Okay so i have never been tagged in a fic writing thing before and I’m excited so I’m not stressing too much about what the actual expectations are! Also it looks like this one mostly belongs to the 911 fandom? whatever! Y’all are just gonna get snippets of Summer Sons stuff I’m writing

As yet unpublished chapter of One of Mine (Summer Sons - Sam POV):

He hadn’t handed Irene any of the private details of Blur’s life, just running his mouth about the other man’s refusal to take care of himself, how he reminded Sam of a younger and dumber version of himself, how he was worried Riley would fall into some of his bad habits. On his second or third pass through “—and he’s clearly not fucking eating or sleeping enough” Irene finally broke and started laughing at him outright.

“Samuel Aaron Halse,” she started, knowing it would put his back up and that she was one of three people who had known him long enough to get away with it. “You have an honest to god crush on this man, don’t you?” Sam blinked at her for a moment, caught between flabbergasted, insulted, and defensive.

Summer Sons fic, after, Sam x Andrew

What he loved most were nights like this one, the moments at the end of a long party while the festivities wound down and people stumbled out of the house. Sam sprawled, a king on his throne, arms and legs set wide to claim half the couch. Andrew was collapsed across his lap, floating, unselfconscious. He turned his head toward Sam’s stomach and used just his face to nose Sam’s shirt out of the way, removing the barrier to the skin-to-skin contact he craved. He hummed appreciatively as he was finally able to nuzzle against the soft layer of fat over unsurprising muscle mass. As happened some nights, the full body sense memory tried to tip him into the past, and his mind played Eddie’s voice, livid and drunk, say it again you think I’m like that. Andrew frowned and pulled away from the memory, beginning to roll away from Sam out of a misplaced feeling of danger. Without a change in posture or gaze, Sam noticed and wrapped his big hand around the back of Andrew’s neck to pull him back in.

Summer Sons fic, Eddie x Andrew, where Andrew comes down to Nashville early, and some other shenanigans (mark’s fault)

The drive had been excruciatingly long, but it had also disappeared under him faster than he would have liked. Six hours was nothing and everything when he was so ready to see Eddie again and so afraid of how mad Eddie would be. Eddie had finally given an order that Andrew couldn’t follow. An avid student of folklore, Andrew was well-versed in the Irish concept of a geas. His life was, of course, a southern gothic ghost story, but it felt like a geas had been laid on him in the cavern so many years ago, to follow Eddie, to stay with Eddie, no matter what, to the ends of the earth or the edge of the grave. His second geas, never at odds with the first before now, was to obey. To follow Eddie in action as well as proximity.

But now Eddie had given him an order that set his geasa in opposition, and it was tearing him apart. Eddie said “stay away from me. Stay where I left you. Stop begging to be at my side.” Andrew could not follow both the ties on his heart as they pulled him in separate directions, not in the full spirit of them, but perhaps he could follow them both to the letter. Maybe, if he got close enough to Eddie, he would let Andrew in. He would stop shoving Andrew away and pull him close again. Surely, finally, Eddie would relent and let Andrew come home, and the world would be right again, and he wouldn’t be torn to shreds from his conflicting needs.

So Eddie would run his fingers through Blurs hair, kiss him on the neck hold his thigh while he drived and Andrew shared a bed with Eddie, slept on top of him, let Eddie brand him with a tattoo, drank his blood and Lee Mandelo wants me to believe it just never occurred to them to kiss on the lips.

i think andrew might be either leo or most likely a virgo since it’s mentioned his birthday is in the end of summer if im not mistaken? yet he gives me zero virgo vibes … ARIES MOON FOR SURE THO! agreed on sam being a sag and eddie was giving me gemini or leo tbh!

Andrew, Eddie, and Sam are a hot, messy trifecta of fire signs (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius respectively*) and if they all had been together at once, I don't think Nashville could have handled it.... but I would like to see it 👀

curiously and politely paging @fancifulpurposelesslovely to ask about summer sons thoughts, if that's okay!

in particular, the andrew/sam power dynamic + what that means for their relationship post-canon, because i think we both picked up on the same undertones in the text but came to different interpretations. and i'm just intrigued to poke more at your take and hear more about it.

on my end, the baseline of it is, i think andrew's passiveness and his over-reliance on a second party to act as his lighthouse is present throughout the events of the book. he expresses this desire explicitly and implicitly, to be owned, leashed, and led. and i've always seen it as a result of trauma more than anything else, relating to the cavern and therefore to eddie as well. i often think andrew's arc is about many things, but one of the top things is that he's learning to be a real boy. instead of being half a human being, living only a small portion of personhood. the way he was after the cavern and early on in the book.

i think there's andrew grows a lot throughout and comes into his own; the eddie/andrew relationship feels like it is hardcore bdsm-coded but for two boys who don't know anything and they're just kids thrust into this dynamic to cope, and even eddie seems to become miserable and burdened by having to carry andrew through life. it feels like to me he really did want that space away from andrew. he really wanted to have a world, a time with things he forged in nashville just for himself, albeit temporarily. the cavern is this thing that forced them both into this shape and they never got the help to learn another way of being, no matter how miserable it made them amidst the intimacy and love.

