seat if you know what's good for her.

4. She writes articles remotely for The Daily Bugle and her parents are just... very unenthused because they think Robbie isn't living up to her potential but a job is a job and what she really wants to do is write novels. Of course, in order to do that she has to actually write stories and not just for work.

5. She actually loves to cook but hates only having herself to cook for so when Eddie Brock moves in across the hall she uses inviting him over for dinner as an excuse to cook more (and also an excuse to flirt because I mean... obviously.)

·      The thing about Venom is that he can be both very sweet and very jealous

·      If you two are alone, or out in public but no one is really looking at you guys Venom will be the sweetest thing you’ve ever laid eyes on. He will wrap around you, murmur in your ear, and nuzzle your neck affectionately

·      And Eddie is the same honestly, he loves to cuddle

·      Honestly, if you’re ticklish, neither of them will not be afraid to take advantage of that just to hear your laugh and see your smile

·      But Venom, personally, gets jealous very easily

·      If anyone talks to you while you’re together, he will start to get upset. He’ll try to convince Eddie to say or do something, but if he refuses (Eddie doesn’t get jealous as quickly as Venom), Venom won’t hesitate to sneak off of Eddie and do something to scare the other person away

·      Eddie, while he doesn’t get jealous as easily, will get mad if someone is obviously flirting with you. He’ll wrap his arm around you and glare at the other guy until they get the hint. If they continue pushing though, he and Venom might just have to pay them a visit later

·      Neither of them will ever get mad at you though. No, this will just be more proof for them that you need them to protect you. Even if you are flirting with someone else, they’ll still hesitate to get angry with you. Both of them think the world of you, they think you’re just the sweetest person ever, and it’s really difficult to shatter that image they have of you

mmmmm spicy infodump time

so meph is a character i've had for like 3 years already and now i'm just throwing them into mk stuff. some basic things about them are:

- they're agender and not sure about their sexuality and romantic attraction (they just go with the flow)

- they are 35 years old

- they have fire powers and the ability to possess anyone who they have some type of bond with. they're also able to shift into this weird creature that's literally just made of fire

- they claim to be a pirate but have a huge fear of water so they've never been on a boat (so more of a land pirate if you will)

- they're an absolute thembo but they're smarter than you would expect

- my headcanon voice for them is brian david gilbert (they both have the same chaotic gremlin energy)

- i only ship them with canon characters in a platonic way, since i'm working on their angel bf

- their whole personality is based around the seven sins, but the most prominent ones are greed (likes booty) and lust (likes booty)

so basically their dynamic with canon characters is that they once saved hanzo, which created some type of weird supernatural bond between the two, and now he's basically stuck with this feral pirate demon. it's not really an eddie brock-venom type of bond but more of a guardian angel type of bond (i did once draw a venom-styled meph and i didn't hate it). they joke around with johnny and the kombat kids a lot and they're also a massive flirt who will hit on anyone older than them (unless they're uncomfortable with it, in that case they'll stop unlike some cowboy and aussie trashcan)

He often leaves gift baskets and things at your doorstep. Never truly saying who its from. But just to see the smile on your face is enough for him.

As venom he will growl and hiss at anyone who dares try to hurt you.

He is EXTREMELY TERRITORIAL. He will scent mark you. And also sometimes make you wear his hoodies and his shirts just so he can let others know your HIS AND ONLY HIS.

He doesn't like other cute guys flirting with you. At all. Ever.

He has sniffed your shirts. Just because he loves your smell. This is more so when he's as venom.

He send anonymous love letters to you.

He loves phone sex. So doing that makes him crazy.

He isn't the type to hurt those he loves. But he would kill anyone who dares to come between you and him. Especially spiderman.

He's taken pictures of you before. Some with you knowing and some that you don't know about.

He has lurked outside your window before and caught you masturbating. Lets just say eddie liked that a lot.

You also have caught eddie masturbating to you, picture of you. You didnt see him. But you heard him outside his room before while you was over to chill at his apartment. He was heavily panting and saying your name as well as other things.