and the story is, to me, andrew slowly expanding his horizons, unearthing parts of himself and his life that he had been cut off from, and finally getting a feel for who he really is, a complete andrew blur. he discovers and accesses his sexuality for the first time, both sexual sensibilities and his sex drive. and unlike with eddie, he lets himself engage with his agency as a human being; he breaks into a whole new world through sam, and finds that he's able to have a different kind of dynamic with him, finds that he can grasp at his anger and annoyance at being ordered around and act on it. theres no need to make himself do what sam wants just because sam wants it, and he feels comfortable delivering a rejection. ("i'm not your bitch so tell him yourself.")

the cavern stunted him as a person and eddie too, and there's a throughline there about overlooked childhood trauma. especially for male queer victims in a suburban setting, already expected to be social and sexually active with women and drug-using.

character arc-wise, and mostly centering andrew blur, i've always thought he would outgrow the heavily codependent dynamic he had with eddie, where his primary role in life was to act as eddie's right hand man of sorts, everything eddie wants eddie gets, and andrew blur exists to provide a personal service to eddie fulton. hobbies, academics, careers, relationships, every sector of his life he has developed not for himself but in devotion of someone else. someone he was forced to become metaphorical bride to at 12.

post-canon, after andrew's matured and come into his own, i imagine he can bring these new parts of himself into the relationship with sam, things he never had with eddie. and it would be different, something straying further from bdsm dynamics.

and this got real long, but i'm curious because i feel like you know more about the bdsm side of things better than i do. and my own is pretty rudimentary, so andrew never struck me as someone who is submissive and enjoys it.

this is not to say sam/andrew don't have those vibes, they soo do, andrew/eddie were 10000% like that in practice, and andrew definitely has the submissive markers. though to me, he embodied that role, developed those traits and lived that life with eddie due do a unique set of traumatic circumstance.

so, no hate or judgement, i just wanted to share and wanted to hear more about this book. especially from a different perspective, when i feel like we both did read the same book and saw the same things. i'm more than happy to trade takes.

Stranger Things AU!

Mighty Ducks but make it Steve Harrington and the Party.

Steve graduated college and went off to run a branch of his dad’s company in Indianapolis. Five years later, he’s 27 and in trouble with the law - drink driving or something. Takes a plea bargain for community service and ends up back in Hawkins to coach a ragtag group of 13-year-olds, that proudly call themselves The Party, in an after school ice hockey program.

Max is Fulton Reed. I feel like she’s got the attitude for it and Neil probably wouldn’t let her play hockey because it’s a ‘boys’ sport, so they manage to convince the Hargrove family that Max is learning figure skating with El Hopper (who’s already on the team).

Max and Mike become these two:

Cause Mike one hundred percent deserves to bash some heads in. Boy’s got a lot of big emotions to work through.

Will is the fastest on the team, but he can’t stop and spends a lot of time bowling over his own team. He designs the team logo when they finally get proper uniforms.

Dustin has terrible coordination and can’t stay on his feet, he always makes his shots though. Claims it’s basically science and numbers. Oh and Eddie is Dustin’s older brother (Wayne and Claudia got married). Gotta get my Steddie in there somewhere.

I kind of want Lucas to be the goalie. He falls in love with Max when she body slams another player for hitting him.

Erica is way to young for the team but it doesn’t stop her from becoming assistant coach and running them all ragged. She rules the team with an iron fist.

hello hiiiii Fox long time no cringe anon message it is slightly past midnight i’m shirking my uni responsibilities to instead think about Summer Sons. every time i reread this book i try to focus on a different character and how they’re developed throughout the story and once again the posthumous characterization of Eddie fuckin kills me. every time. do you think he knew? do you think any part of him remained in the shade (the revenant? the ghost?) do you think he’d be happy? much like sisyphus i choose to believe he’d be okay, y’know, proud of Andrew, despite the evidence that he was probably so fucking jealous; sometimes letting go is the best thing you can do for someone else and yourself (do you really have a choice as a ghost?), etc. i’ve sunk my teeth so far into this story im getting bone marrow man i want to know what happens After so bad. d’you think Lee Mandelo realized he was creating such a fucking hit while he was writing it. peace and love bro, hope the new year is treating you well <3

Hi anon!! So sorry for the late response, I was traveling when I got it and got distracted.

Honestly, I think if any of Eddie was left in the revenant, he would absolutely have eventually been happy for Andrew. I think Eddie wanted more for Andrew than Andrew wanted for himself, and if Eddie had to be dead, I think he'd at least be glad that Andrew was figuring out the gay thing and finding a way to be happy.

Now I'm definitely not certain that there was anything real of Eddie left. Clearly some memories, and a hunger for life and power, a remembered love of Andrew (and a connection based on the split power they shared). But in the usual mythos of ghosts, I don't think Andrew was wrong when he said it wasn't Eddie anymore. Probably more of Eddie than most of the ghosts they encountered, just because of the Fulton curse. But not like... a lot of him.
